For years, Robyn Elman, a nature advocate, has been passionately raising the endangered monarch butterflies in the cozy corner of her backyard. She collects the butterfly eggs from the milkweed plants — the only food for these delicate creatures — alongside the highways. Each time she goes on her journey to the highways, she hopes these little eggs, which are as precious as hidden treasures, will hatch (孵化) into many beautiful creatures. They will slowly make the group which is getting smaller gradually breathe new life.
But reality destroyed her hopes last year. Instead of being greeted by the green milkweed plants, she was met with the desolate sight of mowed stubs (修剪过的草茬) and destroyed eggs. The milkweed plants had been cut down, and all left were short stubs. She felt a deep sense of loss. “Is there really no hope for these delicate, flying creatures?” she whispered to herself, her heart as heavy as a big piece of lead.
Even as pain consumed her, Robyn remained determined. She teamed up with other nature lovers. They reached out to Frank Coniglio, the city’s director of highway maintenance, urging him to cut the butterflies a break. At first, Frank was doubtful. He thought, “How important can this be? What difference will it make? It’s just some butterflies and plants.” But as Robyn and her friends poured out their worries, and kept explaining the importance of the issue, Frank began to understand. He finally realised, “What happens to the butterflies is going to happen to us, isn’t it?”, as if a light bulb had suddenly switched on in his mind.
Frank went to work on studying more about monarch butterflies, and finally he supported their cause, and took decisive action. He stopped mowing in certain areas, drawing an invisible line of protection. So far, around 20 patches of milkweed plants, like oases in the urban desert, have been protected across the city. “We’re making a real difference,” Frank said proudly.
Thanks to their combined efforts, the monarch butterflies now have a brighter future, and the city’s ecosystem is on the path to positive transformation.
24.As a nature advocate, Robyn Elman ________.
A.grows some milkweed in her backyard
B.raises butterflies alongside the highway
C.collects butterfly eggs and hatches them
D.studies milkweed and proves them valuable
25.How did Robyn feel upon seeing the mowed stubs?
A.Upset and disappointed. B.Angry and annoyed.
C.Embarrassed and ashamed. D.Terrified and confused.
26.What did Frank do to help protect the monarch butterflies?
A.He raised the awareness of the public.
B.He studied the local natural ecosystem.
C.He protected milkweed in certain areas.
D.He moved the butterflies to a safe place.
27.What can we conclude from this passage?
A.Wildlife conservation takes a back seat to urban development.
B.Government policies play a main role in wildlife conservation.
C.The damage of habitats has long-term impact on the ecosystem.

Few things delight children, or irritate their parents, as much as screen time. Parents nag their children to put down their digital devices and pick up a book or a football. Some countries are banning social media for under-16s.
The worry may be focused on the wrong age group. Now a new generation of grandparents are adding to their screen time with smartphones, iPads and game consoles. The result is epic screen sessions, which take up more than half of their waking hours.
The digitization of old age is a good thing. Facebook and WhatsApp bring daily updates from old friends and faraway grandchildren. Zoom transports church, book clubs and doctors’appointments into the home. Older people are also insulated (使隔离) from some of the on-screen risks that threaten teenagers. They have already formed their key real-life relationships, and so are less in danger of the “social stunting” that screen-obsessed children supposedly suffer.
Yet as retirement moves online there will be costs that society must address. Older folks’ devices are usually connected to credit cards. Door-to-door cheat can now go iPad-to-iPad. Older people also appear to be more likely susceptible to online scam which artificial intelligence promises to make still more convincing. As older generations shift from spending their time in front of Fox or the BBC to spending it on YouTube or TikTok, they are entering a Wild West of information.
Screen time has a mixed impact on loneliness. Screens are companions for the isolated. But they can also be an alternative for real life. E-commerce removes the trouble of the weekly shopping trip — but also the social interactions that come with it. Balancing the pros and cons of screen use is easier for teenagers, whose time online is limited by teachers during the day and parents in the evening. Older folk lack these informal mediators (调停者).
