Children in the Amazon often throw mangoes at each other as a fun game. Now the game has become a real sport: manbol. Its name comes from the words: mango and ball. The game is very popular in Brazil.
Rui Hildebrando, 44, started the sport. “At first, it was a simple game between my brother and me. He would throw a mango at me and I would throw it back. But after a while, I thought it would be more fun if we both threw a mango at each other at the same time,” he said.
Hildebrando made the rules for this game. In the game, each player from two teams throws a mango-shaped ball over a net in a fast, fun way at the same time. The two players have to catch the balls at the same time, too. To win, a team must win two sets of 12 points. Each game can be played with up to three players. And a match lasts between 15 and 25 minutes. The fact that there are two balls makes the game very fun.
The new game is slowly spreading across Rio’s beaches. Now, there are about 2,000 players across the country. It has also gone to 11 other countries.
Manbol can be played by people of any age. Maybe it will become an Olympic sport one day.

结合下文“I’m just a little busy.(我只是有点忙。)”
根据下文李明的回答“I’m making a plan for our graduation ceremony.(我正在为我们的毕业典礼做计划。)”
How can I help you?(当然。我能怎么帮你?)”可知,李明在此处提出了寻求帮助的请求,故填入“Would you like to help me?”或“Can you help me?”等。
根据上文李明的提问“Can you use a camera?(你会用照相机吗?)”以及下文韩梅补充的“I’m good at taking photos.(我擅长拍照。)”
根据上文李明的问题“how can we show thanks to our teachers?(我们怎样才能向老师表达感谢呢?)” 例如:“Let’s send them our thank-you cards.”
As a child, you must have been asked: What do you want to be when you grow up?
When I was your age, I was often asked the same question. Unlike my classmates, I would stay ____26____ instead of answering.
But I had dream jobs—lots of them. In fact, I was just unsure how to ____27____ my thoughts to answer that question.
I always dreamed of becoming a teacher because I enjoyed grading (评分) papers. As a way to prepare for exams, I would create a ____28____ for myself, take it and then grade it. I also dreamed of becoming a radio broadcaster (播音员). Also, there was the idea of working with animals in a zoo.
____29____ I grew older, I learned more about myself and these different jobs. My dream of becoming a Chinese teacher won out ____30____. It led me to study Chinese in college. But later I realized I wasn’t good at public speaking. But a teacher has to do that every day, so I ____31____ that dream.
Now I’m working as an editor (编辑) in a newspaper office. In a way, I’m still teaching, but through ____32____ on paper.
If you, too, have a million dreams and are unsure of your future, don’t worry. When you grow up, you’ll learn more about yourself and the world. Just keep your dreams ____33____ and go for them. You’ll achieve them one day.
26. A. relaxed B. active C. silent
27. A. spare B. organize C. hide
28. A. test B. plan C. list
29. A. If B. Though C. As
30. A. certainly B. finally C. probably
31. A. thought of B. gave up C. cared about
32. A. words B. sounds C. secrets
33. A. fresh B. natural C. alive
26. C 27. B 28. A 29. C 30. B 31. B 32. A 33. C
固定搭配“As I grew older”表示随着长大,As“随着”表示时间推移。
根据“wasn’t good at”可知,不擅长所以放弃,gave up“放弃”符合。

Many people think that outgoing people are usually more popular than quiet people in our lives. However, scientists find quiet people can do better than outgoing people in many ways.
____34____
Quiet people don’t show their own ideas often. They are more likely to listen to what others say. Then they use the information to form a new opinion later. When they need to speak, they usually say something useful or fun.
____35____
Quiet people are often seen as more honest. Because they talk less, many people think they can keep secrets in business or in other special social situations.
____36____
Quiet people are more likely to spend time alone thinking and reflecting on their thoughts. This gives them a chance to develop their ideas. Since quiet people are good at using their imagination, it allows them to think of new ways of doing things.
____37____
Quiet people are often prepared for everything. They think about what they need to do and how to do it in order to achieve their goals. They are more careful while going ahead. They make sure everything goes well according to their plans.

