Students at a school in Shanghai, with the help of their science teacher, created a community garden that grows vegetables using recycled water. In just a few months, the garden has become a symbol of environmental action and has inspired other schools in the city to start similar projects.
The garden uses a special system that collects rainwater and recycles water from the school’s bathrooms. This water is then used to water the vegetables. “We wanted to show that even small actions can make a big difference,” said 15-year-old Li Mei, who led the project. “We also wanted to teach people about the importance of saving water.”
Ms. Wang, who teaches science at the school, thought her students just might have the creativity needed to solve real-world problems. “To see young people taking action on environmental issues is really inspiring,” she says.
Ms. Wang, along with environmental scientist Dr. Zhang, worked with students on a project they called “Green Roots”. The project had two parts—one was the community garden, and the other was creating educational posters about water conservation. The two adults worked with students from seventh to ninth grade. They had the same basic question for all the students: “What can you do to help protect the environment?”
Students working on the garden designed the water recycling system themselves. When they were ready, they built the garden with the help of volunteers from the community. Later, they started giving tours of the garden to teach other students and local residents about water conservation.
The garden now grows over 20 different kinds of vegetables, including tomatoes, cucumbers, and lettuce. The students donate most of the vegetables to a local food bank that helps poor families.
Other students took part in making educational posters, which were hung up around the school and the community. Many posters had tips on how to save water at home, such as taking shorter showers and turning off the tap while brushing your teeth.
24.Why did the students create the community garden?
A.To make money for their school. B.To teach people about the importance of saving water.
C.To practice their gardening skills. D.To get good grades in science class.
25.What can we know about the project from the passage?
A.It included a community garden and educational posters.
B.It asked students to give away all their vegetables to the food bank.
C.It was named "Green Roots" by environmental scientist Dr. Zhang.
D.It was only for students who were good at science.
26.Which words best describe Ms. Wang and her students?
A.Creative and responsible. B.Organized and curious.
C.Honest and hard-working. D.Humorous and generous.

(White Fang was taken away from the wild after a hard fight. He was passed from one cruel owner to another, learning only fear and being hurt. Finally, he came to Scott and Matt’s small cabin. )
“It’s hopeless,” Scott said. He sat outside his cabin and watched White Fang, who was pulling his chain, snarling angrily. “He is a wolf. We can’t tame (驯服) him,” Scott added.
“Someone has tamed him,” replied Matt. “Look at those marks on his chest.” He advised Scott to be patient and give White Fang a chance and set him free. Matt picked up a club (棍棒) and went over to White Fang. He opened the chain round White Fang’s neck. The dog couldn’t believe he was free.
“Poor thing,” said Scott. “He needs human kindness.” Scott went into the cabin and returned with some meat. He threw it to White Fang.
However, another dog ran to the meat and tried to take it, White Fang attacked the dog and knocked it down. Matt ran in and started to kick White Fang. Again White Fang attacked Matt and bit his leg.

“Look, Scott,” Matt said, “that dog had a terrible time before. You can’t expect him to be normal again at once. Give him some time.”
White Fang watched Scott come over to him, and snarled. He was waiting for his punishment.
But Scott sat down a few meters away and talked to White Fang in a calm, gentle way. He threw meat to the dog many times. Little by little, White Fang became less doubtful.
Scott slowly walked closer and touched White Fang’s head. Instead of hitting him, Scott patted and touched him gently. White Fang felt both fear and warmth. It was the start of a new life for him.

A.Because White Fang was still young. B.Because White Fang listened to him.

Classical Chinese is now an important c 47 for every middle school student. Learning it helps us understand h 48 ancient Chinese spoke and thought. I would like to recommend a book for students who are deeply i 49 in Classical Chinese.
Ancient Chinese is a famous series with 4 books and 14 units. Each unit has three parts: anthology (选集), common words, and archaic Chinese (古汉语). Anthology p 50 many famous articles from The Analects, Stratagems of the Warring States, Zuo Tradition and The Works of Mencius. These works have made great contributions to Chinese literary history. After reading the anthology, you will learn how to tell the d 51 between ancient and modern words. For example, in spoken language, we say “你吃饭了吗?”, b 52 in Classical Chinese, it becomes “饭否?”, Archaic Chinese tells the background of the anthology, helping you better understand the stories.
These parts are c 53 connected. If you only read the anthology, you will only understand what the teacher e 54 . If you only study common words but don’t read the anthology, you will only get some knowledge about words. W 55 learning archaic Chinese, you cannot truly master classical Chinese as a whole. So, you must study all three parts together. If you enjoy Classical Chinese, we hope this book will help deepen your interest in Classical Chinese, history, and literature.

Every time a new year rolls around, people set out to live a better life. They promise themselves that they will lose weight, find a new job or maybe even take that vacation they’ve always talked about. But why do we make these promises to ourselves and where did this tradition come from? It started with the ancient Babylonians.
Around 4,000 years ago in Babylon, the earliest recorded celebration honoring the coming of a new year was held. The calendar was different back then. The Babylonians started the new year in late March during the first new moon after the spring equinox (春分). The events were known as the Akitu festival (阿基图庆典), which lasted 11 days. They celebrated the rebirth of the sun god. Babylonians made promises in order to make all of their gods happy. They felt this would help them start the new year with better luck. This is how the tradition started.
New Year’s resolutions (决心) continued on with the Romans. When the early Roman calendar no longer went well with Earth’s revolution (旋转) around the sun, Caesar decided to make a change. He talked to the best astronomers (天文学家) and mathematicians (数学家) of his time and introduced the Julian calendar, which is similar to our Gregorian calendar. Caesar set January 1 as the first day of the year to honor Janus, the god of new beginnings. The Romans celebrated the New Year by offering animals to Janus in a special way.
To this day, the traditions of the ancient Babylonians and Romans continue on around the world. However, not many people keep the resolutions they make. Google launched a Resolution Map in 2013 to see how many people keep their resolutions. Only eight percent of people were successful in achieving them.
However, with 4,000 years worth of history telling us so, this tradition is destined to (注定) live on. That statistic (数字) is hard to argue with.

【答案】24.B 25.A 26.A
【解析】这篇短文讲述了上海一所学校的学生在老师帮助下,通过“Green Roots”项目打造了利用回收水灌溉的社区菜园,并制作节水海报,既践行环保、帮助他人,也带动了更多学校和社区参与环保行动。
24.根据文章第二段中Li Mei所说的话“We also wanted to teach people about the importance of saving water.”可知,学生创建社区花园的目的是为了宣传节约用水的重要性。
25.根据文章第四段第二句“The project had two parts—one was the community garden, and the other was creating educational posters about water conservation.”

“I told you it was hopeless,” said Scott, taking out his gun. He was angry and wanted to shoot at the wild dog.
—— Adapted from White Fang

Hello, everyone!
It is a great honor to have this opportunity to share my speech with all of you. Today my topic is “True friendship”. Honesty keeps friendship shining; without it, friendship fades.
Last term, my best friend Lily spent weeks getting ready for a singing competition. I noticed her mistakes but I was afraid to tell her. Unsurprisingly, she didn’t perform well. I finally apologized and told her the truth. To my surprise, she wasn’t angry. Instead, she thanked me and said, “I’d rather hear your honest advice than empty praise, because you’re my friend.”
This experience taught me that true friendship requires honesty.
Thank you for your attention!
