difficult. It's hard for everyone involved.Luckily,we had a lot of help from the doctors and nurses at
the hospital,"Cath recalls.
By the time Pete was ready to leave the hospital, there was a new ordeal ahead.Caring for

Lounge gave me a place where I could be listened to,and I could get some words of advice or
understanding in retur. It was a way to deal with stress for me in those difficult times, one that

family volunteering..“I decided to volunteer as a Back Up mentor(顾问),to give my time to
supporting family members in similar situations. As a mentor,a lot of what I do is just providing a
listening ear.I'm able to listen to the struggles faced by other families and share suggestions."As well

country.

Social media has opened up our heads so that just about any uninvited guest can wander in.The
real problem isn't technology-it's human nature. We are wired to care about what others think of us.
As the Roman Stoic philosopher Marcus Aurelius observed almost 2,000 years ago,"We all love
ourselves more than other people, but care more about their opinions than our own,"whether they are
friends,strangers,or enemies.
Paying attention to the opinions of others is understandable and,to a certain extent, reasonable.
As the philosopher Richard Foley argues in his book Intellectual Trust in Oneself and Others, you trust
your own opinions;your opinions are influenced and shaped by those of others who are similar to you;
therefore, you trust their opinions as well, whether you want to or not.
Other people's influence on your opinions about the world pales in comparison to their influence
on your opinion of yourself.Evolution (neatly explains why:For virtually all of human
history, humans'survival depended on membership in close-knit(关系紧密的)communities.
Unfortunately, the tendency to want the approval of others is ill-suited to modern life.In the
worst cases, anxiety about the approval of others can blow up into a weakening fear,a psychological
condition called "allodoxaphobia."Even if it doesn't become a mental illness, worrying about the
opinions of others can keep the network in your brain that psychologists call the "behavioral inhibition
system"(BIS)active, limiting your ability to take action.
Just because our overconcemn for other people's opinions of us is natural doesn't mean that it's
unavoidable. The right goal for doing well is not a complete disregard for the opinions of others. That
would be abnormal and dangerous;this tendency could lead to“hubris syndrome(傲慢综合征)”
or even be evidence of antisocial personality disorder. But many of us could become better off if we
learned to care a good deal less than we do.
28.What is the observed tendency of individuals according to Marcus Aurelius?
A.Prioritizing others'viewpoints over their own.
B.Dismissing their own opinions.
C.Valuing strangers'opinions more than friends'.
D.Avoiding forming personal judgments.
29.Why is giving weight to others'opinions considered reasonable?
A.It follows modern social norms.
B.It is based on personal preferences.
C.It correlates with Richard Foley's trust theory.
D.It is shaped by historical community influences.
30.Whatis the likely consequence of activating the BIS?

In Cheryl Strayed's book,Wild,a New York Times bestseller,Strayed hiked 1,100 miles alone
along the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT)for three months. The PCT goes from Mexico to Canada over nine
mountain ranges.“I did it,”she says,“in order to save myself.”
Strayed lost her mother when she was 22.Four years after her mother's death, still lost in
sadness, she packed a bag and flew to California."Hiking the PCT,"she writes,"was my way
back to the person I used to be."
Wild follows Strayed's trip.On her trip, this new hiker faced temperatures of 100 degrees in the
shade on the Modoc Plateau (and record snowfalls in the high mountains, not to mention
bears,snakes and failed waterholes.The path was rarely easy."Sometimes,"writes Strayed,"it
seemed that the PCT was one long mountain I was climbing."Her boots died and she lost most of her
nails. When a branch broke in the night outside her lonely tent, she made herself say out loud,"I am
not afraid."The seasons change, and so does the landscape, but these pages contain little in the way
of topographical (description. It is the inner landscape that this unusual author focuses
more on.
Wild tracks the physical changes as a body gets turned inside out in three months."I grew
stronger,"she writes as the weeks unfold.Body image is a component of this last transformation. The
author refers at several points to issues with weight that dogged her past, and to her confused attitude
to her own physical appearance. Many women will recognize that particular experience, and might
take heart from the resolution Strayed finds in the course of her trip.
Towards the end of Wild, the author writes:"I felt strong and humble and gathered up inside."
Lucky her.

