Sitting in my car, I was watching dolphins swim in the ocean. It was such an enjoyment. Suddenly I saw more and more dolphins become beached after the tide (潮水) went out. That was too dangerous. Those dolphins needed help fast.
Without thinking too much, I jumped off my car and ran toward them. I first called the police and wildlife protection organization, but their hands were far away. On the beach hardly anyone could be seen. For those dolphins, it was a life-or-death moment. Not knowing what to do, I turned to the Internet for help, hoping people nearby could see my post and come to save those lovely animals.
Minutes later, three teenage boys from a nearby school were the first to arrive. It was like light pierced (穿透) the darkness. Then more and more people arrived after that. Under the direction of the fisherman about 40 volunteers were able to get to work on digging, pulling and bringing smaller dolphins to deeper waters.
However, to everyone’s surprise, no dolphin left by itself after it got free. When the tide began to rise, the dolphins chirped (唧唧叫) to encourage each other. The dolphins stayed where they were in the water until the save was complete. Once all 16 dolphins were set free, they soon returned to their ocean home together.
It warmed my heart that the dolphins showed a sense of belonging (归属)—helping each other the face of difficulty. Looking around, I understood that our volunteer group is very similar to the dolphins. On a cold November day, nobody was afraid to get wet or dirty. We tried our best to save the dolphins and communicated back and forth (来回地) to keep the save in order and to ensure the safety of everybody.
I will never forget this experience.

When we watch sports games, we often notice sportsmen wearing earphones before the game. They keep their eyes shut, and nod along with the music. It seems the music is giving them power and cheering them up for the game. But is there any science behind such practices?
According to new research, it turns out there is. Music makes us feel powerful, but not all songs have the same effect (效果) .
The research was led by an American researcher named Dennis. His team had people listen to 31 songs of different types. The listeners felt powerful after listening to some songs, for example, Queen’s We Will Rock You. Researchers also found that high-power music made people want to take control in social events and come first in competitions.
Great sportsmen know this idea well. NBA player Kobe Bryant, for example, often puts on big headphones and even falls into deep thought to improve his game and have fewer worries.
Why does music have magical power? Dennis’s team explained: when people hear music that expresses a sense of power, they mimic (模拟) these feelings in their mind.
When we select music, we also need to look at the type of music, according to researchers. In the research by the Music in Exercise and Sport Group at Brunel University in London, they found that pop was perfect for slower tasks. If you’re warming up or cooling down after exercises, pop songs are the correct choice. Dance music was found to be best suitable for strength and weight training.
36. What does the writer mainly want to do in the first paragraph?
A. Tell people music can help them win. B. Explain why music is important before games.
C. Describe sportsmen’s habits before the game starts. D. Get readers to think if music is important in sports.
37. Which of the following might Dennis agree with?
A. Powerful music makes the game interesting. B. People feel powerful after listening to some songs.
C. The result of a game is mainly influenced by music. D. Sportsmen can win the game after listening to music.
38. What does the underlined word “select” probably mean?
A. Choose. B. Create. C. Control. D. Explain.
39. How does the writer make his point clear?
A. By using English sayings. B. By giving examples.
C. By giving common rules. D. By comparing the research.
40. What is the best title for the text?
A. Influence of Music in Sports B. Different Kinds of Music
C. Coming First in Competitions D. Some Meaningful Research

第二节 阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,简略回答问题。
When you hear the word “shapeshifting (变身)”, you may think of magic in some movies. But that’s what animals are doing to go on living in the world.
When we talk about climate change, we often ask, “What can humans do with this?” “How can we live in the future?” “But we should know that animals also have to face these changes,” said Sara, from Deakin University, Australia. “If animals do nothing to keep their normal body temperature, they will die.”
A new study shows that some animals are slowly growing larger beaks (喙), legs and ears. In this way they can keep their normal body temperature as the earth gets warmer. In one example, the beaks of some kinds of Australian parrots have grown 4 to 10 percent larger. The study says it is because of the hotter summers over the years. There are other similar examples. Wood mice have longer tails and bats (蝙蝠) in warm climates have bigger wings.
In order to reduce these changes, we must protect the environment. Although the changes are still small, they could be common as the weather becomes hotter. “Body parts like ears may become bigger, so we might be able to see a real Dumbo (big-eared elephant from a Disney cartoon) in the near future,” Sara told the reporters.

A. Powerful music makes the game interesting. B. People feel powerful after listening to some songs.
C. The result of a game is mainly influenced by music. D. Sportsmen can win the game after listening to music.

A. Choose. B. Create. C. Control. D. Explain.
