Here are four of the top sci-fi authors to ever write in the genre (体裁). Aldous Huxley Aldous Huxley’s influence is huge and lasts until this day. His writing almost predicts many of the ways in which science would change the world and shapes scientific and technological advancements. Brave New World ($11.31) is still widely considered one of the most important novels of all time. Huxley is considered a philosopher outside of his work as an author. Robert A. Heinlein Having helped to establish some of the biggest and best subgenres within sci-fi, Robert A. Heinlein was also one of the first writers to explore themes related to society through science fiction. For newcomers to Heinlein, Stranger in a Strange Land ($11.94) and Starship Troopers ($15.39) are excellent starting points. Larry Niven Larry Niven is one of the most imaginative authors to ever publish in the science fiction genre. Perhaps best known for his Ringworld series ($36.42), Niven has released a mixture of hard sci-fi, humorous works, and even stories with a sort of private eye feel to them. Niven is so widely known that there is such a thing as Niven’s Laws, a series of rules explaining the universe through Niven’s viewpoint. Douglas Adams The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy ($11.29) is the first book in his highly popular series of comedy science fiction novels, and Adams’ works continue to be adapted and enjoyed to this very day. Although Adams wasn’t a sci-fi novelist in the traditional sense, having originally released The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy as a radio play, the impact of his work earned him a spot on this list. 1. What is special about Aldous Huxley’s writing? A. It connects with philosophy. B. It is widely adapted for movies. C. It is difficult for sci-fi beginners. D. It predicts scientific development. 2. Which sci-fi novel explores social topics? A. Brave New World. B. The Ringworld series. C. Stranger in a Strange Land. D. The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. 3. What do the Ringworld series and The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy have in common? A. They both focus on the universe. B. They are both entertaining to read. C. They are both basically radio plays. D. They both describe science’s influence. D 2. C 3. 根据第二段“His writing almost predicts many of the ways in which science would change the world and shapes scientific and technological advancements.(他的写作几乎预测了科学改变世界并塑造了科技进步的许多方式)”可知,Aldous Huxley写作的特别之处在于他预测了科学的发展。 根据第三段“Robert A. Heinlein was also one of the first writers to explore themes related to society through science fiction(罗伯特·A·海因莱因也是最早通过科幻小说探索与社会相关主题的作家之一)”以及紧接着推荐的代表作“For newcomers to Heinlein, Stranger in a Strange Land... are excellent starting points.(想要入门海因莱因作品的读者来说,《异乡异客》……是绝佳的入门读物)”可知,《异乡异客》是一部探索社会话题的科幻小说。 【3题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段“Perhaps best known for his Ringworld series ($36.42), Niven has released a mixture of hard sci-fi, humorous works, and even stories with a sort of private eye feel to them.(尼文凭借《环形世界》系列(36.42 美元)闻名于世,他的作品涵盖硬核科幻、幽默文学,还有带私家侦探风格的故事)”以及第五段“The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy ($11.29) is the first book in his highly popular series of comedy science fiction novels, and Adams’ works continue to be adapted and enjoyed to this very day.(《银河系漫游指南》(11.29 美元)是他大热喜剧科幻系列的首部作品,时至今日亚当斯的作品仍不断被改编、广受喜爱)”可知,这两部作品都带有幽默、喜剧色彩,因此共同点是读起来都很有趣。 B To kidult — I know it sounds odd, but bear with me — is to recreate childhood memories by taking part in activities generally considered to be suitable for children. In my case, I clocked in more hours of “Animal Crossing” (a role-playing game) than I care to admit. I became involved in watercolors and started playing “The Sims”. Apart from me, there are also plenty of millennials (千禧一代) and members of older generations who have spent quite a bit on their kidulting activity of choice. As Bloomberg recently reported, kidult shoppers have helped US toy sales increase by 37% over two years to $ 28.6 billion, according to the NPD Group, an American data tracker. Toy industry first owed the increase to exhausted parents buying their kids toys to keep them distracted, but a survey conducted by