When Jessika Kattah was put in a wheelchair, she knew she wouldn't be able to walk
again.
But she could still fly.
Kattah and other disabled people have found a home once a month at iFly,an indoor
skydiving center in Davie,US.Every second Thursday of the month,iFly hosts All Abilities
Night,at which individuals with physical challenges can safely try the free-fall simulation in a
giant wind tunnel.
And if you're thinking that floating in a giant wind tunnel is nothing like jumping out of
an airplane,Kattah is happy to tell you that you're wrong.
"You definitely get that feeling of flying,"said Kattah, who did skydiving twice."But
the fact that I'm able to get out of my chair makes it so great. You forget about your
disability;you're just like everybody else."
The experience is safe and almost anyone can participate.Few people come out without a
big smile on their face, and there will be applause from the people sitting in the observation
area.
Chuck Petscher, who is blind, had never been the type of person to try anything risky.
But recently he decided to give indoor skydiving a shot."I'll do this, but I'm not jumping out
of an airplane,he joked.
"When you're disabled, you usually have to do things in a different way from everybody
else,"he said."Here, you're doing what everybody else is doing. That's what turned me on
toit.”
This is also why Kattah has started sharing her experiences on a blog. She wants to send
a message to people like her that even though they may feel restricted by their disability, they
can always do something they never thought they'd be able to do.

Music is not just a set of sounds and rhythms. Its influence on the brain is much deeper
than any other human experience.Keep on reading to know all about the amazing power of
music.
A recent study suggests that preterm()babies appear to experience less pain and
feed more when listening to music.A team of experts led by Dr.Manoj Kumar of University
of Alberta,Canada, found that music had a beneficial effect on reducing pain for preterm
babies experiencing painful medical tests. It also appeared to benefit full-term babies during
operations.
Many people experiencing brain damage have speech and movement-related problems.
Music can help them recover from brain injuries. As a different and effective treatment,
doctors often advise such patients to listen to good music to improve the parts of the brain
responsible for these two functions. When people with neurological(神经系统的)disorders
hear a musical beat,it helps them to regain a balanced walk.
Though music cannot make deafness disappear,it can really stave off the loss of hearing.
There was an experiment involving 163 people where 74 were musicians.Participants were
asked to pass some listening tests.Musicians heard the sounds better than non-musicians,and
this difference got clearer with age. This means that a 70-year-old musician hears better than a
50-year-old non-musician,even in a noisy environment.
Besides,music mends a broken heart.It is not about thrown-away love,but about a
heart attack. The matter is that music can help people recover from a heart attack or a heart
operation by reducing blood pressure, slowing down the heartbeat rate, and reducing anxiety.
Listening to the quality music produces positive emotions, improves the movement of blood,
and expands blood vessels, thus, promoting quick recovery of the whole cardiovascular(

Midway through The Matriz,Cypher tastes an enormous steak, well aware that his
reality is not real, part of a digital program telling his brain that the steak is a construction
and that it is "juicy and delicious".Two decades after the movie made its first appearance,
something unexpected arises:The future of reality will not only be virtual but also synthetic
(合成t的).Cypher's future meal will be a physical one, synthesized from animal cells.
And the synthesis goes beyond dinner.Starting with components from the natural world,
scientists are learning to engineer microorganisms and build biocomputing systems. However,
biology has a tendency to evolve in unexpected ways.
Synthesized meat is one case in point. The driving forces behind the meat movement are
practical. It has been estimated that cultured()meat would require 7 to 45 percent less
energy and produce 78 to 96 percent less greenhouse gas than conventional animals farmed for
consumption. But once we're able to synthesize meat, theoretically,we'll have the capability
to culture meat from any animal, even those we'd never consider eating today, like dolphins or
chimpanzees, which will pose a new regulatory challenge for us.
Using synthetic biology,we can even edit and rewrite life, the technology of which are
already in use.In 2021,scientists in some countries announced they had grown monkey
embryos()injected with human stem cells. Here comes the situation worth considering,
such a monkey-human hybrid will demonstrate qualities that are somewhere between humans,
on which experimentation isn't allowed, and animals, which are often raised specifically for
research. How will we decide when an animal becomes too human?
Depending on where you stand, the synthetic realities land somewhere between "really
exciting"and "critically concerning".As individuals,we undertake a shared responsibility to
make good choices about this coming synthetic technology.
32.What do we know about Cypher's steak in the movie?
A.It is anything but appetizing.
B.It is enjoyed in a virtual world.
C.It is synthesized from animal cells.
D.It is a construction made by himself.
33.What's the advantage of synthesized meat?
A.It is more nutritious.
B.It is more energy-consuming.
C.It is more environment-friendly.
D.It is more controllable in regulation.
34.What can we know about the monkey in paragraph 4?
A.The monkey has been developed worldwide.
B.The monkey looks like a human being.
C.The monkey-human hybrid is very popular.

