Passage 1
(25-26八年级下·山东临沂·期中)Nature is full of wonderful sights that never fail to amaze us. From the highest mountains to the deepest oceans, every natural wonder tells a story of nature’s power and beauty. Last year, I had the chance to visit two amazing natural wonders, and the experience changed my view of nature.
The first wonder I visited was the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. It is famous for its tall and strange rocks that stand straight in the forest. The rocks are covered with green plants, and when the mist comes, the park looks like a fairyland. I walked along the path and enjoyed the fresh air and beautiful scenery. I also saw many monkeys playing in the trees, which made the park full of life. This visit made me realize how beautiful and magical nature is.
The second natural wonder I visited was the Dead Sea. Unlike other seas, the Dead Sea is so salty that no fish can live in it. When you go into the water, you can float easily without swimming. My parents and I floated in the water and took many photos. I also learned that the Dead Sea has special minerals that are good for our skin. This experience taught me that nature has many surprises waiting for us to discover.
Visiting these natural wonders was a great experience. It made me love nature more and want to protect it. I hope everyone can have the chance to explore nature’s wonders and learn to cherish our beautiful planet.

Spring is green. When spring comes, trees and grass begin to grow. When we see green, we usually feel comfortable. For me, spring is the best season for going out.
Summer is different. It’s usually very hot, so the season is red. In summer, the flowers look so beautiful. Some people like summer because they can go swimming. It is a good sport in summer.
It usually gets cool in autumn. The rice in the fields and fruit on the trees are signs of autumn. Its colour is gold. Farmers are usually busy. Of course, they are happy too. For me, it’s also a good season for doing sports.

Passage 3
An old saying used for forecasting (预测) the weather says, “Red sky at night, sailors’ delight. Red sky in the morning, sailors (水手) take warning.” Is the saying true? It turns out that it is. A red sky at sunset may mean that there are clear skies to the west, where the sun sets. A red sky at sunrise usually means that the clear weather has already passed, so storms might be coming.
Forecasting the weather has been practiced for thousands of years. In the 5th century BC, the Greeks sent out forecasts to sailors. They used signs in nature to forecast the weather. But today, meteorologists send exact forecasts further in advance (提前). They use scientific instruments to study weather conditions around the world and make forecasts. Pilots, farmers and many other people depend on these forecasts. Luckily, most of us can simply look on the smart phone or turn on the TV to find out what kind of weather is coming.
If you are looking for some signs of the weather, pay attention to nature. There are two basic rules used in weather forecasting: Weather generally moves from west to east, and low air pressure usually means rain or snow. So pay attention to the signs. If rainbows form in the west at sunrise, the sun is on the way. Smell the flowers—their smells are stronger in wet air. What are the ants doing? Are they moving to higher ground? This could mean a drop in air pressure. Are the birds flying low or high? Falling air pressure may influence birds’ ears, so they fly low. And if the sky is red at sunset, you might plan a picnic for the next day!
1.What is the old saying about?
A.The beauty of sunrise.B.The night sky. C.The signs of the weather. D.The sailors’ work.
2.What does the underlined word “meteorologists” mean?
A.The persons who give daily weather reports on TV.
B.The persons who carry out research on natural history.
C.The persons who take an interest in plants and animals.
D.The persons who do scientific studies of weather conditions.
3.How does the writer develop his idea in Paragraph 2?
A.By listing the reasons for terrible weather.
B.By telling a true story about weather forecasting.
C.By introducing different ways of forecasting the weather.
D.By mentioning the difficulties in forecasting the weather.
4.What do we know from the last paragraph?
A.It’ll be sunny if ants move to higher places. B.The smells of flowers are stronger in wet air.
C.Birds fly higher because of the low air pressure. D.It’ll rain if rainbows form in the west at sunrise.

Respecting others’ boundaries is also key. If our classmates say “no” to us, we should stop asking and respect their choice. We should never laugh at them for saying “no”. Passage 1
Do you know the sun’s warmth is a kind of useful energy? Want to try using it yourself? Let’s do a cool project to make a solar tower!
You can try this project at home. You need some tape, a pin, paper, three cans, and two big thick books. Now, we’re going to build the solar tower. First, make a pinwheel with a piece of square paper. In the second stage, cut off the tops and bottoms of the cans, pile up the cans and stick them with tape. Next, use a pin to connect the pinwheel with the tower. Finally, put the tower on top of the books, which are five centimeters apart. So there’s a gap at the bottom, allowing the air to enter the tower.
Now, all we have to do is to set the whole thing near a window, where there’s direct sunlight. When the sun shines on the tower, it gets hot and warms the air in it. The warmer air moves upward through the tower and makes the pinwheel turn around as it passes by. Then cooler air comes in through the gap from the bottom of the tower, gets heated, and rises, so the cycle goes on. This is how it works. Isn’t it wonderful?
So next time you feel the warm sun on your face, remember that it’s more than just a nice feeling. Sunlight is a powerful and useful source of energy.

