As one of Forbes China’s top 100 outstanding craftsmen of 2024, he is turning ancient Chinese buildings into toys. Born in Shanxi, China, Liu loved visiting ancient temples and pagodas (寺庙和佛塔) near his hometown as a child. These buildings used a special woodworking skill called the mortise-and-tenon joint structure (榫卯结构). This skill has a history of over 7, 000 years. It puts pieces together without nails or glue (钉子和胶水). Liu thought the traditional structures were creative and amazing. He wanted people to touch and play with them, not just to look at them in museums. When he grew up, Liu came up with the idea of making mortise-and-tenon building blocks (积木). He started reading books and visiting ancient buildings to learn more. He tried to make small models of mortise-and-tenon structures using the same woodworking skill. But that was not easy. The small parts needed to fit perfectly to stay balanced. Liu tried many times and also learned from village craftsmen. In 2013, Liu finally created his first sets of building blocks. They sold out quickly online. Later, he opened his own workshop and used plastic (塑料) for some parts to lower costs. He wanted people to touch and play with them, not just to look at them in museums.” 故选A。 40.细节理解题。根据最后一段“He hopes his toys will help share China’s ancient wisdom with the world.” B。 D It’s funny, isn’t it? Babies can’t do anything but eat, cry, and stop us from sleeping at night. But we think they’re very cute, and we want to do everything for them! OK, so babies look cute with their fat legs and arms and their big round eyes. But it’s not only how they look that makes them cute. It’s also the things they do. When babies learn to speak and walk, we find them cute. This is partly because they make mistakes. They say the wrong word or say a word in a funny way. Think of a little baby learning to walk—lots and lots of mistakes! But mistakes aren’t always cute. Think about it. You ask a friend to dinner. He gets food on his face and orange juice on your kitchen table. You’re not happy. But a baby does the same thing, and you think it’s cute. Babies’ mistakes are cute because they are young and helpless. We humans know our babies can’t survive without our help. Like all living things, babies grow up—they get bigger! Do they stop being cute? Maybe a little. But kids, adults (成年人), and much older adults can still be cute. Small children often play at being adults—they dress up in adults’ clothes or put on makeup or do adult things, like “being a doctor” or “teaching school”. Parents can be cute, too. When we see the love between a parent and child, our mind tells us, that’s cute! And then there are cute old people. What makes them cute? Often, it’s their behavior. Older people sometimes do funny things. They are like young people. They show that they’re in love, they start new sports, or they like to use modern things like computers or smartphones. Older people are also cute because they are a little like babies. They can be innocent, and they often need more help than younger people. Again, something in our mind tells us to protect them. 42.Why do people think babies are cute? A.Because they can speak clearly and walk fast. B.Because they have lovely looks and helpless behaviors. C.Because they can survive without any help. D.Because they often get food on their faces and arms. 43.What example does the writer give to show that older people can be cute? A.Older people always stay at home and watch TV. B.Older people do funny things like showing love or starting new sports. C.Older people often help young people with their problems. D.Older people usually read a lot of books in their free time. 44.What does the underlined word “innocent” in the last paragraph probably mean? A.Behaving like an adult. B.Having qualities of a child. C.Being very tall and strong. D.Never making mistakes. 45.What is the main idea of the passage? A.Babies are the cutest living things in the world. B.People should take care of babies and children. C.People of all ages can be cute in their own ways. D.Adults should learn from babies and older people. 【答案】42.B 43.B 44.B 45.C 【导语】本文分别阐述了婴儿、小孩、父母和老年人可爱的原因,说明各个年龄段的人都有自己可爱的一面。 【详解】42.细节理解题。根据“OK, so babies look cute with their fat legs and arms and their big round eyes. But it’s not only how they look that makes them cute. It’s also the things they do.”和“Babies’ mistakes are cute because they are young and helpless. We humans know our babies can’t survive without our help.”可知,人们认为婴儿可爱是因为他们有可爱的外表和无助的行为。故选B。 43.细节理解题。根据“And then there are cute old people. What makes them cute?... Older people sometimes do funny things...They show that they’re in love, they start new sports,...”可知,作者通过举例说明老年人会做些滑稽的事情,比如表达爱意或开始新的体育运动来展示老年人是可爱的。故选B。 44.词句猜测题。