Six months ago, 19-year-old Xie Lei left her hometown and flew to London. It was her first time to go abroad. She felt excited as well as nervous, not sure about the life ahead. Xie Lei is a business student in China and she is now in the UK on a one-year exchange programme. She decided to apply for it because she wanted to learn more about global business, improve her English and prepare to set up her own company after graduation.
When she first arrived, Xie Lei had plenty of difficulties to deal with. She had to adapt to a brand-new lifestyle. She learned to use local public transport and communicate with strangers. Sometimes she got lost and had to ask passers-by for help. However, native speakers spoke too fast and used unfamiliar expressions, so she often asked them to repeat. Unlike other international students, she did not choose to live on campus. Instead, she stayed with a host family. The warm family helped her get used to local culture and comforted her when she felt homesick. They even enjoyed learning Chinese culture and cooking Chinese food together with her.
Apart from daily life, she also met academic pressure. British teachers pay great attention to students’ independent thinking. When writing essays, students must offer their own ideas instead of only copying others’ opinions. In addition, class discussion and presentations are important parts of final grades. At first, Xie Lei was shy and quiet in class. Gradually, she became brave enough to share her thoughts. Now she has finished half of her exchange time. She not only studies hard but also takes part in social activities. She proudly acts as a cultural messenger to connect China and Britain.
24. Why did Xie Lei join the exchange programme in London?
A. To experience British food and festivals. B. To study global business and improve English.
C. To visit her foreign friends in the UK. D. To escape from heavy study pressure at home.
25. Which living place did Xie Lei choose in the UK?
A. A host family’s home. B. A classroom in the university.
C. The campus dormitory. D. A restaurant near the school.
26. What do British teachers expect students to do in their essays?
A. Remember all the famous poems. B. Show their own independent opinions.
C. Copy ideas from other books fully. D. Write about their happy family stories.
27. What role does Xie Lei play while studying in the UK?
A. A professional hotel manager. B. A cultural messenger between two countries.
C. A traffic police volunteer. D. A foreign language textbook writer.

Pizza: The World’s Favorite Food
Food, and the way we eat it, are always changing. As society develops, we learn new ways of growing, processing and cooking food. What we ate 200 years ago was very different from what we eat today. Also, when people travel to live in other countries, they take their knowledge of cooking with them. And food must fit modern lifestyles and local tastes food that has done this successfully is pizza.
The pizza we recognize today first appeared in Italy in 1889. A famous baker from Naples made a special pizza for the Italian royal family. He was very worried they wouldn’t like it, but they did. Queen Margherita loved the dish so much, and the baker named it after her. Since then, this simple meal of bread, cheese, and tomato has traveled the world, and it has adapted to local cultures. The pizza began its journey in the 1890s, when many Italians moved to New York in search of a better life. There they continued to make pizzas, and the first pizzeria opened in 1905.
At first it was only popular with Italians, but by the late 1940s, Americans discovered a taste for it. Today, they spend $37 billion a year on pizzas. That’s more than $100 per American!
The pizza continued its travels around the world, adapting all the time. In Sweden, for example, it is usual to have bananas on pizzas. In Belgium, people eat chocolate pizzas with marshmallows on top. Japan is a nation of seafood lovers, so not surprisingly, they love octopus and squid, as well as roasted seaweed, toppings.
The popularity of the pizza is also related to our changing lifestyles. In today’s super-fast society, people often don’t have the time or energy to cook. So, they order take-out and very often, it’s a pizza. Sometimes you don’t even have to pick it up; it’s delivered to your home. If you don’t even have time to sit down, buy a single slice and eat it standing up!
The pizza has come a long way. From its beginnings in an Italian city, it has grown to become one of the world’s favorite foods.

