B On the morning of November 13, a sweet violin tune (曲调) flowed along the Qingdao seashore, combining perfectly with the ocean waves. The man playing the violin is Petar Kutin, a Bulgarian teaching music at Yew Chung International School of Qingdao. For Kutin, who has been fully trained in Western music, Chinese music holds a special attraction. He skillfully unites Chinese and Western musical elements and works with Chinese musicians to create original pieces. In one of his latest works, Kutin combines his violin with the erhu, along with the sounds of birds and frogs, creating a harmonious and moving composition. “I believe that music is an unbelievably powerful language that brings people together,” Kutin said. At Yew Chung International School of Qingdao, this philosophy comes to life. To help his students with different backgrounds overcome culture shock and quickly adapt to the Chinese environment, Kutin arranges music pieces suitable for their abilities. “When students perform together, it promotes teamwork and allows them to express both their cultural identity and individuality. Playing together builds confidence, happiness, and a sense of belonging. Music truly connects the performers,” Kutin said. Kutin also uses music to deliver meaningful messages to his students. He wrote the words of a song about frugality (节俭) together with the students, explaining what frugality means — reusing items instead of throwing them unnecessarily, avoiding waste. They turned this message into a song and then into a music video, which they play almost every week. In addition to his work at school, Kutin composes music for social causes. He has created several pieces to help people suffering from anxiety relax and find comfort. “Music is continuously developing, and musicians must keep learning to grow,” he said. With a love for creating and sharing, Kutin aims to promote deeper connections between people and cultures, contributing to a more harmonious and lively future through music. 4. What is special about Kutin’s works? A. He writes songs about Bulgarian folk tales. B. He applies nature things to music teaching. C. He combines many sound elements creatively. D. He performs Western classical pieces in a Chinese style. 5. How does Kutin like music? A. It develops students’talent. B. It bridges cultural gaps among people. C. It explains the philosophy of life. D. It removes people’s worries and struggles. 6. What do students learn via the song project mentioned in paragraph 4? A. The value of reusing resources. B. The need to keep simple lifestyles. C. The way to express themselves musically. D. The importance of original song composition. 7. What can we know about Kutin? A. His goal shifted to becoming a famous composer. B. His creations serve both education and society. C. He plans to work with more Chinese musicians. D. He values advanced teaching ideas of music. C The Night of the Radishes (萝卜) is a centuries-old event held on December 23 every year in Oaxaca, Mexico, where people carve oversized radishes into scenes for a competition. The radishes grown for the competition are different from the small, thin, red and white ones that are commonly on the tables of most restaurants in Mexico. Most often, they’re not very tasty. Instead, they’re used as artists’ canvas and hand-carved into different festive scenes. There are two primary radish-carving types in the modern-day Night of the Radishes competition — traditional or free. The traditional one requires the radish works to reflect the Oaxacan culture and festivals. The free type allows entrants to carve anything they want. The tradition of carving radishes dates back to the late 19th century, when Oaxaca’s farmers would attract buyers’ attention in the Zócalo, the city’s main square, by creatively showing their seasonal produce. Oaxaca’s long-standing wood carving tradition also plays a part. At some point, local wood carvers showed interest in the big radishes on display and decided to carve them into eye-catching scenes in the hope of making an extra sale. In 1897, Oaxaca’s Municipal President, Francisco Vasconcelos, decided to make the radish-carved scene tradition official and created a competition to be held on Dec.23. Today, the radish festival’s cultural roots remain the same. Early on the morning of December 23, Oaxaca’s main square is changed into an exhibition (展览) space. Competitors begin to work on their radishes at first light. Their works will formally be judged by mid-afternoon. More than 120,000 Mexican pesos(around $ 6,000)are on the line for the best designs, which are decided by a respected judging team made up of officials, previous winners and artists, who will award the prizes at 18:00. As night draws in, competitors can carry their masterpieces back home. These radishes will be shown on mantelpieces (壁炉架) or outside homes for a few more hours before the white radish flesh begins to turn brown and soften. In 24 hours, they’ll be only good for compost (肥料), from which new radishes can grow the next year. 8. How would you describe competition radishes? A. Big and tasteless. B. Red-white and delicious. C. Round and sweet. D. Sharp and strange in shapes. 9. What played a role in starting the radish-carving tradition? A. Market public preferences. B. Long history of local wood carving. C. The city’s official food festival. D. Farmers’ need to sell cooked products. 10. What finally happens to the carved radishes after the festival? A. They are kept as long-term decorations. B. They are re-carved for next competition. C. They are eaten by the owners and visitors. D. They are used to help the next radishes grow. 11. