It was summer. After cycling 33 kilometres, my cousin Gabriel and I were ____1____. We planned to get lunch and then ____2____ back to Valence, where I was spending my holiday with Gabriel’s family.
We bought a baguette. As we ate, I noticed a girl in a queue smiling at us.
I met her again when she sat on a bench, enjoying her bread in front of a riverboat named Voyageur. Soon she boarded the boat. Then I noticed a colourful handbag on the bench. The girl had left it!
She was on the upper deck (甲板)! I held up the bag and ____3____ it to get her attention. When she noticed the bag, she opened her mouth ____4____. But her face fell—the boat started to pull away from the dock (码头).
“We can return it! The boat’s next stop is Valence!” Gabriel came up.
“Great! But do you think we can ____5____?” I asked.
Gabriel laughed. “We’re going to find out!”
It was a race now: us against the boat. If the boat beat (打败) us to Valence, we might ____6____ have the chance to give back the bag.
Pedaling hard, we quickly caught up to the Voyageur. When the boat disappeared (消失) behind us, we felt confident enough to relax our pace.
Then it happened: pffft! Flat tire (轮胎漏气)! My heart sank.
We had to stop and take out tools when the Voyageur was coming near. I saw the girl again. She noticed our ____7____ and shook her head sadly.
After quickly ____8____ it , we were back on our way. The boat pulled ahead. We watched ____9____ as the boat disappeared around a bend.
Finally we arrived, but the Voyageur had docked. We failed!
Gabriel suddenly shouted, “I see her!”
The girl was strolling towards us! “You followed my boat!” she smiled.
“No, your boat followed us,” I joked. “____10____ I got a flat tire, that is.” I handed her the bag.

根据下文“We planned to get lunch”可知,二人打算吃东西,hungry“饥饿的”符合;lazy“懒惰的”、relaxed“放松的”、bored“无聊的”不符合语境。
根据上文“When she noticed the bag”可知,女孩发现自己遗落的包被他人捡到,第一反应应是“惊讶”,in surprise“吃惊地”符合;in fear“害怕地”、in silence“沉默地”、in sadness“难过地”不合情境。

My heart sank.”
根据上文“The boat pulled ahead.”

It was my first day at school. It was also Miss Caroline’s first day to be a teacher.
Miss Caroline began the day by reading us a story about cats. Then she started to teach us the alphabet (字母表).
When Miss Caroline discovered that I was literate (有读写能力的), she said, “Tell your father not to teach you any more. It’s best to begin reading and writing with a fresh mind.”
After supper that night, Atticus sat down with the paper and called, “Scout, ready to read?”
I told Atticus I didn’t feel very well and didn’t think I’d go to school any more if it was all right with him.
“You never went to school and you do all right, so I’ll just stay home too. You can teach me like Granddaddy taught you.”
“No, I can’t,” said Atticus. “I have to make a living. Besides, they’d put me in prison if I kept you at home. Now what’s the matter?”
I told him what happened at school. “Miss Caroline said you taught me all wrong, so we can’t ever read any more. Please don’t send me back, please sir.”
“First of all,” he said, “if you can learn a simple trick, Scout, you’ll get along a lot better with all kinds of people. You never really understand a person until you think about things from his point of view—”
“Sir?”
“—until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.”
Atticus continued (继续), “You learned many things today. Miss Caroline learned several things herself. We could not expect her to learn all our ways in one day, and we should understand her when she knew no better.”
“But if I keep on going to school, we can’t ever read any more…”
“That’s really worrying you, isn’t it?”
“Yes, sir.”
When Atticus looked at me, I saw the look on his face that always made me expect something. “Do you know what a compromise (妥协) is?” he asked.
“Breaking the law?”
“No, an agreement. It works this way,” he said. “If you promise (答应) me to go to school, we’ll go on reading every night as usual. Is it OK?”
“Yes sir!”

A. Go to school. B. Stay at home. C. Teach herself. D. Make a living.
19. Why did Atticus make a deal with Scout?
A. Because he was afraid of the law.
B. Because he wanted Scout to listen to him.
C. Because he wanted Scout to go to school and still love reading.
D. Because he thought school was not important.
20. What can we infer (推断) from the passage?

