W: You’re listening to Technology and Lives, where you can get the latest scientific updates. Today I’ll share with you a new arrival: a camera called AMI-EV. Inspired by doctors explaining eye function, a team of computer scientists from the University of Maryland developed it to help robots see clearly. We all know that traditional cameras often struggle with unclear images when things move quickly. AMI-EV uses an event sensor rather than an image sensor to detect changes in light quickly and a spinning lens to copy these tiny eye movements to get focused, keeping the image clear and steady. Botao He, the team’s leader, said they also created software to adjust for the lens’s movement. And Professor Yiannis Aloimonos, another researcher, sees this as a major step forward in robotic vision and other fields, like virtual reality and self-driving cars. Okay, now let’s take a break. We’ll continue discussing the camera’s construction after a brief advertisement. A Each year Canada Chocolate Town celebrates its community’s rich and delicious heritage with its annual Chocolate Fest. This year, this week-long, family-oriented festival is full of different activities, all things chocolate-related.(加拿大巧克力镇每年都会举办一年一度的巧克力节,庆祝其社区丰富而美味的传统。 A。 B Tom was pleased to get a role in the school play. It wasn’t a major role and he had only four or five lines. However, he worked hard at perfecting the lines, repeating them in front of a mirror over and over again, as his drama teacher had suggested. He had great fun rehearsing (排练) with the older students. Then finally the big night came. Suddenly, things felt different. The theater was full of audience. He looked around at those experienced actors and saw the confidence they’d shown at rehearsal seemed to have disappeared. Everyone was on edge. When Tom got on stage, he couldn’t help hurrying into the words he had repeated so many times before. He tried to slow down but, thinking about doing that, he suddenly realized he had missed a sentence. With no time to think it over, he carried on. When he stepped off the stage, his hands felt sweaty and his heart was racing. He didn’t think about what he had achieved. Instead, he was beating himself up for the mistake that he had made. The audience, of course, didn’t know he had missed a sentence. In fact, no one noticed it except his drama teacher. “Well done, ” she said. “Acting is like learning to ride a bike. You may fall off a few times, yet each time you get back on, you do it better. Your performance may not have been perfect but, for your first time, it was great. ” The drama teacher’s words put Tom’s mind at ease. He caught the look of his face in a mirror, which was smiling back at him. Without knowing it, he raised two hands with his thumbs (拇指)up. 24. What do we know about Tom before the big night? A. He was sad about his limited lines. B. He expected a major role in the play. C. He worked hard to prepare for the play. D. He was confident of the play’s success. 25. How did Tom feel when he finished the performance? A. Regretful. B. Relieved. C. Hopeful. D. Confused. 26. Why did Tom raise his hands with thumbs up in the end? A. He got his teacher’s forgiveness. B. He made peace with his imperfection. C. He decided to correct his mistakes. D. He admired his own face in the mirror. 27. What message does the author seem to convey in the text? A. Well begun, half done. B. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. C. Practice makes perfect. D. Let your fault make you better, not bitter. C 25. A 26. B 27. 根据第一段中“ However, he worked hard at perfecting the lines, repeating them in front of a mirror over and over again, as his drama teacher had suggested. He had great fun rehearsing (排练) with the older students. Then finally the big night came.(然而,正如他的戏剧老师所建议的那样,他努力完善台词,在镜子前一遍又一遍地重复它们。 根据第二段中“When he stepped off the stage, his hands felt sweaty and his heart was racing. He didn’t think about what he had achieved. Instead, he was beating himself up for the mistake that he had made.(当他走下舞台时,他的手感到出汗,心跳加速。 根据第三段中“Acting is like learning to ride a bike. You may fall off a few times, yet each time you get back on, you do it better. Your performance may not have been perfect but, for your first time, it was great. 和最后一段中“The drama teacher’s words put Tom’s mind at ease. He caught the look of his face in a mirror, which was smiling back at him. Without knowing it, he raised two hands with his thumbs (拇指)up.(戏剧老师的话使汤姆放心了。 根据第三段中“Acting is like learning to ride a bike. You may fall off a few times, yet each time you get back on, you do it better. Your performance may not have been perfect but, for your first time, it was great. 和最后一段中“The drama teacher’s words put Tom’s mind at ease. He caught the look of his face in a mirror, which was smiling back at him. Without knowing it, he raised two hands with his thumbs (拇指)up.(戏剧老师的话使汤姆放心了。 D。 