From the “Sultan of Swat” to the “Colossus of Clout,” no baseball player has been given more eye-catching names than Babe Ruth. But there’s one name for the legendary Babe you might not know: cancer (癌症) pioneer.
Ruth, born in February 1895, was the widely known king of baseball by his 30th birthday. By 1925, he had won four World Series and established himself as the sport’s most fearsome hitter.
But he was also famous as a heavy eater when he wasn’t on the field. On April 7, 1925, on the way to a game, Ruth told teammates he felt unwell and passed out. Later he had operations to remove one part of his intestine (肠道).
Less than a decade later, Ruth found himself back at the hospital in an even more terrible situation and was told he had cancer. Later that year, doctors suggested that Ruth take part in a medical test for an experimental drug (药物), which had only been tested on mice. Ruth, who didn’t want to know what drug he was receiving or why, agreed, making him one of the first patients anywhere to receive the special treatment.
Even though Ruth only lived another year, the method did lengthen his life, which was regarded a milestone in medicine. By 1998, 40 percent of patients with the same kind of cancer that Ruth developed, had a survival rate of five or more years.
Thanks to Ruth and other patients in the study, treatments are much more effective and specific today. “I realized that if anything was learned about that type of treatment, whether good or bad,” Ruth wrote in his book, “it would be of use in the future to the medical profession and maybe to a lot of people with my same trouble.”
24. What do Ruth’s many titles show?
A. His professional struggles. B. His personal experience.
C. His widespread popularity. D. His medical contributions.
25. What does the author suggest about Ruth’s health problem in 1925?
A. It led to his cancer battle. B. It was related to his eating habits.
C. It was solved by an operation. D. It resulted from the game stress.
26. What can be inferred about the cancer treatment Ruth got?
A. It was widely used on humans.
B. It was forced upon him against his will.
C. It lengthened his life by over five years.
D. It made a difference to later cancer patients.
27. Which of the following can best describe Babe Ruth?
A. Selfless and brave. B. Patient and helpful.
C. Gifted and determined. D. Hopeful and confident.

Dr.Chen has worked in a remote mountain clinic in Guizhou for 35 years. After graduating from medical school in his early twenties, he gave up a well-paid job in a big city hospital and returned to his hometown. At that time, the mountain village had no formal clinic, and villagers had to walk dozens of miles to see a doctor. Dr.Chen made up his mind to change this situation and serve the hometown he loved deeply.
One freezing winter night, a villager rushed to his small clinic with a torch, shouting for help. His 4-year-old daughter had a severe cough and difficulty breathing, and the mountain road was covered with thick snow. Without a moment’s hesitation, Dr.Chen grabbed his medical bag and set off with the villager, walking on the slippery mountain road in the dark.
The journey took three hours. When they finally reached the villager’s home, Dr.Chen was covered in snow and his hands were frozen stiff. But he immediately examined the child, gave her emergency treatment, and stayed by her side all night until her condition stabilized. The next morning, the child could breathe normally, and the villager knelt down to thank him with tears in his eyes.
Over the years,Dr.Chen has faced many moral dilemmas.Once, a pharmaceutical company offered him a large sum of money to prescribe their expensive but ineffective medicine. He rejected the offer firmly, saying, “A doctor’s duty is to cure patients, not to make money from their pain.” He always prescribes cheap and effective medicine for villagers, and even gives free treatment to poor families.
Now in his late fifties, Dr.Chen still walks the mountain roads every day with his medical bag. He has trained three young villagers to be basic medical workers, and he often tells them,“ Virtue is not a grand slogan, but every small choice we make to put others’ needs before our own.” His story has inspired many young people to come to the mountain village to serve the villagers.
28. Why did Dr. Chen give up the city hospital job?
A. He disliked the busy city life.
B. He wanted to serve his hometown villagers.
C. He was not used to working in big hospitals.
D. He wanted to earn more money in his hometown.
29. What does the underlined phrase “set off” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. Start a journey.
B. Put on warm clothes.
C. Lit a fire for warmth.
D. Made a phone call for help.
30. How did Dr. Chen respond to the pharmaceutical company’s offer?
A. He accepted it secretly.
B. He asked for a higher payment.
C. He turned it down firmly.
D. He reported the company to the government.
31. What can we learn from Dr. Chen’s story?
A. It is easy to be a good doctor in remote areas.
B. Virtue is reflected in daily actions and choices.
C. Money is the most important thing for a doctor.
D. All young people should work in remote areas.

