Once upon a time, a young man was standing in the middle of the town announcing that he had the most beautiful heart in the world. A large crowd listened, and they all praised his heart for it was perfect. Suddenly, an old man appeared and said, “Why? Your heart is not as beautiful as mine.”
The old man’s heart was full of scars (伤疤). Some pieces of it were taken away and some pieces from other people were put in, but they didn’t fit quite right. So there were several jagged edges (锯齿状的边缘). In fact, there were still some holes in his heart where the pieces were missing.
The young man laughed, “Comparing yours with mine, mine is perfect and yours is a mess.”
“Yes,” said the old man. “But every scar shows that I took out a piece of my heart and gave it to another person, and he gave me a piece of his heart in return.”
“Why do you have some jagged edges in your heart?” asked the young man.
“Because the shapes of the pieces weren’t the same.”
“Then the holes?”
“Sometimes I gave pieces of my heart away, and the other person hasn’t given back a piece of his, so…but I don’t care.”
“How come?”
They remind me of the love we shared.”
The young man understood something more important. He walked up to the old man, took a piece of his heart out and gave it to the old man.
The old man placed it in his heart, then took a piece from his old scarred heart and placed it in the wound in the young man’s heart. It fitted, but not perfectly, as there were some jagged edges.
The young man looked at his heart, not perfect any more but more beautiful than ever.
How sad it must be to go through life with a whole untouched heart!
24.Why did the young man stand in the middle of the town?
A.In order to meet the old man. B.To compare his heart with others.

26.The old man said “…but I don’t care” means ______.
A.he couldn’t find the person B.he didn’t feel painful
C.he didn’t love the person D.he didn’t expect others’ return
27.What kind of heart shall we have if we can go through life happily?
A.A heart that is full of love. B.A heart that’s smart and beautiful.
C.A heart that is untouched. D.A heart that has too many wounds.

Many students may have the problem of time management (管理). They don’t know how to use their time better. Here are some great ways.
Do it now
If you can do something in two minutes, don’t delay (推迟)it. You may have to do it sooner or later, but plan (计划) to do it, remember to do it, and finally do it in the future. These will take five minutes or more. Do it now and you can save three minutes.
Use what you have
Think about all your little “pockets (口袋)” of time. We can make good use of our time, for example, when we take the bus or wait in line (排队). You can try remembering what you learn today. If you have free time, use it!
__________
Try brushing your teeth in the shower or eating breakfast while you get dressed. If you do two different things at the same time, you’ll be ready for school on time.
28.Which can you do when you take a shower?
A.Brush your teeth. B.Eat breakfast. C.Get dressed D.Go to school.
29.Which of the following example uses the “pockets” of time?
A.Parents make breakfast for you and it rains outside.
B.Lily reads books and his brother watches TV.
C.Tom remembers new words when he waits for the bus.
D.Bob plays football and Jack plays basketball.
30.Which of the following can be put into_________?
A.Do different things at the same time B.Brush your teeth in the shower
C.Be ready for school on time D.Make good use of our time
31.What is the writer’s main purpose (目的) in writing the text?

For more than a month, the world has been excited about a new AI model, DeepSeek-R1. It was developed by DeepSeek, a Chinese business based in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province.
The new AI was released on Jan 20. In just one week, it beat OpenAI’s ChatGPT and became the top free app in Apple’s App Store, reported Xinhua.
Its developer said that DeepSeek-R1 is as good at difficult tasks as other big models but needs less computing power (算力). It is also the cheapest of its kind and took only about 5.57million US dollars (40.58 million yuan) to develop. That is way less than the hundreds of millions or even billions that US businesses have had to spend on building similar AI models, Marc Andreessen, a technology expert in the US, told Xinhua.
DeepSeek-R1’s success largely came from its special training method. Traditionally, AI is trained in two ways. One is Chain-of-Thought (CoT, 思维链), where AI learns to break problems into smaller, simpler steps. The other is Supervised Fine-Tuning (SFT, 监督微调), which works by showing AI lots of practice problems along with the right answers for it to find a pattern.
DeepSeek-R1, however, used Reinforcement Learning (RL, 强化学习) as the core method, Xinhua reported. In RL, AI learns by trying different things. It gets rewards for correct actions and gets punished for mistakes. For example, in a game, it gets points for picking up rubbish and loses points for breaking a glass. Over time, it works out the best solution all by itself.
This is how DeepSeek-R1 has grown to be a reasoning model, which is a new type of AI, noted Microsoft engineer Vinayak Hegde. Regular AI models, like GPT-4o, usually just give direct answers. But reasoning models are trained to both think and show the process.
32.What does Paragraph 2 mainly say about DeepSeek-R1?
A.It’s free. B.It’s new. C.It’s popular. D.It’s special.
33.How does DeepSeek-R1 learn?
A.By breaking problems into smaller steps.
B.By finding the right patterns in practice problems.
C.By finding the right way to do things independently.
D.Dy following all kinds of orders from its creators.
34.How can the reasoning model be described?
A.It gives direct answers. B.It provides a lot of reasons.
C.It gives the best solution. D.It thinks and then decides.
35.What is the passage mainly about?
A.The application of DeepSeek-R1. B.The challenges faced by DeepSeek-R1.
C.The differences between AI models. D.The introduction to DeepSeek-R1.

Teens are putting on weight. Today most teenagers are at least one size larger than teens were 20 years ago. 36 Did you know that a small today used to be a medium 20 years ago?
Recent research shows 97% of teens need more exercise. It’s bad news because too little exercise means you are missing a lot of good things in life. 37 Students who are healthy can listen and understand better in class.
First, exercise helps your body. Physical activity can make your body strong. It can also keep you at a healthy weight. Doctors say that people who stay at a healthy weight have fewer health problems.
Second, exercise can help your mind. People who get plenty of physical activity might worry less and sleep better at night. 38
You can change your life and be more active at any point. 39 Step away from the screen. You should have no more than two hours of screen time a day. You will enjoy life more if you live it instead of watching it!
Start slowly. An hour a day can seem like a long time. Start with 10 minutes of new activities every day. 40
Make fitness fun. Find a sport you like. It doesn’t need to be the traditional sports of basketball, soccer, or baseball. Those are all great sports and if you like them, play them. However, you can also try hiking, skateboarding, or even rope jumping. If you enjoy the sport, you will do it.

How to Improve Myself
Life is really a long lesson, so I have to improve myself.
First, I need to exercise one hour every day. It is bad to stay at home and play games for a long time. Second, I should be responsible for myself and my family. I should be independent instead of depending on my parents too often. Third, in the face of problems, I have to take up the challenges and work them out rather than run away from them. Next, I will develop my interest in many things, such as playing basketball instead of being interested in nothing.
I think if I do like these, my future will be bright.
