66.Dear Ms. Jones,
I’m writing to express my sincere gratitude for organizing the online English speech check-in activity. It has greatly motivated me to practice speaking and boosted my confidence in expressing myself in English.
To make the activity even more engaging, I’d like to share a couple of gentle suggestions. First, it would be of great help to introduce weekly topic prompts(提示), as many of us find it challenging to brainstorm appropriate topics independently. Second, adding a quick peer feedback session after each speech would allow us to learn from each other’s strengths and grow together more effectively.
Thank you for your hard work. I hope the activity will become more popular with these improvements.
Best regards,
Li Hua

Lily’s eyes immediately lit up with excitement and joy. Inside lay a brand-new doll—not just any doll, but one even more beautiful than the broken one. Beside the doll was a small handwritten note that said,“Every beautiful doll deserves to be loved by a sweet girl like you. Always keep smiling! — From your secret friend.” Mr Brown immediately thought of their kind neighbor Mrs White, who had witnessed Lily’s sadness yesterday. A warm feeling of gratitude filled his heart as he watched his daughter happily hug her new doll.
Deeply moved by this wonderful act, Mr Brown decided to share the story online. The story quickly spread throughout the community. Many neighbors, inspired by this simple but meaningful gesture, started helping with grocery shopping for elderly neighbors, while others shared plants from their gardens. When Mrs White’s family learned what she had done, they felt incredibly proud of her. But the most valuable reward for Mrs White was seeing Lily playing happily in the garden every day, always carrying the new doll with her. This experience served as a reminder that even small acts of kindness can create waves of warmth and bring people closer together.

For one woman, a quiet walk in the neighborhood turned into a life-saving task.
All was calm until a weak sound cut through the quiet. At first, she thought she imagined it — a soft cry, almost too quiet to notice. But then it came again, clearer this time: a small, frightened cry. Her heart jumped a beat. She stopped. Something was wrong. A dog was in trouble.
She looked at nearby yards, fences, and sidewalks — and then realized the cries were coming from below. Leaning over a storm drain (泄水沟), she saw at the bottom sat a dog, wide-eyed, shaking, and badly hoping someone would hear her.
Without hesitation, she called Animal Law Enforcement for help. Corporal Rollins arrived quickly, looking over the situation. The drain was too narrow for a simple rescue (营救), and the space below was small, making it impossible to climb in safely. Then Rollins noticed a nearby well cover. After the cover was lifted, a dark tunnel (通道) appeared, and almost immediately, the dog carefully walked toward the light, as if sensing that help had arrived.
Officer Moore soon joined Rollins, and together they formed a careful plan. With patience, calm voices, and treats in hand, Rollins climbed down and slowly earned the dog’s trust. Dirty, frightened, but unharmed, she finally allowed herself to be fixed and lifted safely out of the tunnel.
The frightened dog, named Kita, was brought to the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region. Her photo was quickly posted, and almost immediately her family recognized her. They rushed to the place, overjoyed to be reunited with their beloved dog. Before leaving, they made the right choice to microchip (植入芯片) her, making sure she could always find her way home in the future.
Another life has been saved. Another happy tail has returned to the home where it rightfully belongs.
24.What was the dog doing when the woman found it?
A.It was calling for help. B.It was lying quietly there.
C.It was running in the street. D.It was searching for food.
25.Which can best describe the method of the rescue?
A.Proper. B.Costly. C.Easy. D.Strange.
26.What did the dog do when being rescued?
A.It refused to move. B.It cried loudly.
C.It fought against the rescuers. D.It believed in the rescuers.
27.Which saying best fits what the dog’s owners did at last?
A.Every dog has its day. B.Love me, love my dog.
C.Better late than never. D.Every coin has two sides.