Studying abroad may be exciting, but it is a little less exciting when you face all the cultural differences in a single day.
When I was in middle school, I decided to make a cultural exchange in Munich, Germany during my first year studying German. The exchange included spending ten days at the home of the assigned (指定的) family to experience how German kids live and what they do and to observe the similarities and differences between that culture and the Italian culture.
As soon as we landed, we were greeted by the boys and girls who had been assigned to us. I was assigned to Alana, a typical German girl. When we were on the bus, we listened to some music and sang out loud, which are usually done during school trips by Italian kids. Being watched by all the German kids, we realized our behavior led to an abnormal climate for them.
What I feared most was that I had to face another culture all by myself. ‘Once we arrived home, we introduced ourselves. At lunchtime, we decided to go to a restaurant in the area. Before entering the restaurant, Alana’s father, Max, opened the door first for himself, and then he let us in. The first thing I thought was how rude it was, and then I knew that German males go in rooms first to make sure the place is safe, then let the women in.
After dinner, we saw a soccer match between German teams, and for the first time I realized how soccer is a very popular sport, just like in Italy. Totally different from the Italian culture, at 10: 00 pm we were already in bed. This was my first time going to bed at that time. I rolled over in bed and couldn’t get to sleep quickly.
This exchange made me realize the differences between cultures and how culture shock, which is only a concept students study at school, works, but especially I learned that what seems normal to me can be something very improper in another country, even if that country is just a few miles away.
32. What can we know about the cultural exchange the author took part in?
A. It combined German culture with Italian culture.
B. It helped her learn about German kids’ lifestyle.
C. Its aim was to teach Italian students standard German.
D. Its focus was on students with multi-culture backgrounds.
33. What may the German kids think about singing out loud on the bus?
A. Understandable. B. Exciting. C. Unwelcome. D. Funny.
34. Why do German males go in rooms first according to the author?
A. To stress their leadership position in the family. B. To protect the family from possible danger.
C. To order food for the family in advance. D. To show respect for guests.
35. What does the author draw from her experience?
A. Culture shock can be difficult to deal with.
B. Students should develop their adaptive ability.
C. Studying abroad can be beneficial in many ways.
D. Culture shock can be a common and normal phenomenon.

There is much debate nowadays as to what makes up a healthy diet. For example, scientists have insisted for years that a big enemy of health is fatty food. ____36____ However, there is increasing evidence that the real driver of poor health is not so much fatty food, as it is sugar. Heart disease is the number one killer of Americans. This is true regardless of how healthy the rest of their diet might be. Put more simply, while people continue to argue over whether or not fatty food is dangerous, we already know that sugar is a killer.
____37____ The average American gets 1/3 of his or her sugar through sweet drinks alone. The American Heart Association recommends that we limit ourselves to less than 100-150 calories a day from sugar, which is less than what is usually contained in one can of sweet drink or in a single candy bar. In other words, if you want to be healthy, you have to cut down on desserts, and cut out sweet drinks altogether.
Beyond this, you can keep healthy by consuming different categories of fresh foods, especially fruit and vegetables, which are full of vitamins and fibre, rather than processed foods. ____38____ Besides this, it is also important to have some meat, beans, or dairy products in your diet, as they provide the necessary protein for strong bones and muscle growth. As with everything in life, moderation is key. The ideal diet is a balanced one, without too much or too little of any one thing.
Finally, a fundamental key to healthy eating is to eat slowly. It takes about twenty minutes from the time you start eating for your brain to tell your body that you are full. What this means is that people who chew too quickly end up eating too much food because they still feel hungry. Eating slowly also allows your body to digest your food better, and will allow you to enjoy your food more. ____39____ It is also better to eat a modest amount of food each time, rather than to eat a lot in one meal, and then a little in the next.
There is no one trick to healthy eating. Rather, healthy eating starts with having a healthy attitude towards food. ____40____ If you are using food mostly for nutrition, then you are on the right track with your diet. However, if food has become the centre of your life, you might be on the road to bad health. It is up to you to decide how you want to live, and to make the right decisions about your diet.
A. Much of this extra sugar comes from sweets and sweet drinks.
B. Many people are worried about their daily diet quality.
C. Processed foods often contain less nutrition, while having higher quantities of sugar, salt, and fat than fresh ingredients.
D. In addition, studies show that consistent eating habits are better for our health.
E. A proper eating habit helps people stay away from diseases.
F. One question you can ask yourself is, “Do I eat to live, or live to eat?”
G. They remind people to keep away from fatty food in daily life.

