People have been facing the problem of finding clean energy for a long time. More than a hundred years ago, people started placing turbines(涡轮) in rivers. The moving water turned the turbines and produced power. More recently, companies have begun using the power of the wind to provide electrical energy. Both of them avoid the use of fossil fuels and help build a cleaner environment.
In the past few years, however, another energy can be chosen on the coasts of the United States. People there now want to use the power of the rise and fall of ocean water each day. Like wind power, tidal power provides very clean energy.
Wind comes and goes and there is no way to control it. Tidal power is predictable(可预测的) and it happens every day. People know exactly when the tide will come in and go out.
In some ways, tidal turbines are very similar to those used to make electricity from wind. For example, both types of turbines must have a very heavy foundation. Wind turbines need them because they are very tall and might fall over in high winds. Tidal turbines need them because they are placed in narrow openings on the ocean floor. In these places, the force of the moving water is very strong.
In other ways, the two types of turbines are quite different. The blades(桨叶) of a tidal turbine must be much stronger than those of a wind turbine.A company built some model turbines for its project in New York City's East River. When they put the turbines into the river, the blades broke off at once. The company had to design new, stronger blades before the project could continue.
29.What can we learn about tidal power according to the text?
A. Tidal power is cheap to produce. B. Tidal power works in any place.
C. Tidal power doesn't need turbines. D. Tidal power needs stronger blades.
30.The following sentence “However, it does have one big advantage over wind power.” can be best placed at the beginning of ____.
A. Paragraph 2 B. Paragraph 3 C. Paragraph 4 D. Paragraph 5
31.How is the passage organized?
A. By explaining events in time order. B. By offering problems and advice.
C. By describing two different types of energy. D. By describing the use of fossil fuels.
32.Which is the best title for this passage?
A. The history of clean energy B. Fossil fuels vs clean energy
C. How turbines work in rivers and oceans D. Tidal energy: a better choice than wind power

Chongqing, a city in south-western China, has faced many environmental problems in recent years. Because of its quick development, the city faces air pollution, water pollution and waste management problems. However, Chongqing has taken useful measures(措施)to improve its environment.
In the past, Chongqing's air quality was poor because of factories and vehicle emissions (车辆排放物).To solve this problem, the government has introduced strict rules on industrial pollution and encouraged the use of clean energy. Chongqing lies at the meeting point of the Yangtze River and the Jialing River, which makes water resource protection important. The city has built more sewage treatment plants (污水处理厂)to clean wastewater before it flows into the rivers. Moreover, the government plans to clean up the rivers and prevent people from throwing rubbish into them.
The government has also set up a system to reduce the amount of rubbish. People are encouraged to separate their waste into different kinds, such as recyclable things, kitchen waste and hazardous waste like harmful chemicals. Schools and communities often organize activities to teach people how to separate waste correctly.
To make the city more comfortable to live in, Chongqing has planted millions of trees and built many parks and green spaces. These areas not only improve the environment but also provide places for people to relax and exercise.
Thanks to these efforts, Chongqing's environment has improved a lot. However, protecting the environment is a long-term task, and everyone needs to do their part.

As a childcare volunteer in South Africa, you'll provide help for kids in Cape Town. Many young children in South Africa's poor areas miss out on early education. As a result, they don't get the support they need to grow and become the best they can be. ①
Today, more than half of South Africa's population live in poverty(贫困). In some areas, the living conditions are especially challenging. Not having enough places to care for children means many children are left alone without protection.
In Cape Town and some nearby areas, finding cheap and easy-to-get childcare is very hard. This is the biggest challenge for poor parents. As a volunteer, you're expected to take part in many activities. You'll help with cleaning and food preparation. Moreover, you need to teach Math and reading. ③ Your project work in Cape Town runs from Monday to Friday and weekends are free. Our local team will pair you with an experienced volunteer.