Old people’s rocketing screen time should at least make for a more measured debate on digital matters. Generations do not always understand each other well. There is a long history of policymakers calling for bans on teenagers, from rock ‘n’ roll to violent video games. When the teenagers catches on more widely, the panic tends to die down. Universal use of smart-phones and social media should make it easier to have sensible conversations about their trade-offs. And when children are told for the hundredth time to get off their phones, they can cast a meaningful glance at grandpa in the corner, chuckling at the latest memes on WhatsApp.
28.By mentioning the two generations’ screen time, the author intends to ______.
A.highlight an issue B.evaluate an event C.clarify a goal D.illustrate an approach
29.What does the underlined phrase “susceptible to” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?
A.Tolerant to. B.Awakened by. C.Tricked by. D.Relevant to.
30.What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A.Each generation tends to self-limit their own screen time strictly.
B.Society has promoted seniors’ digital benefits to prevent panic.
C.Digital policy should primarily target seniors’ online safety risks.
D.The digital engagement across ages calls for balanced discussions.
31.Which would be the best title for this passage?
A.Square-eyed Elders B.All-thumbs Seniors
C.Self-taught Silver Surfers D.Leisure-seeking Grandparents

Does Chinese philosophy influence your parenting? It is the question I am most often asked. Chinese philosophy contains many lessons that are useful, accessible and timely when applied to the challenges of parenting. Confucianism and Daoism suggest ways to guide your children toward meaning and fulfillment rather than wealth and fame.
Parenting is tough, especially because there isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach. Different kids need different things. How do we stay focused on what matters most? How do we navigate difficult times with our kids and support them when they struggle? All of us want our children to be successful, partly because we love them and want them to be happy. But it is easy to mistake “success” with certain kinds of academic or athletic achievements.
Of course, one can define success in this way. But ancient Chinese philosophers believed that real success is not measured by fame, money or power. A successful life is one in which a person flourishes: they are happy, fulfilled, and they find meaning in what they do and who they are. This type of fulfillment comes from loving and being loved by others within the context of meaningful, lasting relationships; giving generously of what you have to others; caring for and having a genuine love of nature; and shouldering your responsibility.
Most of us know that having an Ivy League degree and a high-paying job is not going to make our children happy and fulfilled in life. Yet we worry about how they will find things they love to do and that they are good at. Philosophers from the two most influential ancient Chinese traditions — Confucianism and Daoism — talk more about human flourishing, virtue, happiness and fulfillment than about “success”.
Chinese philosophers argued that we genuinely flourish — are happiest and most fulfilled — when we develop these virtues. This can never be measured in terms such as earning power, entering famous schools or getting jobs. Instead, it is measured in how we treat people — how one loves and is loved by one’s family and friends — and in what one does to make the world a kinder, gentler, more humane and beautiful place. They encourage us to help our children learn more about the world around them.
The Confucians and Daoists were a little like yin and yang: Confucians have a lot of active, hands-on ways to help children grow, such as participating in traditions, while the Daoists recommend simpler activities, such as exploring the beauty of nature. Their diverse views on living a good life are precisely what makes Chinese philosophy such a great resource for parents.
Parenting is messy. It is not simple or straightforward but complex and difficult. There are no magic solutions that make things easy or smooth. Most of us will need to piece together different approaches in order to find something that works well and feels right in different situations, for different children, and at different times in a child’s life.
32.According to the author, parenting is challenging because________.
A.parents don’t know what success refers to
B.children don’t believe in Chinese philosophy
C.there are many theories of parenting to choose
D.one can’t find a standard approach to suit every child
33.What is the opinion of ancient Chinese philosophers?
A.People who flourish can feel successful because they live a meaningful life.
B.Only when people make contribution to society can they feel successful.
C.A successful life can be measured by reputation and wealth.
D.Success just means one should be friendly to nature.
34.What can we infer from this passage?
A.Daoists are more influential than Confucians because of their simpler activities.
