How I Changed My Idea About Sports
I used to hate all sports and thought taking exercise was just teachers’ boring homework. Last summer vacation, my PE teacher asked me to take part in the school badminton club. At first I refused, but my parents advised me to have a try.
After joining the club, I found badminton full of fun. I needed to work closely with my doubles partner to win games. The more we trained together, the better our skills became. Gradually I put on less weight and felt energetic for daily study. I also made lots of new friends with the same hobby.
A survey in our club shows 75% of students play badminton once every week, 20% twice, and only 5% work out four times weekly. Most students say sports bring them energy and build team spirit. Now I realize doing sports is a nice gift for myself instead of a difficult task.

Olympic Spirit in Daily Sports
The Olympic Games include Summer and Winter Games, each held once every four years. Beijing becomes the world’s first city to host both two kinds of Olympics. The five colourful Olympic rings stand for the union of five continents, and the Olympic motto changed in 2021, adding the word “Together”.
Many students learn Olympic spirit from daily sports. They don’t need to take part in world competitions to feel the spirit. The core of Olympic spirit is never giving up and respecting competitors. When playing class basketball matches, players keep running till the final minute even if they fall behind scores. This is exactly what “never give up” means.
A recent survey finds most teenagers take sports to keep healthy and learn team spirit. Some practise kung fu alone for fun, while others play football or ping-pong with classmates. Proper exercise helps them balance study and relax tired minds after long-time lessons.
18. What special achievement does Beijing get in Olympic history?
A. It created five Olympic rings
B. It’s first city hosting both Summer & Winter Olympics
C. It changed the old Olympic motto alone
D. It holds Olympics every two years
19. What’s the core of Olympic spirit according to the text?

Find Your Own Sports to Keep Healthy
When I was Grade Seven, I was weak and easily caught cold. My doctor told me to take regular sports to improve my health. At first I tried running, but I felt tired quickly and wanted to give up after three days. Then my PE teacher suggested swimming, which works all parts of human body and is friendly to heart.
I started swimming every Sunday morning. The more I practised, the stronger my body became. Half a year later, I seldom got ill any more. Later I did a small survey on my classmates’ sports habits: half of them choose badminton as favourite sport, 20% love football, a few pick body exercise like push-ups. Most students play sports once or twice every week for lack of free time.
I finally realize: we don’t need to choose the most popular sport; picking the proper one for ourselves is the key. Doing right sports brings us healthy body and positive mood.
22. What was the writer’s health problem in Grade Seven?
23.What sport did the teacher advise the writer to take finally?
