Every Sunday, Leo and David go walking in the hills. Last weekend, they came to a place where the road split into two. David wanted to take the small, little-used path up the hill. He thought it would be faster and more fun. However, Leo refused. He said the unmarked road might lead them to get lost, while the main road was much safer.
David did not give up easily and tried to persuade Leo. He believed the unknown way could bring a nice surprise. But Leo still chose safety over excitement. They had a short disagreement and finally took their usual road. A heavy silence hung between them and the view from the top seemed less beautiful that day.
Back home, David told his parents about the argument and thought Leo was too timid (胆怯的). His parents told him that Leo was not timid but wise. Sometimes, a friend’s “no” is the kindest “yes” of all.
David realized his mistake and said sorry to Leo sincerely. Leo explained that the small path was in poor condition and could be dangerous after rain. Luckily, he had found a new safe road to a beautiful waterfall. He invited David to explore it together the following week. David accepted happily, and their friendship became closer than before.
39. Why did David want to try the different road?
A. Because he thought it was safer.
B. Because it led to a beautiful waterfall.
C. Because Leo advised him to have a try first.
D. Because he thought it might be faster and more fun.
40. How did the friends feel on the way up the hill?
A. Excited. B. Worried. C. Unhappy. D. Cheerful.

Li Jiating is a middle school student from Ningxia. Recently, she’s won online praise for risking her life to save a child.
One day, as Li cycled past the lake, she saw a 4-year-old boy who fell into the freezing water while playing on the thin ice. Some people called the police at once, but hesitated (犹豫) to save the boy themselves. They were afraid the ice would break further under their weight. At this critical moment, Li stepped forward without hesitation. “I’m lightweight. Let me save him!” she said.
With a plastic pipe (管子) in her hand, Li moved carefully towards the ice hole. However, the ice suddenly gave way, and Li fell into the freezing water. Though the water was freezing cold, she held onto the pipe tightly. And with the help of firefighters, the boy was successfully rescued (营救).
After she knew that the boy was safe, Li quickly left and rode home. When her family noticed her wet clothes, she just said, “I had gotten wet by a sprinkler truck (洒水车) on my way home.” It wasn’t until later that evening, when Li’s aunt saw a video of the rescue online, that her family learned the truth. Later, the mother of the rescued boy visited Li’s home to express her gratitude (感激) in person.
Li has set a good example for us with her courage and kindness, and we should all learn from her.

Do you ever feel stuck when facing a hard problem, or give up easily when things go wrong? It’s usually because our mind isn’t strong enough. But don’t worry—the following tips can help.
Have a positive self-talk. Your inner voice shapes your mind, so choose positive thoughts over negative ones. For example, if you think “I’ll never finish this hard homework”, tell yourself “Step by step, I will get it done.”
Try to accept uncertainty. If you want to control everything, you will fall into endless worry about the future. Please remember: We can’t predict everything, but that’s totally fine! True strength lies in focusing on what you can do well at the moment.
See criticism (批评) as an opportunity. Most of us usually get upset even by small criticism. Yet what if we saw it differently? Instead of viewing criticism as a setback (挫折), regard it as an opportunity to improve yourself. In fact, kind and helpful criticism guides you to do better.
Learn from your past. Looking back is not about feeling regret. It’s about learning what worked and what didn’t. Maybe you failed a test but improved next time, or you felt nervous before a speech but still finished it well.
The journey to a stronger mind isn’t smooth, but never give up.
46. What can we learn from Paragraph 3?
A. People can control everything in the future.
B. We need to predict everything before acting.
C. Uncertainty always brings us endless worry.
D. We should focus on what we can do right now.
47. What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 4 refer to?
A. The setback. B. The criticism.
C. The opportunity. D. The improvement.
48. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Tips for Building a Stronger Mind B. How to Stay Positive Every Day
C. The Power of Self-talk and Criticism D. Learning from Your Past Mistakes