A Japanese Technique for Overcoming Laziness
Almost all of us periodically set ourselves a new goal-and just as often in the end fail to achieve
it.We end up telling ourselves that we'll do it next week, next month or next year.36 That's
because it's difficult to change old habits and try something new.
37 The word itself contains two roots-一‘ckai'(change)and‘zen'(wisdom).twas
invented by Masaaki Imai, who believes this philosophy can be applied just as successfully to the
world of business as it can be to one's personal life. The philosophy includes the idea of the one-
minute principle for self-improvement.At the heart of this method is the idea that a person should
practice doing something for a single minute, every day at the same time.38 Even the laziest
person can carry out a given task for such a small amount of time.
Whether it's doing press-ups or reading a book in a foreign language,in this case the task before
you won't seem like something unpleasant which you have to get through.39 In taking one little
step at a time, you'll move on to the path of self-perfection and achieve great results.
It's important to overcome that lack of confidence you might have in your own abilities,as well as
free yourself from those feelings of guilt and helplessness.40 When you're inspired by such
feelings, you will gradually begin to increase the amount of time you spend doing the task which you
have set yourself. In this way,the one-minute principle lets you see the progress you're making right
before your eyes.
A.Why does it always turn out like this?
B.Clearly,there shouldn't be any trouble.
C.Why does Kaizen mean so much to businessmen?
D.In Japanese culture, there exists the practice of Kaizen.
E.Instead,it'll be an activity which brings you joy and satisfaction.
F.Masaaki Imai is well-known for his work on quality management.
G.You need to experience a sense of victory and success to move forward.

During my middle school days,I was never quite good at sports. No matter how hard I tried,I
couldn't seem to find my footing on the field. This constant struggle left me feeling disheartened and
filled with self-doubt.
One day,we had a soccer match in gym class, and it turned out to be a disaster for me.My
mistakes led to our team's defeat, and I felt a strong sense of disappointment and embarrassment. To
make matters worse, some of my teammates expressed their dissatisfaction, intensifying my self-doubt.
But out of the darkness,a ray of light emerged in the form of Sabrina,a warm-hearted and
caring classmate, who noticed my struggle and understood the significance of supporting each other.
She approached me after the match with a sweet smile on her face, comforting me with an encouraging
voice and offering to give me a hand.
From that moment on,Sabrina became more than just a friend;she became my coach. She often
went out of her way to spend extra time guiding me during our gym classes.I vividly remember the day
when she taught me how to catch a ball. She patiently demonstrated the technique, showing me the
right way to position my hands and how to anticipate the ball's trajectory ()
With each attempt, she provided constructive feedback along with encouragement."Yes,you've
got this!”she would often say,“Well done..Keep pushing forward!”Her sincere belief in my
abilities and her words of encouragement created a safe space for me to make mistakes and learn from
them without fear of judgment.Gradually,I started to overcome my fear of the ball and developed the
confidence to catch it instead of ducking away.
As our interactions increased,so did our bond of friendship.Sabrina would share stories of her
own struggles and victories, saying that challenges were a natural part of the learning process. We
laughed,we supported each other, and we grew together.

1-5 CBAAB 6-10 BCCBA 11-15 CBCAB 16-20 CABAA
根据Latour-Marliac,Aquitaine,France部分中的“The inspiration behind
Monet's water lily paintings can be found at Latour-Marliac""this garden...was where
Monet purchased the many-coloured lilies for his garden”
根据Jonsered Gardens,.near Gothenburg,Sweden部分中的“Once the home
of industrial pioneer William Gibson”可知,William Gibson曾是此园的主人o
for someone with a high-level spinal cord injury can be very hard(照顾一个高位脊髓损伤的人
第三段提到“The Back Up Lounge gave me a place where I could be listened
to.helped me manage much more easily(Back Up Lounge给了我一个可以倾诉的地方,我
更容易应对的方式),”D项“情感慰藉和建议”是对“be listened to”“advice or
understanding”和“deal with stress'”的概括o
根据倒数第二段中的“As a mentor,.a lot of what I do is just providing a
listening ear.I'm able to listen to the struggles faced by other families and share suggestions (fE
根据最后一段中Cath所说的“It was quite emotional winning the award. Its
good to be acknowledged as a volunteer-一I really appreciate it”可知,Cath提到获奖很令人激
根据Marcus Aurelius在第一段中提到的“We all love ourselves more than
other people, but care more about their opinions than our own”可知,虽然我们爱自己胜过爱
根据第三段中的“Evolution neatly explains why:For virtually all of human
history,humans'survival depended on membership in close-knit communities”可知,在几乎所
根据倒数第二段中的“keep..the‘behavioral inhibition system’(BIS)
active, limiting your ability to take action”可知,激活行为抑制系统(BIS)的后果会限制
根据最后一段中的“The right goal for doing well is not a complete disregard
for the opinions of others""But many of us could become better off if we learned to care a
good deal less than we do”可知,作者既不赞成完全不顾别人的看法,也不赞成过度在乎
根据第二段中的“‘Hiking the PCT,’she writes,‘was my way back to the
person I used to be..’”
根据第三段中的“On her trip, this new hiker faced temperatures of 100
degrees in the shade on the Modoc Plateau and record snowfalls in the high mountains, not to
mention bears snakes and failed waterholes. The path was rarely easy""Her boots died and
she lost most of her nails”可知,Strayed在旅途中,不仅要面对莫多克高原阴凉处高达lOO
根据倒数第二段中的“The author refers at several points to issues with weight
..particular experience, and might take heart from the resolution Strayed finds in the course of
的“‘I grew stronger,'she writes as the weeks unfold'”和最后一段中的“the author writes:
‘I felt strong and humble and gathered up inside..’”