We grow up eating the food of our cultures. It becomes a part of who each of us is. Many of us connect food from our childhood with warm feelings and good memories and it ties us to our families, holding a special and personal value for us. When I was sick as a kid, I couldn’t eat rice because I was too weak, so my mother would cook soup and bring it to bed for me. Now, whenever I feel tired or stressed, I remember the soup my mum used to make for me.
Food is an important part of culture. Immigrants (移民) bring the food of their countries with them wherever they go and cooking traditional food is a way of keeping their culture when they move to new places. Many open their own restaurants and serve traditional dishes. However, the food does not remain exactly the same. When immigrants sell food in another country, they have to change the original dishes to satisfy a wider range of customers with different tastes and flavour (味道) preferences. Changes to original dishes can create new flavours that still have the cultural significance of the dish.
In China, harmony is an important character in almost every side of life. This is mirrored in Chinese food, where almost every flavour is used in a balanced way creating delicious dishes with flavours that go well together. Additionally, they believe that food not only needs to be nutritious (有营养的) but also needs to look attractive, so they put a lot of effort into beautifying the dishes and making them look colourful.
The food of the United States mirrors its history. The European colonisation (殖民) of the Americas introduced European ingredients (原料) and cooking styles to the US. Later in the 20th century, the arrival of immigrants from many other foreign nations developed a rich variety in food preparation throughout the country.
As the world becomes more globalised, it is easier to have food from different cultures. We should hug our heritage through our culture’s food, but we should also know about other cultures by trying their food.
28.What does the author want to tell us by the soup story?
A.He has a memorable childhood. B.Food reminds him of his family.
C.Food plays an important role in our life. D.He has a great mother good at cooking.
29.What do immigrant restaurants do with their traditional food in new places?
A.Add new ingredients to it. B.Change its flavours.
C.Replace it with local food. D.Change its cooking seasoning(调料).

Around Christmas, 50-year-old New Yorker Holly Jespersen felt unwell but hesitated to see a doctor. She turned to ChatGPT, which advised her against visiting. Days later, with a high fever and headaches, again using the chatbot to decide when, she finally went to urgent care and was diagnosed with influenza A.
Holly is far from alone. According to OpenAI, over 40 million daily health-related enquiries, with 230 million weekly. In January, it announced ChatGPT Health, allowing users to upload medical records for customized (定制的) support. The company stresses it is meant to “support, not replace” medical care, not for diagnosis or treatment, but to help with everyday questions and pattern recognition.
Yet concerns arise. Family physician Dr. Alexa Mieses Malchuk warns that ChatGPT, like WebMD, prioritizes being helpful over accurate. A 2023 study found ChatGPT’s cancer treatment plans contained many errors, some hard even for experts to detect. However, newer research on colon cancer showed its answers on symptoms and prevention were highly accurate, suggesting LLMs (大型语言模型) may assist patient education but not clinical decisions.
Beyond accuracy, psychologists highlight anxiety risks. A 2013 study confirmed that online symptom searches can intensify health anxiety, especially for those intolerant of uncertainty. Clinical psychologist Elizabeth Sadock notes that ChatGPT, always available and affirming, fuels reassurance-seeking (寻求慰藉) behavior, trapping users in a cycle of anxiety. For some patients, limiting ChatGPT use may now be part of treatment.
Privacy is another puzzle. Biomedical informatics professor Bradley Malin acknowledges OpenAI’s security efforts, but stresses ChatGPT Health falls outside HIPAA regulation. Patients may unknowingly lose legal protections when their data flows from secured medical records to an unregulated third party.
Yet some see value. Dermatologist Kumar views ChatGPT Health as educational, clarifying terms like sunscreen types, not diagnostic. He distinguishes it from WebMD’s curated(精选的), reviewed(审核的) content, while ChatGPT’s AI may mislead.
Thus, ChatGPT Health enters America’s broken system as a double-edged sword: a round-the-clock assistant that may empower (赋权) patients, yet risks misinforming, over-reassuring, and exposing them to unregulated data practices.
32.Why does OpenAI launch ChatGPT Health?
A.To replace medical care totally. B.To provide consultation timely.
C.To treat the patients early. D.To diagnose diseases quickly.
33.What can we learn from paragraphs 3-5?
A.ChatGPT may lead to more risks than benefits.
B.ChatGPT is always available, helpful and accurate.
C.Psychologists advise people not to use ChatGPT.
D.People will have no privacy when using ChatGPT.
34.How does Kumar find ChatGPT?
A.It teaches patients some medical terms.
B.It can be used as an assistant to patients.
C.It can help more patients cure diseases.
D.It has more disadvantages.
35.What is the author’s attitude toward ChatGPT Health?
A.Enthusiastic and supportive. B.Objective and cautious.
C.Disapproving and negative. D.Critical and loyal.

