M: Yeah, we’re going to do most of our activities in the evening. W: Okay, just remember to bring lots of water and snacks with you. Get rest when you can! M: Thanks. I’ll contact you when we’ve got the tents up. M: Quick! We need to go before the shops shut! W: I can’t believe you didn’t buy it. Lily’s birthday’s tomorrow! M: You said you were going to get it last week. It’s not my fault. W: I wanted to, but you had the money. I was waiting for you to give it to me! M: How was Bali, Samantha? W: Brandon, it was wonderful! We had some great hikes. M: Amazing! Did you go fishing or on any boat trips? W: No, but definitely next time! M: I’m so tired of this rain. I wish it would stop! W: I know what you mean, but they say it should clear up by tomorrow. M: That’s good news! I was hoping to do some gardening this weekend. W: Me too. Let’s hope the weather stays sunny. M: Do you want to have lunch? We need to talk. W: Sorry, I can’t. I am hungry, but I have a meeting with some of our customers. Can you do dinner at 8:00 instead? I’ll bring the customer list. M: That new action movie finally came out! W: Oh, what’s it about? M: It’s a sci-fi movie about a group of people trying to survive on a deserted planet. W: Interesting. Is it any good? M: Great! The special effects are fantastic and the story is really exciting although it is a bit long. W: Is it showing at the downtown theater? M: Yeah, at 1 p.m., 4 p.m., 7 p.m., and 11 p.m. W: Okay, 7 p.m. works for me. Are the tickets still $10? M: Yeah, but I’d go again and we can use my 20% discount. W: Excuse me. Could you tell me where the shopping center is? M: Yes, it’s that way. Walk down this street until you reach Main Street. Turn right on Main Street and continue for about four blocks until you reach Beckham Street. Then you’ll see a big white building on your right. It’s across from Central Library. W: Thank you so much! I only came to the town two days ago, so I really don’t know my way around yet. M: Oh, I totally understand how you feel. I also moved here a year ago for my job, and still, I don’t know where everything is! M: You’re planning a trip to Europe in 3 months for the summer. That’s exciting! W: Yes, I’ve always wanted to go there and explore the scenery. It’s been a year and we finally have the time. We’ll first visit France, then Spain, and finally Italy. M: That’ll be amazing! How long will you be there for? W: About 30 days, as I want to visit as many places as I can. M: What are you looking forward to the most? W: I’m really excited about the food! I can’t wait to try all the local dishes. But what I enjoy the most will be learning about their traditions. M: What an adventure! W: Hey Sid, do you have any plans for New Year? M: Not really Ana, just for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Why do you ask? W: I was thinking of throwing a small party at my home and wanted to know if you and the others from college would like to come. M: Yeah, sounds good. W: It’s been a while since we all got together and I think it would be great for everyone to catch up and have some fun. M: Count me in. W: Great. Can you help me with the shopping? I could really use an extra pair of hands. M: Sure, no problem. I’d be happy to help. W: Could we do the main shop on Wednesday the 27th? That would make it easier on the day. M: When should I come over? W: Maybe... about 2:00 in the afternoon? M: How about 3 hours later? I have a meeting that afternoon. W: Okay, I’ll call you closer to the time. M: Sounds good to me. I’ll see you then. M: When I graduated from college, I knew what I wanted to do with my life. I had got a job at a respected company and was on the way to success. However, after a few months, I began to feel dissatisfied and realized that I hadn’t taken the time to explore my interests. I decided to take a gap year and travel around the world. During my gap year, I volunteered abroad. Choosing where to go was difficult, but I finally decided on Peru over Costa Rica, Chile, or even somewhere in Southeast Asia like Thailand. I chose it because it was not too far away and the volunteer placement included both education and environmental protection, which are two of my interests. Other projects could have included building shelters and farm work which could have been tiring but helpful too. Now I have traveled to 10 countries. Taking a gap year changed my likes and taught me a lot. Now, I am ready to settle down in one place and use the skills I’ve learnt to build the community for the foreseeable future. 根据Description部分第一段中的“To avoid dying out, we will have to find a new home planet ... to live.” 根据“¥203.00”可知,书的价格为203元;根据“Weight: 620g”可知,书的重量为620克;根据Description部分第二段中的“In this challenging and interesting book, Christopher Mason argues that we have a duty to do just that.” 故选A。 23. 解析:根据文章第二段“I looked up plenty of materials and found a key fact: most professional astronauts majored in Aerospace Engineering. Such variations are common as new data emerges ...” 