Have you ever had something good happen to you and felt like shouting it from the rooftops?
Sharing positive events with others and receiving an enthusiastic response in return has been tied to
many good outcomes, including closer relationships and greater happiness. Now,a new study suggests
another benefit of sharing the good stuff:more feelings of gratitude.
The researchers started by asking 300 participants how often they tended to share good news,
and how other people in their lives generally responded to their good news. Then, six times a day for
10 days, the researchers asked participants to report on how grateful they were in the moment, how
recently they'd had a social encounter, whether they'd shared good news with that person, and how
close they felt to the person as a result.
Afterward, the researchers analysed the reports participants handed in to look for patterns. They
found those who shared positive events with others felt more grateful in the moment and closer to the
person with whom they shared the news.In addition, people with a tendency to share good news and
receive enthusiastic responses were the most grateful in the group, overall.
Sharing good news calls attention to the good things happening in your life, says Alexandra Gray,
study coauthor of Northeastern University. For example, you might tell a friend what a great time you
had over the holidays, and in recounting_what happened, you can reexperience the positive feelings
and become even more appreciative.
Getting an enthusiastic response to your good news is also important, says Gray, because it
makes you feel recognized, and cared for in a way that strengthens your relationship, and also leads to
gratitude.
Though there's still more research to be done,Gray suggests people not hold back on sharing
their good news with others,or on showing enthusiasm when others share good news with them,We
all have a role to play in helping positivity spread.
24.How did the researchers conduct the study?
A.By analysing participants'daily reports.
B.By observing participants'social encounters.
C.By studying participants'attitudes to sharing.
D.By tracking participants'interactive behaviour.
25.What does the underlined word"recounting"probably mean in Paragraph 4?
A.Repeating
B.Analysing.
C.Inquiring.
D.Recalling.
26.What can we infer about positive responses to shared good news?
A.They boost the sharer's self-awareness.
B.They serve to confirm the listener's opinions.
C.They are more influential if given by friends.
D.They make people more connected with others.
27.What is the author's purpose in writing the text?
A.To discuss the key to strong friendships.
B.To encourage people to share good news.
C.To compare ways people react to good news.
D.To analyse how gratitude improves happiness.

Researchers are working on making transparent wood using natural materials that are good for
the environment. This new material could replace plastic in things like smartphones and windows.
The problem with plastic is that it is not biodegradable, which means it doesn't disappear in nature.
Transparent wood is made by removing some parts of wood, like lignin(a substance that makes wood
hard)and hemicellulose(a type of sugar that helps hold the structure of wood together),leaving only
cellulose(the main substance in wood). After that.the wood is soaked in a mixture of egg whites and

rice juice to make it strong and semi-transparent.
Bharat Baruah,a chemistry professor at Kennesaw State University, was inspired by his hobby of
woodworking. He also thought about how buildings were made in his home state of Assam in
northeastern India, where builders used a mix of sand, sticky rice, and egg whites to make strong
materials.Baruah thought these materials could be used to make transparent wood strong without
using harmful plastic.
To make transparent wood, the team used a vacuum()and some chemicals like sodium
sulfite, sodium hydroxide, and diluted bleach. These chemicals were used to remove the lignin and
hemicellulose. Then, they soaked the wood in the egg white and rice mixture, which filled the holes in
the wood and kept it transparent. The result was a wood that is flexible, strong, and semi-transparent.
The team also tested the transparent wood in windows. They found that the wood kept a small
house cooler than glass windows did. This shows that transparent wood could be a good,energy-
saving choice for windows. The researchers also added tiny wires to make the wood able to conduct
electricity, which could be useful for things like wearable sensors or solar cells.
Although the transparent wood is not completely clear yet,the team is happy with their progress.
The materials are natural and cheap, and they hope to make the wood fully biodegradable in the future
while still keeping it strong and useful.
28.What makes transparent wood a more eco-friendly option than plastic?
A.Its ability to break down naturally,
B.Its ability to use wind energy.
C.Its strength and long-lasting nature.
D.Its lightness and low energy use.
29.What inspired Bharat Baruah to explore transparent wood?
A.Interest in plastic alternatives.
B.Desire to use glass in construction.
C.Research on eco-friendly materials.
D.Interest in woodworking and Assam's building methods.
30.How did the transparent wood perform in windows?
A.It broke easily under pressure.
B.It was completely clear like glass.
C.It was less energy-efficient than glass.
D.It helped maintain a cooler indoor temperature.
31.What do researchers aim to achieve with transparent wood?
A.To make it more flexible than plastic.
B.To make it a good material for furniture.
C.To ensure it remains strong and eco-friendly.
D.To make it resistant to water and fire damage.

