A strong community is made of people who care for each other. As a teenager, you might think you cannot contribute (贡献) much. 29 These ways not only support other people but also help you feel part of society.
One common way to help is volunteering at local events. 30 They always need volunteers to guide visitors or pick up litter. Taking part helps build a cleaner and friendlier area for everyone.
31 For example, you could walk their dog, carry shopping bags or simply have a short conversation. Many older people feel lonely, and your kindness can make their day better. This is a simple but powerful way to care for the elderly people around you.
School projects often connect with the community. You can join groups that collect old items like coats, toys and books for families in need. These donations (捐赠) make a difference to people who are having a difficult time. 32
Another idea is to help keep public spaces nice. You can water plants or help paint public walls. Helping in the community does not take much time, but it creates strong connections between people. 33 By giving a little time and kindness, teenagers can make their community a better place for everyone.
A. You can also help the elderly people who live nearby.
B. Many communities hold sports days or clean-up days.
C. The other way is to spend time with people who you love.

Is it OK to send humans to space?
Sending humans into space is very difficult. Astronauts need air, food, and some special protection. There are plenty more difficulties besides these, and if anything goes wrong, astronauts are a long way from home. With such difficulties, is it really worth it, especially as uncrewed missions (无人探测任务) have already been there? What’s your view — is it OK to send humans to space?
Yes — humans offer something special
Sending people into space feels more magical than just sending machines. The idea of people traveling to places no one has been to before is inspiring (令人鼓舞的). Some people think humans will live on other planets one day, so it is necessary to get used to the difficulties of space. Besides, uncrewed missions will never create the same excitement as human astronauts. What’s more, humans make different observations (观察) to those of machines, and can talk about their experiences. Their stories and the descriptions of what they’ve done are more believable than a robot’s report.
No — it’s much safer to send robots
Humans are more important than machines and it takes care and money to keep them alive in space. For example, machines don’t need food or air and don’t age in the same way people do. It’s far safer to send uncrewed missions on risky tasks. Are humans’ descriptions really so much more valuable than a computer’s observations? After all, uncrewed missions into space have made unbelievable discoveries and traveled huge distances, including Voyager 1, which was sent in 1977 and is now more than 15 billion miles from the earth. Machines can also survive conditions that humans couldn’t, such as extreme (极端的) heat. Machines have landed on the surface of Venus, where the average surface temperature is 464℃.
