Love is a lot like Algebra. It can be a mystery that we never fully understand. The truth is the more love we give, the more love we have. The more we 25 it, the more it grows inside of us. Welcome the mystery then and enjoy all the riches of love.

①Plastic waste is one of the biggest problems our planet faces. Plastic doesn’t go away easily. It stays in the environment for hundreds of years, causing harm to animals, oceans, and nature. Every year, millions of animals suffer because of plastic. Some get sick after eating it, while others get trapped in it. And those huge “plastic islands” in the oceans just keep getting bigger.
②But guess what? Scientists have found something amazing. They’ve found that certain plants and fungi (真菌) can really “eat” plastic! In one experiment, scientists placed a plastic bottle and some fungi inside a box. After a few weeks, the fungi produced special chemicals. These chemicals slowly turned the plastic into tiny pieces. By the end of the experiment, most of the bottle was gone, leaving behind only safe things like water and air. This shows how powerful fungi can be in fighting plastic waste.
③Scientists also found other fungi and small living things in forests and mountains that can break down plastic. These little helpers live well even in bad conditions. Since there are so many of them, they’re great at breaking down hard plastics.
④This finding could change how we ▲ plastic. Old ways like recycling are expensive and don’t always work perfectly. Using plants and fungi to get rid of plastic would cost less and be much friendlier to the environment than factories.
⑤However, there are still problems. First, we need to grow enough of these plastic-eating fungi. And we must make sure they don’t cause any new problems for nature. Also, scientists need to do more research to help these fungi work well in the real world, not just in labs.
⑥Even with these problems, there’s a lot of hope. We could create special farms in the oceans and polluted areas to grow these helpful fungi and plants. With more of them around, they can break down plastic waste faster and more effectively.
⑦If we can make the most of these special fungi, we might finally solve the plastic pollution problem and make our Earth a cleaner place. Scientists are working hard to find out the best ways to use fungi against plastic pollution in the future.
29.What did the scientists find according to their experiment in Paragraph 2?
A.Plastic pollution is quite hard to solve. B.Fungi can really break plastic waste.
C.People can use fungi instead of plastic. D.Plastic will produce new chemicals.
30.Which phrase is the most suitable to be filled in the ▲ ?
A.hand out B.tidy up C.deal with D.care about
31.According to the last paragraph, what might the writer talk about next?
A.The future use of plastic-eating fungi. B.New ways to make our Earth cleaner.
C.Other ways of solving plastic pollution. D.Some new experiments from scientists.
32.Which of the following shows the structure of the passage?(①=Para.1, ②=Para. 2...)
A. B. C. D.

It was eleven o’clock at night. A large woman was walking towards home. She had a large purse with everything but money. It hung right behind her shoulder. A boy ran up and tried to snatch her purse. The large woman simply turned around, caught the boy by his shirt, and shook him until his teeth rattled.
After that, the woman asked, “Boy, don’t you feel ashamed of yourself?”
“I’m sorry,” whispered the boy.
“What did you want to do it for? Your face is dirty. Nobody at home told you to wash your face?”
The boy shook his head.
“Then,” the woman shouted, “it will get washed this evening. You are going to remember Mrs. Jones!” She dragged the frightened boy behind her and got to her door.
“Are you taking me to the police?” The boy asked.
‘‘Not with that face! Have you been home to eat yet?”
“There’s nobody at my house.”
“Then we’ll eat,” said Mrs. Jones. “I believe you’re hungry, so you tried to steal.”
“I wanted a pair of leather shoes,” said the boy.
“Well, you didn’t have to snatch my purse to get things you want. Besides, there’s little money in it.”
There was a long silence. After he washed his face and turned around, wondering what to do next, he saw the door open. He could run, run, run and run!
In the corner of the room, Mrs. Jones was heating some beans. She didn’t watch the boy to see if he was going to run, nor did she watch her purse which she left behind on the bed. But the boy took care to sit on the far side of the room, away from the purse, where he thought she could easily see him.
“Do you need somebody to get milk or something?” The boy asked.
“I don’t unless you want,” said Mrs. Jones.
As they ate, she didn’t ask about where he lived, or his family, or anything that would embarrass him. Instead, she said, “eat some more, boy!”
When they finished eating, she got up. ‘‘Now here, take this ten dollars and buy your shoes. Next time, don’t snatch my purse, nor anyone else’s — shoes got in bad ways will burn your feet!”

Have you ever seen something so amazing that it took your breath away? In 2019, during China’s National Day parade, 352 soldiers marched in perfect step. They created the world’s largest “human screen”! Then in 2022, at the Winter Olympics 576 light sticks formed a shining ice ring. These cool scenes (场景) are called “Pái Miàn” in Chinese, and they tell a story that is over 3,000 years old!
The idea of “Pái Miàn” started in ancient China. Back then, wars were common, and good military formations (军事阵型) were super important Sun Tzu; a famous thinker, wrote in The Art of War that well-organized formations could lead to success. If you visit Xi’ an, you can see the terracotta warriors (兵马俑). They stand in straight rows, showing us how the Qin Dynasty soldiers lined up long ago. This love for order didn’t just stay in the army. Think about dragon dances. A dragon dance needs 108 people to work together. They move the dragon so smoothly—it’s like they’re one big team!
Today, “Pái Mian” is still alive and better than ever. Every morning at 5, rain or shine,36 soldiers from the Guard of Honor of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army march to Tian’ anmen Square. Each of their steps is exactly 75 centimeters long. Their boots hit the ground at the same time, making a loud “click” sound. The most exciting part is when they raise the flag. Their movements match the 46-second national anthem (国歌) perfectly! Thousands of people gather to watch this ceremony.
Professor Chen from Peking University says “Pái Miàn” shows how we think. “When everyone does their best, the whole group succeeds, just like 55 BeiDou satellites working together to help us find our way,” he explains. Young people are joining in too! In Shanghai, 5,000 students held colored cards to make a huge QR code (二维码). Li Hua, a 14-year-old student, said, “My small card was just 20 square centimeters. But without it, the big picture wouldn’t look right.”
From ancient battlefields to modern cities, “Pái Miàn” makes us think of the power of teamwork. It’s a tradition that makes China’s history and present truly special.
37.Where did the idea of “Pái Miàn” first come from?
A.Ancient military formations. B.The raising of the national flag.
C.Folk traditions like dragon dances. D.Modern group performances.
38.Which of the following scenes GANNOT be called “Pái Miàn”?
A.The terracotta warriors stand in straight rows.
B.Thousands of people gather to watch the flag raising ceremony.
C.576 light sticks formed a shining ice ring at the Winter Olympics.
D.352 soldiers marched in perfect step during China’s National Day parade.
39.What can we learn from the example of 5,000 Shanghai students making a QR code?
A.It’s easy to make a big QR code.
B.The huge QR code is interesting.
C.Students like to play with colored cards.
D.Small parts are important for the whole thing.
40.What’s the best title of the passage?
A.The History of Pái Miàn B.Pái Miàn—the Power of Teamwork
C.The Largest “Human Screen” D.Some Different Chinese Traditions