In 2026, with the rapid development of digital technology, the way people celebrate Chinese traditional festivals has changed greatly. Digital red envelopes, cloud reunions and online festival activities have become more and more popular, especially among young people. However, some people worry that we are losing the traditional core of festivals while pursuing the convenience and novelty of digital forms. In my opinion, no matter how the forms of festival celebration change, we must keep the traditional core of festivals alive.
The traditional core of Chinese festivals is the soul of festival culture, which includes family affection, filial piety, unity and gratitude. These precious emotions and virtues are carried by various traditional festival customs. For example, the Spring Festival family reunion dinner is not just about eating delicious food, but about expressing the deep love and care between family members. The Double Ninth Festival’s custom of climbing mountains and visiting the elderly is to pass on the Chinese virtue of filial piety. If we only pursue digital forms and ignore these traditional cores, festivals will become empty and meaningless, just a simple holiday with no cultural connotation.
Keeping the traditional core of festivals alive is of great significance for the inheritance of Chinese excellent traditional culture. Traditional festivals are an important part of Chinese culture, carrying the historical memory, cultural identity and national emotion of the Chinese nation. In the 2026 national cultural inheritance campaign, traditional festival culture is listed as a key content, which fully shows the importance of protecting the traditional core of festivals. For teenagers, understanding and inheriting the traditional core of festivals can help them establish a correct cultural outlook and enhance their cultural confidence.
Of course, keeping the traditional core of festivals alive does not mean rejecting digital technology. On the contrary, we can combine digital technology with traditional festival culture and innovate festival celebration forms on the basis of keeping the traditional core. For example, we can have a cloud reunion with family and also make traditional festival food together via video call; we can send digital red envelopes and also write a handwritten greeting card to express sincere wishes. This “inheritance + innovation” model makes traditional festivals more in line with the lifestyle of modern people, and also makes the traditional core of festivals be passed on better.
In a word, traditional festivals are a precious spiritual wealth of the Chinese nation. In the digital age, we should take keeping the traditional core as the foundation, and use digital technology to enrich festival forms. Only in this way can Chinese traditional festival culture glow with new vitality and be inherited and developed from generation to generation.
32. What is people’s worry about modern festival celebrations in 2026?
A. Digital technology makes festival celebrations too expensive.
B. People are losing the traditional core of festivals while pursuing digital forms.
C. Online festival activities make people less interested in traditional customs.
D. Digital innovation makes all traditional festival customs disappear.
33. What is the traditional core of Chinese festivals mentioned in the passage?
A. Family affection, filial piety, unity and gratitude.
B. Convenience, novelty, diversity and popularity.
C. Celebration, reunion, food and entertainment.
D. History, culture, custom and inheritance.
34. Why is keeping the traditional core of festivals important for teenagers?
A. It can help them save more money on festival celebrations.
B. It can make them more interested in digital technology.
C. It can help them establish a correct cultural outlook and enhance cultural confidence.
D. It can let them know more about modern festival celebration forms.
35. What is the best title for this passage?
A. The Popular Digital Forms of Festival Celebrations in 2026.
B. We Should Keep the Traditional Core of Festivals in the Digital Age.
C. The Influence of Digital Technology on Chinese Traditional Festivals.
D. The Inheritance of Chinese Excellent Traditional Culture.

