It all started the day my teacher told us about a national spelling competition. Wanting to win, I made a clear ____13____: I would learn how to spell every word in the dictionary. To memorize as many words as possible, I made every effort to keep reading day and night, taking breaks only for meals. Soon, the big day finally arrived. During the competition, everything went smoothly. I spelled several difficult words correctly. But when it came to the tenth word, I ____14____ misspelled it. The pain of that loss was so great that I still clearly remember the word “graffiti” even today. However, this failure did not stop me. Instead, it ____15____ me to study even harder because I couldn’t let my time and effort go to waste. Later, my school took part in a French spelling competition organized by a group that gives kids in poor areas a chance at education. French wasn’t my first language, so I ____16____ the spelling of each word more carefully and spent all my free time studying. In the school round, I scored the highest! I felt so proud. The joy ____17____ when I realized my victory was also helping children learn to read and write. In the final, I took fifth place. It was not the result I had dreamed of, but I knew I had done my best. More importantly, my effort had helped others, so the experience still felt ____18____! Besides the award, I developed valuable ____19____ that would help me for the rest of my life — such as sticking with tasks, checking carefully, and never giving up easily. And I found that whether we are creating change for ourselves or for others, we never know what can lead to a brighter future. Sometimes, one word can stop you for a moment, but it can also be the ____20____ of something better — for yourself and for someone else. 13. A. decision B. explanation C. mark D. sound 14. (二)阅读下列短文,根据短文内容,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选择最佳选项。 B The Day Lisa Lost Don’t get me wrong. I’m not talking about the many athletes of today who have developed a me-first way of thinking. I am talking about the true spirit of sports. In high school, students still learn important life lessons through sports. Here, athletes still compete for the love of the game and their team. Lisa Kincaid is one of them. I first met Lisa on the volleyball field. If anyone should feel proud, it is Lisa. Besides being one of the best volleyball players, she also became a legend (传奇人物) in running. She had taken part in sixty-four races and never lost a single one. However, she felt uneasy talking about her success and would usually change the conversation to others’ play. She often lent her shoes to someone who’d forgotten her own, or truly sent best wishes to competitors from different teams. Soon after, Lisa’s surprising “loss” in one race moved me a lot. Lisa’s coach told her he needed her to run the mile. She had never run that race before, but she agreed to do what was best for the team. Another athlete, Jane, was also running. She had received special training for the mile and had a good record. On the last round, all the athletes began to speed up. Then, suddenly Jane fell down. Lisa could have run past to win, but she stopped. “Get up, Jane! You can do it!” she shouted. Just a few seconds later, Jane got up and continued the race. They reached the finishing line almost at the same time. Jane finished first, while Lisa came second. It was Lisa’s first time not winning the first place in her running life. The audience (观众) cheered for her act of sportsmanship. After the race, Lisa said, “I didn’t want to win that way.” Later, Jane hugged Lisa and tried to give the medal to her. However, Lisa refused and said, “Keep it. I just did what I should do. You won the prize with your own effort.” On that day, Lisa missed a win, but she showed me another kind of success. 24. How did Lisa feel when people talked about her success? A. Proud. B. Surprised. C. Unconfident. D. Uncomfortable. 25. Why did Lisa “lose” the running race at last? A. Because she stopped to encourage Jane. B. Because she was not good at running the mile. C. Because she grew too tired to run faster at the end. D. Because she made a mistake during the last round. 