Every year, as part of traditional Chinese culture, the dragon dance is used to pray for peace and good luck for the new year. According to local beliefs, the Fire Dragon Dance also has the power of driving away disasters and offering wishes for the local community.
The performance itself is truly breathtaking. First, the iron is heated to 1,600℃ in eight ovens placed in a circle. Along with music, the two fire dragons dance around to offer New Year wishes.

①Birds may not have large brains, but some are surprisingly clever. A study reported that Cooper’s hawks (鹰) could understand human traffic rules and use them to get food more easily.
②The study was led by an animal expert Vladimir Dinets. Several years ago, he noticed something special while watching a hawk near a busy street. When cars stopped for a red light, the hawk would fly low over the cars. It used the cars as cover to get close to small birds. Then it would quickly catch its food before the light turned green.
③Dinets kept watching and found that the hawk did this again and again. It knew exactly when to wait for red lights and when to move. This is the first time scientists have discovered a bird that seems to understand traffic lights. Other wild birds may use buildings or trees to hide, but none have been seen using traffic rules.
④Cooper’s hawks live in many cities and towns across the United States. They are fast and feed mainly on small birds. As they have moved closer to humans, they have learned new ways to catch food. Living in cities has changed their hunting habits, and they have become good at using human environments to help themselves. The study shows that animals can get used to city life in amazing ways. But city life also brings risks, such as cars, tall buildings, and fewer natural places to live.
⑤As we can see, by learning more about these clever hawks, we can make cities safer and friendlier for wildlife. Next time you are waiting at a traffic light, look carefully into the trees. You might see a Cooper’s hawk waiting too — not to cross the road, but to catch its next meal.
33. What did the study find about Cooper’s hawks?
A. They can fly faster than any other bird. B. They live in natural forests and mountains.
C. They hide in tall buildings to catch small birds. D. They use traffic lights and cars to help catch food.

A. She covered her face with hands. B. The cover of the book is really fantastic.
C. This lesson covers many important words. D. We stayed behind the rocks for good cover.
35. Which of the following are risks of city life for Cooper’s hawks according to the passage?
①Traffic lights. ②Cars and tall buildings.
③Other wild birds. ④Not enough natural living places.
A. ①② B. ②③ C. ②④ D. ③④
36. What is the structure of the passage?
A. ①/②③④/⑤ B. ①/②③④⑤ C. ①②③/④⑤ D. ①②/③④⑤

Soon, two young men got on and walked down the passage. One was good-looking, with a bold and open manner; the other was heavy-built, roughly dressed and looked very glum. The two men were handcuffed together. The only empty seat available was opposite Miss Fairchild, so they sat down there.
At first, Miss Fairchild looked at them with disinterest. Then she recognized the younger man, smiled warmly and held out her gloved hand. “Well, Mr. Easton,” she said, “Aren’t you going to greet an old friend?”
Mr. Easton was surprised. He shook her hand with his left hand, smiling and saying, “Please forgive my other hand — it’s busy right now.” He lifted his right hand, which was handcuffed to the older man’s left hand. Miss Fairchild’s happy expression turned to confused shock.
Before Easton could speak, the older man cut in. “Excuse me for talking, miss. I see you know this marshal here. He’s taking me to Leavenworth Prison — I got seven years for counterfeiting money. Could you ask him to put in a good word for me when we arrive? It will make things easier for me.”
Miss Fairchild’s color came back. “So you’re a marshal now!” she said to Easton. Easton explained calmly that he had to take the job after getting into money trouble back in Washington. Miss Fairchild was happy for him, saying she loved the West and his new life as a brave lawman.
When the two men left to go to the restroom, two passengers sitting nearby talked about what they had seen. One said, “That marshal is a really good guy.” The other said he was very young to be a marshal. The first passenger laughed, “Didn’t you get the trick? Have you ever seen a marshal handcuff a prisoner to his own right hand?”

