Part3 阅读能力提升 一、阅读理解 First-ever private spacewalk On September 12th, 2024, astronauts of U.S. Polaris Dawn mission completed a spacewalk. It was the first spacewalk ever organized by a private company, not by a government. The mission showed an important change in the way humans explore space. Jared Isaacman, who had flown to space once before, led the mission team. The other astronauts weren’t professionals — one was a pilot, and the other two only had the experience of organizing space missions. SpaceX launched the Polaris Dawn mission from NASA’s Kennedy Space Centre on September 10th. The Dragon capsule (“龙”飞船) carrying the astronauts reached the highest point of their trip, about 1,400 kilometers above Earth. That was farther than any astronauts had gone since 1972, when NASA astronauts visited the moon. After the Dragon capsule had dropped back down closer to Earth, it was time for a spacewalk. The spacewalk was meant to test the astronauts’ new spacesuits. The spacesuits were much lighter and easier to put on and take off than NASA’s. They connected to the capsule with a tube(管), which provided air and temperature control. The spacewalk didn’t last long. Mr. Isaacman went first, climbing up a ladder and standing with half of his body outside the capsule. Looking down at Earth, he said, “From here, Earth looks like a perfect world.” The astronauts continued to perform tests all through the five-day mission. The mission is being celebrated as an important success. SpaceX and Mr. Isaacman hope to bring down the costs of space travel and make it possible for humans to go to space one day. 1.Why was this spacewalk so special?( ) A.It took the shortest time. B.It happened on the moon. C.It was a non-governmental action. D.It was the first spacewalk completed by a woman. 2.Who do “professionals” refer to?( ) A.People who like taking risks. B.People who have many hobbies. C.People who actively take part in exploring space. D.People who are highly experienced in spaceflight. 3.Which of the following is TRUE about the new spacesuit?( ) A.It made movement easier for astronauts. B.It ensured astronauts enough air. C.It helped keep astronauts safer. D.It was NASA’s latest product. 4.What can we infer from the passage?( ) A.The spacewalk has become affordable. B.Mr. Isaacman wants to be the first on Mars. C.It’s possible for ordinary people to go to space. D.SpaceX and Mr. Isaacman will no longer work together. 5.What’s the purpose of the passage?( ) A.To explain why spacewalks are costly.