根据第四段“The ESA said, if the asteroid is smaller, the effect might be similar to that of the Tunguska event, which flattened thousands of square kilometres of forest in Siberia in 1908. But if the asteroid is larger, close to 100 metres in diameter, the effect will be significantly worse.” 根据第五段“In 2022 they successfully changed an asteroidˈs orbit by crashing a spacecraft into it …” 故选A项。 根据第一段“These are man-made objects in orbit that no longer serve a useful purpose: old satellites, rocket stages and tiny pieces of debris from collisions or explosions. 根据第二段“Yet for decades, countries and private companies treated space as a free and uncontrolled dump. Launching satellites was seen as a symbol of technological progress and national pride, with little thought given to the long-term costs of leaving debris behind. Now, the bad result of this short-sightedness is appearing. 根据文末“As private companies hurry to launch large groups of new satellites, the need for ethical and sustainable exploration is more important than ever. We must balance today’s dreams with the needs of tomorrow, ensuring that space remains accessible for all humanity in the future. practice basic tasks for years与下文中的repetition相呼应。 38. nothing ever goes according to plan呼应上文中的problems和下文中的“what if” situations。 39. F项(例如,写作时不要过于关注单个句子)点明例子的具体场景是写作,与下文中的story相呼应,donˈt pay too much attention to a single sentence也对写作场景下的not moments进行了说明,故符合语境。 think about 思考;talk about 谈论;learn about 了解,均不符合语境。 42. 44. B. be suitable to do sth. 45. A. escape Earth’s gravity 47. A. step onto the moon 50. C. human presence in space 53. C. explore the universe/space 55. A. share research results 56. was launched 57.  a 58. our 59. entering 60. It 61. which 62. 59. Shortly after …… 60. It 考查It is/was…that… 本句缺少句型开头的形式主语It,强调主语the crew 故填It。 62. Devoted 固定短语 be devoted to(致力于),句首作状语省略be动词,首字母大写。 64.  greater 根据文中“......and bring more......” 65. benefits 固定搭配 bring benefits to…,“给…… more benefits “更多益处”。 A Proposal Dear classmates, Space exploration is meaningful. It also inspires us to stick to our dreams. Therefore, we should pay attention to our country’s space cause. Let’s learn more space knowledge and love science. Class Two 第二节 【范文】 “So, what’s in the bag?” Debbie asked loudly with a smile. “Just my clothes, school books, papers and pens,” I replied. Surprise registered on her face. I handed her the bag, sighing, “You can check it.” She eagerly unzipped the fuzzy bag. When she saw my thick sweater, she burst into a giggle. “Did you do this in California?” “No, in California I had a locker,” I told her. “But there weren’t enough lockers when I came here.” She went double with laughter. “How silly you are!” I looked at her, eyes wide with confusion. She stopped her laughter, asking, “Why not share the locker with me?” she laughed, staring at the stuff in my bag.“You? Can I?” I asked with surprise. She gave me a firm nod. Later, with my bag becoming smaller, I turned to be a normal girl. Knowing there weren’t drugs or strange things in it, the kids always touched it with affection. And due to the unique design, some kids even asked, “How can I get one the same as yours?” I always smiled, “If you want, I will ask my mom to make it for you.” From then on, I never felt helpless, alone or miserable. 【续写思路】 “So, what’s in the bag?” Debbie asked loudly with a smile. I told her what was in the bag. She didn’t believe me. I gave her the bag. She laughed. She stopped her laughter, asking, “Why not share the locker with me?” I agreed. We became good friends. I didn’t feel lonely any more. I adapted to the new school. Mom gave me an ugly homemade book bag, and unwilling to hurt Mom’s heart, I accepted it.(reluctant) 2. The next day at the new school, I was joked by the students about the big furry bag. 3. No storage available for me, I had to put all my stuff in my big bag which made me look strange. 4. I was teased by other students and I hated the bag. (sad) 5. One day, I was assigned to work with a popular girl and I moved towards her with the big bag. 1. To avoid dying out, we will have to find a new home planet, perhaps even a new solar system, to live. In this challenging and interesting book, Christopher Mason argues that we have a duty to do just that. We have a responsibility to act—not only for us human beings but for all other creatures on which we depend. Mason argues that our technology that has enabled us to build rockets and land on other planets can be applied to redesigning biology so that we can live on those planets. And he makes a 500-year plan for carrying out the huge project. As they are today, our weak human bodies could never survive travel to another planet. Mason describes the bad effects that long-term space travel had on astronaut Scott Kelly, who returned from a year on the International Space Station with changes to his blood, bones, and genes(基因). Mason suggests a ten-period, 500-year programme that would engineer our body so that humans can stand the extreme(极端的) environments of outer space—with the final goal of achieving human settlement of new solar systems. He makes a roadmap of which solar systems to visit first, and uses biotechnology and genetics to offer a unique vision of the universe to come. Weight: 620 g Size: 203 mm×137 mm 21.What does Mason suggest doing in his book? A. Preventing creatures from dying out. B. Looking for a new home in space. C. Protecting our home planet. D. Watching over the activities of the sun. 22.Which of the following is unclear about the book? A. The publisher. B. The price. C. The weight. D. The author. 