C. Encouraging high school students to learn nanyin.
C 19. A 20. A
W: Today, I’ll take you on a musical voyage through time with Nanyin. It is known as a “living fossil” of music in Chinese history. It dates back to the Han Dynasty after people from ancient China’s Central Plains region brought their music to Quanzhou. Over time, it combined with the local music. The performance of Nanyin is usually given by a group of five musicians. The singer, sitting in the middle, plays the wooden clapper to keep the beat. On the left, two musicians play the bamboo flute “dongxiao” and the “Erxian”. On the right, two musicians play the “Pipa” and the “Sanxian”. The pairing of Dongxiao with Erxian and Pipa with Sanxian creates a rich, stereo music show. The unique singing style traditionally performed in the southern Fujian dialect depicts a story with each song. Many songs are from traditional operas like The Story of the Pipa, a Kunqu Opera that tells the love story between scholar Cai Bojie and his wife ZhaoWuniang. In 2009, Nanyin was listed as intangible cultural heritage of humanity by UNESCO. To ensure this heritage lives on, schools in Quanzhou have introduced nanyin courses for kindergarten and primary school students. Thank you for joining me today.

B
My teacher uses a cane (拐杖)now but often leaves it aside when visiting. “Don’t treat me like an old man,” he says, as softly as 60 years ago.
Back in 1965, he — my composition teacher, Mr. Youngs — was a novelty. The summer before his senior year of college, he rode a motor scooter across the country, sleeping under the stars, befriending strangers at campgrounds, and recording his thoughts in a notebook.
I understood, from the snippets (片段)Mr. Youngs shared with us, that his trip had been both an adventure and a journey of self-discovery. I realized I could have a life different from the path laid out by private schools and dancing lessons. I could leave the East Coast, for example, and I did. I could embrace my identity as a writer, and I did.
Mr. Youngs’ influence on us extended to reading as well as writing. Under his instruction, we moved from stories about magic and talking animals to books with human characters our own age. He read aloud to us from Jack Schaefer’s 1949 novel Shane. Bob, the story’s narrator, observed the adult world and felt adult emotions just as we did — without fully comprehending them. Through such stories, we learned that fiction could help us understand life.
This year, Mr. Youngs established a writing scholarship in his name and mine at Dedham Country Day School. Together, we met with students to discuss how education leads to future careers. Remarkably, Mr. Youngs still kept some of our 1965 compositions, as well as some of his lesson plans about similes, personification, and the use of vivid words — all lessons that have been threaded through my writing ever since. We also spoke about another shared concern for the natural world. I invited the students to commit to one small act to help reduce climate change. One wrote, “I will write a book from the perspective of animals threatened by climate change. I hope it will change hearts.”
He may no longer ride a motor scooter, but my teacher is still changing lives. And now, because of him, so am I.
24. What made Mr. Youngs a “novelty” ?
A. Walking with the aid of a cane. B. Sharing his thoughts online.
C. Teaching motor scooter riding. D. Having a cross-country trip.
25. How did Mr. Youngs influence the author?
A. He taught her to write adventure stories.
B. He inspired her to choose a different life path.
C. He encouraged her to read magic animal tales.
D. He advised her to value private school education.
26. What did the author and Mr. Youngs do together recently?
A. Raising students’ eco-awareness.
B. Collecting students’ compositions.
C. Offering students career opportunities.
D. Writing books about endangered animals.
27. What’s the article mainly about?
A. Mr. Youngs’ adventurous youth. B. The way to be a successful writer.
C. A teacher’s long-lasting influence. D. The importance of writing courses.
D 25. B 26. A 27. C

