I shouted at my husband to slow down and avoid hitting them. We were coming to a stop when the car doors flew open and we sprang out of the car. A deer lay injured by the roadside, with its eyes wide open. While some deer scattered, a few remained at a safe distance, observing the scene. “I have to call the police,” my husband said. As we waited for help, a nearby resident came out of his house, angrily shouting instructions. I told him that we had already contacted the police. He stood at his doorway, arms crossed, watching us. I know he wanted to make sure we didn’t leave the scene. I suggested calling a 24-hour veterinarian clinic, but before doing so, I noticed a slight movement in the deer’s back leg. We watched as she struggled to rise. After several minutes, she managed to stand. She turned her head to look at us, and then leapt gracefully toward the forest. I raced after her until she disappeared into the forest. Tears streamed down my face, a mix of joy that she could run again and fear for her survival. I walked back to the car just as the police arrived. Our “security guard” returned to his house, satisfied that his role was complete. After listening to our account, the police praised us for remaining at the scene. They told us that deer are resilient creatures and that she would survive. The following day, we revisited the scene. The area showed no signs of blood. I discovered a piece of our car’s plastic bumper with the deer’s fur attached to it. I picked it up and took it home. Whenever I see a deer walking through the forest along our country road, I wonder if it was our deer from that summer evening. 4. What did the author and her husband do upon discovering an injured deer by the roadside? A. They drove away the other deer. B. They slowed down to avoid hurting it. C. Her husband contacted the police. D. She tried to help the deer stand up. 5. What do we know about the resident? A. He kept a close watch on the couple. B. He helped to call a local veterinarian. C. He cared about the security of the couple. D. He gave tips on how to handle the deer. 6. How did the author feel when the injured deer stood up and ran into the forest? A. Sad and disappointed. B. Surprised and confused. C. Happy but a little worried. D. Relieved but a little frustrated. 7. What did the police do about the incident? A. They fined the couple. B. They comforted the couple. C. They tried to find the injured deer. D. They investigated the scene the next day. C 5. A 6. C 7. 根据第一段中“A deer lay injured by the roadside, with its eyes wide open. While some deer scattered, a few remained at a safe distance, observing the scene. ‘I have to call the police,’ my husband said.(一只受伤的鹿躺在路边,眼睛睁得大大的。当一些鹿散开时,有几只留在安全距离外,观察着这一场景。‘我得叫警察,’我丈夫说)”和第二段中“I told him that we had already contacted the police.(我告诉他我们已经联系了警察)”可知,发现路边有只受伤的鹿时,作者和她的丈夫联系了警察。故选C项。 【5题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段中“I told him that we had already contacted the police. He stood at his doorway, arms crossed, watching us. I know he wanted to make sure we didn’t leave the scene.(我告诉他我们已经联系了警察。他站在门口,双臂交叉,看着我们。我知道他想确保我们不会离开现场)”可知,这位居民一直在密切注视着作者夫妇,确保他们不会离开现场。由此可推断出,这位居民在密切监视这对夫妇。故选A项。 根据第四段中“Tears streamed down my face, a mix of joy that she could run again and fear for her survival.(泪水顺着我的脸颊流下来,既为她能再次奔跑而感到高兴,又为她的生存感到担心)”可知,当受伤的鹿站起来跑进森林时,作者既高兴又有点担心。 根据倒数第三段中“After listening to our account, the police praised us for remaining at the scene.(听了我们的叙述后,警察表扬了我们留在现场的行为)”以及“They told us that deer are resilient creatures and that she would survive.(他们告诉我们,鹿是很有韧性的动物,她会活下来的)”可知,警察对这件事的处理是对作者夫妇进行了表扬,并告诉他们鹿会生存下来,即警察安慰了作者夫妇。故选B项。 C A student stands before a shopkeeper on a Chinese market street. The shopkeeper announces that he has many things to sell, from cakes to postcards. The student is pondering (思索) the selection. Like many people learning a new language, he must consider grammar, pronunciation and tenses before answering. When it comes to Mandarin (普通话), that is especially difficult. This scene is not actually playing out in China, but at an American university where a classroom has been equipped with a learning game, enhanced by AI. The project is the result of collaboration between IBM Research and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). The class, called AI-assisted Immersive Chinese, aims to