W: Small actions can make a significant impact. Reducing personal plastic use is a good start. Try using reusable bags and recycling whenever possible.
M: Absolutely. I’ve even added a metal straw to my everyday carry.

M: I’d love to join the next one. Let’s commit to bringing our own water bottles every day instead of buying bottled water.
W: Agreed! Together, we can inspire others and create a positive change.

Looking for creative and easy outdoor activities to keep children entertained this summer? Here are three engaging craft ideas that encourage creativity, recycling and outdoor play.
Bottle bowling
This eco-friendly project is perfect for reusing household items. Collect empty plastic bottles, wash them thoroughly, and let children decorate them with bright paint. Use a small ball as the bowling ball. Set up the bottles in a triangle shape on a flat outdoor surface. This game not only provides fun but also helps develop hand-eye coordination (协调). Best of all, it requires no extra cost-everything can be found around the home.
Kite-making
Kite-making is a classic outdoor activity that combines art and basic science. You can design kites in various shapes such as diamonds, or even animals. Lightweight materials like paper, plastic bags, or fabric work well. For inspiration and practical tips, online platforms like Pinterest offer countless design ideas and step-by-step guides suitable for beginners.
Water Wall
This interactive water play structure is simple to build and provides hours of sensory fun. Attach different sizes of plastic bottles and containers to a fence or wooden board using strong tape. Cut holes in the bottles to allow water to flow from one to another. Children can pour water at the top and watch it travel down through the containers. Place the water wall in a sunny spot near a garden hose (水管) or water source for easy refill. It’s an excellent way to explore simple water movement and gravity while staying cool outdoors.
21. What is a feature of the bottle bowling activity?
A. It improves eyesight.
B. It uses household materials.
C. It requires store-bought tools.
D. It needs professional guidance.
22. What makes the water wall work well?

根据Bottle bowling部分“This eco-friendly project is perfect for reusing household items. Collect empty plastic bottles, wash them thoroughly, and let children decorate them with bright paint. Use a small ball as the bowling ball. Set up the bottles in a triangle shape on a flat outdoor surface. This game not only provides fun but also helps develop hand-eye coordination(协调). Best of all, it requires no extra cost-everything can be found around the home.(这个环保小创意特别适合改造利用家居废旧物品。先收集空塑料瓶,彻底清洗干净,让孩子们用色彩鲜艳的颜料给瓶子做装饰;再找个小球当作保龄球,将塑料瓶在户外平坦的地面摆成三角形就可以开始游戏了。这款小游戏不仅能带来欢乐,还能锻炼手眼协调能力。最棒的是,它完全不用额外花钱 —— 所有道具都能在家中找到)”可知,瓶式保龄球活动的特点是使用家居材料。故选B项。
【22题详解】
推理判断题。根据Water Wall部分“Place the water wall in a sunny spot near a garden hose (水管) or water source for easy refill.(将水墙放在花园水管或水源附近的向阳处,方便加水)”可知,水墙能顺利运作的关键是持续的水源供应,便于及时补水让水流持续流动。故选D项。
【23题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章内容,瓶式保龄球需“Collect empty plastic bottles, wash them thoroughly, and let children decorate them with bright paint. Use a small ball as the bowling ball. Set up the bottles in a triangle shape on a flat outdoor surface.(收集空塑料瓶,把它们彻底清洗干净,让孩子们用鲜艳的颜料在瓶身进行装饰。找一个小球当作保龄球,将塑料瓶在室外平坦的地面上摆成三角形即可)”;风筝制作需“You can design kites in various shapes such as diamonds, or even animals. Lightweight materials like paper, plastic bags, or fabric work well.(你可以把风筝设计成各式各样的形状,比如菱形,甚至还能做成动物造型。纸、塑料袋、布料这类轻质材料都很适用)”;水墙需“Attach different sizes of plastic bottles and containers to a fence or wooden board using strong tape. Cut holes in the bottles to allow water to flow from one to another. (用强力胶带把不同大小的塑料瓶和塑料容器固定在围栏或木板上,在瓶身上扎出孔洞,让水能从一个容器流到另一个容器中)”可知,这些活动均需要孩子亲自动手操作完成,即活动核心聚焦于动手能力。故选A项。