38.B根据设空处前的“a person should practice doing something for a single minute, every day at
39.E根据'设空处前的“the task before you won't seem like something unpleasant which you have

设空处后的such feelings指代G项中的a sense of victory and
success

Hello, everyone!I'd like to share my point of view about whether driverless taxis should be
promoted. In my opinion, they should not be widely promoted currently.
Firstly, the technology is not yet fully reliable. There have been reports of accidents caused by
software errors or sensor failures, which pose serious safety risks to passengers and other people.
Secondly,it removes human connection. For newcomers,a driver's friendly guidance is essential,
something a silent machine cannot replace. Finally,if such taxis take over, what will taxi drivers do

for a living instead? So we should think twice before widely promoting driverless taxis.
Thanks for your listening!
Hello, everyone! In my opinion,self-driving taxis should be widely introduced.
First of all, they can significantly improve road safety. As we know, many traffic accidents are
caused by human errors, such as distracted or tired driving.Autonomous vehicles, however, equipped
with advanced sensors and AI,can greatly reduce these risks.Besides, controlled by digital devices,
they can help us ease traffic jams.Through real-time data analysis, these taxis select the most efficient
routes,thereby enhancing traffic efficiency.
In conclusion,self-driving taxis represent a technological leap forward that will make our lives
better.
Thanks for your listening!

The day finally arrived when we had another soccer match in gym class. To tell the truth,at the
very beginning I was quite nervous, though I had seen great progress.I couldn't help turning my head
and looking straight at Sabrina. When our eyes encountered,I saw trust, belief and inspiration. All of
a sudden,my stressed mind relaxed.I stepped onto the field with newfound determination.Sabrina's
belief in me fueled my performance, and to everyone's surprise,I made crucial catches that
contributed to our team's success.
We all cheered, celebrating the victory.I couldn't help but feel a deep sense of gratitude toward
Sabrina. Her wholehearted support and friendship had transformed me from a disheartened player into
a confident athlete.Through this experience,I realized the power of friendship and the importance of
facing up to failure and learning from it.My initial failure in the soccer match had opened the door to
self-discovery and growth. It was through Sabrina's guidance and support that I leamed to overcome
my insecurities,meet challenges,and succeed.

Welcome to my direct broadcasting room.Today I'd like to tell you about my restaurant Goode
Food.I'm Jack Goode and I own this place.It's been a busy-morning.But luckily,I have a very
experienced and reliable head chef working with me.Her name is Karima and she is our "Employee
of the Month"!Today, she's making her special fried eggplant. The flavors are fantastic!Karima
mainly manages the kitchen staff and my brother Lance is mainly in charge of taking reservations.I
spend time doing my favorite thing making comments about different foods and restaurants.I visit
other restaurants, review their dishes and write for an online food and restaurant magazine.I also
have a blog, where I write about food experiences, and vlogs, where I show people how to cook my
favorite recipes!OK.Time to go!Im on my way to pick up three different dishes from a new
takeaway restaurant.Then,I'll meet Kate,and we'll review them.Kate loves to try new dishes.OK,
that's all for this video.