C
In Guangdong province, hundreds of offshore wind turbines (风力涡轮机) have been installed in the South China Sea to generate renewable energy. However, these turbines face a major threat: typhoons, which frequently hit China’s coast.
According to Zhu Ronghua, director of the Yangjiang Offshore Wind Energy Laboratory, coastal regions that experience typhoons also possess the best offshore wind resources. The challenge, he says, is to build turbines that can not only resist typhoons but also tap into their energy.
During a typhoon, turbines are under extreme pressure. Blades may break because the speed and direction of wind often change suddenly and dramatically. Its tower can bend or collapse, and its foundation — which also has to take the pressure from waves and currents — is at risk of becoming deformed or overturning. Rain and lightning strikes can damage turbines, too.
While both on-land and offshore turbines in typhoon areas need to be typhoon-resistant, this feature is more critical offshore because typhoons are much stronger at sea. Chinese companies have adopted multiple strategies to enhance turbine resilience, including advanced materials, improved weather forecasting, and upgraded control systems, according to Han Yujia from Global Energy Monitor.
A notable example is OceanX, manufactured by Mingyang Smart Energy Group. Its floating foundation supports two turbines whose blades spin in opposite directions, increasing energy output. The platform is secured to the seabed via a single point, allowing it to side with the wind and reduce load. Its foundation is built with ultra-high performance concrete, four times tougher than normal concrete.
In September 2024, OceanX was installed off the coast of Yangjiang, weeks before Super Typhoon Yagi struck. Despite wind speeds reaching 133 km/h, the turbines survived and generated 2.1 GWh of electricity in nine hours. Goldwind, another Chinese manufacturer, has achieved similar success through innovations like carbon fiber materials and real-time monitoring systems.
Over the next decade, China is expected to add 170 GW of new offshore wind capacity, with about 60% located in typhoon regions. As offshore wind energy expands, so do the engineering challenges.
28. What is the main idea of Paragraph 3?
A. Importance of strong blades. B. Need for better foundations.
C. Turbines’ working conditions. D. Typhoon’s threats to turbines.
29. What does the underlined word “resilience” in Paragraph 4 mean?
A. The ability to generate more electricity.
B. The ability to forecast weather accurately.
C. The ability to resist and recover from damage.
D. The ability to operate without human intervention.
30. What is the main function of the single-point anchoring design?
A. To enable two turbines to spin oppositely.
B. To boost the platform’s total power output.
C. To fix the foundation with special concrete.
D. To let the structure follow the wind direction.
31. What can we infer about the future of offshore wind energy in China?
A. It will stop developing soon. B. It will grow but face challenges.
C. It will avoid typhoon regions. D. It will have no engineering problems.
D 29. C 30. D 31. B
根据第三段“During a typhoon, turbines are under extreme pressure. Blades may break because the speed and direction of wind often change suddenly and dramatically. Its tower can bend or collapse, and its foundation — which also has to take the pressure from waves and currents — is at risk of becoming deformed or overturning. Rain and lightning strikes can damage turbines, too. (在台风来袭时,涡轮机承受着巨大的压力。叶片可能会断裂,因为风速和风向常常会突然且剧烈地发生变化。其塔架可能会弯曲或倒塌,而其基础——还要承受来自海浪和水流的压力——则有变形或倾覆的风险。雨水和雷击也会损坏涡轮机)”可知,本段主要讲述台风对海上风力涡轮机的各类威胁。
【29题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第四段“While both on-land and offshore turbines in typhoon areas need to be typhoon-resistant, this feature is more critical offshore because typhoons are much stronger at sea. Chinese companies have adopted multiple strategies to enhance turbine resilience,(虽然台风地区的陆上和海上涡轮机都需要抗台风,但这一特性在海上更为重要,因为海上的台风要强得多。中国企业采取了多种策略来增强涡轮机resilience)”并结合前文台风易损毁风机的内容可推知,划线词resilience表示抵御破坏、从损伤中恢复的能力。
【30题详解】

No social media. No alcohol or junk food. Sounds dull? Welcome to your dopamine detox Popular among Silicon Valley types, the idea is to stay away from quick-hit rewards in the hope of rediscovering simpler pleasures. The claim is that all these things overstimulate the brain’s dopamine system, causing it to become less responsive and leaving people burnt out.
Taking a purifying break from bad habits is not a new concept. Where it goes wrong is the biochemistry. Enthusiasts imagine that dopamine is the “pleasure molecule (分子)”; a limited resource that can be exhausted by overuse.
That is not how dopamine works. It is involved not just in reward, but also in learning and movement. Fully detoxing from it would be disastrous. Parkinson’s disease, for example, is caused by the loss of dopamine-producing neurons (神经元).
Instead, bursts of it signal surprise — what scientists call a reward-prediction error. When something turns out better than expected, dopamine-producing neurons fire more often than usual. When it turns out worse, they fire less. These sharp rises are teaching signals, strengthening connections between neurons and helping the brain learn which actions are worth repeating.
Eventually behaviour that used to be deliberate, such as selecting an app to message a friend, can become automatic: opening it absent-mindedly every time your phone lights up. Habits can be useful, but they can also be traps. Once a behaviour has become habitual, it can persist even when the outcome itself provides no pleasure. In many ways, apps are designed to be habit-forming, says Georgia Turner, a neuroscientist at Cambridge University, with algorithmic feeds providing a steady flow of low-effort, unpredictable rewards.
Several studies have tested what happens when people take time away from social media. Most find that brief breaks do little for well-being, perhaps because there are short-term costs to being disconnected from social networks. When entire social groups stop using the apps for longer, results seem better. In one school-wide experiment in Britain, conducted by researchers from the University of York, students avoided social media for three weeks and, afterwards, reported better sleep and mood. A dopamine detox, in other words, may well be worth trying.
32. What’s the purpose of people advocating dopamine detox?
A. To refresh one’s brain. B. To remove daily boredom.
C. To reproduce dopamine. D. To refuse social interaction.
33. Why does the author mention Parkinson’s disease?
A. To introduce a common illness. B. To warn harm of physical aging.
C. To prove dopamine’s necessity. D. To explain the effects of neurons.
34. What do we know about dopamine?
A. It is just the joy molecule. B. It serves multiple functions.
C. It causes Parkinson’s directly. D. It can be fully swallowed up.
35. Which method works better for the detox?
A. Long-time group quitting. B. Brief personal separation.
C. Restricting individual use. D. Developing different hobbies.
A 33. C 34. B 35. A