I studied graphic design at university, and after graduating, landed a job a few towns over. My commute (通勤) involved a train, a bus, and a walk down a country lane in my high-vis jacket. Like many, I had that classic thought: I don’t want to be doing this for the rest of my life. So I decided I’d write a book, convinced it would be my ticket out of the 9-to-5 routine. So, like many first attempts, I was immersed in a novel that was rubbish. And as the cliche (陈词滥调) goes, life happened and writing slipped to the dustbin.
A few years later, searching for my purpose and longing for a better work-life balance, I began training as a tutor. Around the edges of that, I tried writing, including Amy Sparkes’ Picture Book Course during lockdown. However, disaster struck when I realized my draft was essentially a nonsense that had been done before. I felt ready to give up. And then I asked myself: What story can I tell that’s completely unique to me? Something no one else can write? And that’s how my first novel, Officially Losing It, was born. My agent and I were very excited about that.
Later, we received so much encouraging feedback on my voice, but editors struggled to figure out exactly where the book would sit on the shelf. So we didn’t sell. As they say, that book died on sub. But my lovely agent didn’t give up. She reached out to an editor who’d previously loved my writing and voice and said, “Are you absolutely sure you don’t want to publish this? Because Becca is great.”
The editor — the wonderfully amazing Amy Mae Baxter — said, “Afraid not, but I do have an IP project I think Becca would be perfect for. Would she like to audition?” So, I did. I knew in my heart I wanted to write this book. Clearly that passion shone through. Later, I got the job! There was still plenty of space to make the book entirely my own, and Amy and I were so creative that it was a total joy from start to finish.
So is this the end of the story? OF COURSE NOT! Onwards I roll, still full of optimism, brimming with ideas, and one step closer to that desperately dreamed of ideal life!
24. What was the key factor that led to the birth of the author’s first novel?
A. The technical skills from Picture Book Course.
B. The encouragement from editors about her draft.
C. The intervention from agent in finding a publisher.
D. The moment of self-reflection about her unique story.
25. What does the underlined part “died on sub” in paragraph 3 most probably mean?
A. The book caused the author to feel depressed.
B. The book failed to get accepted after being submitted.
C. The book contained a storyline about a character’s death.
D. The book was only published in an underground manner.
26. What is the passage mainly about?
A. The importance of formal education in writing.
B. The journey of career pursuit of a creative dream.
C. The challenges of the traditional publishing industry.
D. The experience of securing a writing job through an audition.
27. Which of the following best describes the author?

【24题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段“And then I asked myself: What story can I tell that’s completely unique to me? Something no one else can write? And that’s how my first novel, Officially Losing It, was born. My agent and I were very excited about that.(然后我问自己:我能讲述一个怎样的故事,这个故事完全是我独有的,是别人无法创作出来的呢?就这样,我的第一部小说《正式失控》应运而生了。我的经纪人和我都对此感到非常兴奋)”可知,促使作者创作出其第一部小说的关键因素是对自己独特经历的自我反思时刻。
【25题详解】
词句猜测题。根据划线词上文“Later, we received so much encouraging feedback on my voice, but editors struggled to figure out exactly where the book would sit on the shelf. So we didn’t sell.(后来,我们收到了很多关于我写作风格的积极反馈,但编辑们却难以确定这本书究竟该放在书架的哪个位置。所以这本书没有卖出)”可知,前文编辑无法定位书籍类目、没能成功售出作品,指代投稿失败。故划线词意思是“这本书在提交后未能获得出版许可”。
【26题详解】

In a world of fast food and quick meals, the Slow Food movement stands out as a unique idea. It was started in Italy in 1986 as a protest (抗议) against a new fast-food restaurant. The movement’s goal is simple yet important: to protect traditional food and local dishes, support sustainable (可持续的) farming, and help people feel more connected to the food they eat. It encourages a different way of thinking about food, one that is not rushed.
The movement champions the values of good, clean, and fair food. “Good” refers to the enjoyment of fresh, flavorsome, and seasonal food that is healthy for the body. “Clean” means food production that does not harm the environment, animal welfare, or human health. “Fair” demands that consumers pay fair prices for their food and that producers, from farmers to chefs, receive fair pay and working conditions.
But Slow Food is more than just about what you eat. It’s a cultural idea that protects food traditions and different types of plants and animals. It promotes biodiversity (生物多样性) by saving old types of plants and animal breeds that industrial farming often ignores. The movement also brings people together by encouraging cooking and eating meals as a community, which helps protect local traditions.
By asking us to think about where our food comes from and how it is made, the Slow Food movement challenges the modern food system. Instead of being passive consumers who just buy food, it invites us to become co-producers. This means we take an active part in our food chain, making choices that are better for us, for the community, and for the planet.
28. A “different way of thinking” encourages people to ________.
A. protect plants from being harmed B. choose dishes from other countries
C. eat at a slower and more regular pace D. consider where and how food is produced
29. According to the passage, what does “fair food” mean?
A. The food is not expensive to buy.
B. The food is fresh, tasty and healthy for the body.
C. Every worker in the process of food production gets fair payment.
D. The process of producing the food will not harm the environment.
30. Which statement is correct about the Slow Food movement?
A. It has forced all fast-food restaurants in Italy to close since its start in 1986.
B. It encourages people to play an active role in the food chain.
C. Its “clean” principle mainly focuses on making sure food is healthy to eat.
D. It protects local food traditions only by saving old kinds of plants and animals.
31. What is the purpose of the passage?
A. To introduce a new type of food culture. B. To help protect biodiversity in Italy.
C. To call on people to eat healthily and fairly. D. To fight against fast food restaurants.
【答案】28. D 29. C 30. B 31. A