the Toy Association in 2021 found that 58% of grown-up respondents bought toys and games for themselves. Jaabo, who runs the YouTube channel “Train Tsar Fun”, always loved Legos. Now at 54, he finally has the means to make his wildest little-brick dreams come true. “I have over 6,000 sets now. The most I’ve spent on a single set is $ 850 — the LEGO Grand Carousel,” said Jaabo. “I get to do the things I could only imagine doing as a kid,” he said. “The building process is relaxing and satisfying, but the memories are better.” For many grown-ups, kidulting has been the source of a whole new community for them where they have so many nostalgic (怀旧的) childhood experiences. “Overall, I think nostalgia is just comforting,” said Nicole Booz, the author of The Kidult Handbook. “At first, play might serve as an escape from the burdens of responsibilities, disappointments, or worries but play can also arouse feelings of awe as ordinary things are seen through curious eyes from a new viewpoint,” she wrote in an email. “Play can facilitate creative benefits of imagination, fantasy, and the temporary suspension of the limits of reality.” 4. What did the US toy industry realize? A. Adult toy buyers are a big driver for sales growth. B. Toy companies should take parents’ needs seriously. C. Toy companies contribute much to the US economy. D. Adult toy buyers should reflect on their childlike activities. 5. Why did Jaabo buy so many sets of LEGO? A. To run his business. B. To stimulate his imagination. C. To reexperience his childhood. D. To satisfy his desire for shopping. 6. Which of the following does Nicole Booz probably agree with? A. Play makes people get irresponsible. B. Playful nostalgia can relieve mental pressure. C. Play makes people treasure their childhood. D. Playful nostalgia should observe reasonable limits. 7. Which of the following may serve as the best title? A. Legos, a New Trend for Grown-Ups B. Kidulting, Maybe You Should Try, Too C. Toys, a Treasured Collection by Adults D. Nostalgia, a Healthy Sense of Connection 【答案】4. A 5. C 6. B 7. 根据第三段中的“As Bloomberg recently reported, kidult shoppers have helped US toy sales increase by 37% over two years to $ 28.6 billion, according to the NPD Group, an American data tracker. Toy industry first owed the increase to exhausted parents buying their kids toys to keep them distracted, but a survey conducted by the Toy Association in 2021 found that 58% of grown-up respondents bought toys and games for themselves.(据美国数据机构NPD集团消息,彭博社近期报道,成年童心消费者助推美国玩具销量两年上涨37%,销售额达286亿美元。玩具行业起初把销量上涨归因于疲惫家长为孩子购玩具打发时间,但2021年玩具协会调研显示58%成年受访者是给自己购买玩具。)”可知,玩具行业意识到成年买家是拉动销量增长的重要力量。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段中的“Jaabo, who runs the YouTube channel “Train Tsar Fun”, always loved Legos. Now at 54, he finally has the means to make his wildest little-brick dreams come true.(经营YouTube频道“火车沙皇乐趣”的贾博一直喜爱乐高积木。如今五十四岁,他终于拥有财力去实现自己那些天马行空的积木梦想。)”以及““I get to do the things I could only imagine doing as a kid,” he said.(“我如今能做小时候只能想象去做的事了。”他说道。)”可知,贾博大量购入乐高是为重温童年经历。 【6题详解】 细节理解题。根据第六段中的““Overall, I think nostalgia is just comforting,” said Nicole Booz, the author of The Kidult Handbook. “At first, play might serve as an escape from the burdens of responsibilities, disappointments, or worries but play can also arouse feelings of awe as ordinary things are seen through curious eyes from a new viewpoint,” she wrote in an email. (《成年童心手册》一书的作者妮可·布兹表示:“总的来说,我认为怀旧本身就令人心安。”她在一封邮件中写道:“起初,玩乐或许是为了逃避责任、失意或烦恼带来的重压,但当人们用充满好奇的目光、从全新视角看待寻常事物时,玩乐也能唤起惊叹之情。”)”可知,她认同带着怀旧的玩乐能够舒缓精神压力。 【7题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是首段中的“To kidult — I know it sounds odd, but bear with me — is to recreate childhood memories by taking part in activities generally considered to be suitable for children.