Which is more important in our life, the family or the dream? The film Coco (《寻梦环游记》) gives us the answer. In the film, it tells a story about 1 boy named Miguel. He dreams of 2 a musician. But none of his family supports 3 . They seem to hate music and don’t allow him 4 or play any musical instrument.
They stop Miguel from making his dream come true, and this makes Miguel 5 and he even wants to run away from his family. Then on the festival Dia de los Muertos (亡灵节), he is taken to the “Land of the Dead” 6 accident. Miguel meets his dead family members and has an adventure there. Miguel realizes his dream at the end of the film. And he also knows that family is 7 part of his life.
We also have our own dreams. Sometimes our parents don’t understand us well. As a result, we may argue with them. What should we do 8 that happens? The 9 way to solve the problem is to communicate. After all, that doesn’t mean our parents don’t love us anymore. Our parents love us 10 in the world. We should understand them at the same time.
The dream is important, so is the family. Do you agree?

My favorite book is The Old Man and the Sea by the American writer Ernest Hemingway.
In my eyes, Ernest Hemingway is probably one of 1 writers in the 20th century. When he was 19, he volunteered 2 to war because he wanted to take risks. 3 brave man he was! In Hemingway’s life, this experience was important. He has written many books about the war from then on.
Hemingway liked to write very short sentences 4 simple words. This was because he wanted his readers to feel the emotions of his stories 5 . The Old Man and the Sea is one of 6 famous books.I learned a lot from this book, especially the spirit of the main 7 , Santiago.
The Old Man and the Sea is a story about an old fisherman named Santiago who fights with 8 big fish by himself in the sea. He 9 many ups and downs. But he never gives in to anything.
The story tells us that a man can be destroyed by life, 10 still be a good and strong man. That’s why I like the book most.

Many people may see lots of rivers in their lives, but few have heard of the Stone Rivers. Actually, the Big Stone River is 1 amazing natural wonder.
The Big Stone River is a sight 2 than any other sights of Taganai National Park in Russia. 3 no running water. But when we stand near the rocky river, we can 4 hear the sound of running water.
The Big Stone River is about 6 kilometres long, 5 it is made up of many small rocky rivers. It is about 200 metres wide on average, and it is up to 700 metres wide in some 6 . Some of the rocks weigh up to 10 tons each. That makes it almost impossible for plants to grow in this rocky area.
According to scientists, 7 was the result of the movement of glaciers (冰川) about 10,000 years ago. 8 the tops of the mountains, ice covered them during that time. As the ice melted (融化), the rocks 9 down from the mountains slowly and formed the river of rocks.
Seeing the amazing river is a wonderful experience. Thousands of travelers come here 10 it every year.

Last summer, a heavy rainstorm hit our town. At first, it was just a normal rain, but soon the sky grew dark and the rain fell heavily. The river rose quickly and put many homes 1 danger. The water level kept rising by the minute.
My family decided to leave early. We set 2 for my uncle’s house on the hill before the water got too high. I looked out the window and saw trees bending(弯曲) in the strong wind. I watched the rising water with 3 . My mom held my hand and told me everything would be okay. But I kept wondering 4 we could make it there safely. Finally, we saw the hill in the distance. We all felt a little relaxed.
As soon as we arrived, it started raining harder and 5 . The wind also grew much stronger. Raindrops hit the windows like small stones. In 6 moment, the streets downstairs were all flooded. Watching the rising water from the window, my dad told us it 7 him of a terrible storm years ago. He shared how people then helped each other in the heavy rain. The rain 8 to fall heavily throughout the night. We couldn’t sleep well, but we felt thankful to be safe. 9 happened outside, at least we were together. The next morning, the rain finally stopped. We got down to helping our neighbors clean up their homes. As we worked, my mom said to me, “In times like this, we should stick 10 something meaningful to help others.” Everyone worked together. We were tired but thankful to be safe.

Dear Lucy,
How are you feeling today? Do you still feel sad or 1 about the leg you lost in that terrible earthquake? And does the wound hurt you when the weather becomes cold or rainy? I know life was hard for you 2 these days, but please do not lose hope.
Do you remember what you were doing when the ground suddenly began to shake? I can still see that afternoon clearly. At that moment, I 3 in the classroom with my classmates, and then everything fell down in just a few seconds. That moment changed us forever.
I am writing to tell you that hope always remains. Even now, eighteen years later, my leg still hurts sometimes, but I have learned to use a new leg — a prosthesis (假肢). At first, walking with it was 4 difficult, and I often cried at night. 5 better, I practised walking every day and tried my best to overcome the pain. I fell down and I stood up, over and over again... Guess what? I have no trouble 6 it now. I can even run with it! Not very fast, 7 I run really happily. I am so proud of 8 . I also joined a marathon club, and my teammates always encourage me. Their kindness gives me great power.
So please take a deep breath and keep going. I am totally 9 new me now. And you are much 10 than you think. Life can still be beautiful even after a great loss.
And one more thing… Do you know who I am? Kid, actually, I am you — you eighteen years from now. When I say “I”, I mean “We”. We survived the earthquake, we are still alive, still running, and still full of hope.
Your future self

Have you visited any wonders? Now let me tell you 1 about Niagara Falls. It is one of the 2 of the natural world. It’s between Canada and the United States. The falls are on 3 river. Niagara Falls has two special parts. Among them, the tallest is the Horseshoe Falls on the Canadian side. The falls are colourful 5 different lights are lit up at night. Many people say they are even 6 in winter than in other seasons, because the ground is covered with snow and water turns into ice.
Most visitors go as close to the falls as they 7 , and watch the water rush down with a loud sound. Niagara Falls is different 8 the waterfalls in mountains. Mountain waterfalls are often thin streams of water that seem to fly down the mountainside.

Going to Mount Huangshan makes me think of the popular song “The Long and Winding Road”. The 1 part of the trip is the wonderful scenery. When you stand 2 the top of the mountain, you can see the rolling sea of clouds. And the scenery 3 you how small we humans are.
The hot spring at the foot of 4 mountain is wonderful. You shouldn’t miss it after the climb. It 5 make you feel relaxed and energetic! The spring is also very special. The colder the temperature gets, the hotter the spring water is! It’s strange, isn’t it? But nature is just like that—it always surprises 6 .
Then there 7 endless stone steps on the way up. How hard it was for people 8 them long ago! I can’t imagine! The steps are the only man-made thing on the mountain, 9 they make the trip more interesting. They also give you a place to sit and rest your legs.
As the song says, this long and winding road will never disappear. It will always stay in all 10 memories. If you come to China, Mount Huangshan is a place you must visit!
