Passage 1(2026年广西壮族自治区南宁市西乡塘区中考二模)
①As we know, eating vegetables is good for us. They are full of vitamins and minerals (维生素和矿物质) that help keep our bodies healthy. Why do some people like them but others don’t? A new study has found that likes and dislikes from other people could be a reason. According to the research, people who show a clear dislike while eating vegetables can influence others.
②People make facial expressions (面部表情) when eating. How does it influence a person’s food choice? A team of scientists in the UK did a study. They asked more than 200 young women to watch videos of other adults eating carrots. The people in the videos had different expressions while eating. They would smile, seem either happy or sad, or look disgusted (厌恶的).
③The study found that after people watched those videos of people with disgusting faces, they began to like carrots less. However, when someone had a smile while eating carrots, people watching them liked carrots more.
④By watching others, humans learn which behavior will be good for them. Scientists believe people may dislike food that looks bad and refrain from eating it. In this way, people can stop themselves from eating something bad or dangerous.
⑤The research focused only on adults, but scientists believe that the results could also work for children. Children are very good at copying what adults do. This means if children see their parents not enjoying certain food, including vegetables, they might not want to eat them either.
⑥Scientists hope to learn more about how adults’ behavior influences children’s food choices. In this way, they could find ways to help children to eat more healthy food.

Passage 3(广西南宁二中2026届初中毕业班5月份质量调研)
In Jingdezhen, China’s famous “Porcelain (瓷器) Capital,” scientists are doing something amazing. They’re using modern technology to understand and recreate ancient ceramics (制陶术). How cool is that?
One of their projects is the Ancient Ceramics Gene Bank. Researchers collect broken pieces of old porcelain—yes, even “rubbish”!—and study them with high-technology tools. And then each piece is given a “digital ID”. This helps them learn how the old masters made their art. A broken piece of a duck-shaped incense burner (香炉) even became a cute cartoon character called “Suisui Duck”!
But that’s not all. Some people in Jingdezhen use 3D printers to make ceramics. In the past, making a porcelain vase (花瓶) needed 72 steps and took up to 15 days. Now, with a 3D printer, you can finish a piece in just 3 hours! This means artists can create wild shapes that were impossible before.
A young designer named Liang Liwen has an even cooler idea. His family has made ceramics for three generations (几代人). Now he makes ceramic material! He creates very thin porcelain pieces—only 0.4 mm thick—and joins them with cloth to make beautiful dresses. His designs have appeared in London and Milan Fashion Weeks!
These stories show that old traditions and new technology can work together. Science is not just for labs — it can help us keep our culture alive in exciting new ways.

Passage 4(广西壮族自治区南宁市天桃实验学校2026年春季学期九年级五月单元作业)
Many people like staying in their comfort zone (区域), but is it always good for us? A comfort zone is a place, situation or level where there is the least stress. However, stepping into the learning zone can help us achieve our best. Here are the reasons.
Challenging yourself can help you be at your best
Stepping outside one’s comfort zone is important for personal development. We should try something we might not succeed in.
Taking risks helps us grow
As children, we naturally like to take risks. But as we get older and learn to fear failure, we start trying fewer new things. We lose a lot because we’re afraid of failure. But you can’t learn anything without having problems.
Facing new challenges can help us grow better
Our comfort zone seems to become smaller as we get older—but if we can keep expanding (扩大) it, we’ll open ourselves up to a greater world as we grow. As we step into the learning zone, we will get more comfortable with the skills gradually and we’ll start to move into the comfort zone. A study found that learning new life skills can help our brain stay smart as we get older.
However, don’t push yourself too far. Have you heard of “Yerkes-Dodson Law”? It means performance increases as stress grows, but only up to a point. If the level of stress becomes too high, performance will go down. When we experience too much stress, we enter the danger zone.