When I was six, I played my first soccer game. It was a real game, complete with coaches, uniforms, and parents cheering from the sidelines.
Our two teams, Team One and Team Two, seemed pretty evenly matched, at least in the beginning. The first period ended without a single goal scored by either side. We were all still learning how to play the game properly, and our inexperience ran through this part. We stumbled over the ball, tripped over our own feet, and often completely missed our kicks. But what mattered most was that we were having fun, pure and simple.
The second quarter brought a significant change in the game. Our coach decided to pull out most of our starting players and put in the substitutes (替补), except for me—I was left guarding the goal. On the other side, Team Two’s coach decided to keep their best players on the field, which made things even more challenging for us. It seemed that winning suddenly become essential, even for us six-year-olds.
Team Two started to rule the game, and I found myself surrounded by their players whenever they came near our goal. I was determined to do my best, but it was tough. I couldn’t match the skills of three or four other really good players. Team Two began to score, one goal after another. I threw myself in front of the ball with all the energy I could gather, trying desperately to stop them but in vain.
The pressure was mounting, and I could feel my frustration building with every goal that slipped past me. I shouted, I ran, and I dove, but they kept scoring. I gave it everything I had, but it seemed useless.
My parents were there on the sidelines, and I could see them in the crowd. As the game progressed, I could see the change in my father’s expression. He had been urging me to try harder, yelling advice and encouragement from the sidelines, but now he seemed different. I could see the pain in his eyes, the pain he felt seeing me struggle. It made me want to cry.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Team Two scored their fourth goal, and it was half-time break.

W: Wow, that sounds pretty easy. I usually look in the newspaper or on the Internet. I can find a lot of information, but it takes a while to sort through all the information.
M: Yeah, I kept my search simple. I wanted a nice kitchen, a comfortable bedroom. But the most important thing was having a big living room.
W: Why? So you can entertain people.
M: Yeah, I’d love to have my friends over and cook dinner for them.
W: Really. You should invite me to one of your parties sometime.
M: I’d love to. Are you free this Friday?
W: Of course.

The warm family helped her get used to local culture and comforted her when she felt homesick. They even enjoyed learning Chinese culture and cooking Chinese food together with her.

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项

空处引导名词性从句作表语,表语从句中prefer缺少宾语,结合“Its unique taste of freshness, sourness, hotness and spiciness”可知,宾语指物,应用连接代词what作引导词。故填what。

【64题详解】
考查连词。句意:无论你是在柳州街头漫步,还是在远方品尝一碗美食,螺蛳粉一定会给你的味蕾留下持久的印象,给你带来真正难忘的体验。此处用whether… or…的固定结构,引导包含选择范围的让步状语从句,意为“无论……还是……”。故填or。

第二节 读后续写(满分 25 分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Team Two scored their fourth goal, and it was half-time break.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
In that moment, what my father said meant the world to me.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
Team Two scored their fourth goal, and then it was half-time break. I retrieved the ball from the net and handed it to the referee, feeling utterly helpless. Overwhelmed with despair, I dropped to my knees, tears of a broken-hearted child rolling down my cheeks. It was in that moment that my father made his way onto the field. When he picked me up and held me tightly, the whole world seemed to disappear for a moment. He said in a gentle but firm voice, “Sweetie, it doesn’t matter how many times they scored on you. I’m proud of you. I want you to go back out there and finish the game. Go on now!” (103 words)
In that moment, what my father said meant the world to me. When I felt all alone and defeated, knowing that my dad stood by my side, loving and supporting me unconditionally, made all the difference in the world—I could tell it did. Without hesitation, I wiped away my tears and ran back onto the field, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead. And yes, they did score two more times, but this time, it was different. With my dad’s words echoing in my heart, I knew that I could keep going, no matter what. (84 words)