Reverse psychology is part of a phenomenon of psychology called “reactance” (逆反). “The idea of reactance is that people are deeply motivated to protect their freedoms,” says Jeff Greenberg, a professor of social psychology at the University of Arizona.
When people feel that their freedom is threatened for example, they think someone is taking away their ability to make their own choices—they react against that threat. Thus, they may feel angry or defensive and try to reverse the threat. Essentially, reverse psychology takes advantage of a person’s reactance. Take, for example, a kid who won’t eat his carrot. When a parent says, “You can’t eat the carrot”, suddenly, eating it becomes more appealing to the kid.
However, this strategy doesn’t always work. Greenberg notes that it works best on people who are more prone (易于) to reactance, such as those who are short-tempered, stubborn, or emotional. On the contrary, more agreeable and obedient people tend to be less prone. “There’s also some limited evidence that men are a little more prone to reactance than women,” he adds.
The effectiveness of reverse psychology also varies with age. Between the ages of two and four, children can be more emotional and more rebellious, so they are more susceptible (易受影响的) to this approach. But by the age of four, kids generally become better behaved and less likely to lose their temper, which means they become less susceptible to this technique. Similarly, during adolescence, when teens often challenge parental authority, reverse psychology can be effective, as teens may tend to do the opposite of what is suggested.
Younger kids, who are less cognitively developed, might not notice when parents use reverse psychology, while adults are more likely to see through it. “Attempts to use reverse psychology on adults can fail,” Greenberg says. “They may resist being controlled, leading to the opposite effect. But there’s no reason to say it won’t work on adults. It just has to be very subtle.”
32. According to Jeff Greenberg, what is the primary reason for reactance?
A. Defending freedom. B. Gaining attention.
C. Avoiding making choices. D. Handling possible threats.
33. What is the author’s purpose in mentioning “carrot” in paragraph 2?
A. To prove that children universally dislike carrots.
B. To argue parents should never tell their children what to do.
C. To demonstrate reverse psychology can influence behaviors.
D. To explain why reverse psychology is a popular parenting strategy.
34. Who is more likely to be influenced by reverse psychology?
A. A good tempered 4-year-old girl.
B. A rule-following 6-year-old child.
C. A calm and agreeable 30-year-old woman.
D. An authority-challenging 15-year-old boy.
35. Which of the following would be the best title for the text?
A. Reverse Psychology: Strategies and Outcomes
B. The Psychology of Reactance: Why We Resist
C. Reverse Psychology: What It Is and Who It Works On
D. The Psychology of Reactance: Ways to Control People’s Behaviour

Energy Drinks: Quick Boost, Long-Term Risks
In recent years, the energy drink market has seen rapid growth in China. Tired of constant exhaustion, many people turn to these drinks for a quick energy boost. ____36____. Some worry about their potential side effects, such as increased anxiety, difficulty falling asleep, and even potential long-term harm to physical health.
Do energy drinks really boost energy?
Energy drinks are categorized as beverages for special purposes. They typically contain a mix of caffeine, vitamins, and other so-called “functional ingredients” such as taurine, ginseng, and guarana. ____37____Consuming energy drinks during late-night study sessions or long work hours might give a temporary lift, but that’s only part of the story.
____38____
Obviously, it is risky to overconsume energy drinks. With their sweet, refreshing taste, many people treat them like regular soft drinks, without realizing the amount of caffeine and sugar they’re taking in. A scientific consensus recommends that healthy adults limit caffeine intake to no more than 400 mg per day, but a single can or bottle of energy drink may contain 50 mg to over 500 mg of caffeine. So it’s easy to exceed safe levels without realizing it, leading to insomnia, nervousness, and even dependence. Moreover, energy drinks can negatively impact the blood vessels. ____39____
Are energy drinks for everyone?
____40____People who are pregnant or breastfeeding, underage, dealing with digestive conditions, taking medications, or consuming alcohol should avoid energy drinks to prevent potential health risks. In short, energy drinks’ short-term benefits cannot make up for their long-term risks.
A. Do energy drinks have side effects?
B. Can energy drinks easily be overconsumed?
C. Despite their popularity, there come rising concerns.
D. Too much intake may cause serious damage to organs.
E. All of these ingredients are believed to help reduce fatigue.
F. Overconsumption may cause sudden problems with blood flow.
G. While energy drinks offer temporary energy, they are not safe for all individuals.