Passage 6(广西南宁市第三中学2025~2026学年度春季学期随堂练习二)
Have you ever wondered if astronauts can enjoy grilled (烤的) food in space? Do you know how they cook in a weightless environment? It is known to all that astronauts usually eat freeze-dried meals, but things have changed with a new invention. Six astronauts from Shenzhou XX and Shenzhou XXI successfully grilled chicken wings and beef in Tiangong Space Station. This marks the first real cooking experience in space for the spacemen.
Why is cooking in space so difficult? First, hot air doesn’t rise in space like it does on our planet. This causes food to cook very slowly. Second, tiny particles (粒子) of oil and smoke spread everywhere in the spaceship. These particles are dangerous and bad for the astronauts’ health.
Luckily, Chinese engineers created a special hot-air oven to fix these problems. The oven has a small fan to move hot air around. A closed system is added to it to catch oil and smoke. This can keep the inside of the spaceship clean and safe. The smart oven makes it possible for astronauts to enjoy delicious fresh-made food including cakes.
In a short video from the station about 400 km above Earth, an astronaut took chicken wings out of a package (包装袋), put the wings on a special plate and placed them into the oven. They were cooked at 180°C for 28 minutes.
When the hot wings came out of the oven, the aroma got all astronauts to come together and try them. They said they loved the wonderful smell and taste.
This smart invention not only improves the astronauts’ life in space but also shows China’s great progress in space technology. Clearly, people’s love for delicious food can go far beyond (远于) the Earth!

Passage 8(2026年广西桂林市中考二模考试)
Our earth is full of colourful natural wonders: green rainforests, yellow deserts and blue oceans. They are home to all living things and provide us with important resources.
The Amazon Rainforest is the world’s largest rainforest, covered with endless green plants. Known as the “Lungs of the Earth”, it produces much oxygen for all life. Many countries protect it, and over 2 million square kilometers are in natural reserves. Local people also plant young trees every year.
The Sahara Desert is a bright yellow land. It is one of the largest and driest deserts on Earth. People here live in harmony with nature. They collect rainwater carefully and use less than 10 liters of water each day. They also plant drought-resistant plants to hold sand.
The Pacific Ocean is the largest and deepest ocean on Earth, shining in bright blue. Oceans together cover more than 70% of the earth’s surface. Plastic bags pollute about 80% of ocean areas and harm sea animals. Now people clean millions of tons of rubbish from beaches yearly and use less plastic to protect the blue water.

Passage 9(2026年广西南宁市初中毕业班质量调研二)
① If you put two bottles of water—one hot and the other cold in a fridge, which will freeze more quickly? The cold water? But in fact, the hot water most probably freezes first. Strange, isn’t it? Scientists call it the Mpemba effect (姆潘巴效应).
② Once Erasto Mpemba, a school boy, was making ice cream in a cooking class. He was surprised to find that a heated mix froze more quickly than a cold one. He wondered why this happened. When Osborne, a university scientist, came to the school, he asked him about it. Osborne took it seriously. He suggested that they work together to find out why. They tested many times by using water with temperatures from 25℃ to 90℃, and their discovery (发现) showed that the higher the water temperature was, the less time it took the water to freeze. It means water at 25℃ takes the longest time to freeze and water at 90℃ takes the shortest.
③ What causes this effect? Some scientists think that the gas leaves water as water heats up, which makes it freeze quicker. Other scientists think differently. They say water in a bottle keeps moving, with hot water rising and cold water going down. This convection is stronger in the hotter bottle, which makes hot water lose heat faster than cold water.
④ Last winter, the Mpemba effect became popular online. Many people went to Harbin and threw hot water into the freezing air. The hot water would turn into ice at once, allowing people to enjoy the beautiful ice mist (薄雾) in the air. People took videos of this process and put them on the Internet.