In a society that highly values speed, efficiency, and instant results, slow learning is often considered inefficient and out of date. Many students rush through large amounts of material, hoping that faster learning will bring better grades. ___36___ True, long-lasting knowledge and deep understanding hardly ever develop in a hurry.
Slow learning means dealing with ideas carefully, thinking them over, and connecting new information to what you already know. It is not just memorizing words or formulas for a single test. ____37____ This way of learning allows knowledge to sink in deeply, making it far more useful in real-life situations.
When we try to learn at an unnaturally fast speed, our brains do not have enough time to process and organize information properly. ___38___ This kind of shallow learning may work for a quick quiz, but it rarely leads to real mastery. Slow learning, by contrast, creates stronger memories and a solid base of understanding.
Another major advantage of slow learning is its good effect on our mental state. ___39___When we allow ourselves to slow down, we can focus on understanding instead of worrying about scores, making the whole process more enjoyable.
This is not to say that fast learning is completely useless. In some exams or time-limited tasks, being able to learn quickly can be very helpful. ___40___ For anyone who wants real skill, creativity, and long-term academic success, slow and steady learning remains irreplaceable.
A. They hope to learn faster and score higher.

根据上文“In a society that highly values speed, efficiency, and instant results, slow learning is often considered inefficient and out of date. Many students rush through large amounts of material, hoping that faster learning will bring better grades.(在一个高度重视速度、效率和立竿见影效果的社会中,缓慢的学习往往被视为低效且过时的做法。
根据上文“Slow learning means dealing with ideas carefully, thinking them over, and connecting new information to what you already know. It is not just memorizing words or formulas for a single test.(缓慢的学习意味着仔细处理想法、反复思考并将新信息与已有的知识相联系。这不仅仅是为一次考试而死记硬背单词或公式)”和下文“This way of learning allows knowledge to sink in deeply, making it far more useful in real-life situations.(这种学习方式能让知识深入扎根,使其在实际生活场景中更具实用性)”可知,前文说慢学习不只是为单次考试记知识点,后文说让知识深入、更实用,E项“Instead, it aims at true understanding and critical thinking ability.(相反,它的目标是真正的理解和批判性思维能力)”符合语境,Instead...与上文not just...
根据上文“When we try to learn at an unnaturally fast speed, our brains do not have enough time to process and organize information properly.(当我们试图以一种不自然的快速速度学习时,我们的大脑没有足够的时间来妥善处理和组织信息)”及下文“This kind of shallow learning may work for a quick quiz, but it rarely leads to real mastery. (这种浅层次的学习可能在快速的测验中奏效,但很少能带来真正的掌握)”可知,前文说过快学习时大脑没有足够时间处理整理信息,后文讲快速学习智能形成短暂记忆。D项“This is why information learned quickly is easily forgotten.(这就是为什么快速学习获得的信息很容易被遗忘)”符合语境。
根据上文“Another major advantage of slow learning is its good effect on our mental state.(缓慢学习的另一个重大优势在于它对我们的心理状态有着很好的影响)”和下文“When we allow ourselves to slow down, we can focus on understanding instead of worrying about scores, making the whole process more enjoyable.(当我们允许自己放慢速度时,我们就能专注于理解,而非纠结于分数,从而使整个过程更加愉快)”可知,本段主语讲慢学习对精神状态的好处,空后提到不用焦虑分数、学习更愉悦。F项“ It reduces worry and helps learners find pleasure in gaining knowledge.(它能减轻忧虑,并帮助学习者在获取知识的过程中找到乐趣)”符合语境。
根据上文“This is not to say that fast learning is completely useless. In some exams or time-limited tasks, being able to learn quickly can be very helpful.(这并不是说快速学习完全没有用处。在某些考试或限时任务中,能够快速学习确实非常有帮助)”和下文“For anyone who wants real skill, creativity, and long-term academic success, slow and steady learning remains irreplaceable.(对于那些想要获得真正技能、创造力和长期学业成功的人来说,缓慢而稳定的学习仍然是无可替代的)”可知,前文承认快学习在某些场景有用,后文指出慢学习对长期成功不可替代。C项“Still, quick learning can never match deep slow study.(尽管如此,快学习永远比不上深度慢学习)”衔接前后,肯定慢学习的重要。