(成为童心成年人——我知道这听起来怪异,但请耐心听我说完——就是通过参与普遍被认为适合孩童的活动来重温儿时回忆。)” C Fear may be as old as life on Earth. It is a fundamental, deeply anxious reaction, developed over the history of biology, to protect organisms against threats to their wholeness or existence. Some of the main chemicals that contribute to the “fight or flight” response are also involved in other positive emotional states, so what makes the difference between getting excited and completely scared? When you enter a “ghost house (鬼屋)” at the amusement park, anticipating a “ghost” jumping out at you and knowing it isn’t really a threat, you are able to quickly relabel the experience. In contrast, if you were walking down a dark path at night and a stranger began running after you, your brain would know the situation was dangerous and that it was time to run! But how does your brain do this? Fear response starts in a region of the brain called the amygdala, which is responsible for detecting how much something stands out to us. The amygdala, together with the hippocampus (海马体), is involved in a higher-level process of context, which helps a person know whether a perceived threat is real. For instance, seeing a lion in the wild can cause a strong fear reaction, but seeing the same lion at a zoo causes more curiosity. Furthermore, when we experience frightening things with the people in our lives, we often find our emotions contagious in a positive way. So, when you look over your friend at the “ghost house” and she’s quickly gone from screaming to laughing, you’re able to socially pick up on her emotional state, thus positively influencing your own. While each of these factors has the possibility of influencing the way we experience fear, a common theme that connects all of them is our sense of control. When we are able to recognize what is and isn’t a real threat, and relabel an experience, we are ultimately in a place where we feel in control, which is vital to how we experience and respond to fear. When we overcome the initial “fight or flight” rush, we are often left feeling satisfied, relieved of our safety, and more confident in our ability to face the things that initially scared us. 8. What may make it different for people to feel excited or scared? A. The specific chemicals in their body. B. Their level of bravery in emergencies. C. The proper hiding of negative feelings. D. Their understanding of the surroundings. 9. What does the author desire to explain by referring to the lion in Paragraph 3? A. The brain’s judgement on a threat. B. People’s primitive fear of wild animals. C. People’s usual way of dealing with fear. D. The complexity of people’s different feelings. 10. What does the underlined word “contagious” in Paragraph 4 mean? A. Complex. B. Infectious. C. Independent. D. Visible. 11. What does the author think of our sense of control when we overcame fear? A. Complicated. B. Impractical. C. Beneficial. D. Uncommon. D 9. A 10. B 11. 根据第二段中的“When you enter a “ghost house (鬼屋)” at the amusement park, anticipating a “ghost” jumping out at you and knowing it isn’t really a threat, you are able to quickly relabel the experience. In contrast, if you were walking down a dark path at night and a stranger began running after you, your brain would know the situation was dangerous and that it was time to run!(当你走进游乐园的鬼屋,预料有鬼朝你扑来,同时清楚它并非真正危险,你能快速重新定义这段经历。相反,倘若夜里走在漆黑小路上,有陌生人追着你跑,大脑就会判定处境危险,需要逃跑)”可知,人们对周遭环境的认知区分了兴奋和恐惧。 【9题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段中的“The amygdala, together with the hippocampus (海马体), is involved in a higher-level process of context, which helps a person know whether a perceived threat is real. For instance, seeing a lion in the wild can cause a strong fear reaction, but seeing the same lion at a zoo causes more curiosity.(杏仁核与海马体参与高层次环境研判过程,帮助人类辨别感知到的威胁是否真实。例如,在野外看见狮子会引发强烈恐惧,但在动物园看见同一只狮子更多唤起好奇)”可知,举例狮子是为说明大脑对威胁的判断。 【10题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第四段中的“So, when you look over your friend at the “ghost house” and she’s quickly gone from screaming to laughing, you’re able to socially pick up on her emotional state, thus positively influencing your own.(因此,在鬼屋看向同伴,她从尖叫迅速转为大笑,你会受到她情绪的影响,进而改变自身情绪)”可知,情绪可以互相传染,contagious意为“有感染力的”,与infectious同义。 根据最后一段中的“When we are able to recognize what is and isn’t a real threat, and relabel an experience, we are ultimately in a place where we feel in control, which is vital to how we experience and respond to fear. When we overcome the initial “fight or flight” rush, we are often left feeling satisfied, relieved of our safety, and more confident in our ability to face the things that initially scared us.(当我们能够分辨什么是、什么并非真实的威胁,并且重新界定一段经历时,我们最终会处于拥有掌控感的状态,这对于我们感知恐惧、应对恐惧至关重要。