Of all the sports, I like swimming best. It’s an excellent full-body workout and it’s suitable for people of all ages.
In my daily life, I go to the swimming pool near my home once a week. Before entering the water, I do some stretching exercises to relax my body. Every time I step into the water, I feel fresh and relaxed. I can swim in different kinds of strokes (游泳姿势), like freestyle, butterfly stroke and breaststroke. It is my father who teaches me these movements. Swimming is not a team sport, so you can start without others. However, I also often invite my friends to swim together. The more people there are, the more fun it is. We often have swimming races. In friendly races, we swim faster and better.
Swimming brings me many benefits (好处). As a great full-body workout, it helps to build up my body, especially in the back, chest, shoulders, and legs. Besides, it also makes me relaxed and relieves my stress. When we are in the water, all attention is focused on our movements and the water around us. This helps to clear our mind. The Dead Sea is in the Jordan Rift Valley in southwest Asia, about 80 kilometers long and 18 kilometers wide. The Jordan River runs into it. In fact, the Dead Sea is not a sea. It’s a lake with about 30% salt.
The lake is 400 meters below sea level. Every year, it has little rain. And the hot weather around the Dead Sea makes the fresh water evaporate quickly (快速蒸发). So the salt concentration (浓度) becomes high. For these reasons, it is also called the Salt Sea.
Because of the high concentration, it is difficult to find any sea life in the sea. Even the plants can’t grow near it. That’s why it’s called the Dead Sea.
However, don’t be afraid of the name. When you fall into the Dead Sea and can’t swim, you won’t die. You can “float (浮动)” on the water. The water is blue and clear (清澈的). Every year many people visit the Dead Sea on vacation. They like floating in the water and reading books.
Today, the Dead Sea faces many problems. It gets only 50 mm of rain each year. It can only get water from the Jordan River. But now people take too much water from the Jordan River to drink and grow crops. The Dead Sea is becoming smaller year by year...
