If you have ever been to Qinghai, you may get the sense of water falling from the sky. In the south of Qinghai Province lies Sanjiangyuan, the meeting place of waters that give birth to the Yangtze River, the Yellow River, and the Lancang River, which is known to the world as the Mekong (湄公河).
Each year, Sanjiangyuan sends nearly 60 billion cubic metres of clean fresh water to 18 provinces in China and 5 other countries. It is the lifeline of hundreds of millions of people. For much of China, it is a main water source and is called the “Water-Tower of the Nation”. As the saying goes, “When Sanjiangyuan sneezes (打喷嚏), the Yangtze and the Yellow River catch a cold.”
But this land is rich not only in water. Rising at an average (平均的) height of 3,500 to 4,800 metres, Sanjiangyuan rests in the heart of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (青藏高原)—the Roof of the World. It is the highest place on Earth where so many living things can be found. Here, nature protects some of its most precious forms of life. However, this area was once in danger from poaching (非法捕猎). The Tibetan antelope (藏羚羊) suffered the most, with numbers falling sharply from around 200,000 to fewer than 20,000.
To save Sanjiangyuan and Tibetan antelope, people took effective actions. The government made strict laws against poaching and built nature reserves (保护区), while volunteers helped protect animals. As a result, the numbers of the Tibetan antelope are rising, and the beautiful land is well protected.
Remember, our efforts today will keep the “Water Tower of the Nation” alive for tomorrow. So let’s learn to be responsible guardians of our planet.
23. What is Sanjiangyuan mainly described as in Paragraph 1?
A. The birthplace of three big rivers.
B. A famous tourist attraction.
C. The highest plateau in China.
24. What does the underlined phrase “catch a cold” mean in Paragraph 2?
A. Make people feel sick.
B. Experience colder weather.
C. Have serious water problems.
25. What caused the number of Tibetan antelope to drop?
A. Climate change. B. Animal hunting. C. Water pollution.
26. What is the main purpose of the passage?
A. To suggest visiting Sanjiangyuan.
B. To call for environmental protection.
C. To introduce nature reserves in Qinghai.

Let’s take a look at a sentence in Chinese: “研表究明,汉字序顺并不定一影阅响读。” Did you notice that some of the Chinese characters are in the wrong order? You might not realize it, but your brain can read and understand most sentences. This may have something to do with psychology (心理学), according to Chen Qingrong from Nanjing Normal University.
When we’re first learning how to read, we read word by word. But after we become more experienced, we read in full phrases and even sentences. Also, we don’t feel special about the words we are familiar with. As a result, we don’t pay much attention to small details (细节), such as word order.
When we read the sentence at the beginning of this article, the content (内容) was already familiar to us. So we read it the way we think it should be in our memory. This is like when we see a person with long hair, we think the person is a girl without taking a closer look, according to Chen. This can also be seen in many other languages. For example, “This is because the huamn mind deos not raed ervey lettre, but the word as a wlohe.”
Matt Davis from Cambridge University explained the reason. He pointed out that humans mainly remember the meanings of words by their shape and layout (布局), instead of the strict order of letters.
Although our brains are good at guessing and understanding disordered information, this habit may make us miss small mistakes. Therefore, we should still develop careful reading habits and pay attention to correct word order in our daily study.
27. How does the writer introduce the topic?
A. By asking a question.
B. By giving an example.
C. By sharing an experience.
28. What do experienced readers pay attention to while reading?
A. Word order.
B. Every single letter.
C. Full phrases and sentences.
29. Why does Chen use the example of a person with long hair in Paragraph 3?
A. To prove right word order makes reading easier.
B. To warn us not to judge a girl by her appearance.
C. To show we miss details when words look familiar.
30. What the best title for this passage?
A. The Key to Improving Reading Skills
B. The Importance of Correct Word Order
C. The Secret to Reading Disordered Words

第四部分 读写综合(共两节,满分25分)
第一节 阅读表达(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面的短文,然后根据短文内容回答问题。
Joe Gardner in the new movie Soul is a gifted piano player who teaches middle school band. He hopes to achieve success and win his mother’s praise. When he gets a chance to play with his role model, musician Dorothea Williams, Joe thinks he is about to realize his dream.
Then Joe falls down a hole. Finally, he finds himself in the Great Before, where new souls are prepared for life. It’s also where Joe meets Soul Number 22. He’s sent to help her to find her spark (火花)—the passion (热情) that inspires her. 22 remains cold and uninterested in everything at first because she has never found her own spark. But everything changes once she truly starts to experience life for herself.
Seeing life through 22’s eyes awakes something in Joe. He realizes that while music is one of his sparks, he also finds satisfaction in helping others. By guiding 22, Joe gains a deep understanding of the little things that make life worth living. In fact, 22 gets her spark from ordinary activities, like watching the sky.
The characters in Soul are all very interesting. Everyone has something the movie calls a “spark”. The movie suggests that part of the beauty of life lies in discovering one’s own spark and helping others to find theirs as well.
Joe’s piano pieces, played by musician Jon Batiste, are one of the highlights of the film. The music is impressive and full of feeling. It’s easy to believe these works take Joe on a wonderful musical journey. By hearing them, we are transported too.
I give Soul a rating (评分) of 9 out of 10. The movie is thought-provoking (引人思考的) and inspiring. As the characters learn from one another, the viewer is invited to examine his or her own life. You’ll want to watch this film again and again with those who know you best, so you can discuss your spark and why it makes you—you.
56. What does Joe Gardner do?
57. Why is 22 not interested in anything at first?
58. Where does 22 get her spark?

The Person Who Lights Up My Spark
Hello, dear teachers and classmates. Today I’m glad to talk about the person who lights my spark.
It’s my English teacher. I used to be shy and afraid of speaking English. Once I failed an exam and wanted to give up. She patiently encouraged me and helped me make daily study plans. Gradually, I made great progress and fell in love with English.
From her, I learn never to give up when facing difficulties and keep trying bravely.