What’s the proper English for the Chinese New Year
This year’s Spring Festival is the first one since its entry onto UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. With the Spring Festival gradually gaining global ___56___ (recognize), opinions vary on whether the festival should be called “Spring Festival” or “Chinese New Year”, with some also arguing ___57___ the term “Lunar New Year”.
The term “Spring Festival” is a literal translation of the Chinese word “Chunjie”. The character “Chun” means “spring”, ___58___ (symbolize) renewal and new beginnings, while “Jie” means “festival”. When applying for UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, ___59___ Chinese working group used the direct translation “Spring Festival”, which ___60___ (adopt) in the published document officially.
However, some argue that “Spring Festival” may lack the cultural depth conveyed by “Chinese New Year”, ___61___ better captures the essence of “guonian”, — bidding farewell to the old year and welcoming the new. Some claim that “Lunar New Year” is ___62___ (inclusive), recognizing shared celebrations across cultures, especially in East and Southeast Asia. Others believe that the Spring Festival is based on the traditional Chinese calendar, combining both lunar and solar elements. Therefore, the term “Lunar New Year” is scientifically ___63___ (accurate).
The debate over whether ___64___ (call) the festival “Spring Festival”, “Chinese New Year” or “Lunar New Year” may persist, ____65____ one thing is certain: the Spring Festival is becoming a festival celebrated worldwide.
56. recognition
57. for 58. symbolizing
59. the 60. was adopted
61. which 62. more inclusive
63. inaccurate
64. to call
65. but
Spring Festival、Chinese New Year和Lunar New Year三种叫法的由来与各方观点。
句意:关于该节日该命名为“Spring Festival”、“Chinese New Year”还是“Lunar New Year”的争论或许还会持续。

One seed of doubt blossomed into a shared treasure for a neighborhood.
Sophia came from Brazil to study environmental science. She loved nature but missed the green of home. Her new neighborhood felt completely different: no parks to soften the corners, no gardens to brighten the blocks — just concrete and asphalt (柏油) stretching on and on.
Each day, one empty lot seized her attention. Weeds grew wild and high. Broken bottles flashed coldly in the sun. Old tires lay half-buried in mud. A sour smell rose from piled trash. Neighbors hurried past with eyes turned away. It wasn’t merely ignored; it felt like a shared shame.
“Why does nobody care?” she murmured one afternoon. An old woman paused, “Care? Young lady, we care about getting dinner on the table.”
That night, doubt crept in. Who was she to lead anything? She was young, new here, alone. But morning brought clarity. With a notebook in hand, she walked to the lot: vegetables here, flowers there, benches where people could rest. Her pencil flew; her heartbeat quickened.
Days slid into weeks. Sophia knocked on every door, sharing her vision. Some doors shut. Others cracked open. Slowly, a few neighbors agreed to help. The first Saturday came. Only three people showed up. Under harsh sun they cleared weeds, backs aching — yet it felt right.
Not everyone welcomed change. Mr. Henderson, next door, stood at his fence, arms crossed. “This will bring rats,” he said sharply. “And noise. I’ve lived here thirty years. I like it quiet.” Sophia tried to explain; he turned away. Then Mr. Davis arrived — a retired gardener with a kind heart and a sharp tongue. “Your soil is dead,” he said flatly. “Nothing will grow without real work.” The words hurt more than she expected.
Worse followed. Heavy rain washed out their first planting. Pests (害虫) chewed through tender leaves. Some neighbors whispered the project would fail. That night, Sophia sat on her steps, head in her hands. She had never felt so small.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
But help came from where she least expected.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Today, the garden blooms in every season.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
But help came from where she least expected. Mr. Davis arrived the next morning with compost and a stubborn smile. “Let’s fix this soil,” he said. Before long, the earth smelled rich and ready. Then came a knock. Mr. Henderson stood there — this time in support. “A garden beats a dump,” he admitted, eyes low. Soon, more neighbors arrived. They cleared, planted, and laughed together. Now they all had a part to play.
Today, the garden blooms in every season. Children chase butterflies along stone paths. Families harvest vegetables for dinner. On summer evenings, neighbors gather on wooden benches, sharing stories as fireflies dance above. Sophia often sits quietly, watching. She remembers the lonely girl who once dreamed alone. Now she understands that one seed of an idea, planted in willing hearts, can grow into something far greater than any single person could imagine. The garden taught them all that beauty grows best when it is shared.

D

B. People have their own speed and ways of learning.
C. Still, quick learning can never match deep slow study.
D. This is why information learned quickly is easily forgotten.
E. Instead, it aims at true understanding and critical thinking ability.
F. It reduces worry and helps learners find pleasure in gaining knowledge.
G. Actually, this hurry often leads to weak memory and poor comprehension.

注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
