Then, many years later, all the other trees became ill and died one by one. 3 thought that this tree would be next. 4 , the tree didn’t die. Year after year, it grew very well. Nobody could understand why it was the sole(仅存的) one still standing in the area.
Some experts came to study the tree later, checking the groove 5 by the iron chain. They believed that it was actually the 6 that saved the tree’s life. They reasoned that the tree must have got so much 7 from the chain that it became immune (免疫的) to the illness.

Last Saturday, I took part in a volunteer activity at the old people’s home with my classmates. We met at the school gate at 8 o’clock in the morning and went there by bus.
When we arrived, the old people were 1 us. First, we cleaned their rooms and washed their clothes. Some boys helped fix the broken chairs and tables. I talked with an old grandma 2 used to be a teacher. She told me many interesting stories about her teaching days.

The one who has never gained anything will never feel the pain of losing. That is pretty clear. But I 1 that losing something you once had is less painful than never experiencing the joy of having it at all.
When I was six years old, a lovely doll caught my eye. My mom refused to buy it for me, so I decided to take a “job” to sell sweets in a park. When I held the doll earned by myself, I was the happiest girl in the world. However, the doll ended up being lost during a family trip. I was so sad but I knew my 2 couldn’t bring it back.
In Grade 9, my close friend became estranged (疏远) from me. We once shared our secrets with each other and 3 one another through difficult times. At the time she kept me at a distance, I was very disappointed and even wished I had never known her. I didn’t know what to do without her at one time 4 I got used to her support and company (陪伴) .
Looking back on the past, I find that I’m not that sad about those lost treasures now. 5 , I am thankful for them for making my life colorful. I couldn’t imagine 7 I would have missed without buying that doll and having a good time with that girl.
Experiences are of great importance to our lives. The world changes so quickly that nothing is able to last forever. 8 actually belongs to us except our own feelings. How much regret do you think exists in our mind when we give up our reasonable wants just because of our fears of possible loss? For me, nothing could be 9 than a boring life. In the life, you hope for something but have no courage to make it!
While the treasure 10 is gone, the memories are still alive. Let these wonderful past moments shine like stars in the night sky. Don’t cry because it’s over; smile because it once happened.