Human responses to moral dilemmas can be influenced by statements written by the artificial
intelligence chatbot ChatGPT,according to a study published in Scientific.Reports.The findings
indicate that users may underestimate the extent to which their own moral judgements can be
influenced by the chatbot.
Sebastian Krigel and colleagues asked ChatGPT multiple times whether it is right to sacrifice
the life of one person in order to save the lives of five others. They found that ChatGPT wrote random
statements arguing both for and against sacrificing one life, indicating that it is not biased towards a
certain moral stance(立场).
The authors then presented 767 US participants, who were on average 39 years old, with a
dilemma whether to sacrifice one person's life to save five others. Before answering, participants read
a statement provided by ChatGPT arguing either for or against sacrificing one life to save five.
Statements were from either a moral advisor or ChatGPT.After answering, participants were asked
whether the statement they read influenced their answers.
Eighty percent of participants reported that their answers were not influenced by the statements
they read. However, the authors found that the answers participants believed they would have provided
without reading the statements were still more likely to agree with the moral stance of the statement
they did read than with the opposite stance. This indicates that participants may have underestimated
the influence of ChatGPT's statements on their own moral judgements.
The authors suggest that the potential for chatbots to influence human moral judgements
highlights the need for education to help humans better understand artificial intelligence. They
propose that future research should design chatbots that either decline to answer questions requiring a
moral judgement or answer these questions by providing multiple arguments and warnings.
32.What are ChatGPT's answers to a certain moral stance like according to Paragraph 2?
A.Inconsistent.
B.Invaluable.
C.Creative.
D.Identical.
33.What is learned about the participants?
A.They admitted the power of ChatGPT.
B.They were interviewed by a moral advisor.
C.They were affected by ChatGPT unknowingly
D.They were presented with different moral dilemmas.
34.What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A.Different findings of the study.
B.Future potentials for chatbots.
C.Major focuses of future education.
D.Solutions to the impact of chatbots.
35.What is the best title for the text?
A.ChatGPT tends to cause moral panics
B.ChatGPT is unlikely to affect our life
C.ChatGPT is making us so upset
D.ChatGPT can influence human moral judgements

In today's hyper-connected world, most of us are flooded by an ocean of messages and social
media feeds, from the moment we wake up to the instant we close our eyes. It's not just a matter of
convenience or novelty anymore-----a fixation on screens has become our habit,a necessity, and even
an addiction.36Constant engagement not only consumes our time, but also steals from us
something far more important:peace of mind.
Silence is as critical to mental health as vitamins are to physical well-being.People are particular
about what foods they put in their bodies:whether organic, vegetarian,or fat-free.37The mental
junk we absorb daily can be arguably harmful than the occasional cheeseburger or donut. The
never-ending flood of sensory input taxes the brain's limited attention resources, leaving little room
for deep thinking,reflecting,or creativity.
38 Quiet time helps the brain relax, sort through what it has taken in,and regain lost
mental energy. As American artist Leonard Korensuggests in his book Wabi-Sabi,quiet can be "an
emptiness full of possibilities",a space where creativity and clarity emerge.
Adding moments of quiet to your daily routine doesn't require dramatic changes or a very long
time.39 Better yet, research shows that brief exposure to nature, like a walk in the woods, lowers
stress levels, reduces blood pressure, and sharpens focus. These benefits occur because green spaces
and natural soundscapes provide a much-needed break from today's busy, stressful world.
Digital life crowds out silence, making simply sitting in silence almost unthinkable---yet the very
moments of stillness are what our minds really need. They let us listen to our thoughts, reflect on our
experiences, and connect with ourselves in a way that is impossible in the noise of modern life.40
A.But rarely do we ask ourselves:at what cost?
B.So,shouldn't we make laws requiring quiet time every day?
C.It can be as simple as pausing 30 seconds to watch clouds.
D.Therefore, next time you reach for your phone, resist the urge and sit in silence.
E.We check our phone 58 times a day,30%occurring during work hours.
F.However, they aren't as picky about what they are exposed to through the senses.
G.Just as our bodies need nutrition, our minds require quiet time to function well.