create the kind of interactions a student could normally only get in a study-abroad program. The class is built like a video game. Students enter a classroom with a 360-degree display to face a huge screen. They can bargain with digitized shopkeepers selling fruit or order Peking duck from a waiter at a restaurant. The conversational skills these avatars (虚拟化身) have make it possible for them to respond in real time to the students, with a degree of unpredictability that makes it similar to communicating with real humans. Unlike the real world, where people may make embarrassing public mistakes in the service of learning a new language, here students can pause the scene after messing up a pronunciation and replay it again to fix mistakes as needed. “We’ve enabled the class to be like a game,” said Hui Su, the project’s lead researcher. “And like any game, there are multiple levels with growing difficulty. The students who signed up for this course are at varying levels of Mandarin proficiency. They can set the level of dialogue difficulty individually and progress at the best speed for them.” The germ of this idea appeared in 2013, when some language teachers and some game development teachers at RPI wondered if they could band together to create a language learning game. But the language interaction capability of the technology available was limited. In 2016, after RPI had teamed up with IBM, they finally had all the tech they needed to create what they wanted. It was a perfect marriage of RPI’s immersive technology and IBM’s speech recognition software. The system could have taught any language, but Su chose Mandarin. “Mandarin is one of the most difficult languages to learn,” said Su. “It’s a tonal language, with four different tones. Each character can have four different meanings when pronounced with different syllabic (音节的) emphasis.” 8. What is the student mentioned in paragraph 1 doing? A. He is travelling in China. B. He is programming a play. C. He is considering his shopping selection. D. He is learning Mandarin in a certain scene. 9. What does AI-assisted Immersive Chinese offer? A. A new communication program in China. B. Real-life Chinese interaction environment. C. Guidance on playing a Chinese video game. D. A chance of improving social interaction skills. 10. What is stressed in Hui Su’s words in paragraph 5? A. The feature of a good game. B. The wide acceptance of this project. C. That students are keen on Mandarin. D. That students can find their own study pace in the project. 11. What does the underlined word “germ” in paragraph 6 mean? A. Popularity. B. Bacterium. C. Origin. D. Development. D 9. B 10. D 11. 由文章第一段“A student stands before a shopkeeper on a Chinese market street. The shopkeeper announces that he has many things to sell, from cakes to postcards. The student is pondering (思索) the selection. Like many people learning a new language, he must consider grammar, pronunciation and tenses before answering. When it comes to Mandarin (普通话), that is especially difficult. (在中国市场的一条街上,一名学生站在店主面前。店主宣布他有很多东西要卖,从蛋糕到明信片。这个学生正在思考这个选择。像许多学习一门新语言的人一样,他在回答问题之前必须考虑语法、发音和时态。当涉及到普通话时,这尤其困难)”可知,这位学生在一个特定的场景中学习普通话。故选D。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。由文章第三段中“The class, called AI-assisted Immersive Chinese, aims to create the kind of interactions a student could normally only get in a study-abroad program. (这门名为“人工智能辅助沉浸式汉语”的课程,旨在创造学生通常只能在海外学习项目中获得的那种互动)”可知,AI-assisted Immersive Chinese课程提供了一个真实的中文互动环境。故选B。 【10题详解】 细节理解题。由文章第五段中“The students who signed up for this course are at varying levels of Mandarin proficiency. They can set the level of dialogue difficulty individually and progress at the best speed for them. (报名参加这门课程的学生普通话水平各不相同。他们可以自己设定对话难度,并以最适合自己的速度前进)”可知,苏慧的话强调了在这个项目中,学生可以根据自己的进度来学习。故选D。 【11题详解】 词句猜测题。由文章第六段中“The germ of this idea appeared in 2013, when some language teachers and some game development teachers at RPI wondered if they could band together to create a language learning game. (这个想法的germ出现在2013年,当时RPI的一些语言教师和一些游戏开发教师想知道他们是否可以联合起来创造一款语言学习游戏)”可知,这里的germ指的是这个想法的“起源,起源点”。A. C。 