Several years ago,I was addicted to personal bests (PBs).I treated every run as a never-ceasing
battle against time with my GPS watch serving as my judge.Failure seemed certain unless I hit the target
pace while success merely fueled the urge to map out how to go faster next time.
It was two years before this means of running brought out multiple physical discomforts in me.
Then a major injury-my broken ankle-sidelined me for three months, forcing me to switch to long,
unhurried walks in the nearby park-no watch,no headphones and just the rhythm of my footsteps. It
came as a revelation:I noticed the golden color of dusk filtering through oak leaves, the laughter of
children echoing from the playground and the smell of freshly baked bread floating from a nearby bakery.
When I returned to running,I resolved to abandon the addiction to PBs,opting for a pace gentle
enough to allow off-key singing without breathing heavily.I joined a social running group, where we
paused to pet dogs and share weekly stories. Then trail running, where roots and rocks demand full
attention to footing rather than speed, became my new pursuit.Initially,it felt odd, like I was cheating,
casting me into a mild state of disquiet with this unaccustomed pace.Soon, this shift brought clarity.
One Saturday dawn,an aimless run led me to a reservoir. As I watched the sunlight sparkling on the
water,I realized I hadn't checked my electronic watch even once-no thoughts of pace or distance, just
pure pleasure in running. That's when it hit me:The essence of running doesn't lie in pursuing data but
in fully inhabiting the present, embracing surrounding delights and connecting with my body, nature and
the world. That, indeed,is the greatest personal best of all. Now,I run to unwind after a long workday,to
bond with friends and to witness sunrises.Occasionally I race at full speed, only when it feels fulfilling,
not driven by a device and letting go of the need to prove myself.

Have you ever faced a very hard task?Maybe it was a big test,a speech,or a difficult project.
This happens to everyone.A wise woman named Carol Gilligan once said,"Where there is
resistance(抵制),there is obstacle(障a碍);where there is acceptance,the obstacle disappears.”This
sounds strange, doesn't it?How can just accepting a problem make it go away? The answer lies in
how our minds work.
Resistance is when we fight against reality. For example,if you are afraid of math and don't
want to practice, you are resisting. This makes the problem seem bigger and scarier.Your mind gets
stuck in worry and fear, wasting energy that you could use to solve the problem.Studies show that
this stress makes it harder to think clearly.
Acceptance is different. It means looking at the problem clearly and saying,"Okay, this is hard,
but I can handle it."You don't judge yourself for finding it difficult. This stops the emotional
rollercoaster ()When you accept that a task is hard, you can stop worrying and start making
a plan. For instance,if you accept that math takes time to learn, you can take it step by step. The
fear goes away, and the problem becomes smaller. This idea works in many areas of life.An athlete
who accepts being nervous can use that energy to focus.A student who accepts making mistakes
can learn faster.Changing from resistance to acceptance is a skill. You can learn it by calming
down and making a plan.
So,next time you face a hard thing,remember Gilligan's words.Take a deep breath,accept the
feeling, and start working. You will find that the obstacle is not as big as it seemed.
28.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.Ignoring challenges to save energy.
B.Avoiding challenges to reduce stress.
C.Fearing challenges to stay motivated.
D.Accepting challenges to overcome them.
29.What happens when we resist a difficult task?
A.We solve it quickly with focus.
B.We feel calm and ready to act.
C.We learn new skills to handle it.
D.We waste energy on worry and fear.
30.What does acceptance allow us to do?
英语试卷
A.Plan and take action effectively.
B.Avoid the task completely.
C.Feel more stressed about the task.
D.Doubt our ability to succeed.
31.What is the author's purpose in writing this passage?
A.To show that resistance is always better.
B.To describe how to avoid difficult tasks.
C.To encourage readers to accept challenges.
D.To explain why challenges are impossible.

