写作一
Dear fellow students,
Nowadays, it is common that many students suffer from eye strain, They overuse their eyes due to long hours of studying or using digital devices. Last term, I often stayed up late using my tablet to finish homework, which left me with severe eye strain.
This problem not only damages our eyesight but also lowers our concentration in class. Worse still, it could even lead to potential long-term eye conditions.
To address this, we should take regular breaks during study, such as following the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds and keep doing eye exercises daily. Outdoor activities also count. Let’s work together to protect our eyes for a healthier campus life.
Yours,
Li Hua
写作二:
Then I walked towards the woman with hope. When I was close to her, she turned back and was shocked to see me. I apologized and told her our problem. “Can you give us some directions? That is my friend,” I added, pointing to Doris, who was still under the tree. The woman nodded friendly, wearing a gentle smile. She seemed to relax as she inspected us and asked where we were trying to go. And then she attempted to show us directions in broken English.
I found her explanation of directions only confused us, however hard she tried. Then, the woman said, “Get in my car and I’ll take you back.” “That’s really nice of you, but we don’t want to get your seats wet,” we responded, pointing to our wet clothes and bags. But she insisted. We were so tired that we finally went inside, hoping to get back as soon as possible. To our excitement, we soon reached our hotel. When we offered her some money in reward for her kindness, she just refused to take and wished us a good night. Waving goodbye to her, we witnessed her disappearing in the darkness. Although we were cold, our hearts were filled with warmth.

During our final part of the term studying theater and performance at the University of Leeds, I found myself standing outside Berkeley Court care home on a rainy afternoon with three course mates and an underdeveloped idea. We planned to do sensory stimulation workshops with the residents living with dementia (痴呆), in an attempt to inspire memory and social engagement.
I had a CD player under my arm because we had decided to play music at the end of the program. If the average age of the residents was about 80, I thought they probably would have been listening to Frank Sinatra in their late 20s. We went with My Way because we all recognized it was energetic enough.
Some residents were almost nonverbal, some were clearly experiencing hallucinations (幻觉), some were happy to see us and some were not. Sheepishly putting the song lyrics on each table “just in case” anyone fancied singing along, I remember thinking that we had probably got this very wrong. I moved quietly to the back of the room and hesitantly pressed play.
It was as if a spell had been cast. Nearly everyone in the room stood up and sang what seemed like every word. The song sheets remained untouched. I was deeply moved. Looking to either side of me, I saw I wasn’t the only one with tears in my eyes. Many of the residents were now communicating with far greater clarity than they had been seconds before. It felt, and looked, like magic.
Now I am an actor. Creating work for, or about, people living with dementia has formed a fixed part of my career over the past decade. That moment at Berkeley Court fundamentally changed my life.
24. Why did the author come to Berkeley Court care home?
A. To help with medical research.
B. To show his regard for senior residents.
C. To participate in a musical performance.
D. To provide dementia intervention and care.
25. What did the author consider when choosing the music?
A. The release date. B. The easy lyrics.
C. The player’s quality. D. The touching beat.
26. How did the author feel before playing the song?
A. Doubtful. B. Ashamed.
C. Excited. D. Confident.
27. What can we know about the author’s moment at Berkeley Court?
A. It had little significant effect on the author’s career.
B. It made the author decide to become a music teacher.
C. It inspired the author to focus on creating work related to dementia.
D. It convinced the author to abandon the idea of working with the elderly.
C
In many parts of the world, ancient villages that have stood for centuries are at risk of disappearing, destroyed by urbanization, climate change, and neglect. These villages are more than just old buildings — they are living museums of cultural heritage, holding the stories, traditions, and way of life of generations of people.
In southern China, the village of Xidi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its traditional Huizhou architecture, has faced growing threats in recent years. Many young people have left the village to work in cities, leaving only elderly residents behind. Without proper maintenance, many of the village’s 1,000-year-old wooden houses have begun to rot, and some have collapsed. “These houses are not just structures,” says local historian Li Wei, “They are the soul of our village. If we lose them, we lose our identity.”
To save Xidi, local authorities and conservationists have launched a multi-year protection project. The project includes restoring damaged buildings, training local residents in traditional construction techniques, and creating eco-tourism programs that allow visitors to experience the village’s culture without harming it. The key to the project, according to Li, is “revitalization, not just restoration.” “We don’t want to turn the village into a museum for tourists,” Li explains. “We want to bring young people back, so the village can live and grow again.”
The word “revitalization” is often used in heritage conservation, but it carries a deeper meaning here. It means breathing new life into old spaces, combining tradition with modernity, and ensuring that cultural heritage is not just preserved, but passed on to future generations. For villages like Xidi, the fight to survive is a fight to keep their culture alive.
28. What does the underlined word “revitalization” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Complete destruction. B. Bringing new life.
C. Simple restoration. D. Tourist development.
29. What does the word “soul” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A. The cultural identity of the village.