D The most dangerous myths are the ones we don’t see. Human exceptionalism — the belief that humans are fundamentally superior to the rest of nature — is one of those myths. This worldview is not hidden because it’s obscure — it’s hidden because it’s everywhere, taken for granted, and rarely questioned. But what struck me most is just how thoroughly this belief has infiltrated (渗透) science — an institution meant to challenge our biases, not reinforce them. Take research on self-awareness. For decades, we believed only humans and certain primate species could recognize themselves in mirrors, a supposed benchmark of self-awareness. But the mirror test is biased toward vision. Dogs experience the world primarily via scent. They pass the smell-based mirror test with ease — demonstrating self-awareness in their dominant sense. When we measure the world with a human-oriented ruler, other species inevitably come up short. Many treat human exceptionalism as a natural conclusion. But recent studies in developmental and cross-cultural psychology suggest otherwise. Beliefs in human exceptionalism aren’t an inevitably biological outcome — they instead reflect a cultural worldview. Across repeated studies, when presented with moral dilemmas — such as saving one human or multiple animals — adults overwhelmingly favored humans, even when the trade-off involved 100 dogs or pigs. Children, however, often chose to save multiple animals over one human, valuing human and nonhuman lives far more similarly. This suggests that the human-centred moral frameworks commonly held by adults are not the biological default, but emerge over time through cultural learning — particularly as children become increasingly exposed to the ways other forms of life are used and valued in our society. Research across human cultures also reveals that human exceptionalism is far from universal. Many Indigenous (土著的) and non-Western knowledge systems reject such natural hierarchies. They recognize other animals, plants, rivers, forests, and mountains as kin: sentient, agentive beings embedded in a shared moral and ecological world. Within these frameworks, the notion that humans are separate or superior simply doesn’t hold. While writing my last book, I was introduced to various alternative cosmologies (宇宙观) that reject the ideology of human exceptionalism. These worldviews model ways of living in greater balance with the rest of the natural world. Some today maintain that humans are the most evolutionarily “successful” species. Success, in this view, is measured by ecological dominance. But in reality, the most resilient ecosystems are built on interdependence. We’ve constructed our scientific models around struggle and individualism, even though life on earth is held together by relationships and co-evolution. The real insight comes from humility. Seeing ourselves clearly — not as rulers, but as participants in a larger web — is one of the most urgent scientific and moral challenges of our time. 12. The author mentions the mirror test to show that ________. A. good science requires repeated tests B. faulty scientific standards deepen bias C. human tests often favor visual senses D. cognitive tests are invalid for non-primates 13. What leads to the belief of human exceptionalism? A. Human nature. B. Knowledge system. C. Living area. D. Cultural exposure. 14. The author mainly suggests ________. A. reevaluating human-nature relationship B. exploring interdependence across species C. acknowledging the limitation of science D. rejecting the idea of evolutionary success 15. Which would be the best title for the passage? A. Are Humans a Successful Species? B. Putting Humans First Is Not Natural C. What Makes Humans Exceptional? D. Human Exceptionalism: A Global View 【答案】12. B 13. D 14. A 15. 根据第二段中“For decades, we believed only humans and certain primate species could recognize themselves in mirrors, a supposed benchmark of self-awareness. But the mirror test is biased toward vision. Dogs experience the world primarily via scent. They pass the smell-based mirror test with ease — demonstrating self-awareness in their dominant sense. When we measure the world with a human-oriented ruler, other species inevitably come up short. (几十年来,我们认为只有人类和某些灵长类动物能在镜子中认出自己,这被认为是自我意识的基准。但镜子测试偏向于视觉。狗主要通过嗅觉体验世界。它们轻松通过了基于气味的镜子测试——在它们的主导感觉中展示了自我意识。当我们用人类导向的标尺来衡量世界时,其他物种不可避免地显得不足)”可知,作者提到镜子测试是为了说明有缺陷的科学标准加深了偏见。