Scientists in Australia have used Artificial Intelligence (AI)to help them locate a rare bird called
the Plains-wanderer.This new information will help scientists protect the birds, which are endangered.
The Plains-wanderer is a small bird that lives in Australia's grasslands. The birds were once
common in eastern Australia, but that's changed,as grasslands have been turned into farms and cities.
Zoos Victoria, the group behind the recent effort to locate Plains-wanderers,says the birds'numbers
have fallen by over 85%in recent decades.Scientists believe there are now only 250 to 1,000 of the birds
left in the wild.
Zoos Victoria says,"There is no bird like it in the world."The odd little birds are only about six
inches (15 centimeters)tall. They spend most of their time on the ground. When they feel threatened,
they crouch down to hide and they normally choose to run away rather than fly.
One thing that makes Plains-wanderers unusual is that the females are larger, and are in charge of
protecting the territory. The male birds are smaller and take care of the eggs.
To protect these rare birds, scientists first had to learn where they were.So Zoos Victoria worked
with Queensland University of Technology on a plan to locate the birds.Since Plains-wanderers are hard
to spot, the team chose to"listen"for the birds instead.
Female Plains-wanderers make an unusual "Ooom"call, and this was the key to locating them. The
researchers set up 35 special recording devices called"song meters"in nine different grassy areas where
Plains-wanderers could possibly have been.Song meters record all the sounds made in an area over a
long period of time.
The song meters collected tens of thousands of hours of recordings far more than humans could
analyze. So the researchers fed the recordings to an AI system trained to identify the calls of Plains-
wanderers.
Then the aI system will locate the birds and the new information it provides will help scientists
protect the birds.
32.What has made the number of Plains-wanderers fall?
A.Climate change.
B.People's hunting.
C.The loss of their habitat.
D.Environmental pollution.
33.What can we learn about Plains-wanderers?
A.They are large in size.
B.They're not good at flying.

C.They have excellent hearing.
D.They mainly live on the water.
34.What's the purpose of song meters?
A.To collect Plains-wanderers'sounds.
B.To analyze Plains-wanderers'sounds.
C.To promote Plains-wanderers'growth.
D.To observe Plains-wanderers'activities.
35.What would be the best title for the text?
A.AI System Has Been Used to Feed Rare Birds

Preserving cultural and historical heritage isn't just the job of experts, institutions,or
governments. It's the responsibility of the entire community, and it starts with the youngest among
us.36 They are passed down through generations. To ensure these stories continue,we must
give young people a sense of ownership. Here are some effective ways.
Make local culture part of daily lessons. The first and most influential place where children
begin to understand their heritage is at school.By making local culture part of daily lessons,
educators can foster a deep appreciation for their roots.37 One fun week of local songs, food,
and stories seeds lifelong pride.
38 Storytelling is a powerful way to spread culture and history. We can organize
"storytelling days"where grandparents, uncles, aunts, and community elders share family stories,
folk tales, and cultural legends. This fosters respect for elders while giving young people a personal
connection to their heritage.
Encourage responsibility through family heritage.Encouraging families to share their histories
and traditions can cultivate a lasting sense of responsibility for cultural preservation.Families can
continue or revive traditions such as cooking special meals together, participating in cultural
ceremonies,or learning traditional dances.39
Use technology to connect the past and future. In the digital age, technology can be a powerful
tool in helping young people understand their heritage.40 They allow young people to
experience heritage firsthand. This digital preservation builds a meaningful bridge to the future.
A.Encourage spoken traditions and storytelling.
B.Document oral histories with families together.

Mark and Elena were finally in their seats. They had been looking forward to this trip to Rome for
months, saving every cent they could. As the plane took off,the steady hum of the engines seemed to
promise a long, peaceful flight.Elena put on her sleep mask, and Mark adjusted his headphones, ready to
watch a movie and relax."We finally made it,honey,"Mark said, leaning back with a sigh of relief.
But the peace didn't last long.Just after the pilot tured off the seat belt sign,a baby began to cry in
the row behind them.It wasn't just a soft whimper ()it was a loud, sharp cry that echoed through
the small cabin.Mark took off his headphones and frowned. He looked at his watch and then at Elena,
his face showing his frustration.Around them, other passengers were starting to whisper and glance back
with annoyed expressions. The calm mood of the flight had disappeared.
Removing the sleep mask,Elena turned around and saw a young woman traveling alone. She
looked completely exhausted. With one hand, she was trying to rock the baby, and with the other, she
was searching through a messy bag for something. In her hurry, she accidentally dropped the pacifier(
)which rolled down the aisle and stopped right at Mark's feet. The baby cried even louder.
Mark stared at the pacifier."I can't believe this,"he muttered, reaching for the call button to
complain to the flight attendant. He felt that after paying so much for the tickets,he deserved a quiet

