Villages in China have enjoyed their development in a digital way in recent years.
6 Farming in the past was not an easy job. Farmers worked hard all year round. At the same time, they usually found it difficult to solve problems like plant diseases and pests.
7 For example, in Dayi County, Sichuan Province, there are 13 digital farms with AI machines. These machines help local farmers know when and how to fertilize (施肥) and kill pests. In this way, they make farmers work more easily with less time and energy.
Thanks to the internet, a new business called rural ecommerce (乡村电子商务) has grown. 8 In the past, it was hard for people in cities to know what villagers planted. Now, they can buy farm products easily over the phone. 9 They can get many things done on different kinds of apps.
10 A good example is Huacheng Town, Guangdong Province. To let more people know about its culture and attract more visitors, it has turned into a “digital town”. Visitors can find out where to park their cars for free, when to book a ticket easily and what to buy online. They can also enjoy the view of nearly every part of the town by using VR.
A.Now, there have been big changes in farming.
B.The business also helps villagers live a digital life.

Helping others is not only a nice quality, but also a wonderful way to help ourselves grow and become better. Many teenagers are willing to show kindness and help people in need around them, but they really don’t know what meaningful things they can do in daily life. 111
Sometimes you don’t need to do great or surprising things to help others. Small and simple acts of kindness can also make a big difference to someone’s life. 112 For example, give your seat to the old or the disabled on the bus, offer a hand to your classmates with difficult schoolwork, or help clean up the neighbourhood in your free time.
Being a good listener is also a valuable way to help and care for others. When your friends feel sad, upset or lonely, don’t just stay silent or ignore their feelings. 113 Sometimes people do not need much advice; they only need someone to listen to them patiently and understand their inner feelings.
114 Learning to respect and care for people with special needs is very important in our life. We should not laugh at or look down on people with disabilities. Instead, we should treat them politely and equally, and give them a hand quietly when they run into trouble in daily life.
Kindness is always around us. It does not take much money or too much spare time. 115 Start from small little things every day, and you will find the world is full of warmth and kindness.
A.Just talk with them and share their feelings.
B.Here are some simple ways for you.

Volunteers are probably some of the most overlooked (被忽视的) people. 121 This month, I volunteered at the Color Run in Melbourne. Although I didn’t have as much fun as the runners, I still learned an important lesson.
My job was to give a high-five to every runner at the finish line. 122 When the first runner passed, we reached out our hands and yelled “Good job” excitedly. However, as more and more people crossed the finish line and touched their hands with mine, my arm got sore. To make things worse, it became hotter. Our clothes were all wet because of the sweat (汗) and we felt tired. But soon we saw a group of kids running toward us — they were about 6 years old. 123 They put up their hands and said, “High-five!”
At that moment, I was quite touched — they were so young, and they refused to give up. 124 I clapped (拍) their hands, “Well done, little guys!”
That is the meaning of being a volunteer. It is not an easy job. 125 Even if such spirit is not often found in daily life, it can encourage us a lot when we do see it occasionally.

In a world where many people are fighting with challenges, charity has become more necessary than ever. 131
It gives us a chance to care about their feelings and take action to support them.
Charity helps solve problems. Some charities offer food to hungry families. Some build schools in poor areas. 132 For example, after earthquakes or floods, charity groups often arrive first to save lives.
Never worry that your actions are too small to matter. Small actions can lead to big differences. A simple act like giving directions for a lost tourist, is part of building a caring world. 133 Anyone can join charity work, no matter his age, job, or social role. Students might collect books for children, and teachers can give free lessons. Even young kids can join by drawing cards for sick people in hospitals. Their smiles show that charity is joyful for helpers too!
134 When people work closely with each other, they may feel a sense of belonging (归属感). Let’s take cleaning a park with others as an example. People not only make a tidier and cleaner environment for visitors, but also get the chance to feel like a family. Last year, my school raised $500 for a children’s hospital by selling handmade crafts. We learned teamwork and kindness at the same time!
Charity also makes us better people. 135 Helping others allows us to better understand their difficulties and build our own patience. Let’s start today. Share your lunch with a friend, help an elderly neighbour, or donate old clothes. Remember that kindness grows when we pass it on.
A.Charity means helping people in need.
B.It builds up our personalities and values.
C.It’s not only the powerful who can do charity.
D.Giving directions for a foreigner is not an easy task.
E.Others are especially helpful to people facing natural disasters.

