Is it true that using online shopping really makes our lives easier while it is changing our habits? Picture this: You want to buy a new schoolbag, so you open an app on your phone. Before you choose one, many ads keep popping up. A message from your friend appears. Your mother calls you to help in the kitchen. You forget what you were looking for and order something you don’t even need. Later, you find out it’s too late to return it.
Online shopping has brought speed and convenience, but it also brings new problems. Many people buy things they don’t need, and some even spend too much time searching for the “best price”. Why do you think some people prefer buying things in small local stores? Perhaps it is because shopping there is simple and calming.
A family in Australia decided to try “a month without online shopping”. The parents and their daughter, Ella, 12, gave up all shopping apps. They could only buy things from local shops or make things themselves.
The mother, Anna, said, “Without online shopping, we saved more money and time.” Ella said she spent more time doing homework and playing outside. “It feels good not to think about buying things all the time,” she said.

A.One week. B.Two weeks. C.Three weeks. D.Four weeks.
22.What’s the best title for the text?
A.The Trouble Behind Online Shopping
B.Two Online Shopping Lovers in Australia
C.Why People Prefer Buying Things Online
D.The Most Popular Shops in Australia
C
When living or travelling in another country, we notice the differences between cultures before seeing the similarities. At first, some differences are easy to notice. Over time, however, there are some surprising similarities between how people in the UK and China communicate. Indeed, people in both countries often complain about having to read what local people really mean, because it is often different from what is said.
In the UK, outsiders often get confused when they realize that a person saying something rude is actually showing love. In situations like this, context (语境) is everything. In China, outsiders must infer most meaning from context and from what is not said, rather than from what is said. You also need to read between the lines. Otherwise, misunderstandings may happen.
Both the British and Chinese try to avoid conflict (冲突), which greatly influences how people communicate. The British will do everything to avoid conflict. For example, they will probably tell the waiter it was lovely even when they are served with poor quality food. In business, a British business partner who is deeply unhappy with your plan will probably say “there are just a couple of small problems.”
Chinese communication shows a very similar way of preventing conflict. They often avoid talking about challenges, mistakes, or problems directly. Instead, people talk about working towards further goals, rather than directly say that the situation is far from satisfactory. Chinese people like to keep a sense of harmony (和谐) within all environments, and so avoid open criticism (批评) of each other. For example, instead of saying a person is rude, a Chinese person might say he is “very confident”. In this sense, the British and Chinese can understand each other better because both value harmony.
23.What does the phrase “read between the lines” mean in Paragraph 2?
A.To read every word carefully. B.To understand the hidden meaning.
C.To write between two lines of text. D.To translate a foreign language.
24.How do British and Chinese people communicate when they are unhappy with something?
A.They use indirect or polite words. B.They stay silent and say nothing.
C.They express their anger directly. D.They complain to a third person.
25.What can you infer when a British business partner says, “There are just a couple of small problems in your plan”?
A.He is very satisfied with the plan. B.He is unhappy with the whole plan.
C.The plan has two small problems. D.The plan can be carried out at once.
26.Which is the best title for the passage?
A.How to Avoid Conflict in Communication
B.Cultural Differences Between the UK and China
C.Similarities in British and Chinese Communication
D.The Importance of Guessing Meaning from Context
D
Recently, a fridge magnet (冰箱贴) made from the phoenix coronet (凤冠) of Empress Xiaoduan (孝端皇后) from the Ming Dynasty has become very popular on social media, drawing a large number of people to the gift shops of the National Museum of China in Beijing.
The phoenix coronet is one of the museum’s most famous things on show, which was once worn by Empress Xiaoduan. It is covered with many valuable things. This treasure is so important that it can’t be shown abroad.
“Over 80,000 magnets have been sold within just three months, helping the museum make over 10 million yuan,” said Liao Fei from the museum’s operation and development department (运营开发部) .
“These magnets are both beautiful and meaningful,” said a tourist who arrived at around 7 am.
According to the gift shop worker, the magnets are not exclusive to the museum, as you can also buy them online, but only a few are available each day.
Across China, museums have introduced cultural and creative products from their collections, with fridge magnets becoming the most popular product. As these products become more popular, they help people learn more about the treasures and museums.
However, museum workers hope that visitors will pay more attention to the museums and understand the deep culture within them, rather than just waiting in a long line, buying some products, taking a few photos and leaving.
27.What can we know about the phoenix coronet of Empress Xiaoduan?
A.It was made into fridge magnets and sold abroad.
B.It’s a common thing in the National Museum of China.

D.It is often shown in foreign countries.
28.What can we infer about the fridge magnets from Paragraph 3?
A.They are completely sold out in the museum.
B.They are not very popular on social media.
C.They have brought much money to the museum.
D.They are made of expensive special materials.
29.What does the underlined word “exclusive” in Paragraph 5 probably mean?
A.Only be sold. B.Very expensive. C.Easily be broken. D.Be well-known in.
30.What is the museum workers’ attitude towards the present way some visitors visit museums?
A.Satisfied. B.Uncertain. C.Worried. D.Supportive.