creatures, attracting countless visitors who were amazed at the colourful tropical()fish,
slow-moving seahorses,graceful jellyfish,and intelligent dolphins.However,the aquarium had to go
through a major restoration, and as of(.)December Ist last year,it closed its doors to the public.
The construction was expected to last until the summer, with the entire project taking more than six
months to complete.
Without visitors, the aquarium grew extremely quiet and felt like an empty space. The animals,
who were used to human interaction every day,now saw very few human faces, only the familiar
caretakers.Something strange began to happen. The dolphins, once energetic and lively, seemed tired,
lacking the usual enthusiasm they had for play,
One morning, after the caretaker Amanda threw small fish into the dolphins'tank, the dolphins
swam lazily to the tank walls and barely showed any interest in their favourite meals. They stared
blankly into the distance, their usual excitement absent."Something's not right,"Amanda whispered to
herself.

interest in food or play.Disappointed and worried,John.a senior caretaker, gathered the team."What

据第一段“Several years ago, I was addicted to personal bests (PBs). I treated every run as a constant battle against time with my GPS watch serving as my judge. Failure seemed certain unless I hit the target pace while success merely fueled the urge to map out how to go faster next time. 几年前,我痴迷于刷新个人最好成绩。我把每一次跑步都当作一场与时间的持续较量,我的 GPS 运动手表就是我的裁判。除非达到目标配速,否则我笃定自己失败了;而即便成功,也只会激起我规划下次如何跑得更快的渴望。”知,作者对待自己的跑步表现过于认真。故C项。
【25】词句猜测题。根据第二段“Then a major injury — my broken ankle — sidelined me for three months, forcing me to switch to long, unhurried walks in the nearby park — no watch, no headphones and just the rhythm of my footsteps. It came as a revelation: I noticed the golden color of dusk filtering through oak leaves, the laughter of children echoing from the playground and the smell of freshly baked bread floating from a nearby bakery.
根据第三段“Then trail running, where roots and rocks demand full attention to footing rather than speed, became my new pursuit. Initially I felt strange, like I was cheating, casting me into a mild state of disquiet with this unfamiliar pace. (后来,越野跑成了我新的追求 —— 在这项运动中,树根与岩石需要你全神贯注于脚下,而非追求速度。起初我感到很别扭,仿佛自己在投机取巧,这种陌生的节奏让我陷入了些许不安。)”可知,作者第一次尝试越野跑时感到不舒服。故选A项。
根据最后一段“That’s when it hit me:The essence of running doesn’t lie in pursuing data but in fully being in the moment, embracing surrounding delights and connecting with my body, nature and the world. That, indeed, is the greatest personal best of all.
根据第一段 “People might not realize that one basic life necessity has slipped from their control: meals. With the rise of online platforms, people enjoy the freedom to get anything quickly and at a reasonable price. However, food writer Chen Yuhui argues in her book Who Decides What to Eat that this convenience has robbed people of their autonomy over food, reflecting a greater loss of community life in a result-driven society that prioritizes efficiency.(人们或许并未意识到,生活中的一项基本必需品已经脱离了他们的掌控:那就是食物。
根据第四段 “they show lifeless food, unlike the fresh produce in markets, and this limits people's imagination about food.(它们展示的是毫无生机的食物,不像市场上的新鲜农产品那样有活力,这限制了人们对食物的想象。)”
文中倒数第二段 “Buying groceries and cooking involve a certain level of acceptance of mistakes. Yet many today seem to have little patience with them.(购买食品和烹饪涉及一定程度的对错误的接受。然而,如今很多人似乎对这些不太有耐心。)” 可知,买菜做饭需接受一定犯错可能性,但人们缺乏耐心,注重结果导向使得外卖更受欢迎,因其看似保证更好结果。这反映出人们渴望避免不确定性。A项 “他们避免不确定性的愿望” 符合文意。
【31】推理判断题。文章最后一段 “Beyond the loss of autonomy, Chen sees something deeper in food — it's a microcosm for understanding the world. “If you love tomatoes but find them plain, do you complain or invest effort to find flavorful ones? Searching for the right variety shows different problem-solving abilities, which is what I mean by food being the smallest unit for understanding the world,” she concludes.(除了失去自主权之外,陈还从食物中看到了更深层次的东西——它是一个理解世界的缩影。
根据第一段“Even if you haven’t held a conversation with Siri or Alexa, you’ve likely encountered a chatbot online. They often appear in a chat window that pops up with a friendly greeting: Thank you for visiting our site.”(即使你没有和Siri或Alexa进行过对话,你也可能在网上遇到过聊天机器人。
根据第三段“Both rely on artificial intelligence technologies like machine learning and natural language processing (NLP)”(两者都依赖于机器学习和自然语言处理(NLP)等人工智能技术。) 故选A项。
根据上文“The more a chatbot communicates with you, the more it understands and the more it learns to communicate like you and others with similar questions.”(聊天机器人和你交流得越多,它就越能理解你,也就越能学会像你和其他有类似问题的人一样交流)以及下文“then it uses those answers again.”(然后它会再次使用这些答案。)
根据最后一段“From customer service chatbots online to personal assistants in our homes, chatbots have started to enter our lives. In almost every industry, companies are using chatbots to help customers easily navigate their websites, answer simple questions and direct people to the relevant points of contact. Personal assistants like Siri and Alexa are designed to respond to a wide range of scenarios and queries, from current weather and news updates to personal calendars, music selections and random questions.”(从在线客服聊天机器人到家庭私人助理,聊天机器人已经开始进入我们的生活。
【36】根据本空前的“Flextime is a flexible hours schedule in which employees choose their own working hours, usually working within approximate limits set by the employer or by the government.”
【37】根据本空后的“For example, people can use flextime to create schedules which will allow them to go to school, handle childcare, assist relatives, and perform other tasks.”
【38】根据本段中的“First, it tends to increase employees’ satisfaction.”及“In addition, flextime can allow companies to serve clients for a great portion of the day”可知,本段介绍了弹性工作时间对雇主的两个好处——提高员工的满意度以及能让公司在一天的大部分时间里都为客户服务,故A项(雇主从弹性工作制中受益良多)符合语境。
【39】根据本空前的“Most flextime schedules include core time.”
【40】根据本空前的“Flextime can also be combined with flexplace, in which the environment is better than that of the office.”