根据“Older people are also cute because they are a little like babies. Why did they do this? The schools hope that both students and teachers can spend more time doing outdoor activities during breaks. Before this change, most students only had 10 minutes between classes. If a class was on the third floor or above, students often found it hard to go outside. Think about it: going down stairs (楼梯) and up again takes a few minutes. By the time they got to the playground, there were only a few minutes left! So many students just stayed in the classroom or walked in the hallway (走廊). Now with 15 minutes, they can run to the playground, jump rope, or play games with friends. This change helps students meet the goal of doing at least 30 minutes of exercise each day. Cities like Beijing, Wuxi, and Zhenjiang have all started this 15-minute break. Most people think having longer (更长的) class breaks is helpful. “My child comes home happier,” said a parent. “She can play outside and relax her eyes.” Teachers also notice good changes. “Students are more focused (注意力集中) in class after a longer break,” said Mr. Li, a math teacher. “And when they play outdoors together, they learn to work as a team—like in basketball or tag games” For students, it is good for their health because they can have more time to relax. Both parents and teachers also agree with 15-minute breaks. Longer class breaks can help make students’ social skills better in activities. 56.What did most students usually do during 10-minute class breaks? 57.Which cities have 15-minute breaks now from the passage? 58.Why couldn’t students on higher floors do outdoor activities before? 59.What do many people think of a 15-minute break? 60.Do you like longer class breaks? She loved to 16 every corner of her paintings with bright colors and detailed designs. It was 17 she thought more was better. One day, she 18 an old master painter. The master showed her a beautiful landscape painting. Zhou was 19 to see half of the paper was empty—only a few birds 20 in the clear sky, and a small boat floated on the calm water. “Why did you leave so much space blank?” Zhou asked. The master smiled and said, “Look again. Does the 21 part make you feel peaceful?” Zhou Xi looked at the painting carefully. The blank space did look like a wide 22 . The birds were flying in it freely. Suddenly, she felt as if she could breathe more easily. “Life is like this painting,” the master said. “If we try to fill every moment with work, study or plans, we’ll feel 23 . Leave some ‘blank space’—time to rest and 24 so that we can enjoy quietness and let our hearts ‘breathe’. Just as the empty sky in the painting makes the flying birds look freer, empty 25 in life make us more relaxed.” Zhou nodded. She began to know that leaving room for nothing was a good 26 . So she started to paint with more “blank space” in her works. Sometimes she drew a lonely mountain with empty air around it; sometimes she left a corner of the paper empty. B The next day Marilla went to see the doctor. When she came back, she looked very tired and ill. “What did the doctor say?” asked Anne worriedly. “He says I mustn’t read or write, and I must wear glasses. Then my head won’t hurt. But if I’m not very careful, I’ll be blind (失明的) in six months!” For a minute Anne didn’t say anything. Then she said firmly, “Then you must be careful, Marilla.” “Think how bad it is to be blind! But how lucky you’ve got a free place at Redmond College! I can’t give you any money, you see. All our money’s gone, and I can’t work now. I think I’ll have to sell the farm, and go and live with Rachel Lynde!” poor Marilla cried sadly. That night Anne sat alone in her bedroom. She thought and thought for some time, and then she smiled. When she went to bed, she knew what she was going to do. The next day she told Marilla everything. “You can’t sell Green Gables. It’s our home! Just listen, I’ve planned everything. I’m not going to Redmond College, it’s too far away. I’m going to teach, in one of the village schools near here. Then I can live there during the week and come home at weekends to look after you. Diana’s father will use our fields and pay us for them, and so we’ll have some money. You see?” “Oh Anne! I’ll be all right if you’re here. But you must go to Redmond, if you want to study...” “Redmond College doesn’t matter,” laughed Anne. “I’m going to study at home in the evenings. And I’m going to be a really good teacher! His cheapest set costs about 100 yuan, so more kids can afford to play with them. “This craft is part of Chinese culture. I’m glad to help keep it alive,” Liu says. He hopes his toys will help share China’s ancient wisdom (智慧) with the world. 38.Why did Liu decide to make mortise-and-tenon building blocks? A.To show his woodworking skills. B.To make much money by selling toys. C.To help people learn more about Chinese history. D.To give people hands-on experience with the craft. 39.Which question does the 3rd paragraph mainly answer? A.How did Liu learn to make the blocks? B.When did Liu finish his first works? C.Where did Liu learn about ancient building skills? D.What problems did Liu meet while creating the models? 40.What can we learn from the last paragraph? A.Liu’s building blocks are made of wood. B.Liu’s toy sets are really expensive but popular. C.Liu created his first sets of toys after opening the shop. D.Liu hopes to spread Chinese culture through his toys. 41.What is the best title for the passage? A.Meeting great craftsmen in China B.Turning ancient buildings into blocks C.Passing on traditional Chinese skills D.Studying mortise-and-tenon structures D It’s funny, isn’t it? 第II卷(非选择题共50分) 四、词汇运用(共10小题;每小题1分,计10分) 根据句子意思,用括号中所给汉语提示或英语单词的适当形式填空。在答题卡标有题号的横线上,写出空缺处所填单词的正确形式。(每空一词) 46.Cats can keep a ________ when walking on narrow walls. Why or why not? 六、缺词填空(共10空;每空1分,计10分) 根据短文内容和首字母提示、在下文空格处填入适当的词使短文完整。在答题卡标有题号的横线上,完整地写出空缺处各单词的正确形式。(每空一词) The first person in our family to do yoga (瑜伽) was my mum. 第II卷(非选择题共50分) 四、词汇运用(共10小题;每小题1分,计10分) 根据句子意思,用括号中所给汉语提示或英语单词的适当形式填空。在答题卡标有题号的横线上,写出空缺处所填单词的正确形式。(每空一词) 46.Cats can keep a ________ when walking on narrow walls.