Inside the hall, the door was shut, and the key lay on the glass stand. Poor Alice, who was about one foot high after taking some drink, found a cake on the floor. She went up and soon ate all the cake.
“How strange! How tall I am!” said Alice. She looked down at her feet—they seemed so far off. In fact, she was now over nine feet high, which meant she still couldn’t get through the door. She sat down, and had a good cry till there was a large pool all around her.
Suddenly, she heard the sound of feet not far off. It was the Rabbit that had come back, with a fan in his hand. Alice felt so in need of help from someone that when he came near, she called out, “If you please, sir…” The Rabbit started as if shot, dropped the fan and ran off as fast as possible.
Alice picked up the fan and as the hall was hot, she fanned herself. “Dear, dear! How strange all things are today! I do wish to get out of the hall! ________” she said.
Then she noticed herself in the glass—she was now not more than two feet high, and still shrinking quite fast. That was the fan! She realized this and dropped it at once, or she would shrink to the size of an ant soon.
Alice was in a sad fear at the quick change. “Things are worse,” said the poor girl, “I was never so small as this. How can I get out?” As she said these words, she lost her footing and was up to her chin (下巴) in salt water—her own tears.
Just then Alice noticed a mouse swimming towards her.
“Will it be useful now to speak to this mouse? All things are so strange here. I should think maybe it can talk. At least there’s no harm to try.” So she swam up.

What helps neighbours become friends? Is it living close to each other? Or does the type of neighbourhood matter (要紧) more? Researchers in Sweden studied these questions and found some surprising answers.
The researchers surveyed thousands of people across ten different types of neighbourhoods in Sweden. They wanted to understand how often people interact (互动) with their neighbours—whether they greet them, talk to them, or ask them for help.
The results showed that greeting neighbours is very common (普遍). Most people say hello when they see someone living nearby. However, talking to neighbours happens less often, and asking neighbours for help is not very common.
Interestingly, the study found that the neighbourhood plays a big role. In some neighbourhoods, people have similar ways of life. There, neighbours talk and help each other more often. However, in big cities with many different kinds of people, neighbours often have weaker connections (联系).
The researchers also found that housing type matters. People living in flats interact less with their neighbours than those in houses. Personality plays a role too. People who are more friendly and like to talk often have more neighbourly interactions, while those who are more worried may not connect with people next door .
Why does all this matter? The researchers say that interaction with neighbours is important not only for a person’s happiness but also for a community to work well together. When neighbours care for and help each other, communities become stronger. People feel safer and happier, and the community can face problems better.
▲ As cities become more different and more people live in flats, neighbourly connections may weaken. The researchers say that city planners and community groups should think carefully about how to create ways for neighbours to meet and build friendships.
After all, good neighbours don’t just happen—they grow from the places we live and the small moments we share.
26. How does the writer start the passage?
A. By giving examples of different friends.
B. By telling a story about neighbourhoods.
C. By asking questions about neighbours.
D. By showing surprising answers of a study.
27. What can we learn from the findings of the study?
A. People greet neighbours more often than they ask for help.
B. Neighbourly interactions are the same in all neighbourhoods.
C. People living in flats have more interactions than those in houses.
D. Friendly people usually have fewer neighbourly interactions.
28. What does Paragraph 6 mainly tell us?
A. Helping neighbours is the most important thing in life.
B. Neighbourly interactions help both people and communities.
C. Neighbours should learn to care for and help each other.
D. Facing problems is good for a person’s happiness.
29. Which of the following is the most suitable for ▲ .
A. However, the study also brings worries.
B. Then, the study talks about changes in cities.
C. Finally, the study shows how neighbours help.
D. Surely, the study has some good news for us.
30. Why did the writer write the passage?
A. To study how often people greet their neighbours.
B. To tell people how to move to a good neighbourhood.
C. To help people learn what makes neighbourly connections.
D. To create ways for people to meet and build friendship.
26. C 27. A 28. B 29. A 30. C
