根据“village with a lot of shops”及后文具体店名,可知Terry’s butcher是村子里的商店之一,属于包含关系,应用including“包括”。

Nowadays, AI language tools are everywhere. People might wonder if learning a language is still worth the effort. After all, why is it necessary to spend time learning a new language when AI can translate anything in a blink (眨眼间)?
However, learning a language is still worth it! While AI tools are amazing and make life easier, they can’t truly take the place of the usefulness of language acquisition So why is language learning still important today?
In the first place, speaking foreign languages allows you to connect with different cultures. Research shows that bilingualism (双语能力) can make your brain strong. In fact, language learning helps you build “cognitive reserve (认知储备),” which can protect your mind from decline (衰退).
Besides, speaking different languages is a powerful skill for your career. Multilingual (多语言的) people often have an advantage in the job market. They develop stronger communication and problem-solving skills. These skills are highly valuable in our connected world, allowing them to work efficiently in international settings. Thus, more job chances will be there for them to choose from.
Last but not least, language learning opens up your mind. The learning process trains people to see things from different sides. It helps you form your own critical opinions. Instead of being told what to think, you can actively read, listen, speak, and think for yourself.
In short, AI is a great tool for language learning. Looking ahead, language learning remains a deeply worthwhile investment. The advantages go beyond words — they shape how you connect with the world.
24. What does the word “them” in Paragraph 4 refer to?
A. Multilingual people. B. Job markets. C. Communication skills. D. AI language tools.
25. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. AI tools will take the place of language learning.
B. Language learning seldom helps with vocabulary.
C. Learning a language develops your ability of thinking.
D. Speaking different languages offers no career advantage.
26. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. AI tools help to make learning a language less useful.
B. Learning a language helps protect your brain from decline.
C. The main advantage of language learning is getting a better job.
D. Language learning still matters for the brain, career, and thinking.
A 25. C 26. D
第四段指出“Multilingual people often have an advantage in the job market... Thus, more job chances will be there for them to choose from”,此处“them”回指前文提到的“Multilingual people”。
第三段指出“language learning helps you build ‘cognitive reserve,’ which can protect your mind from decline”,第五段指出“The learning process trains people to see things from different sides. It helps you form your own critical opinions”,说明语言学习能发展思维能力。
C
Later that afternoon, a group of soldiers brought baskets of grain (谷物). They brought so many baskets that the ground became a sea of grain.
Tebelis looked at the endless baskets and saw no way out. “Not even a strong, young cow could mill (磨) all of this,” he said desperately to one of the soldiers, but the man said nothing.
When Agathon returned, Tebelis told him about the king. “What were you doing when the king came?” his father asked.
“I was taking a rest. The sun was hot, and the cow was sick ...” Tebelis didn’t know what else to say.
Agathon said nothing. He began turning the millstone himself, his face red from effort. Tebelis couldn’t bear to watch. He joined in, but when they stopped for the night, there were far more baskets left than they could possibly mill in a week.
Tebelis couldn’t eat that night. As he fell asleep, he thought of the impossible task. Then he dreamed of water. He felt the cool stream pressing against his hand ...
He opened his eyes. “That’s it! I can use water to mill the grain! I can make a watermill!”
The next morning, he described his idea to his father.
“I don’t believe water will turn a heavy wheel,” Agathon said. “We must work very hard today.”
“We could never mill all that grain by ourselves!” Tebelis replied. “Think of how tired we were last night! I’m sure my idea will work.”
“Very well,” Agathon agreed. “We will try it your way.”
Tebelis cut down a tree and built a large wheel. The next day, he and his father moved the heavy millstone to the stream. They fixed it to the water wheel and watched.
Nothing happened at first. Tebelis’s heart began to race. Then slowly, ever so slowly, the millstone began to turn. Faster, faster—it was working!
“We did it!” Tebelis shouted.
The watermill was a great success. In just a few days, they milled every basket of Alexander’s grain. The laziest boy in Greece had saved the day—not with his muscles (肌肉), but with his clever mind.
—Adapted from The Laziest Boy in Greece
27. Why does the writer use the expression “a sea of grain” in Paragraph 1?
A. To show the very huge and difficult task.
B. To tell readers where the grain came from.
C. To show that the grain became wet and bad.
D. To tell readers the grain was as deep as water.
28. What does the underlined word “desperately” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. Helpfully. B. Thankfully. C. Hopelessly. D. Carelessly.
29. What’s the correct order of the following events according to the passage?
① Agathon agreed to try building the watermill.
② Tebelis dreamed of water pressing against his hand.
③ The millstone began to turn after a moment of silence.
④ Tebelis realized they could not finish the work in a week.
A. ①④②③ B. ④③①② C. ④②①③ D. ①③②④
30. Which of the following would be the best title for this story?
A. A Clever Idea Saves the Day B. The Story of a Lazy Young Cow
C. A Heavy Task of Milling Grain D. The Hard Work of Father and Son
A 28. C 29. C 30. A
第一段“They brought so many baskets that the ground became a sea of grain.”
第二段“Tebelis looked at the endless baskets and saw no way out.”
第五段“there were far more baskets left than they could possibly mill in a week”表明Tebelis意识到一周内完不成工作,对应④;第六段“As he fell asleep, he thought of the impossible task. Then he dreamed of water. He felt the cool stream pressing against his hand ...”表明Tebelis梦到水流碰到手,对应②;第十一段“‘Very well,’ Agathon agreed. ‘We will try it your way.’”表明父亲同意尝试建造水磨,对应①;倒数第三段“Then slowly, ever so slowly, the millstone began to turn.”
文章末尾“The laziest boy in Greece had saved the day—not with his muscles (肌肉), but with his clever mind.”

Every year on March 14, math lovers around the world celebrate Pi Day. At first sight, it may seem like just another fun day for numbers, but in fact, this special date celebrates one of the most important numbers in mathematics.
The date March 14 is written as 3.14, which matches the first three numbers of π or pi. It represents the relationship between the circumference (圆周) of a circle and its diameter (直径). No matter how large or small a circle is, this relationship always stays the same and the numbers of pi have endless non - repeating numbers. This simple idea works for all circles. If you divide a circle’s circumference by its diameter, you always get the same number: pi.
The story of pi goes back thousands of years. Ancient people were curious about circles and the Greek mathematician Archimedes developed one of the earliest methods for calculating (计算) pi. His work helped people understand the value of pi could be calculated more exactly with careful reasoning.
The modern celebration of Pi Day began in 1988. Physicist Larry Shaw organized the first Pi Day celebration in San Francisco by walking in circles and eating pie. Soon this idea was widely accepted by schools, teachers, and math lovers. Over time, Pi Day became an international celebration of curiosity, learning and the joy of mathematics.
Pi appears in far more places than many people realize. It plays an important role in calculating the area of a circle, understanding waves, studying engineering and even exploring space. Scientists use pi when working with satellites (卫星) and designing buildings. Pi Day is also a great reminder that math is not just about solving problems on paper. It is about discovering rules, asking questions, and exploring how the universe works. A single number like pi has a close relationship with geometry, science, and real life in surprising ways.
For students, Pi Day is a chance to see math from a different light. Rather than think about numbers as something difficult, it becomes a fun challenge to explore numbers of pi or discover where math appears in everyday life.