Do you know Food Trainer? It is an app called FoodT. A group of scientists at the University of Exeter developed it. It helps people eat less junk food through a game.
In the game, healthy food always appears in green circles and unhealthy food always comes in red circles. Some everyday objects, such as pencils and sweaters, appear randomly (随机地) in the green or red circles. When a user clicks (点击) on the healthy food or an object in the green circle, he can get a point. If he clicks on unhealthy food or any other object in red circles, he will lose a point.
Does this simple game work well? The developers of the app did a study. They invited more than 1,200 volunteers to play the game once a day. After a month, the volunteers reported their changes. Most of them said they ate more healthy food. Some volunteers used to eat junk food two to four times a week. At the end of the study, they only ate once a week. And almost each volunteer lost some weight.
Why does the app work so well? It’s because it uses brain training techniques (技术). The game trains users’ brains to reduce (减少) their cravings (渴望) for junk food . Through practice, users lose interest in junk food in their life. But they need to play it at certain times and not stop.
The app is free and it only takes about four minutes every day, so people can do it not just at home but anywhere. Try it now.

They use their digital (电子的) watches. So many children ask their parents, “Why not keep money in the mobile phone or the watch?”
Hearing the question from their children, many parents start to worry. “Our children don’t know much about money. For them, money is just numbers. They have no idea where money comes from or how hard one makes money. This is bad for them.” one mother says. To solve the problem, parents start to provide chances for their children to use paper money. For example, they give paper money for their children to do some shopping.
To solve the problem, these years, a few schools in some cities begin to give special math classes to teach students about money. During the class, teachers show all the paper money and coins (硬币) to students and teach them yuan, jiao and fen. What’s more, the teachers ask the students to do simple calculations (简单的计算): from jiao to yuan or from yuan to fen.
2.第二段提到“But today, meteorologists send exact forecasts further in advance (提前). They use scientific instruments to study weather conditions around the world and make forecasts.”,说明如今气象学家能提前准确发送预报,他们用科学仪器研究世界各地的天气状况并做出预报,由此可知“meteorologists”是对天气状况进行科学研究的人。
3.第二段先说“Forecasting the weather has been practiced for thousands of years.”,然后举例“In the 5th century BC, the Greeks sent out forecasts to sailors. They used signs in nature to forecast the weather.”

1.What do you need to build the solar tower according to the passage?
① tape and cans ② paper ③ water ④ a wheel ⑤ scissors or knives ⑥ two books
A.①②⑤⑥ B.①③④⑤ C.②④⑤⑥ D.①②③⑤
2.What is the pin used for in this solar tower project?
A.To tape the three cans together. B.To make the pinwheel spin more quickly.
C.To make some nice patterns for the pinwheel. D.To join the pinwheel and the tower together.
3.Why do we leave a gap between the two books?
A.To stop the tower from falling off. B.To make the air get into the tower.
C.To prevent the books from heating up. D.To allow the air to get out of the tower.
4.How does the air travel through the tower? (⊕ for warm air; ◎ for cold air.)
A. B. C. D.
【答案】1.A 2.D 3.B 4.A

Try it now.

Read the poem from Turkey, and answer the following questions:
THE MOUSE AND THE CAMEL
A mouse came out of his hole in the ground,

Passage 1
Managing money is an important life skill for everyone. As teenagers, you may not have much money, but learning to use it wisely is helpful for your future.
First, you should know where your money comes from. It may be pocket money from your parents, money by helping with housework, or prizes from school activities. Knowing the source helps you value it more.
Second, make a simple plan. Write down what you spend money on every week, such as snacks, school things and online games. You will find out what is necessary and what is not. Cut down the unnecessary cost and save the rest.
Saving is also important. You can put a part of your money in a savings box or a bank account. It can help you when you really need money for a book, a gift or something unexpected.
Some students may follow others and buy things they don’t really need just to keep up with their friends. That is not smart. You should learn to make good choices by yourself.
Learning to manage money not only helps you form good habits, but also makes you understand the importance of hard work. It will benefit you a lot as you grow up.
1.What is the first paragraph mainly about?
A.How teenagers make money. B.Why money management matters.

Passage 3
With the development of mobile payment, more and more children are not using paper money now.
A survey shows 86% of people in China use mobile phones to pay. For students, they seldom touch (触碰) the paper money in their everyday life. They may only do it when they get lucky money during the Spring Festival. When they need to buy something, they usually don’t reach into their pockets for paper money.
Mr. Wang, a math teacher, says, “Most children know little about money, so we need to help them get to know it. It’s a hard job, but the classes will be helpful to them.”

3.根据第二段中“When they need to buy something, they usually don’t reach into their pockets for paper money. They use their digital watches.”可知,现在孩子们买东西通常使用电子手表支付。
