Known as the“Noah'sArk(诺亚方舟)For Plants”,the Curukula Botanical Reserve in
Kerala,India, protecting valuable plant species damaged by deforestation, urbanization, and
climate change,is carefully tended by a team of 20 mostly local women.
It began in 1981 when Wolfgang Theuerkauf,a German conservationist, was gifted seven
acres of old-growth rainforest.Back then, the surrounding land was being cleared for tea and fruit
plantations ()Wolfgang quickly acted when he saw.the ancient rainforest, holding
diverse plant species, start to disappear. He began to collect endangered plants, bringing them
back to his land, where the Reserve was initially created. He employed and trained women of the
local, rural communities.Though lacking formal education, the women were familiar with their
surroundings.They learned through hands-on experience:transplanting,observing,and
persevering through trial and error.
One of them,Laly Joseph,joined as a young woman."I liked working with plants,so I
joined, she recalls.Years later, she now leads the Reserve's plant conservation work and has
even co-authored several scientific papers.Another woman,Lakshmi, used to pick coffee beans

for low wages. Now she manages over 100 species of plants. There is also Sheena,a senior
gardener who joined at age 15.The job has supported her children and mother after she lost her
husband.
Using traditional wisdom and hands-on experimentation, the team patiently cultivates
endangered plants until they can be reintroduced into the wild.Specifically, they focus on
herbaceous(草本的)plants, which are vital for holding the ecosystem together..“Forests are
substantially more than trees,"shares Subrabha Seshan,an educator at the Reserve. As the
restored forest becomes thicker and more ecologically complex,it has attracted a wealth of
wildlife:240 bird species,20 snake species,over 65 butterfly species,and 15 small mammal
species. This biodiversity proves that the team is on the right path.
“We're restoring nature's ability to heal(诒愈)itself,”Seshan tells the Guardian,“Wedo
some work, but nature's doing most of the work."
24.What motivated Wolfgang to start the Reserve?

A.Forest ecosystem is stable.
B.Forests include diverse creatures.
C.Wildlife protection is necessary.
D.Substantial trees should be planted.
27.What is the passage mainly talking about?
A.Rich biodiversity in Kerala's rainforests.
B.A German conservationist's contribution.
C.How to protect endangered plant species.
D.Kerala women are restoring the rainforest.

AI-generated faces are becoming more and more common.Spotting a fake face created by AI
might sound like a job for advanced algorithms ()but research suggests humans can learn
to do it surprisingly well with just five minutes of training.
A study from the University of Reading found that a brief training showing people common
flaws (in AI-generated faces boosted detection rates'significantly.Additionally, the
research revealed that most people without training perform worse when trying to identify Al-
generated faces, often perceiving them as more realistic than actual human photographs.
The findings offer a practical solution to a growing security threat.AI-generated faces have
already been used to create fake social media accounts, and as the technology improves, the
potential for cheating and misinformation grows.
The study tested 664 participants, including people with exceptional face recognition abilities
called super-recognizers.All participants viewed faces created by StyleGAN3,the most advanced
face-generation system available at the time of data collection. The AI-generated images were
paired with real photographs.Without training, typical participants scored just 42%accuracy
when asked to identify which of two faces was AI-generated.Super-recognizers fared better at
54%,but still showed room for improvement.
The training intervention was remarkably simple.Researchers showed participants examples
of minor flaws that AI systems sometimes leave in generated images. These included oddly
rendered hair, unusual numbers of teeth,or strange transitions where facial features meet the
background.Participants then completed ten practice trials and received immediate feedback(
on whether their answers were correct. After that,super-recognizers jumped to 64%
accuracy, performing significantly better than chance.Typical participants also improved
第4页(共8页)
substantially, getting rid of the tendency to perceive fake faces as more real than real ones.
For now,the message is clear:humans aren't helpless against AI-generated faces.With just
a few minutes of instruction on what to look for, people can significantly improve their ability to
spot fakes in an increasingly digital world.
28.What do untrained people think of AI-generated faces according to the research?
A.They are unreliable.
B.They have obvious flaws.
C.They are more realistic.
D.They can be identified easily.
29.Which word has the closest meaning to "fared"in paragraph 4?
A.Performed.
B.Conveyed.
C.Represented.
D.Emerged.
30.What does paragraph 5 mainly talk about?
A.Steps of recognizing fake faces.
B.Examples of minor flaws in images.
C.The challenges in the experiment.
D.The method and effect of intervention.
31.What's the best title for the text?
A.Super-Recognizers:A Practical Solution
B.Brief Training Boosts Fake Face Detection
C.The Unrealistic Realism of AI-generated Faces
D.AI-Generated Faces:A Growing Security Threat