When you watched the 2026 CCTV Spring Festival Gala, you were certainly attracted by a wonderful show called Wu BOT. In this show, smart humanoid robots showed traditional Chinese kung fu together with young martial arts (武术) players. It soon became one of the most popular shows at this year’s gala.
These robots are developed and made by Unitree Robotics, a top robot company in China. The Unitree G1 and H2 robots can do very difficult actions, such as drunken boxing, nunchaku (双节棍), parkour and even backflips (后空翻). They perform on stage with students from the famous Tagou Martial Arts School in Henan. With high-precision (高精密度的) control and stable design, the robots move smoothly and work well with human performers.
In only one year, great progress has already been made. At the 2025 gala, these robots could only dance simple group dances. They were not able to perform difficult kung fu moves at that time. But this year, they finished difficult kung fu movements without any trouble. This big change shows how fast robot control and collaborative (协作的) technology are developing.
Wu BOT is not only an interesting stage show. It brings together traditional Chinese culture and modern technology in a creative way. It helps young people look at kung fu from a new point of view. It also lets people know about the latest development of China’s humanoid robots. This is just a start. In the future, humanoid robots will be used in more areas.
49. What’s the main idea of Paragraph 2?
A. How people control the robots to do difficult actions.

C. Why the robots work with human performers.
D. When the robots were made by a robot company.
50. Why does the writer mention the robot performance at the 2025 gala?
A. To tell us robots could do kung fu in 2025.
B. To introduce a new robot company in China.
C. To explain why robots can work well with humans.
D. To show how fast the robot technology has developed.
51. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. The show Wu BOT has received great attention.
B. Robots could do very difficult actions at the 2025 gala.
C. The writer thinks the show is boring and meaningless.
D. The robots performed better than the martial arts players.
52. What will the writer probably talk about next?
A. The history of traditional Chinese kung fu.

Mr. Brown was known for one thing: rules. He had a rule for everything.
One day, when he stood before the class with a small smile, everyone was quiet and ready to listen. Were there any new rules coming? But he said, “If everyone passes the test, you will make the rules for one whole week.”
The classroom became noisy at once. “Really, sir? Any rules we want?” asked one boy.
“Yes,” said Mr. Brown. “But remember, everyone must pass.” The students were all excited and nervous. When Mr. Brown gave back the test papers, to their amazement, everyone had passed.
The students quickly made their list. There were only four rules: no homework, phones allowed in class, teachers must bring snacks every day, and no tests — only games.
On Monday morning, the classroom felt like a party. Music played, students ate crisps, and Mr. Brown took out biscuits. Everyone laughed loudly. By Tuesday, things started to change. The classroom became messy. By Wednesday, even the games were a problem. Students argued about who was winning. Nobody was learning, and nobody was really happy.
Mr. Brown never stopped them. By Friday, the students had had enough. They thought the week felt like a failure. Then they went to Mr. Brown and begged (恳求) to have the old rules back.
Mr. Brown smiled. “Now you see. Rules are not just to stop fun but to protect you.” The students nodded. The old rules returned, and life in the classroom became calm again.

A. Excited. B. Worried. C. Unhappy. D. Cheerful.

A. The setback. B. The criticism.
C. The opportunity. D. The improvement.

But don’t worry—the following tips can help.”和最后一段“The journey to a stronger mind isn’t smooth, but never give up.”可知,文章主要给出的是塑造强大内心的方法,因此“Tips for Building a Stronger Mind”最合适作为标题。

Dear Henry,
I’m glad to share with you the event “Read Together, Grow Together” at our school. It was held on March 2nd, 2026.
There were lots of fun activities for us to take part in. First, we decorated our class book corners with colorful posters and put in our favorite books. Then, we sat together to share reading experience. I talked about how The Little Prince taught me to cherish friendship. The most fun part was when some groups acted out short plays based on their favorite stories. It really brought the books to life!

Yours,