“Do you need help?” Elena asked, handing the pacifier back to the woman. The young mother looked up, her eyes red and tired. “I’m so sorry for the noise,” she said quietly. “It’s just—he won’t stop crying, and I can’t find his milk.” Elena smiled warmly. “Let me hold him for a moment while you get organized.” Carefully, she took the baby, gently rocking him in her arms. To everyone’s surprise, the baby slowly calmed down, his crying fading into soft breaths.
Mark’s frustration melted away as he saw how Elena cared for the baby. Watching his wife patiently hum, he felt a shift within himself. He unbuckled his seat belt and turned to the mother. “Do you need some warm water?” he offered. The woman nodded gratefully. Soon, other passengers joined in—offering a blanket or snacks. The cabin, once filled with annoyance, now felt warm and connected. Mark smiled at Elena. Sometimes, a little kindness could change everything.

M: You’ve aroused my curiosity. Tell me more.
W: The organization was co-founded by high school seniors Peyton Beeli and Alexa King.
M: Amazing. Why do they have such an idea?
W: Alexa’s little sister, Chloe, has a complex genetic disorder that primarily affects the nervous system, causing delayed development and other issues. Alexa and Peyton struggled to find places where Chloe could interact with others in a comfortable and safe environment. They saw a need in the community, not just for Chloe but for all kids with diverse needs.
M: I must say teens are making a difference.

W: Actually, I’ve moved into a furnished two-bedroom flat in a three-story building near our campus. I only have a short commute to the teaching building.
M: That’s great. How much is the rent?
W: 500 pounds a month, including water and electricity.

【原文】W: Dear listeners, welcome to Life Tips. For today’s show we have Dr. Lee, an expert on relationships. Dr. Lee, many struggle with people-pleasing habits—what’s the first step to changing?
M: Self-care is key. Be aware of what you need on a moment-by-moment basis. For example, notice when you’re hungry, tired or feeling anxious about others’ expectations. After you can recognize these more basic needs, you can start working toward recognizing what you need and value on a bigger scale.
W: People-pleasers frequently mention they can’t say “no” about other’s request. It feels wrong.
M: It’s essential to grasp that declining a request doesn’t label you as bad or disappoint others. Avoid apologizing or making excuses. When faced with demands, take time to assess your capabilities and what you prioritize. Before agreeing to any request, evaluate requests thoughtfully.
W: So, how do people-pleasers set boundaries?
M: Begin by reflecting on your personal values and limits. With a clear understanding of these elements, you can communicate your boundaries to others.
W: Thanks, Dr. Lee. That’s really valuable for our listeners.
M: My pleasure.

【原文】W: Good morning, everyone. Today, my presentation will focus on the preparation for a college interview. After you have applied for a college you are interested in, there is a possibility that you need to prepare for an interview before the college considers you qualified. There are two ways you can practice your interviewing skills and responses. The first is by doing interview practice with others who are also applying. Interview practices, I think, are a good first step to understanding what an interview will be like. Your interview partner can tell you which responses are convincing and why. Now, let’s come to the second way. If possible, you can get an interview first with a school that matters less to you. This allows you to develop and refine your interview skills and get rid of your first interview nerves without too much mistakes. I think that it is a good idea to use both approaches from time to time if you can. Then you are going to benefit from those experiences in a real interview. OK. Next, I will focus on questions during interviews, both general and specific that you are required to get ready for before an interview.