26. According to the passage, the writer hopes to ________. A. compare high school athletes with famous ones B. explain how to get the first place in high school C. show that losing a game is a bad thing for everyone D. praise an athlete who values sportsmanship over winning C In 2026, Chinese space companies publicly said that China’s first commercial suborbital manned spacecraft (商业亚轨道载人飞船) would complete its test flight with passengers in 2028. It has quickly become a hot topic across the country. This commercial spacecraft is designed to fly up to 100 kilometers above Earth. The whole flight will last about 20 minutes, and passengers can enjoy 3-6 minutes of weightlessness when the craft reaches the highest point. It can carry 6-7 people. The whole spacecraft is built to be fully reusable so that the cost of space trips can be brought down greatly. However, developing such a reusable spacecraft faces many technical challenges. One of the biggest difficulties of the space capsule (太空舱) is its high-temperature protection set. It is asked to work well when the spacecraft returns to Earth. When the capsule re-enters the atmosphere (大气层), its surface temperature can reach more than 1400℃, so traditional spacecraft used high-temperature protection materials that could only be used once. To deal with this challenge, Chinese engineers have developed ceramic-based composite materials (陶瓷基复合材料). They can stand high temperatures and be reused many times without being changed. This key technology makes the spacecraft able to fly again in a short time and cuts down the cost that was once too high for common business projects. People who support this project believe that it can facilitate the development of China’s commercial space industry, encourage young people to learn science and show China’s progress in space technology. However, some people argue that most common families cannot afford the cost of the flight and there may still be some worries about flight conditions even with good technologies. In short, this commercial spacecraft project has a bright future. With the development of technology, the cost will be lower and the flight will be safer. It will surely bring more chances for China’s space industry. 27. What do you know about new materials for spacecraft? A. They can be reused many times for space trips. B. They make space trips affordable for common families. C. They help greatly reduce the surface heat of the capsule. D. They have taken the place of traditional ones in spacecraft. 28. What does the word “facilitate” in Paragraph 5 most probably mean? A. Slow down. B. Push forward. C. Put off. D. Prepare for. 29. Which of the following is the best title for the passage? A. The Development of the Space Project B. New Materials for a Spacecraft Project C. China’s New Commercial Space Project D. The Cost of a Commercial Space Project D Facial expressions are central to social life, yet scientists still don’t fully understand how the brain produces them. For many years, people thought that faces tell the truth about our feelings. But that view fails to explain why we often change our expressions to fit the moment. To find out what’s going on in the brain during facial expressions, researchers turned to monkeys. They recorded how the brain worked when the animals communicated with one another in the lab. The team’s results, published in Science, came as a surprise. The monkeys’ expressions, from a scary face to a friendly “lip-smacking”, were produced by both the medial cortex (内侧皮层) and lateral cortex (外侧皮层). These two brain areas were long thought to operate alone, but the study showed that both of them took part in the production of all kinds of facial expressions. The two areas did, however, run at different speeds. Activity in the lateral cortex changed quickly to control the fast facial movements that make for easy social connections. By comparison, things happened more slowly in the medial cortex, which may help it notice slow background changes that influence facial expressions. What’s more, both brain activities showed up before facial movements did, suggesting the brain prepares expressions ahead of time. This all raises a question: do monkeys plan the faces they make on purpose? That’s what experts explore in the new study. If facial expressions are partly controlled, they may not just show feelings. As researchers say, they might be tools to influence others. At the very least, they seem to result from complex (复杂的) connections between feelings and awareness. Alan Fridlund, an expert who was not part of this study, believes monkeys control their facial expressions carefully. But he doubts whether lab tests can fully show how monkeys communicate and the brain activity behind it. It is better to do future research in the monkeys’ natural environment. Still, Fridlund says, the new study “shows us more clearly how to learn about the brain science of facial expressions.” In general, it offers a new understanding of how facial expressions are made. 30. What does the study show about the medial cortex and lateral cortex? A. They operate at the same speed. B. They control fast facial movements. C. They both help produce facial expressions. D. They record brain activity during communication. 