The key to becoming an effective student is learning to study smarter, not harder. This is especially important for students who are facing important exams. Let’s discuss how to develop good study habits to study effectively.
Don’t attempt to cram (突击) all your studying into one session. 36 For example, studying one hour a day for four days is better than cramming 4 hours at a time. Many students make the mistake of cramming the night before an exam, which often leads to tiredness. Cramming may help with short-term grades but harms long-term memory. 37
Schedule when you’re going to study. Successful students schedule specific study times and stick to them, while poor performers study randomly without a plan. 38 Even if you’re caught up with all your tasks, a weekly review routine will build good habits for long-term success in your studies.
39 Creating a daily consistent study routine is essential for every student. It reduces the need for intense study sessions, avoids late nights and panic, and benefits your mental health a lot. Studying at the same time daily builds a good habit, boosts your motivation and study productivity.
Each study time should have a specific goal. 40 You need clear and specific goals for each study session to make progress. Research shows goals are closely related to better study results for students. So before you start studying, set a specific goal that helps achieve your overall academic aims step by step.
A.Avoid rushing to meet deadlines.
B.Keep a fixed daily study time and keep it regular.
C.Studying without direction is ineffective and a waste of time.
D.A study plan helps break your workload into manageable parts.
E.A student must learn to develop and apply effective study habits.

The 23-day mission was China’s first space journey to claim extraterrestrial samples, making 62 the third country to accomplish the task, the first being the USA in the 1960’s and the second Soviet Union in the 1970’s.
The spacecraft 63 (enter) the Earth’s atmosphere at 64 altitude of around 120km. As soon as it was 10km above land, it released its parachute and landed smoothly in China's Inner Mongolia. Now the spacecraft has been air lifted to Beijing where the samples will be examined by scientists very soon.

On a beautiful Thursday this April, Mr and Mrs Brown took their daughter Lily out for a walk in the neighborhood. On their way back, Mrs Brown picked up a doll for Lily from the local toy store — it had smooth hair and wore a pretty blue dress, just like the dolls Lily always admired in shop windows. These days, when Mr and Mrs Brown were busy with their work and spending less time at home, such small joys meant more than ever.
In the afternoon, Lily couldn’t wait to play with her new doll in the backyard. She was carefully pushing the doll in her little toy pram (推车) when suddenly, a strong wind came and blew the pram down. Before Lily could catch it, the pram hit a tree and fell over. The doll fell out and broke into pieces on the hard ground. Since the doll was made of porcelain (瓷器) and completely broken, the Browns could do nothing about it. Heartbroken, Lily collected all the pieces carefully. She found a small cardboard box and put all the broken pieces inside, then buried it under the big oak tree in their garden.
About one hour later, their neighbor Mrs White happened to pass by and saw what had happened. She came over to comfort little Lily. Seeing how sad the girl was, she really felt sorry for her. And it was at that moment that she decided to do something special for the poor child.
The next day, Mr Brown went out to get the mail as usual and found a package. It was addressed to Lily, with no sender’s name written on it. Feeling curious, he brought it inside and called his daughter. Lily carefully opened the wrapped package.