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段中“This suggests that the human-centred moral frameworks commonly held by adults are not the biological default, but emerge over time through cultural learning — particularly as children become increasingly exposed to the ways other forms of life are used and valued in our society. 结合最后一段的呼吁“Seeing ourselves clearly — not as rulers, but as participants in a larger web (清楚地看待自己——不是作为统治者,而是作为更大网络中的参与者)”可知,作者主要建议重新评估人与自然的关系。 通读全文,结合第一段“Human exceptionalism — the belief that humans are fundamentally superior to the rest of nature — is one of those myths. (人类例外论——认为人类从根本上优于自然界的其他部分——是这些神话之一)”以及第二段“When we measure the world with a human-oriented ruler, other species inevitably come up short. (当我们用人类导向的标尺来衡量世界时,其他物种不可避免地显得不足)”和第四段中“This suggests that the human-centred moral frameworks commonly held by adults are not the biological default, but emerge over time through cultural learning (这表明,成年人普遍持有的以人类为中心的道德框架并非生物学上的默认设置,而是随着时间的推移通过文化学习而出现的)”和第五段“Research across human cultures also reveals that human exceptionalism is far from universal. (跨越人类文化的研究也表明,人类例外论远非普遍现象)”可知,文章通过多个角度论证“人类优先”并非自然的、生物性的结论,而是文化习得的结果。因此“Putting Humans First Is Not Natural(人类优先并非自然)”能概括文章内容,适合作文章标题。 How to Improve Your Reading Comprehension Skills Reading comprehension is a key skill for students, especially for senior high school students preparing for exams. ____16____ Here are some practical tips to help you improve your reading comprehension skills effectively. She should have done this many years ago. Then she signed up for the beginner class. Ever since she was a young girl climbing walls barefooted, Penny had been fascinated by circus performers. She often dreamed of standing on the platform at the top of a tent in a shining costume, waiting to let loose and swing to the opposite end while performing in the air. Now at the age of 60, Penny finally plucked up her courage to do something she had been longing to do. The class began with a flying-out trapeze practice. One by one, the students climbed up the narrow wooden ladder to the platform. They were supposed to immediately lift their legs and hang their knees over the bar, then release hands to hang upside down. The trapeze slowed down when it came back, and the trick wouldn’t work well if they were not fast enough. All this had to be done on the first swing out. Hesitate, and they would miss the grab. They just had eight seconds to complete the trick. As Penny watched the others practicing, many questions ran through her mind: Could she lift her body up high enough to catch the bar? Could she be fast enough to grab the trapeze? She could feel her heart beating wildly as the line became shorter and shorter. She doubted whether she could make it. Though she could barely reach the trapeze without stepping off the platform, she held on and waited for the instruction. Soon, it was her turn. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Penny learned more than how to fly on a trapeze that day. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Soon, it was her turn. Her hands turned sweaty and her legs trembled slightly while climbing the shaky ladder step by step. The instructor reminded her to stay focused and act quickly at the right moment. Taking a deep breath, Penny fixed her eyes on the swinging trapeze bar. Following the coach’s guide, she bent her knees to hook the bar and hung upside down successfully within the limited eight seconds. Cheers burst out from her classmates below the platform. Penny learned more than how to fly on a trapeze that day. She realized age was never a barrier to chasing childhood dreams. For decades, she put off her fancy out of fear of failure, but this experience taught her courage beats inner hesitation. From then on, she kept attending the trapeze training regularly, enjoying every moment flying in the air. She also encouraged more elderly friends to pick up their abandoned hobbies, telling them it’s never too late to fulfill what they have always desired deep inside. 词汇激活 行为类 ①爬梯:climb the ladder/ascend the ladder ②参加训练:attend the training/take part in the training 情绪类 ①欢呼:cheers burst out/cheers erupted ②害怕:fear/dread 【点睛】[高分句型1] Her hands turned sweaty and her legs trembled slightly while climbing the shaky ladder step by step. C A student stands before a shopkeeper on a Chinese market street. D The most dangerous myths are the ones we don’t see. 12. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