31. What can we learn from the study of monkeys’ facial expressions? A. Facial expressions depend on feelings. B. The brain prepares expressions beforehand. C. The study shows real monkey communication in nature. D. Scientists fully understand monkeys’ expression production. 32. What is the main idea of Paragraph 4? A. Monkeys connect with others by making faces. B. Monkeys’ real feelings are shown through their faces. C. Monkeys may plan and control their expressions. D. Monkeys’ expressions depend on slow background changes. 33. What is the writer’s main purpose in writing the passage? A. To stress connections between feelings and awareness. B. To explain why monkeys’ expressions differ from humans’. C. To suggest more research in the monkeys’ natural environment. D. To introduce a study on monkeys’ brain control of facial expressions. 第二部分 本部分共5题,共20分。根据题目要求,完成相应任务。 四、阅读表达(第34-36题每题2分,第37题4分,共10分) 阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。 When I was a child, my mother would say, “Go outside and play.” And I would, with all the other kids in the neighborhood. We learned a lot about nature and ourselves by playing outside. A few years ago, I was lucky to be asked to join the advisory committee (咨询委员会) of Children and Nature Network (C&NN). This is a growing organization created by writer Richard Louv. His book, Last Child in the Woods, became a best-seller as people realized we have a generation (一代人) of children so connected to electronics that they are losing their connection to nature. As Louv points out, “We are fast reaching a generation of children where no child will have played outdoors.” Nature is more than plants and animals we see each day. Nature is a shared spirit of being with all things. Through nature, we learn that everything is cyclical (周期的), that life begins and life passes, and that every life is in balance with all other life forms, and each one helps the other serve an important purpose. My neighbors follow the beliefs of nature that Louv suggests in his book. They plant, they play, and they teach their children that nature has her purpose. They live out the idea that we are part of nature, and when we harm her, we harm ourselves. Spending time outdoors both in loneliness and at play is an important education for children. The outdoors encourages an inner connection to nature, and if you stay there for a little while in silence, you will see all the natural connections. You will connect to the chlorophyll (叶绿素) of plants, the flight of insects and birds, and especially the knowing of the earth herself. In Shakespeare’s As You Like It, it mentions that there are songs in trees, stories in running rivers, lessons in stones, and goodness in everything. 34. How did the writer learn about nature and herself when she was a child? ___________________________________________________________ 35. Who created the growing organization C&NN? ___________________________________________________________ 36. A. compare high school athletes with famous ones B. explain how to get the first place in high school C. show that losing a game is a bad thing for everyone D. praise an athlete who values sportsmanship over winning 【答案】24. D 25. A 26. D 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文,主要讲述了运动员Lisa Kincaid在比赛中为帮助摔倒的对手而放弃夺冠机会,展现出高尚体育精神的故事,以此赞美真正的体育精神。 【24题详解】 第三段第一句“However, she felt uneasy talking about her success…”,Lisa谈论自己的成功时感到“uneasy”,这与D选项“Uncomfortable”意思相近。 【25题详解】 第四段中“Then, suddenly Jane fell down. Lisa could have run past to win, but she stopped. ‘Get up, Jane! You can do it!’ she shouted.”,Lisa本可以赢,但她停下来鼓励摔倒的Jane,导致最终只得了第二名。 【26题详解】 通读全文可知,文章第一段提到“true spirit of sports”,最后一段总结“Lisa missed a win, but she showed me another kind of success.”。作者通过Lisa的故事,旨在赞扬那种重视体育精神胜过比赛输赢的运动员。 C In 2026, Chinese space companies publicly said that China’s first commercial suborbital manned spacecraft (商业亚轨道载人飞船) would complete its test flight with passengers in 2028. The Cost of a Commercial Space Project 【答案】27. A 28. B 29. C 【解析】 【导语】本文主要介绍了中国首个商业亚轨道载人飞船项目的计划、技术特点(特别是可重复使用的耐高温材料)、面临的挑战以及社会各界对该项目的不同看法和未来展望。 【27题详解】 第四段明确指出:“They can stand high temperatures and be reused many times without being changed.”,说明这种新材料可以多次重复使用。 【28题详解】 第五段中提到支持者认为该项目可以“facilitate the development of China’s commercial space industry”,结合语境,支持者通常认为项目会促进或推动行业发展,因此“facilitate”意为“促进/推动”,与“Push forward”意思最接近。 【29题详解】 全文围绕中国新的商业太空项目(商业亚轨道载人飞船)展开,涵盖了其设计、技术突破、争议及前景,因此“China’s New Commercial Space Project”是最全面且贴切的标题。 D Facial expressions are central to social life, yet scientists still don’t fully understand how the brain produces them. 【答案】30. C 31. B 32. C 33. What is an important education for children? ___________________________________________________________ 37. Do you often get close to nature? Why or why not?