23.Who will buy this book probably? A. People who care about the environment. B. People who pay more attention to animals. C. People who are interested in human history. D. People who want to know more about space. B As a little kid, I had a big dream of being an astronaut, so I made preparations for it from an early age. When I entered junior high school, I started to think about my future study. I wondered what subjects I needed to learn in college to become a qualified astronaut. I looked up plenty of materials and found a key fact: most professional astronauts majored in Aerospace Engineering. That was exactly what I needed for my dream. Therefore, when I planned my college application, I only chose universities that offered Aerospace Engineering courses. Finally, I was admitted to Princeton University and studied Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. At first, I only knew this major was closely connected with astronauts. However, I had no clear idea about the daily work of engineering. Everything changed after my first year of college. I joined a summer internship in a university professor’s lab. The lab’s main research was about the cooperation of robot systems. This special experience let me truly understand what engineering work was like. I became greatly interested in engineering research after the internship. Later, I took part in more similar research projects at Rice University. Step by step, I realized that scientific research was what I really loved and wanted to stick to. To improve my professional ability, I kept studying and got my master’s degree and Ph.D. in aerospace fields. I also finished an internship at NASA, where I took part in the research and development of two small space satellites. Now, I work in a professional research and development laboratory. My favorite part of my job is putting forward new research ideas and seeing how scientific research can change and improve people’s daily lives. No chances come easily. I always paid close attention to the latest recruitment information on university websites. With continuous exploration and strong curiosity, I gained lots of precious practical experience outside textbooks. For teenagers who love engineering, Aerospace Engineering is a wonderful choice. C Scientists have warned that the risk of a large space rock named 2024 YR4 striking Earth in 2032 has slightly increased. Recent calculations show a 1%-3% chance of impact, but there is still a 97%-99% probability that this near-Earth asteroid (小行星) will miss our planet. The chance is expected to go up and down as researchers enhance their understanding of its orbit. Discovered in December 2023 by a Chilean telescope, 2024 YR4 measures 40-90 metres wide. NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA) plan to observe it in March using the Webb Telescope before it becomes unobservable until 2028. The initial impact chance was just over 1%, later rising to 3%, though NASA stresses the likelihood remains "extremely low". Experts say it’s too soon to panic. Larry Denneau of the University of Hawaii notes it is "a curiosity", urging patience for further analysis. Paul Chodas of NASA’s Near-Earth Object Studies Centre echoes this, stating rising probabilities are expected and the risk will likely disappear. Such variations are common as new data emerges, similar to the 2021 case of asteroid Apophis, where initial concerns were later dismissed after precise observations. Since the details are uncertain, it is unclear where it may hit and what the possible effect will be should it strike Earth. The ESA said, if the asteroid is smaller, the effect might be similar to that of the Tunguska event, which flattened thousands of square kilometres of forest in Siberia in 1908. But if the asteroid is larger, close to 100 metres in diameter, the effect will be significantly worse. Once the Webb Telescope provides precise measurements, NASA will be able to assess the threat level. NASA already has some experience deflecting an asteroid. In 2022 they successfully changed an asteroid’s orbit by crashing a spacecraft into it, though larger asteroids might require more complex strategies. For now, experts agree there is no immediate cause for concern. Public awareness is vital, but scientific consensus (共识) remains: while monitoring continues, 2024 YR4 poses no actionable risk. As Chodas reassures, "This is part of the process—uncertainty decreases with time and data." 28.What may cause the change in the probability of 2024 YR4ˈs impact? A. Changes in the asteroid’s size. B. Improvements in orbital calculations. C. Public concern and media influence. D. Limitations of telescope technology. 