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
How to Practice Virtues in the Digital Age
In the digital age, we spend more and more time online, and moral choices are everywhere in our daily life — whether it’s chatting online, doing homework or shopping on social media. It’s important for us, especially teenagers, to know how to practice virtues like honesty, kindness and responsibility in the digital age. ____36____
____37____ Honesty is the basic virtue of being a person. When we do online homework or take online exams, we should never copy others’ answers or use search engines to cheat. When we communicate with others online, we should tell the truth and not spread rumors or fake news. Even if no one is watching us online, we should keep the bottom line of honesty.
Kindness is another important virtue we need to practice. ____38____ When we see others being cyberbullied online, we should not stand by and watch, but try to help them in a proper way. When our friends are in trouble and ask for help online, we should give them sincere advice instead of making fun of them. Small acts of kindness online can warm people’s hearts just like those in real life.
We also need to keep a sense of responsibility in the digital world. ____39____ We should be responsible for our own words and actions — don’t post harmful or inappropriate content online, and don’t comment on others randomly. We should also be responsible for the network environment — if we see fake news or harmful information, we can report it to the relevant platform in time.
Virtue is not a word that is far away from us, but it is reflected in every small choice we make.
____40____ As long as we keep honesty, kindness and responsibility in our hearts, we can practice virtues anytime and anywhere, whether in real life or in the digital world, and become a virtuous person.
A. Honesty is the first step to practice virtues online
B. Here are some practical suggestions for us to follow
C. We should use the internet to help others instead of hurting them
D. A virtuous person is loved and respected by everyone around him
E. Responsibility is the guarantee of building a good network environment
F. We can make more friends online by chatting with them every day
G. It doesn’t matter whether we practice virtues in real life or online

Last Friday, my math teacher announced that we would have a mid-term exam in two weeks. As soon as I heard the news, my heart sank (下沉). Math had always been my worst subject. I stayed up late every night doing exercises, but I still couldn’t understand many difficult problems. I felt so stressed and helpless that I didn’t want to talk to anyone at school.
When I got home after school that day, I didn’t greet my mom as usual. I threw my schoolbag on the sofa and rushed into my bedroom quietly. My mom, who was cooking in the kitchen, noticed my unusual behavior right away. She didn’t push me to talk but just knocked on my door gently with a cup of warm milk.
“Honey, would you like to drink some milk?” she asked softly. I didn’t reply. I just sat at my desk, staring at the math papers full of red marks. My eyes were filled with tears. I was afraid of letting my parents down and worried that I would fail the exam.
After a while, mom sat beside me silently. She gently wiped the tears off my face and said, “I know you’re tired and worried about the math exam. It’s okay to feel down, but you never give up easily, right?” I looked into her caring eyes and finally told her all my worries. Instead of blaming (责怪) me, mom smiled and held my hands.
“Everyone has difficult subjects, and it’s normal to meet setbacks (挫折) in study,” she said. “I’ll help you go over the math problems every evening. We will take it step by step. You are not alone in this.” Hearing my mom’s words, I felt a warm feeling spreading through my heart. From that day on, mom kept her promise.
Every night after dinner, she put aside her own things and sat with me to learn math. She explained every problem slowly and patiently, even if I asked the same question many times. When I wanted to give up, she always encouraged me to keep going. Gradually, I found math not so difficult as before.
The day of the mid-term exam finally came. As I walked into the classroom, I still felt a little nervous.

W: You know, I wish I hadn’t travelled to Europe, but had taken the great job I was offered. After I returned from Europe three weeks later, it was too late.
M: But my job makes me feel bad. Four years ago, the moment I started it, I disliked it. And nothing has changed.
W: You can look for a new job. I posted my application online last month and five companies telephoned me right away. And I accepted one of the job offers. It is just the job I want to do.
M: Really? Great! But for me right now, the problem is that I get a very good salary, and I’ve just bought a house. If I hadn’t bought the house, I would have been able to change the job without hesitation.

【原文】Traditional Chinese clothing has a long history and still influences our lives today. Hanfu is the traditional costume of the Han people. Its history can date back to more than 4,000 years ago. The clothes made of silk by Leizu, the wife of the Yellow Emperor, are considered to be the earliest examples of hanfu. It was then improved over several dynasties. By the Han Dynasty, hanfu finally became the national costume of the country.
The qipao developed from the robe that was worn by Manchu women during the Qing Dynasty. It would later go on to develop into different styles in Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong. Beijing-style qipaos have brighter colours and more decorations. Shanghai⁃style qipaos are influenced by Western fashion in their designs. And qipaos in Hong Kong have shorter sleeves and simpler decorations.
The Tang suit was developed from the horse coat of Manchu men from the Qing Dynasty. Traditional Tang suits usually have Chinese characters on them to express good luck, such as “fu” and “shou”. Nowadays, people usually wear this costume during special festivals and important events.