Brand New You
We're always told that no one likes a show-off,but a little bit of boasting()does us
all the world of good.
Once a year I teach a class on building personal brand to a group of women in the creative
industries. At the start I ask each of the attendees how they feel about the phrase "personal
brand".36 Most of them will tell me it feels too much like boasting.By the end of the
session, however, there's a change in mood and it always comes down to one key point that I
think everyone should know.So I'm sharing it here!
It's really quite simple:acknowledging your strengths does not mean you boast yourself.
37 But then we do an exercise that proves my point.I put the women in pairs and give
them five minutes each to talk about things they love and are good at.When I give the
instructions I am greeted by looks of horror.Five minutes?!Only talking about themselves?!
What if the other person thinks they're boasting?
38 So is sharing it with others. And yet it's so lovely to hear someone else share their
passion. The room is filled with connection, laughter and joy.And so I tell them, and now
you,if you only take one thing away from this workshop let it be this:sharing what you love
and are good at-your passion-with someone else, never comes across as boasting.39
And if you want to feel really great today, ask someone to share what they love and are
good at with you.If they only talk about what they love, encourage them to tell you why
they're good at it.40 Maybe we'll all feel better for it.
A.It is a form of connection and a gift.
B.Almost everyone feels uneasy about it.
C.Many people are impressed by your passion.
D.Boast your strengths by building your personal brand.
E.Try to create a "boasting culture"in our pride-avoidant society.
F.When I say this in the workshop, there are always raised eyebrows.
G.Owning what we are good at is an unfamiliar concept in our culture.

Tina,a high school student,had a great passion for baking.With her parents'support,
Tina dreamed of opening her own bakery,a place where she could turn her interest into a
business. However, she knew the importance of improving her skills and gaining real-world
experience.
Therefore, every Saturday, without fail, she would set up a small but charming table at a
local park. The park, filled with families and laughter, was the perfect place for Tina to sell
her creations. Her table, neatly laid out with colorful homemade cookies and cakes, attracted
passers-by with the desserts'smell.
On a particularly bright and sunny afternoon,as Tina was carefully arranging her
chocolate cookies and cakes, her attention was drawn to an elderly woman sitting alone on a
bench. The woman, with her silver hair and sad eyes, seemed lost in thought. As the hours
went by,Tina noticed that the woman remained where she was, seemingly forgotten by the
world.A sense of concern washed over Tina.So she decided to act.She poured a cup of warm
tea carefully and cut a generous slice of her rich chocolate cake,a crowd favorite, and
approached the woman.
"I thought you might like some snacks,"Tina said with a warm,inviting smile.The
woman's face lit up as she accepted the treat."Thank you, dear.I haven't had such a
delicious treat since my retirement,"she responded, her voice soft yet filled with gratitude.
As she enjoyed the cake, tears rolled down her face.
A little shocked,Tina asked what had happened. The woman introduced herself as Mrs.
Robins, who had been a baker before she retired.Since losing her husband to cancer a week
ago,she had been living alone. Her visits to the park were her escape from the loneliness that
filled her quiet home.Tina listened attentively, her heart touched by the woman's story.

importance of keeping up.Through my blogs.I hope I've opened people's eyes to the beauty of our world.