There are over 300 kinds of local operas in China. Sichuan Opera is one of the oldest forms of Chinese opera. As the most interesting opera form from Southwest China, it is popular in Sichuan, Chongqing and some areas of Yunnan and Guizhou.
The opera has three special techniques—changing faces, spitting (吐) fire, and rolling lights. Face changing is the most famous one. It is an important intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产) in China. Only a few actors have picked up this technique. They know how to change the face masks magically. As they wave their arms and turn their heads, their painted masks change again and again.
Face changing started about 300 years ago. In the beginning, opera actors changed the color of their faces by blowing into a bowl of red, black or gold powder (粉末). The powder would stick to their oiled skin quickly. In another way, actors would cover their faces with colored paste (糊状物) hidden in their hands. By the 1920s, opera actors began using masks made of oiled paper. They could peel them one after another faster. At present, the actors use full-face painted silk masks. They are so thin that actors can even change about 10 masks in 20 seconds.
As the materials of the masks are changing, we can enjoy more kinds of masks and they are much thinner than before. Sichuan Opera keeps developing because of new technologies.

Memory is important. It is the reflection(反映)of past experience in the human brain. Some scientists believe that there are three types of memory—immediate(瞬时), short-term and long-term memory.
Three different kinds of memory
Type
Holding Time
Example
Immediate memory
0. 25~2 seconds
The name of a road you have just seen
Short-term memory
5 seconds~2minutes
Telephone numbers
Long-term memory
Lifelong
An ancient poem or the meanings of words
Chart Ⅰ
Memory helps you succeed in study, work and life. Can it be improved? Actually, the healthier your lifestyle is, the better your memory will become. But don’t expect a sudden change—it takes a long time.
According to the studies, there are some skills that help you remember things faster and better. Dividing what you need to memorize into smaller parts is a good way of remembering information. What’s more, organizing information into groups of the same kind is really helpful. It’s also a good method to use your imagination and connect it with something that you are familiar(熟悉)with.
I used to forget my school ID card number—2127983630. To memorize it, I divided the numbers into three groups: first 212, then 798, and lastly 3630. This method really made a difference.
Chart Ⅱ
However, memory skills will hardly work if you don’t understand the information. What’s more, only regular review can make the memory last long. That is why students are always advised to go over what they have learned after one day and then after three days, and then use it as often as possible.
All in all, if you change your lifestyle and try some memory skills, you can certainly improve your memory.
54. What is memory?

57. Because only regular review can make the memory last long.
58. Yes, I do. /No, I don’t.
I will train my brain by teaching my group members because teaching others strengthens understanding. …
/I will develop a healthy lifestyle and master some useful memory skills.
/I will often go over what I have learned.
It is the reflection of past experience in the human brain.”,该句直接给出了记忆的官方定义,与问题“What is memory?”
根据第一个表格中Long-term memory的相关信息,其保存时间为Lifelong,举例为“An ancient poem or the meanings of words”,小学学习的古诗会被终身记住,完全符合长期记忆的特征,因此答案是long-term memory。
根据第二个表格中的例子“To memorize it, I divided the numbers into three groups: first 212, then 798, and lastly 3630.”,该句明确描述了Lin Tao记忆学号的具体方法,因此答案是By dividing the numbers into three groups. /He divided the numbers into three groups。
根据倒数第二段“What’s more, only regular review can make the memory last long. That is why students are always advised to go over what they have learned after one day and then three days, and then use it as often as possible.”,句中的“That is why”表明前半句就是学生需要定期复习的原因,因此答案是Because only regular review can make the memory last long。

Many people think that outgoing people are usually more popular than quiet people in our lives. However, scientists find quiet people can do better than outgoing people in many ways.

Have you ever heard of face changing or “bianlian” in Chinese? The amazing technique (技艺) in Sichuan Opera is used to express different feelings and characters through the actors’ face masks (面具).

46. How do opera actors perform face changing?
