Bernt Bornich grew up in a quiet town in Norway. As a boy, he was deeply interested in robots and science fiction. He spent most of his free time reading related books and drawing pictures of his ideal robot. At the age of 11, he already designed his first “snow-making machine” in his mind. He also imagined a warm, helpful robot that could stand by people’s side and make daily life easier. He never thought his childhood dream would one day become his life’s work.
Today, Bernt’s dream has come true. He founded a company called 1X in 2014. Then he led his hard-working team to develop a humanoid robot (类人机器人) named NEO in 2024. Standing 1.68 meters tall and weighing 30 kg, NEO is quite different from ordinary robots — it wears clothes and shoes, looking friendly rather than a cold metal machine.
NEO is specially designed to help with daily housework, which saves people a lot of valuable time to stay with their family and friends. Equipped with Artificial Intelligence (AI), it can listen to people’s instructions and clearly understand them. NEO can also learn from its small mistakes and remember where things are placed. However, NEO is still in the process of development and can’t do all tasks perfectly yet.
The company planned to start selling NEO in the US in 2026. People can buy it for about $ 20,000 or rent it for $ 499 a month to have a useful partner at home. And then gradually, it will be introduced to other countries. For Bernt, NEO is more than just a machine — it’s about his childhood dream coming true and bringing people more time to enjoy their beautiful life.
19. How is NEO different from other robots?
A. It is expensive. B. It looks like a cold machine.
C. It is very strong. D. It wears clothes and shoes.
20. What does the third paragraph mainly talk about?
A. How much NEO costs. B. What NEO is able to do.
C. Where we can buy NEO. D. Why NEO is so popular.
21. What is the correct order of Bernt’s experience?
①He founded a company called 1X.
②He planned to start selling NEO in the USA.
③He imagined his first “snow-making machine”.
④He and his group developed NEO.
A. ①②③④ B. ③④②① C. ③①④② D. ①③④②
22. What’s the best title of this passage?
A. From a Dreamer to a Creator
B. The First Snow-making Machine
C. The Birthplace of Humanoid Robots
D. The History of Artificial Intelligence

By studying the oldest dog genes (基因) so far, scientists discovered that dogs have lived with us for much longer than we thought.
People believe that gray wolves from Europe or Asia are the ancestors of dogs today. A very long time ago, those wolves got used to living with people. But exactly when and where this happened remains a mystery. Scientists are now studying DNA found in ancient dog and wolf remains (遗骸) to find out where the earliest dogs came from.
According to two recent studies published in Nature, researchers developed a new way to study ancient dog DNA. Normally, such DNA is hard to get. The new method allowed scientists to focus on the parts that only dogs have. They examined ancient genes from more than 200 dogs and wolves and found that the oldest was from about 15,800 years ago, moving the origin (起源) of dogs back at least 5,000 years.
The genes also showed that dogs were already living all over Western Europe and Asia 14,200 years ago. That was before humans started farming. The beginning of farming brought new people to Europe from southwest Asia. They mixed with Europeans, influencing their genes. But the dog genes studied by the scientists stayed almost the same. They were less influenced by the arrival of new humans.
Although it’s clear from the two studies that dogs appeared earlier than we used to think, we are still not sure how these ancient dogs lived with their humans. It is possible that they guarded the house or helped with hunting, and they probably also played with young children. While more research is needed to find out exactly when dogs first appeared, one thing is clear: they’ve been our best friend for thousands of years, and probably always will be!
23. What do scientists want to find out by studying DNA according to Paragraph 2?
A. Whom wolves lived with. B. Where dogs came from.
C. Why wolves appeared. D. When dogs moved to Asia.
24. Why was the new research method special?
A. It helped scientists find more ancient remains.
B. It helped scientists reduce the cost of research.
C. It allowed scientists to test genes more quickly.
D. It allowed scientists to focus only on dog DNA.
25. What does the underlined word “they” in Paragraph 4 refer to?
A. The new people. B. The ancient wolves.
C. The dog genes. D. The Europeans.
26. What can we learn from the results of the two studies?
A. Dogs lived with humans earlier than we thought.
B. Dogs first appeared after humans started farming.
C. Dog genes have changed greatly through time.
D. Dogs helped the young children learn to hunt.
D
What comes to mind when you think about scientists? Do you picture someone in a white lab coat? Or someone staring at a computer screen? These ideas all share one thing: scientists work alone and indoors. But scientific work has a much bigger social side than many people think.
One important part of a scientist’s life is collaboration. Scientists often meet during meetings, but fieldwork (实地考察) can be an even better chance to work closely with others, especially research cruises (科考船). Living on a ship for weeks turns science into a fun, social experience. There is less time for phones, computers, and TV, so they may play games, tell jokes, or enjoy the sea together.
Of course, scientists go to sea mainly for science. Research cruises are expensive and take months of preparation, so everyone works hard to collect enough information for their studies. However, on a cruise, plans can change quickly, and everyone must be ready to work as a new “big team”. They help each other with tasks, tools, and even safety because the ocean can be dangerous.
The days will seem longer because you do not have to deal with traffic-jams or chores, and the cooks prepare your meals. After work, scientists spend the evening playing instruments, singing, or looking at the sunset. This social time helps everyone work better together.
After several weeks at sea, everyone is tired but proud. Many people say, “Back to real life” because the cruise feels like a dream. Luckily, the story doesn’t end when the ship docks (靠岸). You will see your shipmates again at meetings, and you might even write papers together in the future. From research cruises, you bring back not just science, but new friendships too.
27. How does the writer lead in the topic?
A. By using sayings. B. By showing numbers.
C. By giving reasons. D. By asking questions.
28. What does the underlined word “collaboration” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Studying in a lab. B. Studying alone.
C. Working together. D. Working on computers.
29. Which is true about the scientists’ life on a research cruise?
A. They have to prepare meals.
B. They work in safe conditions.
C. They usually work very hard.
D. They depend more on phones.
30. What is the main purpose of the text?
A. To describe the difficulties scientists meet.
B. To explain the reasons scientists work alone.
C. To show the ways scientists relax after work.
D. To discuss the social side of scientific work.