C The simple act of blowing out birthday candles carries a rich history dating back thousands of years. The tradition dates back to ancient Greece, where people honored Artemis, goddess of the moon, with round honey cakes called “nouton-gonosupahon”. Historians like Marie Nicola suggest candlelight likely represented moonlight during lunar celebrations. “Fire represented the presence of gods across Indo-European cultures,” notes Nicola. The Romans later adopted these customs, adding candlelit cakes into birthday celebrations as their empire expanded. By the Middle Ages, Germans developed their own candle tradition through Kinderfest, a children’s festival. People believed children were vulnerable (易受伤害的) to bad spirits on their birthdays. Candles burned all day, their smoke carrying protective prayers heavenward. German writer Goethe’s 1799 account of his 52nd birthday cake with 50 candles marks one of the earliest documented uses matching modern practice. The 19th century saw the tradition develop quickly. Swiss records from 1881 describe cakes with candles representing each year of life-the first clear documentation of today’s celebration. Germans then brought the custom to America, where it gained new meaning: blowing out all candles in one breath ensured wishes come true. Mass production and media promoted the tradition worldwide. By the 1920s, numbered candle sets began to be sold, while Disney’s 1931 Mickey Mouse cartoon “The Birthday Party” cemented the image in popular culture. After World War II, the fixed practice spread globally, from Japan adopting it in the 1950s to Hallmark cards featuring candle imagery. What began as spiritual protection became a universal celebration of life-proving even ancient celebrations can develop into joyful traditions. As Nicola reflects, “That single breath blowing out candles still carries shadows of ancient prayers, now transformed into wishes for the future.” 28. What can be known about blowing out birthday candles in paragraph 1? A. It was related to belief. B. It stands for long life. C. It adds light to birthday. D. It came from Rome. 29. How is this text developed? A. By listing examples. B. By following time order. C. By listing events. D. By telling stories. 30. What is the probable meaning of the underlined word “cemented” in paragraph 4? A. Copied. B. Suggested. C. Strengthened. D. Won. 31. What can be the best title of this text? A. Customs Change over Time. B. Birthday Candles Represent Ages. C. Birthday Cakes Have a Long History. D. Blowing out Birthday Candles Is Ancient. A 29. B 30. C 31. 根据第一段中的“Historians like Marie Nicola suggest candlelight likely represented moonlight during lunar celebrations. ‘Fire represented the presence of gods across Indo-European cultures,’ notes Nicola. The Romans later adopted these customs, adding candlelit cakes into birthday celebrations as their empire expanded. 文中明确出现了多个时间线索:“ancient Greece (古希腊)”“the Romans (罗马时期)”“the Middle Ages (中世纪)”“The 19th century (19世纪)”“By the 1920s (到20世纪20年代)”“1931”“After World War II (二战后)”“the 1950s (20世纪50年代)”。 根据第四段中的“Mass production and media promoted the tradition worldwide. By the 1920s, numbered candle sets began to be sold, while Disney’s 1931 Mickey Mouse cartoon “The Birthday Party”cemented the image in popular culture. 文章开篇点明“The simple act of blowing out birthday candles carries a rich history dating back thousands of years. (吹灭生日蜡烛这一简单行为,其历史可追溯至数千年前,蕴含着丰富的文化内涵。)”吹生日蜡烛的简单行为有着数千年的丰富历史,随后按时间顺序追溯其从古希腊到现代的发展历程,结尾总结 “What began as spiritual protection became a universal celebration of life-proving even ancient celebrations can develop into joyful traditions. (这一最初作为精神庇护的行为,如今已演变为全球性的生命庆典——这一转变也证明,即便是古老的庆祝方式,也能发展成充满欢乐的传统。)”这一始于精神保护的行为,如今已成为全球性的生命庆典。选项D(吹生日蜡烛是古老的传统)既点明核心行为,又体现“历史悠久”的主旨,符合全文内容,故选D。 D A challenge is a situation that tests your abilities. It needs hard work and courage to get through. Challenges come from many sources, and knowing where they come from is the first step toward dealing with them well. The sources of challenges are often two-part: external (外部的) and internal. External challenges come from the world around you. For example, moving to a new school, getting used to new study methods, or facing more competition from classmates. Unexpected things, like sudden exams or group project pressure, can also be external challenges. Internal challenges come from yourself. They might be not having enough skills, not knowing some knowledge, or feeling frightened and unsure about yourself — these things can slow down your progress. Often, the hardest challenges mix both external pressure and internal worries. Successfully managing challenges requires a step-by-step method. First, look at the situation clearly and honestly. If a challenge feels too big, divide it into small, easy-to-do tasks. For example, instead of being unconfident with a big project, focus on completing the first