根据文章第4段“He shook her hand with his left hand, smiling and saying, “Please forgive my other hand — it’s busy right now.” He lifted his right hand, which was handcuffed to the older man’s left hand.(他用左手握住了她的手,微笑着说道:‘请原谅我的另一只手——此刻它正忙着呢。’
A. ②①④③;B. ②④①③;C. ①②③④;D. ①③②④。事件②:根据第2段“Soon, two young men got on and walked down the passage…The only empty seat available was opposite Miss Fairchild, so they sat down there.(不久,两个年轻人上了车,沿着过道走…… 事件①:根据第3段“Then she recognized the younger man, smiled warmly and held out her gloved hand…“Aren’t you going to greet an old friend?”(然后她认出了那个年轻人,亲切地微笑着并伸出了戴着手套的手。 事件③:根据第5段“Before Easton could speak, the older man cut in.
根据最后一段“When the two men left to go to the restroom, two passengers sitting nearby talked about what they had seen. One said, “That marshal is a really good guy.” The other said he was very young to be a marshal. The first passenger laughed, “Didn’t you get the trick? Have you ever seen a marshal handcuff a prisoner to his own right hand?”(当这两人离开去洗手间时,坐在他们旁边的两名乘客谈论起了他们所看到的情景。

Are you feeling that you have stopped improving even if you have been working hard? You may get to a point where your progress slows down, or even stops completely. __41__________ But it does not mean there is no way out. The following tips can help you break through.
Start by setting clear goals. When progress slows, it often means you need a new direction. __42__________ This allows you to see your progress more clearly and helps you stay active when the learning feels difficult.
__43__________ Sometimes learners cannot see their own limits. Teachers or experienced friends can offer fresh views and point out areas for improvement. With their help, you can keep from repeating the same mistakes and make progress again.
Changing the way you learn is another useful method. Doing the same thing repeatedly may lead to boredom and slow growth. Trying different ways — such as reading new books, practicing for 20 minutes each day, or studying with a friend — can bring back your interest. __44__________
A positive attitude matters just as much. A learning slowdown does not mean you have failed. __45__________ Believe in yourself and keep trying. With patience and effort, you can get past this stage and continue to improve.
In short, a learning slowdown is not the end of your progress. By using these methods, you can break through the difficulty and continue moving forward.
A. Asking others for advice is also helpful.
B. This can be a very hard time for anyone.
C. Try to learn from other people’s mistakes.

根据固定搭配“take an interested in doing sth.(对做某事感兴趣)”可知此处应填in,故填in。
根据上文“Shen Kuo often dreamed about a hill(沈括经常梦到一座小山。)”
根据固定用法“be surprised to do sth.(做某事感到惊讶)”可知此处应填find(发现)的不定式形式to find,故填to find。

Among all traditional Chinese dragon dances, the Tongliang Fire Dragon Dance is one of the most amazing. It appeared in the Ming Dynasty and became extremely popular in the Qing Dynasty.
Sixteen shirtless men spray the liquid iron into the air, creating beautiful flower-like flames. At the same time, fireworks hidden in the bodies of two golden dragons are lighted. Then you can see fireworks fly from the dragons as 20 shirtless men hold the dragons, making them fly up and down through seas of fire. Along with music, the two fire dragons dance around to offer New Year wishes.
The Tongliang Fire Dragon Dance was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage (国家级非物质文化遗产) in 2006 and has become one of Chongqing’s cultural icons. It is also known as “China’s No.1 Dragon Dance”. It has not only shone at home but also abroad. It has taken part in major national events such as the 1984, 1999 and 2009 National Day celebrations, as well as the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Moreover, it has visited more than 20 countries including Britain, France and Japan to spread Chinese culture.

34. Which word has the same meaning as the underlined word “cover” in paragraph 2?
A. ①/②③④/⑤ B. ①/②③④⑤ C. ①②③/④⑤ D. ①②/③④⑤

At Denver, crowds of passengers crowded onto the eastbound B.&M. Express train. In one carriage, a beautiful young woman called Miss Fairchild sat comfortably — she was an experienced traveler with all the finest luxuries.
