B A few years ago, we bought a Lego Taj Mahal (泰姬陵) for my dad’s birthday, hoping to combine his love for architecture with family time. Each evening, my dad and I gathered around the large dining table to build the model. We faced thousands of tiny white pieces, each packaged with precision in numbered plastic bags, accompanied by a thick instruction book. The evenings passed quickly, and the building rose before our eyes. We could see our efforts producing good results, and as we turned to the boring task of ordering the colored bricks on the building’s floor, our conversation too took a turn. We were amazed by how complex the model was and its instruction book. We realized the book itself was a work of art, beautiful, but also surprisingly detailed and clear. It provided us with the comfort of certainty. We knew if we followed all the instructions, we would end up with a model that looked exactly like the picture on the box. If we made a mistake, all we had to do was to repeat our steps and start again. Life, however, does not fit together so neatly and rarely provides us with such clear instructions. We talked over our respective lives, decisions made, and actions and choices never taken. Dad reflected on a life well lived, and I, in my mid-thirties, on the uncertain path that lay ahead. Here, we were the expert architects doing the assembling, but out in the world, we were the ones being assembled. We think we’re in control, but our choices are shaped by forces beyond our control. In the face of uncertainty, we have to proceed, trusting both in the process and the end result. Sometimes, on the days I return home, I go to the spare room to look at the completed Lego model, which brings forth a sense of happiness and comfort. It reminds me that life is built slowly, with mistakes, an element of uncertainty and no instruction book. It shows that consideration, warmth and faith will result in a life well lived. Life itself is not about what we materially create or leave behind, but rather how we lived it. 4. Which can best describe the author’s experience of building the Lego model? A. Simple and uninteresting. B. Imaginative and enjoyable. C. Complicated and rewarding. D. Challenging and discouraging. 5. What does the author learn from assembling the Lego model? A. Life requires to be planned carefully. B. Life doesn’t come with clear guidance. C. Mistakes in life can always be corrected. D. Life’s uncertainty makes it more exciting. 6. What can be inferred from the father-son Lego experience? A. The building process was always smooth and easy. B. Following instructions totally brings perfect results. C. Colored bricks are the most difficult part to handle. D. Uncertainties can bring unexpected warm feelings. 7. Which of the following can be the best title for the text? A. Lego: A Symbol of Family Bond B. Building with Lego: Lessons for Life C. The Complexity of Architectural Models D. Life: A Journey Without Instructions C Have you ever wondered what sets successful people apart? Could it be the way they use their minds? Dr. Joseph Murphy believes the secret lies in the subconscious mind (潜意识). His book, The Power of Your Subconscious Mind, shows how this hidden force can help you reach your full potential and change your life. The book is structured in an easy-to-read format, with short, clear chapters that explain complex ideas in everyday language. Murphy, who studied religion, philosophy, and psychology, uses simple words to describe how the subconscious works. Each chapter covers a different topic — like picturing goals, saying positive things, or improving health — and gives practical steps with real-life examples. Murphy begins by drawing a clear distinction between the two parts of the brain: the conscious and the subconscious. Murphy then argues that the subconscious mind is an unlimited source of creativity that influences our habits and health, and by uniting mentally and emotionally with the good you wish to embody (体现), the creative power of your subconscious will respond accordingly. However, the book’s real strength is its practical application. Murphy provides case studies and examples that demonstrate how real people have used these principles to achieve personal success. Whether it’s financial stability, career advancement, or personal relationships, the techniques can be applied universally. However, the book isn’t perfect. Murphy’s friendly style and wide knowledge — from religion to science — make it interesting, but some ideas, like the law of attraction, don’t have strong evidence. This might bother readers who want facts. Even so, the practical tips stand out. Whether you want a better job, health, or relationships, The Power of Your Subconscious Mind can give you tools to shape your life with your thoughts — a powerful idea worth trying. 8. What characterizes Murphy’s writing style? A. Long chapters on theories. B. Big ideas in simple language. C. Practical steps without examples. D. Complex theories in academic language. 9. What is the author’s attitude towards the view of subconscious mind in the book? A. Skeptical throughout the text. B. Firmly disapproving. C. Generally appreciative objectively. D. Totally unconcerned. 10. Who might be the least interested in the book? A. Evidence-driven readers. B. Positive mindset seekers. C. Success strategy learners. D. Personal growth enthusiasts. 