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. A Unique Mexican Cultural Festival B. How to Make Beautiful Radish Arts C. The History of Oaxaca’s Vegetable Trade D. How Mexicans Celebrate Winter Holidays D To visitors, Venice is a beautiful picture of historic buildings, waterways, bell towers, red roofs and a large winged lion, the symbol of the city, standing on the buildings across the city. Possibly the most famous lion is a bronze (青铜) statue standing in the Piazzetta near St. Mark’s Square, and now, researchers think the statue was made in China over 1,000 years ago. After examining a series of nine samples from the famous lion statue using a scientific method, the researchers from northern Italy’s University of Padua narrowed down the derivation of the bronze to the Yangtze River in China. This, they said, would explain why the 4-meter-long and 2.2-meter-high statue, once thought to be made locally, had a strange style. According to the researchers, although it was placed near St. Mark’s Square in the 13th century, the lion looks far more like the artwork produced in China during the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD) than that found in medieval Mediterranean Europe. They argue that the shape of the lion and marks left by removing its old horns (角) have certain features. “It is possible that Marco Polo’s father and uncle, during the four years they spent at the palace of Kublai Khan, a powerful ruler of China at that time, on their first journey along the Silk Road, found the lion statue and managed to ship it back to Venice in pieces,” the researchers said, adding that the visit probably took place between 1264 and 1268. The animal was actually a zhènmùshòu — a big, strong, lion-like tomb protector from the Tang Dynasty. Once the Polos sent the statue back to Italy, it was probably changed to look like the symbol of St. Mark. Local workers took off its horns and added a “wig (假发)”. “As the written information is confusingly absent (缺少), the purpose and methods behind the lion’s journey to Venice remain unclear and open to explanation. If the establishment of the ‘Lion’ was meant to send a strong political message, we can now consider it as a symbol of how connected the medieval world was,” the researchers added. 12. Which of the following words can replace the underlined word “derivation” in paragraph 2? A. Application. B. Origin. C. Document. D. Evidence. 13. Why does the lion look unusual? A. It was made of special materials. B. Its size is beyond normal standards. C. It bears ancient Chinese artistic styles. D. It was designed for local religious use. 14. How was the statue changed after arriving in Venice? A. Its body size was adjusted. B. Its material was partly replaced. C. It was painted in bright colors. D. Its original shape was redesigned. 15. What can we infer about the statue’s story? A. Its origin has no room for further debate. B. Its return route is confirmed in old books. C. Its journey details still lack clear records. D. Its political meaning has been fully proved. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 A “digital footprint (足迹)” is basically your entire online presence (存在). My friend Laura lifted her fork to begin eating before I interrupted (打断) her, “Wait, can I take a picture for my blog?” She sighed, “Go ahead.” I took out my phone and took the picture. Then, I spent the next thirty seconds deciding on how to make a perfect post. By the time our ice cream dessert came around, I was getting ready to take my fifth picture of the night. Laura rolled her eyes. I quickly had a shot of the dessert before asking her, “Sorry, am I bothering (打扰) you by taking pictures?” “I’m not going to lie. It’s a little annoying,” she said. I put away the phone, a little bit embarrassed, and decided to just enjoy our dinner. While we chatted over dessert, her statement lingered (逗留) in the back of my mind. It wasn’t until I reached home that I really thought over the issue. Did taking pictures of my life to show someone whom I hardly spoke to make me happy? Well, I was certain that my feeling was beyond words when my post gained over twenty likes. It felt good; it felt like I won. But, what was the prize? I looked through the stream of photos that I had posted of Laura and me. Most were of our time spent at fine restaurants or the latest attractions near our city, and the brand-name gifts we bought each other on holidays. Well, when my post gained over twenty likes, it felt good. The reasons are as follows. Firstly, the melody is simple and beautiful, so it’s easy to learn. Secondly, the lyrics express sincere but common emotions, which will surely touch the audience directly and deeply. What’s more, this song is very popular worldwide, and it always gets warm applause. I’m sure you’ll love it. Hope my suggestion helps. Wish you a fantastic performance! Good luck! Yours, Li Hua 第二节(满分25分) 【47题答案】 【答案】参考范文: I called Laura that night and first expressed my sincere sorry to her. “I’m really sorry about the pictures tonight. I had a good time with you but I think it could have been better if I just didn’t take any pictures,” I admitted to her. “Don’t worry about it. It’s honestly okay,” she replied. “No, it’s not. I’ve been thinking about it all night. I don’t want social media to bother me or even bother you. I actually came up with a good idea.” “Really? What’s this big idea?” “How about doing something meaningful for at least the next year?” I answered. “Like what?” Laura inquired, her interest clearly engaged. “Let’s explore new hobbies, volunteer in our community, and spend quality time with each other without the distraction of social media.” She paused for a moment, considering the proposal. “I think that’s a fantastic idea. Let’s do it. It’s time we took control of our experiences and not let social media decide how we enjoy our time together.” I smiled and said, “Good night, Laura. Let’s start tomorrow.” 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