Passage 13(2025年广西壮族自治区柳州市鱼峰区等2地中考二模)
Imagine that you get into your car, tell your car where you want to go, and then let it take you there. This is called self-driving. In fact, the idea behind self-driving cars is very simple. A self-driving car is connected with a computer and the computer is connected with many cameras which can track all the objects close to the car and give the computer all the driving rules and routes (路线). Then the car can take people to the place where they want to go.
Recently, China has made a big step toward self-driving technology. Since August, driverless taxis can run on roads in Wuhan, Chongqing and Shenzhen.
Why do we develop self-driving cars? Self-driving cars give us many benefits. They use computers to sense the things around them. They can help our city make better use of space. That means fewer traffic jams and better parking of cars. For disabled people, self-driving cars can also help them get around more easily. More importantly, with the new technology for safety, self-driving cars could reduce road accidents by 90%.
However, self-driving cars aren’t perfect. If something unexpected happens, self-driving cars can’t take action as fast as a human driver. Also, during extreme weather conditions like heavy snow, self-driving cars would fail to see the lines on the road. It might lead to an accident. The car’s computer system could also get hacked (非法入侵) by someone, causing it to break down.
It is clear that there is a lot of work to do to make self-driving cars a common and safe sight on our roads. And China is taking the lead in making this happen.

Passage 14(2025年广西南宁市天桃实验学校中考二模)
①What happens when a tree dies and falls in a forest? Is deadwood good or bad for the nature? People often think deadwood is bad because it attracts pests (害虫) that hurt living trees. However, recent studies suggest this risk is low and that deadwood plays a key role in the ecosystem (生态系统).
②According to scientists from Europe and the US, dead trees help nature a lot. On the one hand, dead trees provide homes for fungi (真菌), bacteria (细菌) and insects. As they break down the trees, nutrients (营养物质) are returned to the soil, which helps new plants grow. When this happens, the insects also become food for other animals like birds and bats, making deadwood important for biodiversity (生物多样性). On the other hand, deadwood can help fight climate change by locking some carbon (碳) in the ground for over a century.
③However, deadwood has become less and less all over the world. Many forests have been turned into tree farms where trees are cut down for business use before they die in a natural way. Some people also clear away deadwood to lower the risk of fires or burn it as fuel in factories.
④Scientists believe it is better to leave deadwood where it is. European countries and the US have begun to encourage deadwood preservation (枯木保留区).

Passage 16(2025年广西南宁市青秀西乡塘良庆区钦州钦北区初中毕业班质量调研二)
Have you ever seen a colorful rainbow in the sky after it rains? That happens when the sunlight goes through the water in the air. The sun shines again after rain, and you see red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and purple light in the sky—a rainbow.
The sun’s light is actually made of many colors that don’t all move the same way. When this light goes into a raindrop (雨滴) , it bends (弯曲) and separates into all these colors like red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and purple.
After that, these colors hit the back inside of the raindrop and bounce (反弹) back. This makes them bend again and spread out, making a shape like part of a circle, which is the rainbow we see. Purple bends a lot, but red not so much.
So, why do rainbows look like a curve? It’s because the raindrops are not all the same distance from us. They make a circle shape around a line from the sun to our eyes, creating that curve.
Stand with your back to the sun, because a rainbow appears opposite the sun. If the sun is too high, no rainbow can appear. But sometimes, you might even see two rainbows at once! That’s when the sunlight bounces twice inside the raindrops.
Next time you see a rainbow, remember it’s just the sun and rain working together to make something really special and pretty in the sky.

Passage 17(2025年广西南宁市青秀西乡塘良庆区钦州钦北区初中毕业班质量调研二)
Here is a list of some activities that will help kids all year round to explore and learn from the wildness outside your back door or down the road. Let the outdoor fun begin:
Explore the Surroundings
No need to be in a forest to explore nature. Start at the areas around you, for example, look at the corners of your backyard, types of trees and leaves from the green. You might be amazed at how much wildness you can find in it!
Catch a Bug (虫子)
You can let the kids use a small container (容器) or bag to collect bugs. After the bug hunting, you can watch the tiny insects and know about them, and then set them free into the wild!
Plant a Flower
Start by digging a hole and exploring what’s under the soil. If your child is able for it, give him his own shovel (铲子) and watch him go to work. As your child starts digging, ask him what he can see. After the hole and the exploring part, let him plant a flower, and remind him to look after it every day.
Collect Leaves & Explore
Autumn is the best season for it! Collect all the different kinds of leaves, and discuss about the colors, texture (纹理) and shapes. Look carefully and draw what you see. You and your child can imagine you are scientists, observing (观察) and writing down what you see. Hope you will enjoy it!