Tired of constant exhaustion, many people turn to these drinks for a quick energy boost.(近年来,中国能量饮料市场呈现出迅猛的发展态势。

The moment 13-year-old Fausto saw his favorite band on TV, his eyes grew large with excitement. He knew exactly what he wanted to do with his life— to play the guitar in his own band.
Fausto decided to earn money to buy a guitar. He turned off the television, hopped onto his sister’s bike and rode north to the nicer section of Fresno in search of work. He went from door to door, but after three hours he managed to get only one job— being asked to hurry down to the store to buy a loaf of bread, for which he received a dirty quarter.
While he was sitting in a park eating an orange, a dog approached him. It was a fancy dog, with a shiny collar and a tag with his name, Roger, and address. This dog looked like he belonged to rich people. An idea flashed across Fausto’s mind. He decided to take Roger home and collect a reward, saying he had found him near the freeway which is 15 miles away. The lie formed easily, but a small, cold knot of unease tightened unexpectedly in his stomach as Fausto walked the dog to its house.
He knocked. A woman in a silky bathrobe opened the door. “Ma’ am,” Fausto said, gripping Roger by the collar. “I found your dog by the freeway. His tag says he lives here, doesn’t he?” “That’s right!” the woman replied in a surprised and joyful voice. She then invited Fausto to come into the house.
Fausto looked around, amazed by the shiny furniture. “You’re probably hungry after your good deed,” the woman said, bringing Fausto a tall glass of milk and a warm apple pie. Fausto ate, aware of the woman’s caring eyes watching him. He felt embarrassed by lying to such a kind lady.
“That was good,” he said after he finished. “Thank you, Ma’ am! Now I have to go home.”
As Fausto walked to the door, the woman opened her purse and took out two bills. “For your honesty and help,” she said warmly, pressing two hundred dollars into his hand. “You’re a good boy.” Fausto couldn’t meet her gaze, his face burning with a sudden feeling of shame that went deeper than mere embarrassment.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
With the money gripped tightly in his hand, Fausto headed to the music shop. The very guitar he had dreamed of was shining there. Hardly could he tear his gaze away from the instrument, imagining his fingers dancing on its strings. Yet, a sense of guilt pierced his heart. “It is not the right way to fulfill a dream”, a voice whispered inside him. The crisp bills in his hand, now felt like a weight too heavy to bear. Lost in the painful conflict between temptation and conscience, he stood motionless, feeling ashamed.
Turning his back on the shining guitar, Fausto walked with determination towards the woman’s house. He knocked on the door firmly. When the woman appeared with a surprised look, Fausto confessed everything. “Actually,” he said, his voice steady, “it was my honesty that was almost lost, not just your dog.” Moved by his courage and integrity, the lady, whose eyes softened with an understanding smile, not only insisted he keep the reward but also offered him an old guitar from her attic. It was this act of honesty, not the money, that truly fulfilled his dream.

A. Enough sunlight.
B. Plastic bottles of a size.
C. Stable electrical power.
D. Continuous water supply.
23. What do these activities focus on?
A. Hands-on skills.
B. Team spirit.
C. Academic performance.
D. Scientific principles.

A. Ambitious and cautious. B. Optimistic and determined.
C. Confident and considerate. D. Humorous and independent.

D

There are a few changes that have been made to the visit, so please pay full attention to what i'm saying next. We still have been arranged to pay a visit to the local museum this weekend, but this time it's on saturday, not on sunday. We are informed that the museum won't open this sunday due to some special reasons, and we are going to me on the playground instead of the school gate at eight o'clock tomorrow morning, we will go directly there by a bus. He'd Better wear comfortable shoes for long walks in the museum. Please bring a new book with you and make some notes. We will have a discussion about IT in the class meeting next monday. Oh, I nearly forget to remind you of the rules. Don't take pictures of the cultural relic, but if you do want to take a picture, you can do that in front of the museum, and nobody is allowed to touch anything there, or else they will be fined.
