His poems are short but powerful. Most works show care for poor ordinary people and hope for a better new China. He used sharp words to fight dark old society. Full of courage and strong feelings, his poems encourage people to stick to their dreams and keep fighting. His works still inspire readers today.
Bing Xin(1900-1999) is a respected modern Chinese writer. Her famous works include Stars and Spring Water and To Young Readers.
Her short poems focus on maternal love, children and nature. Written in soft, plain words, the poems are warm and peaceful. She uses small daily scenes to express gentle feelings. Full of kindness and hope, her poetry brings comfort to readers and is widely loved by teenagers.
Mark Twain (1835–1910) was a famous American writer. His masterpieces are The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Million Pound Note.
He mainly wrote novels instead of many poems. His occasional poems use humorous and easy language. Most laugh at bad social customs and care for ordinary kids. Full of fun and wisdom, his writings warm readers and make them think over society.
Aesop was a wise ancient Greek slave around 600 BC and later got freedom for his cleverness. His great work is Aesop’s Fables, including famous stories like The Tortoise and the Hare and The Fox and the Grapes.
Most fables use animals to stand for different people. Stories are short and easy to understand, hiding meaningful lessons about honesty, hard work and pride. Instead of telling rules directly, they teach life truths through small plots, so they remain popular worldwide for thousands of years.