B.Confucians and Daoists together can provide parents abundant resources.
C.Confucians think entering famous school can make children flourish.
D.It is enough for parents to just learn Chinese Philosophy well.

Cybercrime refers to any type of criminal activity that involves the use of computers, computer networks, or other digital technologies to commit or facilitate illegal activities. These crimes can range from the theft of personal and financial data to complicated attacks on basic facilities, such as power systems or financial systems. 35 With a few smart habits and tools, netizen can stay protected.
Creating complex passwords is your first line of defense. Avoid using common phrases, birthdays, or easily guessable numbers. Instead, use a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. 36 If one gets exposed, the rest are at risk.
Cybercriminals often make use of known software bugs. That’s why software companies constantly release patches (补丁) to close those gaps. Make sure your operating system, antivirus programs, browsers, and even mobile apps are up to date. Enable auto-updates when possible. 37
Phishing (钓鱼) emails remain one of the most common cyberattack methods. These emails often look legal and may even appear to come from trusted brands or coworkers. Always double-check the sender’s email address. Stop at links to see where they really lead. If you’re unsure, contact the sender directly through a different channel before clicking anything.
38 These tools can create false emails, clone voices in phone calls, or generate realistic videos to impersonate trusted individuals. Always verify unexpected requests for money, credentials, or sensitive information, especially if they claim urgency. Use a separate and known method to confirm.
Cybercrime isn’t just rising. It’s evolving. Attacks are getting more frequent, more complicated, and more damaging. 39 It’s a wake-up call for every business leader, organization, and individual who operates online. Cybersecurity is no longer a technical add-on. It’s a core part of staying in business and staying trusted.
A.Don’t reuse them across different sites.
B.This isn’t just a warning bell for IT teams.
C.Cybercrime can hit anyone, but most threats are preventable.
D.Deceivers now use AI to imitate voices, faces, and writing styles.
E.Always back up your important data to an external drive or cloud service.
F.Using a password manager can help you generate and store complex passwords.
G.Don’t ignore those system restart reminders usually caused by important patches.
In a world filled with advertisements and constant pressure to consume, minimalism offers an alternative lifestyle. More than just a design aesthetic (美学) or a trend, it’s a philosophy that emphasizes simplicity, intentionality, and mindfulness. Instead of pursuing the latest trends or filling their home with unnecessary items, minimalists believe that less is more.
At its core, adoption of minimalism doesn’t necessarily mean complete scarcity, but rather a thoughtful selection of what truly matters. By rejecting mindless accumulation (积累), minimalism encourages a life focused on quality rather than quantity.
One primary advantage of a minimalist lifestyle is that it encourages us to be more deliberate (深思熟虑的) with our choices and actions. When we carefully select what enters our lives — whether objects, commitments, or relationships — we match our actions with our core values. This promotes deeper connections, meaningful experiences, and sustained personal growth, moving beyond materialism as a source of fulfillment.
Minimalism can also improve our mental clarity. A simplified physical space directly impacts cognitive function. When our physical environment is clutter-free, our minds can concentrate more easily. This heightened mental clarity allows for clearer thinking, better decision-making, and being more present in daily life.
Furthermore, it boosts our overall well-being. When happiness is no longer tied to possessions, appreciation for life’s simple pleasures grows. This shift in mindset leads to greater overall life satisfaction and a more balanced existence.
Minimalism is not about living with nothing; it is about living with what brings genuine value. By embracing minimalism, individuals can discover that the key to a rich life lies not in abundance (繁杂), but in simplicity.
40.What is the core of minimalism?
41.What are the advantages of minimalism?
42.Please decide which part is false in the following statement, then underline it and explain why.
Minimalism encourages people to reduce dependence on material possessions, but this leads to a decline in people’s overall life satisfaction.
