China has a long history of over 5,000 years. What could represent China in your mind?
The Great Wall represents China in my eyes. It is about 21,000 kilometers long and over 2,000 years old. There is a famous Chinese saying, “He who does not reach the Great Wall is not a true man.” I really hope I can visit the fantastic place in the future!
Di Xinran, Zhengzhou

Does happiness matter? People have different ideas. Some say there are more important things to care about, while others think happiness is what everyone wants in life. To know this, we first need to understand what happiness really is.
Happiness is about our feelings, but it’s not just a short time of smiling or laughing. It’s how we feel about our life as a whole. Every day, we have many feelings. Feelings like fear and anger can keep us safe. Happy feelings, like joy and hope, help us make friends and solve problems. Being happy doesn’t mean we never feel sad or angry. Everyone has hard times, and these feelings are normal. True happiness is enjoying good times and learning to face difficult times.
Studies show happiness is important for success. Some people think happy people are not hard-working, but studies show the opposite is true. Happy people work better, stay healthier, and have better relationships.
In a study at Warwick University, two groups did the same task. One group watched a happy and funny video first. They did the task 11% better than the other group.
Other studies found the same. Companies with happier workers often do better in business. Young people who were happier as children are usually more successful when they grow up. One reason is that happiness helps children’s brains work better. They can make better choices, like studying first before playing. So happiness can help people succeed, not just come from success.
Of course, happiness can’t solve all problems. Happy people still have troubles, and not all happy people are successful. But happiness makes life better in many ways.
In the end, happiness is more than just a feeling. It helps us succeed, makes our society better, and gives real meaning to life.

B. Happiness makes people overcome the bad feelings.
C. A happy childhood can ensure a happier life in adulthood.
D. Happy workers did 11% more work than less happy ones.
7. What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage?
A. To discuss some people’s ideas about happiness. B. To show that happiness is important for us.
C. To compare happy people with others in research. D. To tell us that success is the key to happiness.

Have you ever wondered what else you can do on the train besides sleeping or scrolling through your phone? Actually, in China, trains have turned into centres which bring together the public and the nation’s intangible cultural Heritage (ICH,非物质文化遗产).
Trains go across China and they are becoming ideal places for introducing local traditional culture. A good example is the K7041 train from Harbin to Mohe in Northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province. On the ICH train, Gulayier, dressed in traditional clothes, sang Oroqen folk songs and his partner played the Oroqen jaw harp, a musical instrument. Tourists on the train, especially those from southern China, sang and danced excitedly with the two performers (表演者) together. Gulayier said the train made it easier to hold tourists’ attention to his shows. He thought the train was a good platform for promoting (促进) ICH.
Traditional heritage comes to life on trains. More ICH such as Qinhuai lanterns from Nanjing, Yulin puppet shows, and tea-picking operas in Guangxi has also made appearances on high-speed trains across China. It offers passengers a close-up way to experience traditional culture.
Professor Xiao Fang from Beijing Normal University shares Gulayier’s opinion on the new use of ICH trains. He has pointed out another advantage of this. Beyond cultural promotion, it offers help for tourism. When passengers enjoy local traditions on board, they often develop a deeper interest in exploring the places they pass through.
However, the ICH train journeys still have challenges, including the narrow space on trains and passengers getting on and off at each station. Therefore, some solutions are coming up cultural corners show traditional arts, and QR codes connect to more digital information. These help passengers to explore ICH at their own pace and continue learning after their journey ends.
The success of ICH trains offers valuable lessons for cultural protection worldwide, proving that innovation (革新) and tradition can work together to keep cultural heritage alive for future generations.
8. What is the fresh experience for passengers on the K7041 train?
A. Travelling farther north. B. Joining in live shows.
C. Wearing traditional clothes. D. Having fun on the phone.

A. ICH encourages more local visits.
B. Trains help make ICH more popular.

D. Passengers welcome performers on ICH trains.

C. Their problems and methods. D. Their future and improvement.
11. What can be the best title for the passage?

China’s Space Mice: Tiny Astronauts on a Big Mission (使命)
①China has sent four special mice to the Tiangong Space Station, marking its first experiment (实验) with small mammals (哺乳动物) in space.
②The journey began with 300 mice. Scientists spent 60 days choosing the best ones. The mice had to pass many tests. For example, they needed to stay on a turning stick for more than 110 seconds to show they were strong. This is important for fighting space sickness. They even had to find their way through mazes to show how well they could remember places. Only 48 mice made it. Finally, two male and two female mice were chosen.
③These black mice have very similar genes (基因) because they come from a special group. This helps scientists get more exact results from the experiments. Their space home was made just for them. It has controlled temperature, enough food and water, and a system to clean waste, just like they would in nature.
④In space, astronauts moved the mice into a special research box. This box was brought to the station earlier by the Tianzhou-9 cargo ship. Scientists on the ground will watch the mice through cameras. They want to learn how living without gravity (引力) and in a small space influences the mice. They will study how the mice move, eat, and sleep. Another interesting experiment will look at how space changes tiny things inside their bodies.
⑤This mission is very important because it is a “from 0 to 1” breakthrough (突破). It tests if China can safely send mammals to space, care for them, and bring them back. Mice are good for space research because their bodies are similar to humans in many ways. What we learn from them will help keep astronauts safe on long space trips. It will also support China’s plans to send people to the moon before 2030 and to Mars one day.
⑥After their space trip, scientists will study them carefully. Like human astronauts, these brave little mice are helping humans get ready to explore deeper into space.
12. Which picture best describes the word “mazes” in Paragraph 2?
A. B. C. D.
13. What does the word “it” in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A. The space home. B. The turning rod.
C. The research box. D. The Tianzhou-9 cargo ship.
14. What can we know about the four mice from the passage?
A. They passed all tests easily and their home is exactly like Earth.
B. They will help to prepare for future human space missions.
C. They were sent to space by the Tianzhou-9 cargo ship directly.
D. They have the same genes and are the first mammals in space.
15. Why is the mice experiment called a “from 0 to 1 breakthrough”?
A. It is China’s first time to send mice to the space station.
B. It is China’s first time to use cameras to watch animals in space.
C. It is China’s first time to make a special home for mice in space.
D. It is China’s first time to send mammals to space and bring them back safely.

【答案】Dear David,
How are you doing? I’m writing to share an unforgettable activity with you. My school held an activity named School Space Day in our school hall last week.
Firstly, we attended a lecture given by a well-known space expert at 10 a.m. We had a deep understanding of the secrets of space during the lecture. Secondly, we visited a space exhibition at 2 p.m. There, we saw some spacesuits and learned about the history of human space exploration by watching some videos. One of my favorite parts was taking part in the water rocket launching contest at 4 p.m. It helped to express our creativity.
I think this activity is very meaningful. It not only taught us about the mysteries of space, but also brought science to life.
