With the holiday season coming, many children are dreaming of the latest toys. This year, artificial intelligence (AI) toys that can talk and learn are becoming popular gifts. However, a new report asks an important question: Are these smart toys safe for kids?
Teresa Murray, who is one of the report writers, says some of these AI toys may talk about a lot of topics that some parents might find worrying. It could be how to find dangerous objects in the home, such as matches and knives, and how to light those matches. It could be about what happened to people who died. And it could be topics that some parents may not be comfortable with their kids hearing about.
The problems don’t stop there. The report also shows that these toys are listening and collecting information. They can record a child’s voice, ask for their names and their dates of birth, and even talk about the kid’s likes, dislikes, favorite toys, and favorite friends. “The one toy that we looked at has facial recognition software (识别软件), and because it’s connected to the Internet, anything is available (可获得的). Who knows what those toys might start talking to your children about?” says Teresa Murray, “It’s really terrible.”
Murray points out that this is different from smartphones. On phones, parents can use parental controls to block (屏蔽) what they consider harmful. However, when you hand an AI toy to a child, you can’t control what it gets from the Internet. Because the toys are online, kids could see almost anything on the web.
If a child wants an AI toy for a gift, what should a parent do? Murray suggests that families make the decision themselves, but be careful. If you buy one, you should first test the toy for at least an hour. Try asking the questions a child might ask, because safety systems can sometimes fail after a few minutes. Parents must know that these toys are able to collect almost all private information before deciding if the risk is worth the hugs.
61.According to the report, parents may worry about whether AI toys are ________.
A.safe for kids to use B.popular with kids
C.expensive for families D.fun for kids to play with
62.How does the writer show the possible risks of AI toys in paragraph 2?
A.By telling a story. B.By giving examples.
C.By asking questions. D.By comparing numbers.
63.What can some AI toys record?
A.Pets’ toys. B.Teachers’ names. C.Parents’ birthdays. D.Children’s voices.
64.What should parents do if they want to buy AI toys from the last paragraph?
A.Buy the latest model to keep the children safe.
B.Avoid buying any toy that connects to the Internet.
C.Test the toy themselves first and understand the risks.
D.Let the child decide freely since the toys are educational.
65.Which word can best express the writer’s feeling towards AI toys?
A.Encouraged. B.Uninterested. C.Worried. D.Surprised.

Do you believe a rose plant says “I want some water.” or a tree shouts “My arms hurt.”? Maybe you will say this could only happen in some 66 stories.
In fact, plants are not always 67 . A recent study has found plants shout when they are in need of water or having their stems (梗) cut. “Even in a quiet field, there are actually some sounds that carry information. However, the pitch (音高) is too high for people to 68 ,” said Lilach Hadany, a professor from Tel Aviv University.
The researchers used microphones to record some tomato plants and found that stressed plants send out 69 sounds than unstressed plants. “When tomatoes are not stressed at all, they are very quiet,” Professor Hadany said. They also trained a machine in 70 the differences between thirsty plants and cut plants. The result shows that when the causes of stress change, they shout 71 . After the team recorded many kinds of other plants, they found that many plants like corn, wheat and grape plants send out sounds when they are under stress, 72
“There is a possibility that a lot of communication is happening,” Professor Hadany said. “Because other plants can probably hear the call of the stressed plants.”
Sound recordings of plants could bring humans lots of 73 , especially in farming. For example, people will 74 whether corn is getting enough water or where water is needed most without much 75 .
六、任务型阅读
阅读下面短文,按照题目要求用英语回答问题,并将答案写在答题卡的相应位置。
In today’s world, we use the internet for many things, but it’s not the only place where our private information is used. When we’re busy with daily tasks, sharing personal things like our names, addresses, or phone numbers can be as simple as making a shopping list. Whether we’re online or using other ways to communicate, we must take steps to protect our information.
When we’re online, always be careful. Only visit safe websites—look for “https” in the address bar. Never share passwords (密码), bank numbers, or other important information with anyone we don’t trust. Choose strong passwords for our accounts by using a mix of letters, numbers and symbols. Of course, don’t forget to change them often.
When we’re offline, be wise about sharing information. When we write down our personal information, keep it in a safe place, such as a locked drawer. When we throw away papers with our names and addresses, break them into small pieces first so that others can’t read them. When we finish using public computers, make sure to sign out of our accounts.
For our devices (设备), we should always keep them safe. Get updates (更新) when they come out. These updates often fix problems that can make our devices unsafe. They protect against bad programs that might steal our information.
Remember, our personal information is valuable. Small actions can make a big difference in keeping it safe. By being careful and following these habits, we can protect ourselves from risks and enjoy a safer life.
76.What can feel as simple as a shopping list when we’re busy?
77.How can we make a strong password?
78.When do we need to sign out of our accounts on public computers?
79.What can we do to keep our devices safe?

As teenagers, we need plenty of useful skills to face the future. In my opinion, communicating and taking notes are two essential skills.
Good communication helps us make more friends and get along well with people around us. I practice it by talking actively with my family and classmates every day. Besides, taking notes is a key learning skill. It helps us grasp knowledge quickly. I keep writing down important points in class and review them regularly.
These skills are really helpful. I will keep improving them to prepare well for my future life.
