A chef named Korean Draper finds her culinary (烹饪) comfort zone. Draper, who grew up surrounded by cooking, didn’t consider a career in the food industry until she left her previous job to care for her mother and a newborn baby. During this period, she spent much time on cookbooks, Food Network shows, and food experiments, forming a deep connection with food that later shaped her professional path. When ready to re-enter the workforce, she set non-negotiable criteria for her new job: It’d have to involve food and people.
Draper initially secured an office role at a corporate catering (餐饮) company near her home outside Philadelphia. However, when she stepped in to assist the kitchen during a period of operational pressure tied to workforce limitations, her boss recognized her potential and offered a permanent shift to culinary work. Starting with simple tasks like salad preparation, she quickly advanced to more complex dishes, fueled by a passion she describes as “a burning fire” once lit. Balancing work and learning, she signed up for culinary classes — an opportunity she’d previously thought unattainable — and rose to the position of general manager.
Fifteen years into her role, Draper wondered if she should try a new career. Yet, no alternative satisfied her as deeply as cooking. A chance introduction to a family seeking a private chef opened a new chapter. Unaware of this special area in the food industry, she began planning meals, grocery shopping, and cooking in clients’ homes, uncovering a need for tailored culinary solutions among busy or uninterested cooks. Using her website Korea’s Kitchen, she expanded her client base, eventually moving from private homes to a church basement kitchen and specializing in family meals and catering.
Driven to grow her business, Draper sought her own kitchen space, a goal achieved through networking. In her new venue, she hosts tastings, cooking classes, and catered events. Today, as a leader of an eight-person team, she remains rooted in her core mission: connecting people through food.
4. What do we know about Draper from paragraph 2?
A. She considered food career early. B. She ignored her family needs.
C. She had clear new job requirements. D. She lacked cooking experience.
5. Why did Draper go to help the kitchen while working in an office?
A. She wanted extra income. B. A staff shortage occurred.
C. Her boss demanded it. D. She sought promotion.
6. What made Draper feel the demand for personalized culinary services?
A. Clients’ strict diets. B. A family’s request.
C. Food industry trends. D. Her website feedback.
7. What can we learn from Draper’s career story?
A. Education guarantees success. B. Family limits one’s career.
C. One’s skills beat one’s planning. D. Passion drives new growth.

An art exhibition that combines scientific knowledge with creative inspiration was recently presented in Albany. The exhibition featured artworks from MIX Artists in the Great Southern that showcased unique art-science cooperation between contemporary artists and marine (海洋的) scientists working in the region. The waters of the south coast and around Albany are well-known for their unique diversity of plants and animals, and the works conveyed important marine science knowledge and current research to a broad audience.
The Western Australian Marine Science Institution (WAMSI) provided opportunities for the artists to learn from marine scientists through talks, presentations and field trips. The artists also followed up with ongoing self-research and observation of their environment.
Dr Jenny Shaw, WAMSI Research Director, said, “It’s been a great opportunity to move science into the community and also see different interpretations of marine research topics.” The scientists benefited from explaining their work to different audiences, and the interest from the artists was incredibly high, contributing to a shared appreciation for the marine environment.
MIX Artists coordinator Annette Davis said the cooperation gave the artists fantastic insight into another world, and working with the scientists was fundamental to how the artworks had developed. “Responding with intuition (直觉), curiosity and imagination, the artists have interpreted their findings through chosen materials and techniques and created artworks to help move this understanding into the wider community,” Davis said.
The pursuit of marine science inspired some artists, whose artworks often centre around the finely-balanced coastal environment and the impact of structural change. Catherine Higham used seagrass and bamboo to make a large listening horn (喇叭) to listen to underwater life. Christine Baker’s work, titled Micro Plastic Menu, was inspired by a talk on microplastic pollution and how it enters food chains.
8. How did WAMSI assist the artists?
A. By aiding in materials creation. B. By providing technical guidance.
C. By offering a platform for art sales. D. By organizing educational events.
9. What can we infer from the text?
A. The art exhibition of scientists is very eye-catching.
B. People are much more interested in science than in art.
C. The participation of artists contributes to the spread of marine knowledge.
D. Artists should go into the classroom to learn cultural knowledge.
10. Why is the work Micro Plastic Menu mentioned in the text?
A. To highlight the personal experiences of the artist.
B. To illustrate that artists draw inspiration from science.
C. To demonstrate the use of technology in contemporary art.
D. To emphasize the role of art in environmental conservation.
11. Which is the best title for the text?
A. An Art Exhibition by a Famous Marine Artist.
B. A Cooperative Art and Marine Science Exhibition.
C. An Exhibition Showcasing Traditional Art Forms.
D. A Conference Discussing Marine Science Advancements.