29.Why do experts advise against panic about the asteroid? A. It will pass Earth safely in 2028. B. It is too small in size to cause damage. C. Previous defense missions have already succeeded. D. The impact chance is likely to drop with more data. 30.What is Paragraph 4 mainly about? A. The methods of asteroid measurement. B. The potential damage of asteroids in different sizes. C. The increasing probability of the asteroid striking Earth. D. The functions of the Webb Telescope in asteroid detection. 31.What does the underlined word "deflecting" in Paragraph 5 probably mean? A. Redirecting. B. Remapping. C. Observing. D. Destroying D The Cost of Space Junk Space exploration has brought humans great achievements, from landing on the moon to sending rovers to Mars, but it has also left a worrying legacy (遗留问题) — space junk. These are man-made objects in orbit that no longer serve a useful purpose: old satellites, rocket stages and tiny pieces of debris (碎片) from collisions (碰撞) or explosions. Today, there are millions of such items orbiting Earth, and they are becoming a danger to active satellites and manned space flights. The problem is not new. As early as the 1970s, scientists warned that space could become full of waste if no action was taken. Yet for decades, countries and private companies treated space as a free and uncontrolled dump (垃圾场). Launching satellites was seen as a symbol of technological progress and national pride, with little thought given to the long-term costs of leaving debris behind. Now, the bad result of this short-sightedness is appearing. A single collision between two large pieces of junk could create thousands of new small pieces, starting a dangerous chain reaction called the Kessler Syndrome. This would soon make important orbits unusable, breaking global communications, weather forecasting, and essential GPS systems that people use every day. The economic loss would be big — trillions (万亿) of dollars, according to some guesses, affecting industries from transportation to agriculture. Worse, it could endanger future space missions, including those aimed at exploring other planets and even building human homes beyond Earth. Scientists have suggested many ways to solve this crisis-using large nets or powerful lasers (激光) to catch and remove small debris, while others are developing reusable spacecraft designed to collect old satellites. There are also calls for strict international rules to make satellite operators clean up their old machines after they stop working. But these efforts cost much money and require full global cooperation. Many countries are unwilling to pay for cleanup when they continue to benefit from the free use of space. This leads to a deeper question: What is the true value of space? Is it a limitless resource for short-term use, or a shared global heritage that must be protected for future generations? As private companies hurry to launch large groups of new satellites, the need for ethical (道德的) and sustainable exploration is more important than ever. We must balance today’s dreams with the needs of tomorrow, ensuring that space remains accessible for all humanity in the future. 32. What can we learn about space junk? A. It is mainly made up of natural space rocks. B. It refers to man-made objects no longer useful in space. C. It does little harm to working satellites. D. It has existed in space for only a short time. 33. Why did space junk become a serious problem? A. Space was treated as a free dump without rules. B. Launching satellites was too expensive. C. Scientists failed to predict the risk. D. Private companies produced too many satellites. 34. What is the author’s attitude toward space exploration? A. Critical of all private space projects. B. Concerned about sustainability and ethics. C. Optimistic about future solutions. D. Doubtful about international cooperation. 35. What is the best title for the text? A. The Future of Manned Space Flight B. Solutions to the Space Debris Crisis C. Space Junk: A Hidden Cost of Exploration D. The Value of International Cooperation You’ve watched astronauts float calmly through the International Space Station while you struggle to read an email. It seems that they’re born different.     36  The same habits that keep them alive in orbit can also make you a better thinker, creator, and problem solver on Earth.    37 They do this not because they love repetition, but because it frees up their brain for real emergencies. In daily life, having regular habits can help you focus on more important work. The more you turn your daily routines (日常生活) into habits, the more mental space you free up for creativity. Second, astronauts prepare for problems before they happen.   