Sunflower Wonderland — A Must-See in My Hometown
Right in the heart of my hometown lies a breathtaking sunflower garden, where thousands of golden flowers bloom together like happy dancers. Walking along the winding paths, you can feel a gentle breeze and bright petals—a perfect escape from daily rush.
What makes this place even more special is that your visit can make a real difference. Not only can you enjoy the natural beauty, but you can contribute to the development of our community. Every ticket helps support rural revitalization and improve the lives of locals.
So why not come to explore this golden paradise? Your presence means a lot to us. Together, let the sunflower bloom for a bright future.
句型1:By doing 作状语 + not only…but also…
例:By visiting this sunflower garden, you will not only enjoy nature’s beauty but also contribute directly to the revitalization of our community.
It is…that…
例:It is through your support that local families can have better lives and our rural economy can truly take off.
句型3:narrows the gap between A and B
例:Digital agriculture narrows the gap between urban and rural areas.
Paragraph 1
The next morning, Kwan took several wrapping clothes to school. At the sight of those clothes, some of his classmates exchanged puzzled looks, whispering enthusiastically with each other. Kwan's face turned radish red, his forehead feeling hot. At that moment, Miss Gibbs' loud voice sounded, "Aren't these embroidered patterns beautiful? It is Kwan who made it." Suddenly, the classroom fell silent at Miss Gibbs' words as if she had cast a spell on them. Without a word, Kwan took a needle and a thread, which worked like magic in his hands and soon an elegant blooming rose pattern appeared on the wrapping cloth. Thunderous applause broke out, all the students immediately pouring their admiration and praise upon Kwan.
Paragraph 2
As Kwan listened to his classmates, he noticed that his forehead no longer felt hot. Awkwardness and embarrassment gave way to an overwhelmingly strong sense of pride and happiness. For the rest of the class, Kwan shared some fundamental knowledge and skills with his classmates. Under the guidance of Kwan, they successfully made some embroidery patterns on their own. This experience not only brought Kwan closer to his classmates but also changed his attitude towards his secret talent. Rather than feeling embarrassed, he realized that inheriting and carrying forwards traditional craftsmanship is something to be proud of.