43.Use examples to show how you can practice minimalism in daily life. (In about 40 words)

Two days later I dropped by from work 12 (collect) the shoes. I found more scratches on each shoe, but all the openings were patched by red leather and the stitches were twisted. 11.were damaged 12.to collect 13.more interesting
故填were damaged。
故填to collect。
故填more interesting。

D.Commitment and cooperation cause positive ecological outcomes.

根据第一段的“She collects the butterfly eggs from the milkweed plants — the only food for these delicate creatures — alongside the highways. Each time she goes on her journey to the highways, she hopes these little eggs, which are as precious as hidden treasures, will hatch (孵化) into many beautiful creatures.(她沿着公路收集马利筋植物上的帝王蝶卵,而这些马利筋植物是这些脆弱生物唯一的食物来源。每次她踏上前往公路的旅程时,她都希望这些如同隐藏珍宝般珍贵的卵能够孵化出许多美丽的生物)”可知,Robyn Elman作为自然倡导者,会收集帝王蝶的卵并孵化它们。故选C。
25.推理判断题。根据第二段“But reality destroyed her hopes last year. Instead of being greeted by the green milkweed plants, she was met with the desolate sight of mowed stubs (修剪过的草茬) and destroyed eggs. The milkweed plants had been cut down, and all left were short stubs. She felt a deep sense of loss. ‘Is there really no hope for these delicate, flying creatures?’ she whispered to herself, her heart as heavy as a big piece of lead.(但去年,现实粉碎了她的希望。 故选A。

通读全文,尤其是最后一段“Thanks to their combined efforts, the monarch butterflies now have a brighter future, and the city’s ecosystem is on the path to positive transformation.(由于他们的共同努力,帝王蝶现在有了更光明的未来,而城市的生态系统也正朝着积极转变的方向迈进)”可知,Robyn和其他自然爱好者通过努力和合作,成功保护了帝王蝶的栖息地,使帝王蝶有了更光明的未来。
C
【答案】28.A 29.C 30.D 31.A
根据第一段“Few things delight children, or irritate their parents, as much as screen time. Parents nag their children to put down their digital devices and pick up a book or a football. Some countries are banning social media for under-16s.(没有什么事情能像屏幕使用时间这样既让孩子们感到开心,又让他们的父母感到烦恼。家长们会不停地叮嘱孩子们放下电子设备,拿起一本书或者一个足球。一些国家甚至禁止16岁以下的青少年使用社交媒体)”以及第二段“The worry may be focused on the wrong age group. Now a new generation of grandparents are adding to their screen time with smartphones, iPads and game consoles. The result is epic screen sessions, which take up more than half of their waking hours.(这种担忧或许针对的年龄段并不准确。如今,新一代的祖父母们也开始使用智能手机、iPad和游戏机来增加自己的屏幕使用时间。结果就是他们每天的屏幕使用时间超过了清醒时间的一半)”可知,通过提及两代人的屏幕使用时间,作者意在强调一个问题。故选A。
根据划线词所在句“Older people also appear to be more likely susceptible to online scam which artificial intelligence promises to make still more convincing.(老年人似乎也更容易susceptible to网络诈骗,而人工智能技术则有望让这类诈骗变得更加具有迷惑性)”可知,后文提到人工智能技术让这类诈骗变得更加具有迷惑性,说明老年人容易被骗。
根据最后一段“Old people’s rocketing screen time should at least make for a more measured debate on digital matters.(老年人大幅增加的屏幕使用时间至少应该促使我们对数字化问题展开更为审慎的讨论)”可知,不同年龄段的数字互动需要进行平衡的讨论。故选D。
根据第二段“The worry may be focused on the wrong age group. Now a new generation of grandparents are adding to their screen time with smartphones, iPads and game consoles. The result is epic screen sessions, which take up more than half of their waking hours.(这种担忧或许针对的年龄段并不准确。 故选A。