B. The local history of Huizhou architecture.
C. The ancient wooden houses of Xidi.
D. The elderly residents of the village.
30. Why have many ancient villages like Xidi been at risk?
A. They are not popular with tourists.
B. Young people have left and buildings are neglected.
C. Local authorities have destroyed them for urbanization.
D. They lack traditional construction techniques.
31. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. The history of ancient Chinese villages.
B. The threats to cultural heritage from climate change.
C. The efforts to protect and revitalize ancient cultural villages.
D. The importance of eco-tourism in heritage conservation.
D
Kids who volunteer aren’t just helping their community. They might also be helping themselves. That’s according to a new research published in JAMA Network Open, in May.
Kids who participated in community service were 34% more likely to be in very good physical health than those who didn’t participate, the study found. And those who volunteered were 66% more likely to be considered doing well in general. Kids aged 12 and older who volunteered were 25% less likely to have anxiety than peers who didn’t. The findings come from survey data provided by the parents of some 50,000 kids in the United States aged 6 to 17. About half of those parents reported that their kids did volunteer work.
Studies like this have limitations. Parents answered questions about their kids’ health and community-service activity. But a parent might not know if their child experiences anxiety or considers themselves to be doing well in general. This type of data also can’t prove cause and effect. It can only uncover connections. So it’s not possible to say for sure that volunteering leads to better mental and physical health. It could be that people in good health are more likely to have the energy or desire to volunteer.
But the data comes at an important time for youth mental health. In recent years, rates of depression and anxiety have risen among young people. More than 40% of high school students reported experiencing feelings of sadness or hopelessness. So there’s a clear need for accessible and effective mental health resources. Giving back to the community may be one such resource. And this study isn’t the only one to reach that conclusion. Previous research has also found links between volunteering and well-being among adults. Serving the community seems to help people feel a sense of purpose. And it makes them feel connected to those around them. Generosity has also been shown to boost happiness and improve physical health. It might be a practice worth doing.
32. What’s a limitation of the study mentioned in the passage?
A. Surveyed parents’ lack of knowledge. B. The single research method.
C. Narrow geographical locations. D. Narrow study subjects.
33. What can we learn from the third paragraph?
A. Healthy people are less likely to volunteer.
B. Volunteering surely leads to better mental and physical health.
C. Parents know their kids’ mental and physical health very well.
D. There is a relationship between health and community-service activity.
34. What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A. There are various mental health resources.
B. People of all ages will serve the community.
C. Serving the community will benefit mental health.
D. High school students are suffering mental health problems.
35. Which proverb best matches the passage?
A. He laughs best who laughs last.
B. The rose is in her hand, the flavor in mine.
C. The longest journey begins with the first step.
D. Treat other people as you hope they will treat you.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
How green are you? Do you know how to be green?
We all need a healthy environment, but we produce waste every day and it does harm to our environment. Though we are young, we can still do something to help. In fact, even the simplest everyday activities can make a real difference to the environment. 36
Reduce
Reduce means “use less”. 37 This saves money and reduces pollution and waste going into the environment. Before we buy something new, think whether it’s really necessary or maybe the old one will be just as good. When we buy things, choose local products if possible, and try not to buy too many things from abroad.
Reuse
Reuse means “use again”. Use things for as long as possible. When we buy things, make sure that they last a long time. We should look after them so that they will last, and we should repair them if we can instead of throwing them away and buying new ones. 38 It’s better to use a china (瓷器) cup and a lunch box because you can use them again.

It was our first time exploring a foreign country on our own, without a tour guide leading the way. My friend Doris and I had a week-long tour there and believed we could explore this town alone then. After breakfast, we confidently started the trip. After a full day of exciting exploration, the sky turned from clear blue to gray, with dark clouds gathering.
As we walked along the ancient street to our hotel, raindrops began falling. Everyone around us took cover. “Should we take a taxi?” I asked aloud, the rain being so loud that I had to raise my voice. “It’s only a ten-minute walk, and let’s go much faster,” Doris shouted back.
As the rain and wind increased, we quickened our pace. The ancient street was soon covered with deep water that quickly made our shoes totally wet. Suddenly, the big thunder sounded! Dusk had turned into total darkness, which was only interrupted by the sudden lightning from the sky. Finally, we realized we had been walking for a much longer time than it should have taken us to reach the hotel. We had taken a wrong turn somewhere. We were lost! What’s worse, both of our cell phones were powered off, so we couldn’t call for help, and the street was empty.
Shocked, we headed back down the street, wishing to find the right direction. It was still raining cats and dogs. Our clothes and bags were completely wet. Later looking out into the darkness through the shrubs (灌木) along the street, we realized we had come to a residential neighborhood. “Let’s just wait for a minute,” Doris said.
As we stood under a tree, some headlights appeared. A car pulled up just about a few meters away by the street. Soon, a woman got out of the car.