M: Hey, the Photography Club is organizing a field trip to the botanical park this Saturday. Would you like to join us?
W: I’d love to see the flowers, but I have a basketball match in the morning.
Text 2
W: Tom, we didn’t see you at the picnic yesterday. Hope everything’s alright.
M: I was engaged in woodcarving with my grandfather. I’m sorry. I forgot to call you.
W: That’s OK.
Text 3
W: Jason, have you finished that new historical novel? The reviews claim the storytelling is a bit dry.
M: I have. Honestly, I think it’s well-researched, interesting and appealing.
W: That’s a surprise. Most people find it hard to stay focused while reading it.
Text 4
W: I nearly lost all my personal data on my computer.
M: Really? But how?
W: An email virus infected my computer.
M: Poor you. We must be careful about what we click.
Text 5
W: Carter, I’m thinking of cycling to work on the new bike paths.
M: Well, I was worried about the traffic, but since they’re car-free, I’m all for it!
Text 6
W: Mike, I’m back to fix that old watch we talked about yesterday.
M: Ah, your grandfather’s? Let me see... It’s a tough job. The basic cleaning is $60, and the internal repair costs another $120.
W: I see. My dad really treasures it. Can I have it by this Thursday?
M: That’s a “rush job”, so there’s an extra $20.
W: No problem. I’m glad your shop is still open at this hour.
Text 7
W: Welcome to the registration desk for the City Exploration Challenge.
M: Thanks. I’m with the Red Team. I was supposed to meet my team leader at the library, but I got lost.
W: No worries. You’re at the city square, the starting point. Have you downloaded the task app?
M: Is that for GPS guidance?
W: It can do that, but we mainly use it for uploading photos of the landmarks to earn points.
M: Got it. And what’s the prize?
W: A one-year pass to the local museum.
M: Sounds great!
Text 8
M: I’m speaking with Chen Hui, a student whose graduation video in London has recently become a hit. Chen Hui, you chose to wear traditional Chinese clothing on stage. Why?
W: Many international students there wear their national dress for graduation. I wanted to show my cultural identity, but it had to be practical.
M: How did you make it?
W: You know, I love the original color! But traditional sets are often too heavy. So, I replaced the thick material with a lighter fabric and shortened the sleeves.
M: That’s probably why millions of people liked your video. What’s the most common question you get now?
W: People keep asking where they can purchase such an outfit.
M: Are you planning to start a business or apply for a project on this?
W: Not yet. I’m going to post a video next week to show people how to change and improve their own traditional clothes.
Text 9
M: Hello, Professor Smith. I’m Leo Campbell. I’m working on my entry for the School Labor Education Innovation Competition. My teacher suggested I come to you for advice.
W: Ah, yes, Leo. I’ve read your plan. What exactly is this competition about?
M: It’s a citywide student competition. The highlight of the competition is to combine traditional labor skills with modern technology. I’ve decided to design a school vegetable garden management system.
W: What inspired you?
M: Well, growing vegetables is common, but most of the projects are not so attractive. I believe many students would love to take part if the system is smart and interesting. Do you think it will work?
W: Definitely!
M: But I got stuck. Do you have any suggestions?
W: I think you’d better not make it just a garden but a station, where students learn to work, observe plants, and record growth.
M: Great!
W: There’s a small sensor device in your design. Is it just for recording temperature?
M: No, it has several uses. It collects light and soil data, and helps students decide when to water or feed the plants.
W: That’s creative.