D
【答案】32.D 33.A 34.B
根据第二段中的“Parenting is tough, especially because there isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach. Different kids need different things.(育儿很难,尤其是因为没有一种万能的方法。不同的孩子需要不同的东西。)”可知,育儿具有挑战性的原因是找不到适用于所有孩子的标准方法。故选D项。
33.细节理解题。根据第三段中的“But ancient Chinese philosophers believed that real success is not measured by fame, money or power. A successful life is one in which a person flourishes: they are happy, fulfilled, and they find meaning in what they do and who they are.(但中国古代哲学家认为,真正的成功不能用名声、金钱或权力来衡量。成功的人生是一个人富足的人生:他们快乐、满足,并在自己所做的事和自身中找到意义。)”可知,中国古代哲学家认为,富足的人会感到成功,因为他们过着有意义的生活。故选A项。
根据第六段中的“The Confucians and Daoists were a little like yin and yang: Confucians have a lot of active, hands-on ways to help children grow, such as participating in traditions, while the Daoists recommend simpler activities, such as exploring the beauty of nature. Their diverse views on living a good life are precisely what makes Chinese philosophy such a great resource for parents.(儒家和道家有点像阴阳:儒家有很多积极、实用的方法来帮助孩子成长,比如参与传统,而道家推荐更简单的活动,比如探索自然之美。他们对美好生活的多元观点,正是中国哲学成为父母宝贵资源的原因。)” 可知,儒家和道家思想各有侧重、相辅相成,二者结合能为父母提供丰富且多元的育儿思路与资源。故选B项。
第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,共10分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的七个选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有项为多余选项。
【答案】35.C 36.A 37.G 38.D 39.B

上文“These crimes can range from the theft of personal and financial data to complicated attacks on basic facilities, such as power systems or financial systems.(这些犯罪范围广泛,从窃取个人和财务数据,到对电力系统或金融系统等基础设施的复杂攻击)”列举了网络犯罪的严重危害,C选项“Cybercrime can hit anyone, but most threats are preventable.(网络犯罪可能发生在任何人身上,但大多数威胁是可以预防的)”与上文构成转折关系,指出尽管网络犯罪危害大,但大多数是可以防范的;下文“With a few smart habits and tools, netizen can stay protected.(通过一些聪明的习惯和工具,网民可以保持安全)”具体说明了如何预防,与C选项中的“preventable”相呼应,上下文语意连贯。
36.上文“Instead, use a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.(相反,使用大小写字母、数字和符号的组合)”给出了创建复杂密码的具体方法,A选项“Don’t reuse them across different sites.(不要在不同网站重复使用相同的密码)”承接上文,给出了密码管理的另一重要原则——避免重复使用;下文“If one gets exposed, the rest are at risk.(如果一个密码泄露,其他的也都面临风险)”解释了为什么不能重复使用密码,与A选项中的“Don’t reuse”构成因果关系,上下文逻辑连贯。
37.上文“Make sure your operating system, antivirus programs, browsers, and even mobile apps are up to date.
下文“These tools can create false emails, clone voices in phone calls, or generate realistic videos to impersonate trusted individuals.(这些工具可以创建虚假电子邮件、克隆电话中的声音,或生成逼真的视频来冒充可信赖的人)”描述了利用AI技术进行诈骗的手段,D选项“Deceivers now use AI to imitate voices, faces, and writing styles.(诈骗者现在使用AI来模仿声音、面孔和写作风格)”准确概括了本段主旨,点明AI技术被用于网络诈骗这一新型威胁,符合段落主题句的功能。
39.上文“Attacks are getting more frequent, more complicated, and more damaging.(攻击变得越来越频繁、越来越复杂、越来越具破坏性)”描述了网络犯罪日益严峻的趋势,B选项“This isn’t just a warning bell for IT teams.(这不仅仅是给IT团队的警钟)”承接上文,指出这种威胁的警示范围远超IT团队;下文“It’s a wake-up call for every business leader, organization, and individual who operates online.(这是对每一位在线运营的企业领导者、组织和个人敲响的警钟)”具体说明了警示的对象包括所有网络使用者,与B选项中的“isn’t just for IT teams”形成递进关系,上下文逻辑连贯。