OpenClaw: The Viral AI Agent Igniting a National “Lobster” Craze
In early March 2026, an open-source AI tool called OpenClaw became very popular in China. People call it“the Lobster”because its icon is a red lobster. It started a nationwide trend called “raising lobsters” — that means installing, setting up, and customizing the tool. Thousands of tech fans waited in line for free setup in Shenzhen and Shanghai, and paid setup services also became popular online quickly.
Unlike common chatbots like ChatGPT, OpenClaw is made to do real work. It can run locally on many operating systems and works well with everyday office software. It can automatically do data analysis, edit documents, and fix code, acting as a useful “digital worker”. This change from just talking to doing things has made people want more compatible(兼容的) devices; Apple’s Mac mini, a good choice for local use, has sold out all over the world. Big tech companies like Tencent and Baidu have added one-click setup to make it easier to use, and local governments have made helpful policies to support related research and new ideas.
However, fast growth also brings big risks. China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has warned that wrong setup may cause cyberattacks and data leaks. Because of this risk, some big international companies have stopped using OpenClaw at work. Also, people who use it a lot have to keep paying for expensive language model APIs.
As international media said, OpenClaw shows the quick rise of useful AI tools and can help people work much better. But to make it grow well and last long, we need a balanced way: we must mix technology innovation, Internet safety, and cost control together.
12. What makes OpenClaw different from common chatbots according to the passage?
A. It is able to perform practical tasks automatically.
B. It supports global online interaction.
C. It provides free office software for users.
D. It works faster than other AI products.
13. What can we infer from the second paragraph?
A. OpenClaw will completely replace human office workers in the near future.
B. ChatGPT will soon be out of date because of the appearance of OpenClaw.
C. Local governments are the main force driving the development of OpenClaw.
D. The release of OpenClaw has had a direct influence on the sales of some compatible devices.
14. Why do some multinational corporations stop the internal use of OpenClaw?
A. Because they worry about the high costs of paid language model APIs.
B. Because they think OpenClaw is not as efficient as traditional office software.
C. Because they are concerned about potential cyberattacks and data leakage risks.
D. Because they believe OpenClaw is not popular enough among their employees.
15. What is the author’s attitude towards OpenClaw?
A. Strongly against it. B. Fully supportive.
C. Objective and balanced D. Uninterested and indifferent.

Student Gardens: More Than Just Growing Food
Across the US, more and more schools are turning empty lots and playground corners into student-run gardens. These small green spaces aren't just about growing tomatoes or carrots — they’re teaching kids big lessons that go beyond the classroom.
At Lincoln Middle School in Portland, Oregon, students in grades 6-8 tend to a 1,200-square-foot garden every week. ____16____ “We start with tiny seeds and watch them become food. It makes me think about how much care things need to grow,” says 13-year-old Mia Carter, who helps plant lettuce (生菜) and herbs. The garden is part of the school’s “Growth & Giving” program:____17____
Teachers say the gardens build key skills. ____18____ “Math comes alive when kids measure soil depth or count harvests,” explains science teacher Mr. Lopez. “They practice teamwork when they plan plots (种植地块) together, and responsibility when they remember to water their plants.” For students like 12-year-old Jayden Reed, who once struggled with focus, the garden has been a game-changer. ____19____
Student gardens also connect kids to their communities. Last month, Lincoln Middle School hosted a “Garden Fair” where families tried student-grown snacks and learned how to start small gardens at home. ____20____ “It’s not just a school project — it’s a way to bring people together,” says Principal Ms. Garcia.
These gardens prove that learning doesn’t have to stay inside four walls. They grow fresh food — but more importantly, they grow curious, kind, and capable kids who understand how their actions can make a difference.
A. Many find peace in caring for plants.
B. Kids use the other half to cook in class.
C. It lets students learn by real teamwork.
D. Students spend hours planting and weeding.
E. They share half the harvest with food banks.
F. These skills help them in daily study and life.
G. Such event strengthens bonds between families.

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Recently, I started my first day of high school. A lot of people build up the first day to be the most intimidating (令人惊恐的) thing. I went from a tiny middle school to this giant high school and was expecting not to know where anything was. I also was panicking because I knew ninth grade would have higher expectations than eighth, and I wasn’t sure how I would do at taking on that challenge. The one thing that kept me calm was that my best friend Dora is actually at my new school, so I have someone to talk to or at least go to when I don’t know what I’m doing.
I had to take the bus to school, which was not something I’d had to do before. Dora and I took the bus together and we talked the whole way there about how we thought the first day would turn out. When we entered the school, everyone was hugging and saying hi and I was awkwardly standing there and holding onto my friend’s bag through the crowd of people. I hated crowds so I stayed with Dora who was probably annoyed by me holding onto her the whole morning. I started to calm down when we all were waiting for the first bell to ring. When Dora and I had to separate, I didn’t want to go to class. When I did, I simply stood at the door because I had no idea where to sit. I sat in the way back. My teacher seemed friendly so I was a little calm. My deskmate Jane barely talked, but when she did, she seemed really nice.
Although a lot of students might not laugh when I made a strange joke, they weren’t rude. My teachers told us about the high expectations for their school and I was kind of worried because I came from a school where I didn’t have too much work or high expectations. After maths class, we needed to go to another classroom to have history class.

1. 续写词数应为150个左右;

I felt like everyone else knew exactly where they were going, while I was lost in a maze. Suddenly, I heard Jane call my name. With the help of Jane, I found my next classroom just as the bell rang. I slipped into a seat, feeling relieved but still nervous about what the rest of the day would bring.
During lunch, Jane and I joined Dora at a table. At first, I introduced Jane to Dora. Then Dora introduced us to some of her other friends, and although I was still a bit shy, I tried to join in the conversation. It was comforting to have a familiar face and to see that not everyone was as confident as they seemed. As the day went on, I started to feel more comfortable. By the end of the day, I realized that high school wasn’t as intimidating as I had feared, and I was ready to face the challenges ahead with a bit more confidence.