【答案】24. C 25. B 26. D 27. A

【24题详解】
细节理解题。文章第一段“From the ‘‘Sultan of Swat’’ to the ‘‘Colossus of Clout,’’ no baseball player has been given more eye-catching names than Babe Ruth.(从“重击苏丹”到“力量巨擘”,没有哪一位棒球运动员能比贝比・鲁斯拥有如此多亮眼的称号。)”及第二段“Ruth, born in February 1895, was the widely known king of baseball by his 30th birthday.(鲁斯出生于1895年2月在30岁时,就已是享誉盛名的棒球之王。)”可知,Ruth的诸多头衔如都是棒球领域对他的赞誉,说明他在棒球界的知名度极高,受到广泛认可和欢迎。故选C项。
【25题详解】

Later he had operations to remove one part of his intestine.(但赛场之外,他也因暴饮暴食出了名。
文章第五段“Even though Ruth only lived another year, the method did lengthen his life, which was regarded a milestone in medicine. By 1998, 40 percent of patients with the same kind of cancer that Ruth developed, had a survival rate of five or more years.(尽管鲁斯只又活了一年,但这种疗法确实延长了他的生命,这在医学上被视为一个里程碑。到1998年,患有与鲁斯所患同种癌症的患者中,有40%的人存活了五年或更长时间。)”和第六段“Thanks to Ruth and other patients in the study, treatments are much more effective and specific today.(多亏了鲁斯以及参与这项研究的其他患者,如今针对这类癌症的治疗方法变得更加有效、更具针对性。)”

【答案】32. B 33. A 34. C 35. B

【答案】36. B 37. A 38. C 39. E 40. G

【38题详解】
空后“When we see others being cyberbullied online, we should not stand by and watch, but try to help them in a proper way.(当我们看到他人在网上遭受网络欺凌时,我们不应袖手旁观,而应以适当的方式去帮助他们。)”说明我们应该帮助他人,C选项“We should use the internet to help others instead of hurting them(我们应该利用互联网去帮助他人,而非伤害他人)”说明我们应该利用网络来帮助他人,引起下文,符合语境,故选C。
【39题详解】
空前“We also need to keep a sense of responsibility in the digital world.(在数字世界中,我们同样需要保持责任感。)”说明我们应该有责任感,E选项“Responsibility is the guarantee of building a good network environment(责任感是构建良好网络环境的保障)”说明了责任感的重要性,Responsibility和前文的responsibility一致,承接上文,符合语境,故选E。
【40题详解】
空后“As long as we keep honesty, kindness and responsibility in our hearts, we can practice virtues anytime and anywhere, whether in real life or in the digital world, and become a virtuous person.(只要我们心中始终秉持诚实、善良和责任感,我们就能随时随地践行这些美德,无论是在现实生活中还是在数字世界里,从而成为一个有德行的人。)”

【答案】参考范文:
Paragraph 1
Suddenly, I thought of what my mom had said and the warm nights we spent together. I took a deep breath and calmed myself down. So encouraged was I that I decided to face the challenge bravely. With my mom’s words echoing in my mind, I picked up my pen and wrote down the answers. This time, no matter how difficult the questions were, I didn’t feel confused. Instead, I solved them one by one. When the time was up, I handed in my paper with confidence, a big smile on my face.
Paragraph 2
After the exam, I rushed home as quickly as I could to tell my mom the result. When I opened the door, there stood my mom, waiting for me with a big dinner. I threw myself into her arms and told her how smoothly the exam had gone. A few days later, when I got the full score, my mom hugged me tightly and kissed my forehead. She said my progress was the best gift for her. This experience not only helped me overcome the difficulty but also taught me the true meaning of love and persistence.