当我们克服最初“战斗或逃跑”的本能冲动后,我们往往会心生满足、放下安全顾虑,并对自身直面起初令我们恐惧之事的能力更加自信)”可知,作者认为掌控感是有益的。 D From the swinging rhythms of the 1950s to the autotuned hooks of today, pop music has undergone a remarkable transformation. But what exactly has changed, and how can we measure it? Researchers identify two major “melodic (旋律的) revolutions” in pop music history: one in 1975 and another in 2000. These turning points mark significant shifts in the structure and complexity of hit melodies. Interestingly, these musical milestones aren’t perfectly in line with the revolutions in harmony and tone color, suggesting that different aspects of music may evolve at different rates. During these revolutions, melodies have generally become simpler, both in terms of pitch (音高) and rhythm. Modern pop hits tend to use a smaller range of notes and simpler rhythmic patterns compared to those from the 1950s and 60s. At the same time, there was a dramatic increase in “note density” — the number of notes squeezed into each second of music. This means that while today’s pop melodies might be simpler in structure, they’re often delivered more rapidly, creating a sense of energy and urgency that wasn’t as common in earlier decades. There are several interesting possibilities for what is happening. One theory suggests that as other aspects of music production — like complex electronic beats and richly layered instrumentation — have become more sophisticated, melodies have had to simplify to maintain a balance. Another explanation points to the changing landscape of music consumption. In an era of streaming and social media, where listeners can skip to the next song in seconds, there may be more pressure to create tunes that grab attention instantly. This could favor simpler, more repetitive melodies that are easy to remember and sing along to. Relationships between different musical features have also become stronger in recent years. For example, in post-2000 pop hits, melodies with more notes per second tend to be less complex in terms of pitch variety. This suggests that modern pop songwriting may be following stricter patterns than in the past. 12. What change has taken place in pop music over the years? A. Denser notes. B. Bigger range of pitch. C. More complex rhythms. D. More diverse tone colors. 13. Which of the following may contribute to the revolution of pop music? A. The difficulty in creating catchier tunes. B. The conventional patterns to enjoy music. C. The convenience of switching between songs. D. The need to balance increasingly intense beats. 14. What can we infer from the last paragraph? A. Pop songwriting might be more flexible in the past. B. Modern pop music prioritizes simplicity in melody. C. Post-2000 pop hits feature complexity in pitch variety. D. Relationships between musical elements are invariable. 15. What’s the purpose of the text? A. To prove a viewpoint. B. To remove some doubts. C. To illustrate a principle. D. To analyze a phenomenon. A 13. C 14. A 15. 根据文章第三段“At the same time, there was a dramatic increase in “note density” — the number of notes squeezed into each second of music. (与此同时,“音符密度”——音乐中每一秒钟的音符数量——也有了戏剧性的增加)”可知,多年来,流行音乐中高密度音符发生了变化。故选A。 根据文章倒数第二段“Another explanation points to the changing landscape of music consumption. In an era of streaming and social media, where listeners can skip to the next song in seconds, there may be more pressure to create tunes that grab attention instantly. (另一种解释指出了音乐消费格局的变化。在一个流媒体和社交媒体的时代,听众可以在几秒钟内跳到下一首歌曲,创作出能够立即吸引注意力的曲调可能会有更大的压力)”可知,在歌曲之间切换的便利可能导致流行音乐的革命。故选C。 【14题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章最后一段“For example, in post-2000 pop hits, melodies with more notes per second tend to be less complex in terms of pitch variety. This suggests that modern pop songwriting may be following stricter patterns than in the past.(例如,在2000年后的流行歌曲中,每秒音符更多的旋律在音高变化方面往往不那么复杂。这表明现代流行歌曲创作可能比过去遵循更严格的模式)”可推知,流行歌曲创作在过去可能更加灵活。故选A。 