Kids and teenagers who volunteer aren’t just helping their community. They might also be helping themselves. 136 It found that volunteering through school or community groups is connected with better wellness among children and teens.
Kids who took part in community service were 34% more likely to be in good physical health than those who didn’t, the study found. And those who volunteered were 66% more likely to be considered doing well in general. Kids aged 12 and older who volunteered were 25% less likely to have anxiety (焦虑) than those who didn’t. The findings come from survey data (数据) provided by the parents of 50, 000 kids in the United States ages 6 to 17. 137
Studies like this have limitations (局限性). Parents answered questions about their kids’ health and community service activities. But a parent might not know if their children experience anxiety or consider themselves to be healthy. 138 It can only uncover connections. So it’s impossible to say for sure that volunteering leads to better mental (精神的) and physical health.
139 In recent years, more and more young people are suffering from anxiety. So there’s a clear need for convenient and useful mental health resources. Giving back to the community may be one such resource. Previous research has also found connections between volunteering and well-being among adults. Serving the community seems to help people feel a sense of purpose. 140 Generosity (慷慨) has also been shown to boost (提升) happiness and improve physical health. It might be a practice worth developing.
A.This type of data also can’t prove cause and effect.
B.Most of the kids showed great interest in the survey.
C.And it makes them feel connected to those around them.
D.But the data comes at an important time for youth mental health.
E.About half of those parents reported that their kids did volunteer work.
F.That’s according to a new research published in JAMA Network Open, in May.
【答案】136.F 137.E 138.A 139.D 140.C
136.根据上文“Kids and teenagers who volunteer aren’t just helping their community. They might also be helping themselves.”
137.根据上文“The findings come from survey data (数据) provided by the parents of 50, 000 kids in the United States ages 6 to 17.”
138.根据上文“But a parent might not know if their children experience anxiety or consider themselves to be healthy.” 故选A。
139.根据上文“It can only uncover connections. So it’s impossible to say for sure that volunteering leads to better mental or physical health.” 下文“In recent years, more and more young people are suffering from anxiety.”
140.根据上文“Serving the community seems to help people feel a sense of purpose.”

A sea turtle swims through the water and sees a white object near the surface. Then the turtle eats it for dinner. But it’s a plastic bag that could make the sea turtle sick. Over 700 kinds of sea animals have eaten or been caught in plastic. Scientists think that plastic waste in the ocean will continue to increase. 146
What’s the problem with plastic?
First, we should know not all plastic is bad. 147 For example, we sometimes use plastic bottles and straws (吸管) to drink water.
The problem is that some people throw plastic objects everywhere, like plastic bags, bottles and straws. This kind of plastic is called single-use plastic. 148
Where does the plastic go?
According to scientists, tons of plastic go into the ocean every year. Plastic waste on the ground is often blown into rivers, and finally ends up in the ocean. 149 As a result, it stays in the ocean. That means useless fishing nets and plastic rings can catch animals; harmful straws and plastic bags can be eaten as food.
What can we do about it?
150 We can record the use of plastic products in our family for a week. Then we can talk about what we can do to use less. By working together, we can help save animals and the ocean they live in.
A.It can’t be broken down in nature.
B.Then these objects become plastic waste.
C.Many sea animals mistake plastic for food.
D.We need some plastic objects in our daily lives.
E.Small actions make a great difference to sea animals.

On 22 May this year, after 8 years of hard talks, more than 190 countries agreed to a new global agreement—the City Biodiversity Agreement. It is the first global agreement that focuses on protecting biodiversity in cities. 151
Cities cover only about 3% of the Earth’s land, but they are home to more than half of the world’s population. 152 Healthy urban biodiversity can make cities greener, reduce air pollution, and make people’s lives healthier and happier.
153 The number of wild animals and plants in cities has dropped by 30% in the past 20 years. Too many buildings have replaced green spaces. Light and noise pollution have driven away many wild animals. Pollution has killed many plants and small living things in cities.
In 1992, the first global biodiversity agreement was made, but it focused more on wild areas outside cities. 154 The new agreement sets a clear goal: by 2030, 30% of the area in every city will be green space for wild animals and plants. 155 It also requires cities to reduce light and noise pollution, and to build special paths for wild animals to move around safely.
A.But the biodiversity in cities is in great danger now.
B.And it’s a great step forward to protect urban biodiversity around the world.
C.They are also important homes for many kinds of wild animals and plants.
D.So most cities didn’t pay much attention to protecting their own biodiversity before.
E.That is because different countries have different ideas about how to protect biodiversity.
F.It also asks cities to stop cutting down trees to build more buildings.

C项“They are also important homes for many kinds of wild animals and plants.”用“also”与前文“home to more than half of the world’s population”并列,指出城市也是野生动植物的家园,自然引出后文生物多样性的重要性。
A项“But the biodiversity in cities is in great danger now.”
D项“So most cities didn’t pay much attention to protecting their own biodiversity before.”
F项“It also asks cities to stop cutting down trees to build more buildings.”

China is a country with a long history. It has great traditional culture. Among the Chinese classics, The Book of Songs (《诗经》) and Historical Records (《史记》) are two of the most important works. 61
The Book of Songs, also known as Shijing, is the earliest collection of poetry in China. 62 This book not only describes people’s daily life, but also teaches people to be honest and strong.
Among all the poems in this book, my favorite is called Homecoming after the War (《采薇》). This poem mainly talks about how soldiers had to leave their homes to fight for many years.
114 Learning to respect and care for people with special needs is very important in our life. We should not laugh at or look down on people with disabilities. Instead, we should treat them politely and equally, and give them a hand quietly when they run into trouble in daily life.