38  That’s why they train for many "what if" situations. Similarly, when studying or working, it helps to predict difficulties and prepare for them. Another helpful habit is keeping records. Astronauts keep detailed mission logs (日志) during their stay. Recording what worked and what didn’t helps them improve and is good for their mental health during long space missions. You can benefit from the same practice.  39     Finally, astronauts don’t just fix one wire (电线); they figure out how the whole system works together. Think in systems, not moments.    40    You should think about how the parts of the story are connected. This way of thinking helps you avoid getting lost in the details and see the big picture. A.You might assume they’re just built special. B.They know nothing ever goes according to plan. C.However, what makes them special isn’t talent—it’s habit. D.First, astronauts practice basic tasks for years until they’re natural. E.If you start trying those space habits, you’ll find you can think more clearly. F.For example, when you write, don’t pay too much attention to a single sentence. G.Record when and where you work best, and you’ll see what improves your creativity. For thousands of years, human beings have looked up at the starry sky and asked endless questions. Are we the only living creatures in the universe? What mysteries lie beyond our planet? People have always 41 about the unknown world of space. Nowadays, space exploration is no longer just a distant dream. Scientists around the world have spent decades designing advanced spacecraft to carry astronauts into space and make new 42 . Our dream of exploring outer space has finally started to come 43 . Scientists are also trying their best to find other planets that are 44 enough to support life, just like the Earth. Before the mid-20th century, travelling into space seemed impossible for most people. But brave scientists never gave up. After countless failures and experiments, they successfully developed powerful rockets that could 45 Earth’s gravity. In 1957, the first man-made satellite was sent into space. Later, the first astronaut 46 space and set a historic record. Years after that, human beings 47 onto the moon, which became one of the greatest space 48 in history. Since then, more amazing projects have been carried out. Some space probes have travelled deep into the universe and still 49 valuable data back to Earth today. The International Space Station has kept a lasting human 50 in space, where astronauts from different countries live and work together. However, space exploration is never easy. It is filled with unexpected 51 . Several serious accidents have taken the lives of brave astronauts, proving that this career is really 52 . Yet no difficulty can stop humans from 53 the universe. On the contrary, these challenges push scientists to invent better equipment to keep astronauts 54 . At present, countries worldwide cooperate closely to 55 research results and make joint progress. It was ugly red, huge, and furry with little running horses along each side and my name on one side. I knew Mom had spent all day happily sewing it. Though unwilling to accept it, the last thing I wanted to do was to hurt Mom’s feelings. Eventually, I picked up the gift. The next day I was to start seventh grade at a new school, in a new state, in the middle of the school year. I heard the whispers. “Have you seen the new girl? She’s from California. Did you see that big furry bag?” Then there were giggles. Because I started school in the middle of the year, all of the lockers (储物柜) had been assigned to other kids. There was no storage available for me, so I was forced to put all my stuff in the oversized fuzzy bag, making me seem suspicious. I soon became known as “the strange girl with the huge, furry horse bag.” Wild stories flew back and forth about what I kept in the bag that never left my side. “Drugs?” some kids wondered. “Clothes? Is she homeless?” There was nothing interesting in that bag, just my coat during cold weather, school books, papers and pens. Eventually, most students pretty much ignored me, but some of the kids teased me about the fuzzy horse bag. People grabbed at it and pretended to pat it like a dog. My teachers didn’t seem to notice, probably because I didn’t ever complain or ask for help. As the year progressed, I started to hate that bag. I blamed all my problems on it. I felt helpless and alone, miserable, and homesick for California and my old friends. One day towards the end of the school year, my math teacher assigned each student a partner to work with on word problems. I was told to work with Debbie, a popular redheaded girl. She smiled and waved me over towards her desk, so I grabbed my bag and quietly moved towards her. As I sat down, I realized that I had never spoken to her before. “So, what’s in the bag?” Debbie asked loudly with a smile. ———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— “Why not share the locker with me?” she laughed, staring at the stuff in my bag. Hello. international friends club, can I help you?