根据文章第一段“From the swinging rhythms of the 1950s to the autotuned hooks of today, pop music has undergone a remarkable transformation. But what exactly has changed, and how can we measure it? Many of you may think living with strangers, or even friends, can be challenging, especially if it’s your first time living away from home. ____16____ If you and your roommates make the effort, a happy home is in your future. While younger kids crowded around other attractions, he focused on his modest business. His real ambition, however, lay beyond this: he dreamed of owning a 3D printer. With it, he could design and create unique phone cases himself, transforming his small summer job into a proper online business. One afternoon, a 10-year-old girl named Michele stopped by and bought one phone case for her mom. As they talked, Nathan shared his dream of having a 3D printer. ‌“With that printer, I can print anything in any form,” Nathan said. “Anything in any form?” Michele’s eyes lit up with sudden excitement. “Once you get it, could you please make a leg for my pet duck Tim? Because he was missing one,” Michele said hopefully. “That’ s a cool project,” Nathan replied. He thought for a minute. “I’ll make him one, but it won’t be ready now. I have to save up some of the money myself to buy the 3D printer.” “How lucky Tim is! You are so kind!” Michele said happily, unable to contain her excitement. Before leaving, Michele exchanged phone numbers with Nathan. They discovered that they lived in the same neighborhood, which meant Nathan could easily get close to the duck and measure the size of its leg in person to ensure that a suitable prosthetic (假体的) leg could be made. He promised to reach out as soon as he could afford a printer. That evening, Nathan told his family about Michele and his promise. His parents praised his kindness and initiative. They agreed to offer some financial support to buy the printer but also emphasized the importance of his own effort. “We’re proud you’re earning this yourself, Nathan,” his father said. “Saving your share shows real commitment.” Nathan nodded firmly, feeling more determined than ever. Nathan worked very hard for the 3D printer. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ However, creating the leg model was not easy. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Nathan worked very hard for the 3D printer. He continued to sell phone cases at the carnival and even took on some odd jobs around the neighborhood. He saved every penny he earned, carefully keeping track of his progress in a notebook. Weeks passed, and finally, Nathan had saved enough money to buy the 3D printer. He was overjoyed and couldn’t wait to start working on Michele’s project. Moreover, he also shared his excitement with his friends, who were all very supportive of him. However, creating the leg model was not easy. Nathan faced many challenges along the way. He had to take precise measurements of Tim’s remaining leg and do a lot of research to understand how a prosthetic leg should be designed. He spent countless hours tinkering with the printer, adjusting the settings, and trying different materials. But he refused to give up. Finally, after many tries, he created a leg that fit Tim perfectly. Michele was overjoyed when she saw it, and Nathan felt a sense of pride and accomplishment. His hard work had paid off, and he had not only fulfilled his promise but also gained valuable skills and experience. 词汇激活: 行为类 ①继续:continue/go on/keep on ②承担:take on/undertake ③流逝:pass/elapse/go by 情绪类 ①欣喜若狂:overjoyed/ecstatic/thrilled ②成就:accomplishment/achievement 【点睛】[高分句型1] He saved every penny he earned, carefully keeping track of his progress in a notebook.(运用了现在分词作伴随状语) [高分句型2] He had to take precise measurements of Tim’s remaining leg and do a lot of research to understand how a prosthetic leg should be designed.(运用了连接副词how引导宾语从句) [高分句型3] Finally, after many tries, he created a leg that fit Tim perfectly.(运用了关系代词that引导限制性定语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 南宁三中2025~2026学年度下学期高二月考(三) 英语试题 2026.6 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。 1. B To kidult — I know it sounds odd, but bear with me — is to recreate childhood memories by taking part in activities generally considered to be suitable for children. Nostalgia, a Healthy Sense of Connection C Fear may be as old as life on Earth. C. Beneficial. D. Uncommon. D From the swinging rhythms of the 1950s to the autotuned hooks of today, pop music has undergone a remarkable transformation. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