Passage 18(2025年广西壮族自治区贺州市昭平县中考二模)
Have you ever walked into a room and realized you couldn’t remember what you were looking for? We seem to do this more when thinking about a few things at once or doing two things at the same time. For example, you’re crossing the street while chatting with a friend. Some people call this dual-tasking. Everyone does it and we tend to get better at it as we get older and learn new skills.
Our brain is like a computer—it can only use so much energy at one time. Think of your brain as a power station providing electricity for cities. If some cities need a lot of energy by having all their lights on, other cities would have less power to work with. There’s only so much electricity to go around.
For young kids, dual-tasking is possible. However, it can be a little more difficult for younger kids compared with older kids. Why? The power station in their brain is smaller and can’t produce as much energy as older kids.
So why do you sometimes forget to say something before speaking? The answer is that you were likely dual-tasking just before speaking. Maybe you were thinking about the words you wanted to say and something else at the same time. Sometimes your brain can’t do two complicated things at once. You may not have enough energy at that moment.
Forgetting things is normal for everyone and can happen when you’re doing too many things. When it happens to you, don’t be nervous!

Ding! You just got a text message, and it says that you won a prize! All you need to do is click a link (链接) and enter some personal information. You’re excited, but it seems that something goes wrong. You don’t remember whether you have entered a competition or not. So should you leave the link alone or see what’s inside?
You are right to think twice before you click that link! That’s because some text messages are actually “smishing (短信诈骗)”, which is designed to take money away from you. But with a little knowledge, you’ll be able to recognize it easily.

The goal of most cheats is to steal money and personal information. They may also try to get you to download some kind of app. But that app is likely to contain malware, a computer program that will do harm to your mobile phone. Not only that, but some malware can also steal your information and take control of your mobile phone.
It’s reported that over 3.5 million smishing texts are sent out every day. But the cheats have no power over you unless they can get you to trust them. Some cheats even do research on victims (受骗者) so that they can sound more real.
If you check your message and can’t make sure whether it’s safe, ask yourself these questions: Was I expecting this message? Is there any way for me to find out who the sender is? Don’t join the millions of people who lose big from smishing every year. Stop and think before you click that link.

Nowadays, we can receive deliveries (递送物) in different ways, such as by a drone (无人机) or by mail. For customers of Shake Shack, a fast-food restaurant in Los Angeles, their hamburgers may be sent by a robot instead of a deliveryman.
The fast-food restaurant sells hamburgers, chips and more. When ordering a meal from Shake Shack through the Uber Eats app, customers can choose to have their food delivered by a robot. The robot can drive itself from the restaurant to their homes. Customers can then track the robot through their phones. They can see its journey from the restaurant to their addresses.
The robot is invented by Serve Robotics. It is around 1 meter tall and looks like a box on four wheels, with two lights at the front which look like eyes. According to reports, the robot can carry up to 23 kilograms at a top speed of 11 km per hour and they only travel on sidewalks. Food orders are put into a safe space that can only be opened by the customers with the Uber Eats app when the robot arrives at their homes.
Since 2022, the robots have already made thousands of deliveries for Uber Eats in Los Angeles. However. there can be problems. Although Serve Robotics says that its robots finish their deliveries over 99% of the time, some online videos show that people are breaking the robots and taking away what’s inside them.

根据语篇内容,选择最佳选项。

A.Because they don’t like to think and talk.
B.Because they’re not interested in anything.
C.Because their brain’s “power station” is smaller.
89.Which of the following is the “dual-tasking”?
A.Eat an apple at home alone.
B.Clean the room after doing homework.
C.Sing a song while riding a bike.
