In Xichuan, Henan Province, a father and son have created a green achievement over 40 years. The Taizi Mountain Forest Farm was once a poor wasteland — only rocks and dust, with no plants growing there. But now, it has become a thick 22-square-kilometer forest! This forest is like a big “green lung” for the Danjiangkou Reservoir, which provides drinking water for millions of people in Beijing and Tianjin.
The story started decades ago with Chen Renfan, an old forest ranger (护林员). At that time, there were no roads or electricity in the mountains. Chen and his teammates had to dig holes in the rocks and carry soil up steep hills just to plant one young tree. During his career, Chen walked more than 50,000 kilometers and wore out 300 pairs of shoes to protect the trees. Their hard work turned the “stony desert” green.
Now, Chen’s son, Chen Botao, takes over the job. Unlike his father, who patrolled (巡逻) the woods on foot all day, Botao uses high-tech tools. With a drone, he can check the whole forest in just 30 minutes! The father’s hard work and the son’s new technology together keep the forest healthy.
For the Chen family, this is not just a job, but it’s a family legacy (传承). They want to keep the water clean and the trees tall for the next generation of forest guardians.
50. Why is the forest called a “green lung”?
A. It helps people breathe more easily.
B. It looks like a human lung in shape.
C. It offers clean water for many people.
51. What does the underlined word “decades” in Paragraph 2 probably means?
A. Forty years
B. A few years
C. Dozens of years
52. What is the main difference between Chen Renfan and his son in their work?
A. The tools they use to check the forest.
B. The place where they patrol the forest.
C. The number of trees they plant each year.
53. What’s the main idea of the passage?
A. To introduce the life of two forest rangers in Henan.
B. To show the importance of protecting drinking water.
C. To tell how father and son built forest and passed on work.

Cambodia (柬埔寨 ) has announced a visa-free (免签) policy for Chinese citizens, effective from June 15 to October 15,2026. Chinese travelers no longer need to apply for visas or pay additional fees. They only need to complete an electronic entry (许可) card before arrival, and each visit allows a stay of up to 14 days. This move aims to make travel easier and improve cultural exchanges between the two countries.
Cambodia is a wonderful travel place to visit. It is famous for Angkor Wat, the world-famous ancient temple group. It also has beautiful beaches in Sihanoukville and a lively culture in Phnom Penh. Friendly local people and low travel costs make it a great choice — less crowded than other popular places nearby.
Tourism is a key part of Cambodia’s economy. China is a major source market for tourists, with nearly 1 million Chinese visitors in the first 10 months of 2025. The visa-free period covers China’s summer vacation, helping Cambodia try to get tourists with other countries. Travelers must remember: passports must be valid (有效的) for at least six months upon entry.
This policy shows the deep friendship between China and Cambodia. It benefits both sides: it cuts costs and makes trips easier for Chinese tourists, and helps hotels, restaurants, and shopping businesses in Cambodia. It also strengthens people-to-people ties and supports deeper cooperation in various fields.
54. How does the writer start the passage?
A. By asking a question.
B. By giving a recent announcement.
C. By describing a personal experience.
55. What does the word “It” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A. Cambodia B. Angkor Wat C. Sihanoukville
56. What can we infer from the visa-free period (June 15 to October 15, 2026)?
A. It requires Chinese tourists to stay for more than 14 days.
B. It is the only time when Chinese tourists can visit Cambodia.
C. It is specially set to attract Chinese tourists during their summer vacation.
57 What is the main purpose of this passage?
A. To encourage Chinese tourists to visit Cambodia.
B. To compare Cambodia with other popular travel places.
C. To introduce Cambodia’s visa-free policy and its benefits.