Good news for students in China! Many schools are making changes to their class breaks. Many primary and secondary schools in different Chinese cities have made class breaks longer, from 10 to 15 minutes, starting from 2025. 31 In the past, schools in China usually had 10-minute breaks between classes. This was not enough time for students, particularly those in tall buildings, to go outside and play. Sometimes, schools even stopped students from leaving the classroom during breaks for safety reasons.
Now, local education departments are trying to make school schedules better, so students can do at least 30 minutes of physical exercise every day. Cities like Beijing, Tianjin, and Qingdao have already made breaks longer. In Beijing, students now get longer breaks. 32 Primary kids still start and finish at the same time. Secondary school students just finish 5 minutes later.
Schools in Yunyan District and Nanming District, Guiyang, also have 15-minute breaks now. 33 Students must do at least 100 minutes of physical exercise at school each day. This helps them do more outdoor activities and socialize. The education department there also says no to starting classes too early and stopping students from doing things during breaks. 34
These changes are great for students’ health and happiness. More outdoor activities and exercise will make school life more fun and enjoyable!
A.But their school day doesn’t change much.
B.It wants to give break time back to the students.
C.Students don’t like to study in tall buildings during breaks.
D.They also make sure students have one P.E. class every day.

C.Why People Prefer Buying Things Online
D.The Most Popular Shops in Australia
【答案】19.D 20.B 21.D 22.A
【难度】0.65

21.第三段提到“A family in Australia decided to try ‘a month without online shopping’.”,一个月即四周。
22.全文围绕网购带来的问题展开,并以一个家庭尝试戒除网购的实验结果来支撑观点,因此最佳标题是“网购背后的麻烦”。
【答案】23.B 24.A 25.B 26.C
第二段提到“outsiders must infer most meaning from context and from what is not said... Otherwise, misunderstandings may happen”,前文指出,在中国,外来者需要从语境和没有说出来的内容中推断含义,而不是从字面表达的内容中理解,随后说“You also need to read between the lines”,并指出如果不这样做,就可能产生误解,由此可见,“read between the lines”与前文“infer meaning from what is not said”意思相近,都是指理解话语中隐含的、没有直接表达出来的意思。
24.由第三段“The British will do everything to avoid conflict”以及第四段“Chinese communication shows a very similar way of preventing conflict... avoid talking about challenges, mistakes, or problems directly”可知,英国人和中国人在对某事不满时都使用间接或礼貌的方式表达。
25.由第三段“a British business partner who is deeply unhappy with your plan will probably say ‘there are just a couple of small problems’”可知,当英国商业伙伴说“你的计划只有几个小问题”时,实际意思是“他对整个计划不满意”。
26.全文围绕英国人和中国人在沟通方式上的相似之处展开,尤其是在避免冲突、使用间接表达、重视和谐等方面,因此最佳标题为“Similarities in British and Chinese Communication(英国和中国沟通方式的相似之处)”。

28.根据第三段中“helping the museum make over 10 million yuan”(帮助博物馆创收超过1000万元)可知,这些冰箱贴为博物馆带来了巨大的经济收益。
29.根据第五段中“the magnets are not exclusive to the museum, as you can also buy them online”(这些磁铁并非博物馆独家销售,因为你也可以在网上购买)可知,既然网上也能买,说明"exclusive"在此处意为“独有的、仅在此销售的”。选项A“Only be sold”(仅被销售/独家销售)符合语境。
30.根据最后一段中“However, museum workers hope that visitors will pay more attention to the museums and understand the deep culture within them, rather than just…”(然而,博物馆工作人员希望游客能更多地关注博物馆并理解其中的深厚文化,而不是仅仅……)可知,工作人员对游客仅购物拍照就走的现象持担忧态度,希望有所改变。

Every year, about 800 climbers come to Mount Everest. These climbers leave the mountain covered 51 waste, including used ropes, tents, and oxygen tanks. As a result, the world’s highest mountain is also often referred to as 52 “world’s highest garbage dump”. In the past, Sherpas—Himalayan people with great climbing skills who acted as guides—carried the waste down the mountain. This job was very dangerous because there was a high risk 53 avalanches (雪崩). The Sherpas had to cross dangerous areas again and again. But officials have a new plan 54 solve the problem. Starting early this year, heavy-lifter drones have begun a big cleanup of Everest. One such drone, the FlyCart 30, can fly in strong winds 55 freezing temperatures. It can lift more than 500 pounds of waste per hour, a task that would take 14 people six hours. The drone helps a lot 56 it keeps people away from dangerous situations. The future of Everest looks cleaner and safer with this technology.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
Last week, our school did a survey about who students turn to first when they meet problems in study. Here are the results.
As the pie chart shows, 35% of students ask teachers for help first, which is the most popular choice.30% of students turn to their classmates, 20% choose their parents, and only 15% get help on the Internet.
Students like teachers best because they have much teaching experience and can explain things clearly. Classmates are also a good choice because they are of the same age and understand each other’s problems better.
In my opinion, asking teachers is a good choice for difficult problems. But we should try to solve problems by ourselves first to improve our thinking. The key is to keep a balance between asking for help and thinking by ourselves.

A.The Trouble Behind Online Shopping
B.Two Online Shopping Lovers in Australia
C.Why People Prefer Buying Things Online
D.The Most Popular Shops in Australia

A.It was made into fridge magnets and sold abroad.
B.It’s a common thing in the National Museum of China.

29.What does the underlined word “exclusive” in Paragraph 5 probably mean?

Good news for students in China! Many schools are making changes to their class breaks. Many primary and secondary schools in different Chinese cities have made class breaks longer, from 10 to 15 minutes, starting from 2025. 31 In the past, schools in China usually had 10-minute breaks between classes. This was not enough time for students, particularly those in tall buildings, to go outside and play. Sometimes, schools even stopped students from leaving the classroom during breaks for safety reasons.