Umbrellas are extremely useful objects. They keep you dry when it is raining and in the
summer, they can protect you from the sun. They come in an enormous variety of sizes and colors,
but the design of a steel-ribbed (umbrella hasn't really changed since the 1850s when it
was invented.
Afterall,if it's not broken, don't fix it.But that is not entirely the case.Umbrellas come with
a design limitation, reported Fast Company, and that makes them unstable in wind.A strong wind
can destroy the umbrella's steel cage, making it unusable. But now there is a new frameless
umbrella that works by folding like Japanese origami ()
This newly designed Ori umbrella removes the unstable frame over 1.2 billion broken
umbrellas are abandoned every year)and uses a complex material canopy (that fits into a
3.5-centimeter long container that is smaller than even the most mini-style umbrellas, according
to the company website. The design team included MIT engineers and origami experts that usually
worked in industries that require advanced structures, including satellites.
Fast Company reported that the team used an origami technique that was invented by
Japanese astrophysicist Koryo Miura in 1970.This allows for a close and firm fold and has been
used in satellites. When opened, the canopy feels solid and is wind-resistant,unlike a typical
umbrella.
"Everyone owns one,yet the umbrella is a forgotten object, stuck in the past.We wanted to
turn it into a modern device:smart, intentional, superior, and engineered like a modern
device,"Ori founder Balcytis told Fast Company.
In addition to the new structural advances,Ori umbrella included some digital features into
the canopy, according to DesignBoom.A built-in display monitors air-quality readings and
weather. There is also an easy one-tap system to open and close the umbrella.
All of these interactive features introduce a smart system to the umbrella. This next
generation high-tech product is not your great-grandfather's umbrella and it's not available in
drugstores now.The first edition is planned for later in 2026.
32.Why are traditional steel-ribbed umbrellas unsatisfactory?
A.Their types are quite limited.
B.They fail to resist strong wind.
C.They are inconvenient to carry
D.Their colors look old-fashioned.
33.What can we infer about the Ori umbrella?
A.It adopts advanced structures.
B.It has a stabler frame.
C.It will not be abandoned.
D.It is longer than 3.5 cm.
第5页(共8页)
34.What additional function does Ori umbrella have?
A.Playing various digital videos.
B.Predicting the weather.
C.Controlling temperature change.
D.Checking air quality.
35.What is the author's attitude towards the Ori umbrella?
A.Doubtful.
B.Pessimistic.
C.Favorable.
D.Uncertain.

In today's workplace, the role of a manager is more complex than ever.Leaders are
navigating a fast-changing economy, technological disruption (yes,AI really is reshaping the way
we work),and evolving expectations about what it means to lead.At the same time, they are
responsible for supporting teams of humans who are also feeling the weight of uncertainty and
personal challenges.36
But here's the truth:perfection is impossible.Managers are human.37 What truly
defines great leadership is not a perfect record, but the way managers respond when things go
wrong. So,what should a great leader do when they mess up?
Acknowledge it.
This is the foundation.Leaders must resist the instinct (to deny responsibility or
minimize the mistake..even when it wasn't entirely theirs.38 When team members see that
it's safe for the person in charge to admit mistakes, they're far more likely to do the same, which
benefits a culture of openness and learning.
Apologize sincerely.
Many of us are conditioned to believe that apologizing signals weakness.
391t
demonstrates care, responsibility and respect for the people impacted by your actions.Apologizing
for your role helps clear the air and paves the way for the team to move forward.
40
Leaders set the tone for reflective practice. When something goes wrong,be transparent
)about what happened and what you'll do differently next time. For bigger challenges, invite
team members to reflect together. You might gain valuable insights and help deepen collective
learning.
A.Share your learnings with the team.
B.Making mistakes is an unavoidable thing.
C.What matters most is how you deal with them.
D.But it is essential for growth and trust-building.
E.In reality,a genuine apology is a powerful act of leadership.
F.Owning your part in a misstep promotes psychological safety.
G.It's no wonder so many managers feel pressure to perform perfectly.

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和厅给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Every Sunday morning,17-year-old Lina would wake up to the soft melody (from her
grandpa's old radio. The wooden radio, with an old red paint, had been with Grandpa for over 40
years."It played the first song I danced to with your grandma,"Grandpa often said, gently
wiping the radio with a cloth.Lina used to shake her head and roll her eyes at these stories-she
preferred her smartphone's playlists.
Last month,Grandpa fell ill and had to stay in the hospital. Before leaving,he handed the
radio to Lina."Take care of it,dear.It'll remind you I'm always here,"he whispered.Lina
nodded, but she placed the radio on a shelf in the attic ()where her grandpa often put old
things, forgetting about it amid her busy exam preparations.
A few days later,a thunderstorm hit their town. The power went out,and Lina's phone died.
Bored and anxious, she wandered around the entire house and spotted the old radio.Curious, she
pushed the button, but only a noisy sound came out.Her heart sank-Grandpa's precious radio
was broken.
Lina rushed to the repair shop downtown. The shop owner,an elderly man, shook his head.
"Parts for this model are impossible to find now,"he said.Lina walked out, feeling helpless. She
thought of Grandpa's smile when he talked about the radio and realized how much it meant to him.
That night,Lina sat by the window, staring at the radio. She remembered the times Grandpa
had helped her with math problems, even when he was tired."I can't let this radio die,"she
said.Suddenly, she noticed a small note in the radio's battery box.
Unfolding the note,Lina saw Grandma's handwriting:"To my love-this radio will play our
song even when I'm gone.Love lasts longer than things."Tears rolled down Lina's cheeks. She
made a decision-she would fix the radio,no matter what. Then,Lina searched the attic for her
grandpa's old things, intending to find something related to the radio.