11. What is the author’s main purpose of writing the text? A. To present a self-help book. B. To list methods for success. C. To encourage optimistic thinking. D. To explain subconscious mechanisms. D Scientists have given artificial intelligence (AI) the capacity to “feel” surfaces for the first time, opening up a new dimension for applying the technology in the real world. Tapping into quantum (量子) science, the researchers combined a scanning laser (激光) with a new AI model trained to distinguish different surfaces from laser images. The system sends very brief light signals onto a surface and analyses the reflected light, which contains grain-like noise, a type of imperfection that emerges in imagery. This is normally considered detrimental to imaging, but in this case the researchers used AI to interpret them, allowing the system to identify the surface structure. “This is a marriage of AI and quantum,” said Daniel Tafone of New Jersey’s Stevens Institute of Technology. The team tested 31 types of industrial sandpaper with roughness ranging from 1 to 100 micro metres, with the roughest about the width of a human hair. They then set up the system, which used a laser that sent out extremely short light bursts — one trillion (兆) of these bursts equal one second. The light signals passed through sending and receiving units, hit the sandpaper, and bounced back for AI analysis. The reflected light came from different points on the surface and was counted by a highly sensitive light detector. The system achieved an average error of roughly 8 micro metres — but this improved to just 4 micro metres after the AI worked with multiple samples. This is roughly in line with the accuracy of surface-measuring devices currently in use. “Interestingly, our system performed best on the finest surfaces, such as diamond polishing film,” Tafone said. These materials are often used on sand paper for specific applications. The scientists said that the new method could serve multiple purposes, including in medical contexts to detect the thickness of moles (痣) that may be the indicator of skin cancer. “Tiny differences in mole roughness, too small to see with the human eye but measurable with our proposed quantum system, could distinguish between those conditions,” said Yuping Huang, director of the Stevens’ Centrefor Quantum Science and Engineering. “Quantum interactions provide a wealth of information; using AI to quickly understand and process it is the next logical step.” 12. What does the underlined word “detrimental” in Paragraph 2 mean? A. Identical. B. Crucial. C. Relevant. D. Damaging. 13. What can we learn about the system? A. It had highly improved accuracy. B. It greatly enhanced AI’s sensitivity. C. It worked hard on polishing surfaces. D. It analysed sandpaper more efficiently. 14. What does the author try to illustrate by mentioning moles in Paragraph 4? A. The underlying cause of skin cancer. B. The visual limitation of the human eye. C. The high effectiveness of medical assistance. D. The potential application of the new method. 15. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Quantum Unlocks Massive Possibilities in Medicine B. Quantum-Powered AI Feels and Measures Surfaces C. New Laser Technology Enhances Sandpaper Quality D. AI-Driven Technology Transforms the Imaging Field 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 In an age of instant pleasure, constant notifications, and nonstop productivity pressure, slow living has emerged as a quiet resistance. ____16____ It is an intentional choice to prioritize presence, quality, and meaning over speed and quantity. The story began when tornadoes (龙卷风) hit the area of Marietta, Oklahoma, at the end of April Wayne Baker, a husband and father who lives in the area, noticed an odd stillness in the air. He didn’t hesitate, gathering his wife, Lindy, and their son, nine-year-old Branson, jumping in their truck and heading for a neighbor’s storm shelter. But on the way there, the tornado caught up with them with howling winds and spinning clouds. In a second, a massive tree was lifted from the earth and hurled (猛扔) towards their truck, destroying the vehicle like a fragile toy. Life: A Journey Without Instructions 【答案】4. C 5. B 6. D 7. 根据第四段的句子“Life, however, does not fit together so neatly and rarely provides us with such clear instructions. (面对不确定性,我们必须继续前行,相信过程和最终结果)”以及最后一段“Sometimes, on the days I return home, I go to the spare room to look at the completed Lego model, which brings forth a sense of happiness and comfort. It reminds me that life is built slowly, with mistakes, an element of uncertainty and no instruction book. It shows that consideration, warmth and faith will result in a life well lived. Life itself is not about what we materially create or leave behind, but rather how we lived it. B项“Building with Lego: Lessons for Life (用乐高搭建:人生一课)”最能概括文章由具体经历到人生哲理升华的主旨。 C Have you ever wondered what sets successful people apart? 【答案】8. B 9. C 10. A 11. AI-Driven Technology Transforms the Imaging Field 【答案】12. D 13. A 14. D 15. Wayne and Lindy were badly injured and trapped Wayne’s back, neck and arm were broken, and he also lost part of a finger. Lindy’s back, neck, jaw, ribs (肋骨) and right hand were broken. She had gone through the windshield (挡风玻璃) and remained halfway in the vehicle and halfway out. It was pretty horrible. Fortunately, young Branson was not injured in the backseat. The wind was still howling, and broken pieces flew through the air like deadly missiles. With his parents trapped and moaning in pain, Branson knew he had to act fast. Taking a deep breath, he started running toward the nearest house. His legs felt weak, and the roar of the tornado seemed to follow him, but he didn’t stop. He remembered the neighbor’s storm shelter was nearby, and he ran as fast as he could, screaming for help. Finally, he reached the door and pounded on it with all his strength. The door opened and a shocked couple asked what happened. When Branson explained the situation, they immediately sprang into action. The neighbors grabbed a first-aid kit and rushed out, calling 911 on the way. Together, they hurried to the destroyed truck, where Wayne and Lindy were still trapped. The man forced the door open and the woman helped to wrap the wounds. Branson held his mother’s hand, whispering, “You’re going to be okay.” Within minutes, emergency services arrived. In time, his parents were rushed to the hospital and eventually made a full recovery. Though he was only nine years old, Branson had shown bravery and quick thinking beyond his years, proving that heroes can come in any size. 词汇激活 行为类 ①记得:remember/recall ②发生:happen/take place ③低语:whisper/murmur ④帮助:help/assist 情绪类 ①震惊的:shocked/stunned ②痛苦地:in pain/painfully 【点睛】[高分句型1] Together, they hurried to the destroyed truck, where Wayne and Lindy were still trapped.(运用了where引导非限制性定语从句) [高分句型2] Though he was only nine years old, Branson had shown bravery and quick thinking beyond his years, proving that heroes can come in any size.(运用了though引导让步状语从句,现在分词作状语,that引导宾语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