small research. Secondly, actively look for resources (资源) and support. This could be about learning new knowledge through study, improving skills with practice, or depending on the guidance of teachers and the encouragement of friends. Having people to support you gives not only useful tips but also courage and strength. Finally, build resilience. Setbacks (挫折) are a certain part on the path to any meaningful goal — they might make you feel down. The key is to stand up again, learn from what went wrong, and keep moving toward your goal. In short, challenges are something you can’t avoid, and they’re necessary for growth. By understanding where they come from, designing a strategic plan, and sticking to it without giving up, you can turn difficulties into chances to become better — both in your studies and personal life. 32. Which can be considered an internal source of challenges? A. A new living environment. B. Difficult Gaokao questions. C. Uncertainty about the future. D. The development of AI technology. 33. What should we do firstly when learning to use a video editing app according to the passage? A. Ask friends for encouragement. B. Master its basic uses one by one. C. Wait to see if it becomes easier. D. Learn new editing skills with practice. 34. What does the underlined word “resilience” in paragraph 3 mean? A. The ability to get back up. B. The decision to keep going. C. The gift for solving problems. D. The knowledge of setting goals. 35. What is the writer’s opinion on challenges? A. They set back one’s growth. B. They are a must for success. C. They can be managed wisely. D. They come from inner thoughts. C 33. B 34. A 35. 根据第二段“Internal challenges come from yourself. They might be not having enough skills, not knowing some knowledge, or feeling frightened and unsure about yourself — these things can slow down your progress.(内部的挑战来自你自己。它们可能是没有足够的技能,不知道一些知识,或者对自己感到害怕和不确定——这些事情会减缓你的进步。)”可知,对未来的不确定性属于对自身的不确定,属于挑战的内部来源。故选C。 【33题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“If a challenge feels too big, divide it into small, easy-to-do tasks. For example, instead of being unconfident with a big project, focus on completing the first small research.(如果一个挑战感觉太大,把它分成小的、容易完成的任务。例如,与其对一个大项目不自信,不如专注于完成第一个小研究。)”可知,当学习使用视频编辑应用程序时,我们首先应该逐一掌握它的基本用途。故选B。 【34题详解】 词句猜测题。根据下文“Setbacks are a certain part on the path to any meaningful goal — they might make you feel down. The key is to stand up again, learn from what went wrong, and keep moving toward your goal.(挫折是实现任何有意义目标的必经之路,它可能会让你感到沮丧。关键在于重新振作,从失误中吸取教训,继续朝着目标迈进。)”可知,下文用“遭遇挫折后重新振作、吸取教训继续前行”的描述,解释了resilience的含义。这个单词的核心是“面对挫折快速恢复的能力”,也就是韧性。故选A。 根据最后一段“In short, challenges are something you can’t avoid, and they’re necessary for growth. By understanding where they come from, designing a strategic plan, and sticking to it without giving up, you can turn difficulties into chances to become better — both in your studies and personal life.(简而言之,挑战是你无法避免的,它们对成长是必要的。通过了解它们来自哪里,设计一个战略计划,并坚持不懈地执行,你可以把困难变成变得更好的机会——无论是在学习上还是在个人生活中。)”可知,作者认为挑战可以被明智地管理。故选C。 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Living a healthy life is all about choosing to make healthy choices each day. There was nothing to it. Jenna and Jeff knew exactly what to do. The big day came at last. The alarm rang at 6 a.m. The pair went down the stairs quietly to the kitchen. They decided to boil the porridge first. They put some rice into a pot of water and left it to boil while they made the French toast. Jeff broke two eggs into a plate and added in some milk. Jenna found the bread and put two slices into the egg mixture. Next, Jeff turned on the second stove burner to heat up the frying pan. Everything was going smoothly until Jeff started frying the bread. The pan was too hot and the bread turned black within seconds. Jenna threw the burnt piece into the sink and put in the other slice of bread. This time, she turned down the fire so it cooked nicely. Then Jeff noticed steam shooting out of the pot and the lid starting to shake. The next minute, the porridge boiled over and put out the fire. Jenna panicked. Thankfully, Jeff stayed calm and turned off the gas quickly. But the stove was a mess now. Jenna told Jeff to clean it up so they could continue to cook the rest of the porridge. But Jeff’s hand touched the hot burner and he gave a cry of pain. Jenna made him put his hand in cold water. Then she caught the smell of burning. Oh dear! B Tom was pleased to get a role in the school play. C The simple act of blowing out birthday candles carries a rich history dating back thousands of years. 29. What is the probable meaning of the underlined word “cemented” in paragraph 4? A. Copied. B. Suggested. C. Strengthened. D. Won. 31. What can be the best title of this text? A. D A challenge is a situation that tests your abilities. Living a healthy life is all about choosing to make healthy choices each day.