Understanding Friendship
This week, we spoke to an expert who answers kids’ questions about being a friend and all the feelings that come with it.
My name is Tina Smith and I’m a Child Psychologist (心理学家), which means I can help you understand your feelings better. If you’ve ever thought your feelings are “too big” or “too strange”, I’m here to tell you: You are not alone. ____31____ Learning how to use them wisely is what makes you emotionally strong.
◆ What do I say if I want to play with someone, but I’m scared they’ll say no?
Many kids (even adults!) feel scared of being told no. First, remind yourself: “Even if they say no, I am still important.” Then, use a brave starter sentence like: “Can I join in for a while?” or “That looks fun, can I try too?” If they say no, it’s okay to feel sad but it doesn’t mean you’re not worth being friends with. Try another group or even start a game yourself. ____32____
◆ ____33____.
Shyness means you like to look at everything around you. It helps you notice how other people feel. But sometimes, it can feel like it stops you from making new friends. So if you want to practice being less shy, start with small actions like saying hi to someone in another class or joining a new activity to meet new people. Each small step helps to increase your confidence over time.
◆ ____34____
Being a good friend requires kindness, empathy (同理心) and fairness. Ask yourself: Do I listen when my friend talks? Do I share and take turns? Do I try to help when my friend feels sad? If you can answer “yes” to some of these, then you’re practicing good friendship skills. But remember, being a good friend doesn’t mean you never make mistakes. What matters most is how much you care.
A. What makes me feel shy around people?
B. How do I know if I’m being a good friend?
C. Why is it so difficult to deal with problems?
D. Feelings are just a normal part of being human.
E. People may join in when you begin something fun.
31. ________
32. ________
33. ________

D 20. B 21. C 22. A
原文第二段提到“Standing 1.68 meters tall and weighing 30 kg, NEO is quite different from ordinary robots — it wears clothes and shoes, looking friendly rather than a cold metal machine.”,由此可知NEO和其他机器人的不同之处在于它穿着衣服和鞋子,看起来很友好。
原文第一段提到“At the age of 11, he already designed his first ‘snow-making machine’ in his mind.”,对应③;原文第二段提到“He founded a company called 1X in 2014.”,对应①;原文第二段提到 “Then he led his hard-working team to develop a humanoid robot named NEO in 2024.”,对应④;原文第四段提到“The company planned to start selling NEO in the US in 2026.”,对应②。
C
B 24. D 25. C 26. A
第二段末尾指出科学家研究DNA的目的:“Scientists are now studying DNA…to find out where the earliest dogs came from.”,这直接说明了科学家希望通过研究DNA找出最早的狗起源于哪里。
第三段指出新研究方法的特别之处:“The new method allowed scientists to focus on the parts that only dogs have.”,这说明该方法能让科学家专注于研究狗特有的DNA部分。
第四段分析了句子的指代关系,空前一句提到:“But the dog genes studied by the scientists stayed almost the same.”,紧接着用“They”作主语来说明其受新人类到来的影响较小,因此这里的“They”指代的是前句的主语,即被研究的狗的基因。
第五段首句指出了两项研究结果带来的启示:“Although it’s clear from the two studies that dogs appeared earlier than we used to think…”,这直接证明了狗与人类共同生活的时间比我们原本想象的要更早。
D 28. C 29. C 30. D
根据文章第一段开头“What comes to mind when you think about scientists? Do you picture someone in a white lab coat? Or someone staring at a computer screen?”
根据第二段划线词后的“Scientists often meet during meetings, but fieldwork (实地考察) can be an even better chance to work closely with others, especially research cruises (科考船).”
根据第三段“everyone works hard to collect enough information for their studies”可知,科学家们工作非常努力。
文章第一段提出观点“scientific work has a much bigger social side than many people think”(,随后全文通过描述科考船上的团队合作、社交生活等细节来支撑这一观点,旨在讨论科学工作的社交方面。

31. ________
32. ________
33. ________
34. ________
35. Do you find it hard to join others? What can you do to become a good friend?
____________________________________________________________________________________________
33. A 34. B
35. Yes. I can be a good friend by being kind, listening, and sharing.
根据文章第2段“If you’ve ever thought your feelings…You are not alone.”
根据文章第3段“Try another group or even start a game yourself.”
根据文章第4段“Shyness means you like to look at everything around you.”

根据文章第5段“Being a good friend requires kindness, empathy (同理心) and fairness.”
I can be a good friend by being kind, listening, and sharing.”,本题为开放性问题,第一问回答是否觉得加入别人很难,是个人感受,可以用“Sometimes”(有时会)或“Yes/No”来回答;第二问回答如何成为一个好朋友,言之有理且字数不超过15词即可。
