Passage 1
Last Saturday, I took part in a volunteer activity at the old people’s home with my classmates. We met at the school gate at 8 o’clock in the morning and went there by bus.
When we arrived, the old people were 1 us. First, we cleaned their rooms and washed their clothes. Some boys helped fix the broken chairs and tables. I talked with an old grandma 2 used to be a teacher. She told me many interesting stories about her teaching days.
After that, we put on a small 3 for them. Some classmates sang songs, some danced, and I told a funny story. The old people laughed happily and clapped their hands. One old grandpa even 4 a piece of Beijing Opera for us. It was wonderful!
At noon, we had lunch together with the old people. We cooked dumplings and some delicious dishes for them. They said the food was the 5 they had ever tasted.
Before we left, we gave the old people some gifts we had prepared, such as books and scarves. They thanked us again and again. On the way back, I felt a little tired, 6 very happy.
This activity taught me a lot. It made me realize that old people need our 7 and care. We should spend more time with them and listen to their stories. 8 is not just about giving things to others. It’s about making them feel loved and valued.
I will 9 forget this special day. I hope more and more people will join us in helping the old people. 10 everyone gives a little love, the world will become a better place.

Passage 1
For the past 20 years, Reckoning Theater in Beijing has been narrating (讲述) the scenes and settings of movies to its audience. That's because all its audience members are 1 people, like 65-year-old Xiao Huanyi who can’t see. “I had to listen to the stories on the radio in the past,” he said. “But this cinema 2 the scenes so I can imagine the story myself. That is amazing.”
By 2021, there were over 17 million blind or partly blind people in China. However, when it comes to meeting the needs of these people, spaces like Reckoning Theater are still 3 , voices calling for a better life for them are growing louder and never stop. The public don’t 4 want them to live — they want them to live better, both in body and in heart.
Reckoning Theater was started by Wang Weili in 2005. The 64-year-old still remembers watching a movie with a blind friend in 2000. He described every scene to his friend 5 , and his friend really enjoyed it. This experience encouraged Wang to start the theater with his own savings. “They have the right to see a film just like us, but they see it through 6 .” Wang said, “A better life goes far beyond basic living needs. 7 the government has provided special schools and sidewalks, these alone are not enough.”
According to Wang, it is not easy to narrate a movie. Preparations for screening a two-and-a-half-hour movie could take as 8 as two weeks. He must watch the movie many times to know the story and its characters. When he narrates, Wang talks about what is shown on the 9 , instead of what happens.

Passage 2
It was Friday afternoon, and our class was divided into teams for a group project. I was put in a team with Mike, Lisa, and Tom. We had to work together to create a talk about teamwork itself.
At first, everything went 1 . Mike wanted to start with the introduction. Lisa thought we should begin with a video. Tom said neither was interesting. I didn’t care much about the work. I just wanted someone to tell me 2 — not every detail.
“You’re all missing the point!” Mike shouted. “We need a leader!”
“No, we need a plan!” Lisa shouted back.
We spent the first twenty minutes arguing (争吵), and the situation became increasingly 3 . Finally, Tom suggested asking our teacher, Ms. Chen, for help. She smiled and said, “Why don’t you try what Rita Charlesworth suggests in her book?”
“Who’s Rita Charlesworth?” we asked 4 .
Ms. Chen handed us a page from a magazine. It was an interview with Rita, a teamwork master. According to Rita, the biggest problem in teams is that people don’t say what they really think — they are not 5 enough with one another. They also have their own personal goals that don’t match the team’s goal.
“That’s us!” Tom said. “Mike wants to be the leader. Lisa wants to make a video. And I want to 6 the whole thing without too much trouble.”
We all laughed. Then Lisa had an idea. “What if we make our talk about the very 7 we are having right now? A team failing to work as a team?”
Mike thought for a second and then nodded, “That’s actually 8 .”
So we did. We acted out our own argument. The whole class laughed. Ms. Chen gave us an A.But the best part was what Tom said after the talk: “I guess we finally learned how to work as a team — by 9 how not to.”
We all nodded. Then Mike added, “So… who’s going to 10 our next project?”

10 everyone gives a little love, the world will become a better place.

looking for“寻找”、asking for“请求”、paying for“支付”均不符合欢迎场景。
and“和”表并列,or“或者”表选择,so“所以”表因果。

Thanks to Reckoning Theater, blind people can enjoy movies like everyone else. It brings them joy, knowledge, and a chance to 10 to the world.

根据前文提到“Reckoning Theater has been narrating the scenes and settings of movies to its audience” (心目影院一直在向观众讲述电影的场景和画面),此处应选表示“描述”的词。
“in fact”事实上,“in danger”处于危险中,“in surprise”惊讶地,均不符合。
“as short as”短至,“as fast as”快至,“as slow as”慢至,均不符合“两周时间”的语境。
“connect to”连接/与…… “contribute to”贡献于,“communicate”后通常接with,“compare to”比作,均不如“connect”贴切。

And just like that, the argument started all over again.

Leo hated his name. Every time the teacher called “Leo” in class, he would sink lower in his chair, wishing he could disappear. He thought his name sounded 1 and old-fashioned, like something from a black-and-white movie. His classmates had cool names like “Alex” or “Mia”. Leo 2 his name made him different—in a bad way.

After class, a classmate said, “Leo, that’s really cool.” For the first time, Leo 9 when hearing his name.
Leo learned that self-acceptance doesn’t come from changing who you are. It comes from discovering the meaning behind what you already have. Everyone has a story. Sometimes you need to listen—and then decide to live it 10 .
Leo finally felt proud of his name.
