As we all know, the violin is an expensive instrument. A violin usually costs about $150. That means not everyone will get to feel the joy of making music with a violin and a bow (琴弓). But one teacher, Jesus Peralta, is trying to change that.
Jesus is a professional violinist and music teacher. He is also good at carpentry (木工活). In 2012, Jesus founded Los Violines De San Juan, which provides free group violin lessons for young students. He wanted to share his love of music with the kids of Lima, Peru, but the only way to make it happen was to make the instruments himself to cut down on costs. For quite a lot of kids, it’s almost impossible for them to get a violin. He came up with several ideas and put them into practice. He failed again and again.
Later, he used recycled materials like plastic, wood, and string (线) to make his violins. It certainly took a lot of time and hard work. Luckily, his efforts paid off. Jesus’ violins cost only about $20 to make, and the materials are easy to come by. That means he can give these instruments to the children who can’t afford to buy one but they also want to learn the violin.
Jesus calls the violins “bottlephone” violins. Amazingly, the “bottle phone” violins sound just like real violins. So while they don’t look exactly like real violins, it’s hard to tell them apart based on the sound.
“When you have a deep love for music, there should be nothing to prevent you from spreading it. That’s what I do,” Jesus said in a video. And Jesus created the cheaper violins, so he could continue sharing his love of music with the next generation (代), no matter what the difficulty is.
46.What can we learn from Paragraph 1?
A.Not all people are interested in music.
B.Some people are too poor to buy a violin.
C.Music can make a difference to people’s life.
D.Only those with much money can enjoy music.
47.How did Jesus reduce the costs of making violins?
A.He used recycled materials to make them.
B.He founded a company to make them.
C.He used bottles and phones to make them.
D.He bought other people’s used violins.
48.What does the underlined phrase “come by” probably mean in Paragraph 3?
A.Get. B.Follow. C.Break. D.Repair.
49.Which of the following words can best describe Jesus’s “bottlephone” violins?
A.Simple and ugly. B.Beautiful and recyclable.
C.Expensive but excellent. D.Cheap but excellent.
50.What does Jesus’s story tell us?
A.Violins are not given to poor children.
B.Only expensive materials can be used to make violins.
C.The “bottlephone” violins don’t sound like real violins.
D.Jesus loves music and wants to share his love of music with children.
B
When people talk to each other, write letters or make phone calls, words of the spoken form or the written form can send any message they want to pass on.
But besides words, do you know any other ways you can use to communicate with people? Rich expressions on your face can be one of them. A smile on your face shows that you are happy. Tears in your eyes tell others that you are sad or excited. Body languages can do the same job. When you put your hand up in class, the teacher knows that you want to say something or you may have some questions to ask. You shake your head from side to side and people know you are saying “no” or refuse others’ requirements. When you nod, people will understand that you are saying “yes” or agree to others’ opinions or suggestions.
Other forms can also carry different messages. For example, a sign at the bus stop gives passengers instructions on which bus to take. The flag language made by soldiers can pass different orders. Sound from the school bell tells the students and the teachers when to begin or end a class. A photographer can use the photos he has taken to tell others about what he thinks of the world around him. Music and films also convey the feelings. and ideas of the musicians and the directors. So next time when you see a piece of art or listen to some music, take it as communication with its creator and try to get the meaning behind it.
51.When people want to use words to communicate with others, they ________ .
A.keep silent B.cry aloud C.write letters D.smile friendly

A.which bus can be taken. B.what the orders mean for soldiers

A.掩饰 B.爆发 C.传递 D.克制
55.The best title for this passage may be ________.
A.Forms of Communication B.Spoken and Written Languages
C.Facial Expressions and Gestures D.Suggestions on Communication

Human have a diet of both vegetables and meat for traditional meals. But it seems we have become a society of meat eaters. Two things can explain this: the number of the population is rising and people have more money to enjoy meat.
Recently, more land is used than before, as farmers try their best to meet the rising need. Large factories and farms also cause a lot of pollution because of our need for meat.
But some people disagree. They think eating meat won’t cause any problems to the earth as long as they take some actions. For example, some scientists are using cells (细胞) taken from cows to grow “meat”. It can be mixed with other things to make beef in the lab. They say this plan could help people spend less money than raising cows. And other scientists from the United States and China are working to create “meaty” flavors (调料) from plants. They think natural flavors are better for the body.
In order to protect our environment, we have to accept this kind of meat, although most people aren’t quite ready to.
56.According to the writer, why do people eat more meat today?
A.People think meat is much more healthier than vegetables.
B.People have more money than before.

C.The cells of cows. D.The legs of cows.
59.Scientists from ________ think natural flavors are better for the body.

Try Everything in your hands

Let Go of Your Past

They are only going to make you very tired in the long run. You have to avoid them. Forgive the people that hurt you in the past and start new adventures towards the path of the future.
Do What Actually works
Most people get busy doing the things that don’t get them anywhere. For example, many people turn to alcohol (酒精) to get rid of the stress, which just kills them slowly.

A.which bus can be taken. B.what the orders mean for soldiers

54.The underlined word “convey” probably means ________ in the passage.
A.掩饰 B.爆发 C.传递 D.克制
55.The best title for this passage may be ________.
A.Forms of Communication B.Spoken and Written Languages

C.Farmers plant less vegetables nowadays.
D.There are more animals today.

A.Large factories. B.Large farms. C.Transportation. D.Both A and B.
58.Which part of the cows are scientists using to grow meat?

C.The cells of cows. D.The legs of cows.
59.Scientists from ________ think natural flavors are better for the body.

四、阅读理解(本大题共15小题,每小题2分,共30分)
阅读下面的材料,从每小题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
As we all know, the violin is an expensive instrument.

【知识点】音乐与舞蹈、记叙文、个人经历

47.第三段指出:“he used recycled materials like plastic, wood, and string to make his violins.”,说明他使用回收材料降低成本。
48.第三段中“come by”所在句为:“the materials are easy to come by”,结合前文他使用塑料、木头、线等回收材料制作小提琴,说明这些材料容易“获得”,因此“come by”意为“get”。
49.第一段提到普通小提琴约150美元“usually costs about $150”,第三段Jesus的琴成本仅20美元“cost only about $20 to make”(cheap),第四段指出“the ‘bottlephone’ violins sound just like real violins”(excellent),因此Jesus的琴“便宜但优质”。
50.最后一段Jesus说:“When you have a deep love for music, there should be nothing to prevent you from spreading it.”,说明他热爱音乐并希望与孩子们分享。
