Besides the amazing competitions of China’s 15th National Games, two funny mascots (吉祥物), named Xiyangyang and Lerongrong, have won the nation’s heart. Although people lovingly call them the “greater bay chickens (大湾鸡)”, their design actually comes from the Chinese white dolphin—a valuable animal known as the “panda of the sea”.
The mascots’ design is full of meaning. For example, the three-colored water patterns on their heads stand for the official flowers of the host cities: Guangzhou, Hong Kong, and Macao. When we look from the front, the water patterns form a heart, which means “Everyone is together”.
What has made the mascots so popular is not only their cute appearances, but also the humorous and energetic performances at the Games. In fact, they are not lively by accident. The performers inside the mascot suits are teenage students from martial arts schools (武术学校). To bring the mascots to life, they have practised for nearly five months. Their wonderful martial arts skills and cheerful natures have truly won the hearts of the public.
This popularity is also serving as a powerful economic (经济的) driver. Over 2,800 official products, like toy “greater bay chickens”, have been developed for the Games. They have become especially popular and sold out quickly both online and in stores. The success shows how a strong cultural idea, together with modern design, can really connect with people today.

Having worked in a nature reserve (保护区) for 30 years, Hou Tiguo has developed a special ability — he can tell what kind of birds are around simply by their singing. “I can also tell whether they are happy or unhappy,” he added with a big smile.
The 52-year-old’s home, Baihualing, a village in Yunnan province, is famous for different kinds of birds. He recalled, “In the 1970s people were so poor. Birds were often killed for food, so almost all the children including me in the village were good at using slingshots (弹弓).”
His life changed in 1989 when a couple hiking through the mountains visited Baihualing. They asked him to be their guide and lead them to good bird-watching places. He said, “That was the first time I had made money from birds without killing them.”
Encouraged by that, Hou and other villagers built a reserve to feed birds and protect the living places of birds. In the following ten years, more bird-watchers visited the village. The village became a popular choice for bird lovers, and most villagers have turned into bird protectors and taken part in serving bird-loving tourists.
In the village, there are more than “60 bird guides” like Hou. More than 20 guesthouses host visitors from more than 100 countries, which brings in a total income (收入) of 1.5 million yuan every year. “During the peak season, I serve nearly 100 tourists a day. You may know that bees make delicious honey. But do you know that they keep us all alive?
Every year on May 20, it’s World Bee Day. It’s a day to thank bees for all they do. Without bees, we wouldn’t have any food!
When bees go from plant to plant, they carry pollen (花粉). The pollen makes new plants grow. Bees not only help flowers grow. They also help fruit and vegetables grow.
It’s also a day to learn more about the problems bees are facing. They are losing their natural homes. They get sick from some things people use on crops. Also, the weather is getting hotter, and that is not good for bees. All these are making the number of bees drop, said the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
People are now looking to technology to help save the bees. One example is the robotic bee project called RoboRoyale, said Horizon magazine. The European Commission funds (投资) it. The project makes robot bees to help feed and look after the queen bee. This will get the queen bee to lay more eggs and make more bees.

Recently, short videos about Li Weiyi, a painter from Chengdu, and Green have become popular again for the power of “letting go.” This timeless message touches the softest part of people’s hearts, reminding us that love is not about owning, but giving freedom (自由).
The story began in 2010. Li Weiyi found a dying young wolf on the grassland. She saved his life and named him Green. She treated him like her own child. However, as Green grew up, his wild nature came out. He often cried wildly at night. He also needed to run here and there, and the crowded apartment became a “prison (监狱)” for him. Li faced a difficult choice and she decided to help him out, but she knew a zoo was not a home for a wolf.
Li chose the hardest way. She brought Green back to the Ruoergai Grassland. It was a long and dangerous journey. Li became a “wolf teacher.” She patiently taught the city-raised wolf how to look for food and remain alive in terrible weather. Green even had to fight against cruel wild dogs to become stronger.
In the end, her effort paid off. Green successfully returned to nature by becoming the first wolf of a wild wolf pack (狼群). Today, this popular story continues to teach us that true love isn’t about owning someone. It means giving freedom to those we love.

根据短文内容,判断句子正(T)、误(F)。
41. World Bee Day falls on May 20 every year.
42. Bees just help flowers grow and they do nothing for fruit and vegetables.
43. The number of bees goes down because of different reasons.
